Upon entry, a welcoming host lead us to our table, where I found myself captivated by the intimate, "al fresco" setting and jazzy live music playing, as we took our seats on the terrace. Overlooking their cultivated, extraordinary grapevines in the distance, we learned they've been growing them for almost 20 years now and their wine operation has been producing classic vintages that encapsulate French, Italian and Spanish heritages for almost as long. The main, multi-story building and climate controlled barrel cellar resembles an Italian basilica, complete with Campanile tower, gracious decks, balconies and an artistic Galleria that looks into the immaculate tank room. As we settled in, we were excited to begin the experience of tasting their food and pairing it with some great estate wines. The gourmet restaurant offers an elegant fusion of world-class wines and seasonal cuisine, creating a truly unforgettable culinary journey. Under the guidance of Head Chef Alfredo Nava, his kitchen brigade takes pride in sourcing the freshest, locally grown vegetables, fungi and fruits from the Rogue Valley. This important detail was refreshing to hear, when considering the current standard for many restaurants is sourcing ingredients through Sysco or other broadline food distributors. Belle Fiore's menu is appropriately condensed to two pages, but offers something for everybody. From appetizers, a house-made pasta special, flatbreads, salads, mains, a vegetarian (GF) option and daily desserts made from scratch, I think you'll find a satisfying choice. For our meal, we chose the bruschetta on a fresh baguette to begin, with a flight of refreshing whites. Then our mains arrived in timely fashion by our attentive server and I was happy to see well plated dishes coming out hot from the kitchen. Colorful, generous and composed, all looking very appetizing as set gently before us. I had the pork porterhouse, pan-seared and roasted, then topped with preserved cherries over a layered slab of potatoes "au gratin", with steamed garden vegetables on the side. The 1" thick cut was perfectly cooked (not dry at all) and was as juicy as the tart cherries that balanced the rich meat well on the palate. Wifey had the filet of beef and happily shared a few bites with me. Honestly, it was the best entree of the night and the finest steak I have tasted in years. The tender filet was rare-mid-rare with a caramelized crust, topped with Rogue Creamery blue cheese crumbles for a little funk. Plated with roasted potatoes, steamed asparagus spears and sautéed wild mushrooms in a delicious demi-glacé, fortified with deep wine notes. I would go back tomorrow just for that dish. Both of our mains were paired with a flight of robust and jammy estate reds. Even though we were pleasantly stuffed, we had to try their cheesecake croissant dessert, just because it sounded interesting from the server's description. The beautiful slice arrived with macerated berries and a big scoop of pecan ice cream on the side. Unfortunately, I thought it could have been better (we make killer cheesecakes at home) and suspect it had been in the fridge for too long. Even though the flavors were sweet, bright and creamy, the texture suffered from being too dense and doughy. Fried chicken had a light crispy coating on the outside and the honey Aleppo mixture was great, though son said it could've used a little more salt. My scallops were some of the best scallops I've ever had before--so well cooked and perfectly seasoned and with these thinly sliced snap peas that were just barely blanched that added texture and freshness to the dish. As a chef at two James Beard-winning restaurants, a server, owner, and consultant, I have dedicated my life to the food industry and the people within it. I'm from Ashland, and I was so happy when places like this started showing up in my hometown. Good food and atmosphere can be so hard to find. Coming home to Ashland can be a true oasis for my family. My wife and I have made it our life's mission to make our daughter feel equal and included. Our daughter was born with a rare condition called AMC and does not have normal function in any of her limbs. She currently spends 3-4 days a week in physical therapy to continue building strength so her body and organs can function properly. We were visiting family at the park and suggested stopping in for a beverage and snacks to escape the heat after a long day. We typically plan everything ahead to ensure wherever we go can accommodate my daughter's wheelchair and needs. When we arrived, we thought, "Wow, perfect, she can wheel right in and up to one of the many open tables." Once we were "greeted" by the host, I realized we were not who she wanted to deal with. Three kids, three adults, a stroller, and a wheelchair. She looked like she wanted nothing to do with us, like we were dirt on her shoe. "No reservation," she said. I replied, "Yeah, so sorry, we figured since it was a Monday night right when you opened, and there were only two two-tops seated, we could probably find somewhere to sit." I reassured her we would not stay long enough to impact reservations at the larger front tables, which usually have reserved markers on them but did not at the time. We could all feel that she didn't want to seat us, and we left despite me practically begging to make something work for us, because I know she could have if she wanted to. Being from the industry, I understand what kids can do to an atmosphere, and I know a lot of restaurant workers don't enjoy dealing with other people's children. But when we went outside and my daughter cried and said, "They didn't want me there" So I loaded my daughter's wheelchair back into the car so I could carry her up the stairs at Brickroom, where one employee was working the entire place and took amazing care of us, I might add. We resorted to a booster seat for my daughter since she couldn't use her wheelchair there. She ended up falling out of the seat and slamming onto the hardwood floor. She cried and was embarrassed. The young man tending bar while also waiting every table rushed over with a bag of ice to comfort her. It was honestly touching how kind he was. When we left Brickroom, we had spent more time there than we originally intended to spend at Bar Juliet. As we walked back by Bar Juliet, we noticed the restaurant was still only about half full, and one of the large front tables had remained open the entire time from around 4:10 until 5:40 when we walked by again. I had to stop and ask the host why she couldn't have seated us considering that table never filled. Her only explanation was, "Our kitchen is slow getting food out." Such an incredibly weak excuse. I hope she understands she was wrong and that she made my daughter feel unwanted simply because accommodating us wasn't convenient for her. I have never left a review in my life, but I was so saddened and disgusted by this experience that I felt I had to.

A tablespoon of tasting vinegar + club soda = special fizzy treat *easy peasy* Tasting vinegar sounds strange, but give it a try *YUM* and actually super healthy and more importantly... Delicious!!! I tried and bought smaller bottles for a gift basket for the parents: Elderberry balsamic vinegar Blueberry balsamic vinegar Lemongrass Mint balsamic vinegar Nobody wants more "stuff", so something high quality, practical and delicious was an easy gift solution. They also have even smaller pairs and trios of already packaged oil and vinegars for a quick and affordable gift on the go (less than $20). There are some dishes that are excellent (some things even sell out before the evening is over), but unfortunately, not all. The hostess is absolutely wonderful - she is charming and funny and really has a talent for making you feel welcome and appreciated for dining with them. Unfortunately, the service is really hit and miss. On my last visit, the waitress really didn't seem like she had time for us. She didn't take the time to explain in much detail about menu items or the wine list. She didn't participate in any banter with us or really make us feel welcome. She seemed rushed, which has not been my experience with service here in the past. My biggest concern, though, is about the efforts of the staff and kitchen to keep items allergen-free. The restaurant advertises itself as a place that is Celiac knowledgeable and friendly. We made it clear in our reservation and to the waitress when we sat down at the table that one member of our party had Celiac and needed to be strictly gluten free. All seemed well and we ordered two appetizers marked as gluten free on the menu. One of those appetizers was served with bread. After the food had been delivered, the waitress must have noticed the issue and offered to have the kitchen remake the dish. We agreed (she left the original plate on the table and in the end we were only charged for one, so all good). The re-made dish was brought out, with bread on the side. There should not have been bread at all, it was very confusing. All in all I would return one more time and hope to have a different experience, but if that experience was the same as my recent one, I likely would not return.
