I had the curry chicken. The sauce was excellent, but the meat was tough and dry. I'm undecided on whether I'll be back.

I visited Silver Diner in Glenarden for lunch this past Sunday with a friend. While I would return,…read morethe experience highlighted some service fundamentals that I hope management will consider addressing through additional training. We waited approximately 20 minutes to be seated, which was understandable during a busy lunch period. However, once seated, we waited another 15 minutes or so without being greeted or offered water. Having worked in food service myself, I believe one of the simplest ways to acknowledge guests is to touch the table quickly, even if the server is busy. A greeting and water communicate, "We see you, and we'll be with you shortly." This is especially important during the summer when guests may have already been waiting outside or in a crowded lobby. When we eventually asked for water, the response was essentially, "Oh, you wanted water?" That surprised me. Water should not feel like a special request at a full-service restaurant. Because of the delay, we placed most of our order at once. Unfortunately, nearly everything then arrived at once too: water, appetizers, cocktails, non-alcoholic beverages, and other items. I had intentionally ordered two different drinks expecting to enjoy them at different points during the meal, but instead found myself with three beverages and food all competing for attention at the same time. Nothing about the server was rude. In fact, she was very sweet and pleasant, which is important to acknowledge. My concern is more about training, pacing, and attentiveness. A restaurant meal should feel like an experience, not simply an order being delivered to the table all at once. I was also surprised to see the suggested gratuity begin at 20%. I have no issue tipping well for good service, but when a restaurant prominently suggests that level of gratuity, I believe the service standards should consistently reflect it. Guests should feel cared for rather than feeling that a tip is expected regardless of the experience provided. Ultimately, I packed much of my meal and left sooner than anticipated. The food and overall concept are enough that I would absolutely give this location another opportunity, but the hospitality needs refinement. This review isn't intended to criticize one individual server. I hope management sees it as constructive feedback and an opportunity to reinforce some of the fundamentals: acknowledge the table, offer water promptly, communicate when there is a delay, and properly pace food and beverages. Sometimes the smallest hospitality touches make the biggest difference. I'd love to see this location get those details right.

I ordered a Bahn Mi Rice Bowl and it was delicious with the right amount of spice and seasoning. I was a little worried about the level of chili in the tofu but was assured Franklins typically keeps it fairly mild...and it was. The fresh mint was lovely mixed with the jasmine rice, carrot ribbons and finely chopped mushrooms. The chili peach jam was a perfect sauce. The restaurant has a lot of character with artwork on the walls and lots of booth seating as well as tables and chairs. There is also outdoor seating at picnic tables at "The Hut" and the Quarantiki Room open seasonally. Make sure to check out the store next door, which offers a wide variety of gift items as well as their craft brews.

Although I no longer…read morelive in the area, I was looking forward to stopping by during my trip and it felt nostalgic. Going on a Friday night I just knew it would be packed, but surprisingly it was easy to get a spot at a table near the bar. The wait for a table in the main restaurant was running about 40 mins, but would have risked not being seated before the kitchen closed. Despite the bar being busy, we were greeted and served pretty quickly. The DC tap water is my go to drink and you definitely get your moneys worth. My husband ordered the hurricane and was very satisfied with the amount of liquor he could actually taste. For meals I had to get the tiger wings. I love that sauce so much and wish they sold the sauce by itself. Also got a side of the greens which were tasty and not overcooked, I just feel like the flavor is something I would get tired of after a while. My husband ordered the jambalaya and it was also good. When we lived in the area we used to frequent the restaurant for happy hour. They have remained consistent and I'll definitely be back next time I'm in the DMV.

The buffet didn't disappoint with everything from the omelette station, carving station (roast beef and turkey), pasta, jambalaya, fried chicken and all the breakfast favorites. The restaurant is very spacious with lots of levels that are 2-3 steps up or down. Be careful to catch them all and not stumble. The service was my star deduction. The wait was 1.5 hours (added our names remotely) but upon arrival there seemed to be confusion. A server never came to take drink orders or provide silverware. We even got our first plates with nothing then had to ask the manager. She had someone come by but it was strange for such a busy day to forget us or not have assigned servers. Overall, the food was inconsistent. Some things were bland and others seasoned very well. The turkey sausage was mid and grits had no flavor - cheese grits at that. Maybe ordering off the menu will fair better. Great value for the price!

But we settled on the Deviled Eggs Crispy: topped with fried shrimp and bacon jam. Then for our entrée she ordered the Seared Sea Scallops over Crab Risotto, and I ordered the Braised Oxtails with Chuck Rice & Plantains. All I have left to say is "some good eating". Let me add some of the dishes that others around me ordered looked out of this world as well; Deep-Fried Snapper with African Gravy, Jerk-Braised Short Ribs with Curry Pea Risotto, and Teriyaki Tomahawk with Miso Butter just to name a few, looked amazing. When I looked at what they ordered and I looked at my order I was wondering the same thing for both of us; we are going to need a doggie bag because there is no way we could eat all this food in one sitting. It's bittersweet to see Chef Tobias leave. However, I think I speak for those in the DMV in saying thank you for serving such high-quality food and for being a true beacon in the community. Your restaurant has brought people together, created lasting memories, and made a meaningful impact that will not be forgotten. Though you are relocating to Florida I'm wishing you continued success as you begin this next chapter in another state. The same success the DMV brought you I pray for an even greater level of success in Miami along with the recognition you deserve. In my travels if I'm in Miami, I certainly will look you up. Now, typically I would end this review by saying the next time you're in the area please be sure to visit. But I say this with extreme urgency 'RUN DON'T WALK OR STROLL" because they will be closing after next week.

And to say it was underwhelming would be an understatement. I mean this experience might have been worse than the season finale of game of thrones. My wife ordered the oxtails and green jollof rice. First off, the rice tasted like wet grass. The oxtail was a sad excuse for oxtail. For context my wife is Caribbean so I've had my share of delicious oxtail, their oxtail tasted like they simply didn't even try. Now let's get to my food. I ordered the simplest thing on the menu the Steak and Frites. I'll give it to them the frites were pretty decent, but that's where my compliments end. I ordered my steak medium like a decent human being. The first steak came out and tasted like what I imagine an old used tire taste like, it was well done by the way. The next steak that came out 20 minutes later although closer to medium was surprisingly worse. It's was extremely rubbery with zero flavor. All together I would not recommend. The fact they sell this sad excuse for food is baffling. Sincerely, A concerned customer
