This cozy cafe is upstairs from the Bloomsbury Bookstore. There are couches, tables of different sizes, and a pollinators' garden out back for when the weather is decent. The ambiance alone is great for spending time with your bookstore purchases. The service was friendly and quick. It was just the one guy when we were there, making coffees and running into the kitchen to make food. But it didn't take long to get our order. The kids had a steamer and a hot cocoa. They were a little warm for immediate drinking so maybe specify if you want your beverage less than normal hot for kids. The cocoa also had a bit of a cinnamon flavor to it. I thought it was delicious, but if you have a purist cocoa drinker in your party, again, ask! The adults drank drip coffee. It was tasty too! If you are staying in, you will get a ceramic mug, so if you want a paper cup let your barista know. The big win for me was the menu of gluten free pastries! They had regular glutinous things like burritos and quiche that looked tasty but the gluten free!!!! They partner with a bakery in town (sisters sans gluten) to have a variety of offerings. I had a poppyseed muffin, but they had other breads and muffins that all looked good. The offerings change, but I was so excited to see gf options at all. Highly recommend this spot! Also!!! They open at 9 with the bookstore, which is a full hour before the other shops on Main Street. Start your day here. You won't be sorry. read more

As a long time "regular": This is my best place for reading, work meetings, getting writing done. The access from the alley is accessible to folks in wheelchairs. The patio/courtyard is quiet, away from traffic noise. Goodbean Coffee is excellent (more to my taste than Noble!) Most baked goods are gluten free. Dogs welcome in the courtyard. Downsides: hours may be erratic due to staffing shortages, so calling ahead may be advisable. The courtyard landscaping could use some clean up and sprucing up. read more

After lunch I needed my afternoon espresso and this place was recommended as other coffee shops were closed. It is above the bookstore and has a charming outdoor patio with shrubs, trees and shade. They didn't have a cortado but I asked for espresso with a little milk over ice and it was robust and smooth. Just what I wanted. The staff is friendly and they also serve wine. read more

Super cute little cafe in the top floor of a book shop with indoor and outdoor seating! I ordered a mocha with oat milk and the masala breakfast burrito. They were both yummy, but the mocha wasn't super chocolatey in my opinion, and I think the burrito was missing something, maybe a sauce on the inside. However the seasoned potatoes in it were delicious! Overall a super good experience! read more

Unfortunately I think they are living on their past reviews. The service was horrible (slow to greet and slower to ask to help, despite being the only one at the counter). Got a soda, asked for a cup with ice. It never came. The food was tasteless and small. The panini was not crisp, and although I got the Italian with lots of yummy things like artichoke hearts and pepperoncini peppers, it was meh. The space is gorgeous! The book store lovely. Fantastic spot. The coffee was excellent and the gentleman making the coffee was exceptionally nice, and had a good chat while he made my drink. This was literally the worst experience I've ever had at a coffee shop. Not only did they add 1.05 for non dairy milk, but also .50 for a to go cup, then tax. The employees were rude, straight up did not GAF. "I don't know what to tell you, I just press the buttons". He then proceeded to make my latte in the slowest, most nonchalant manner possible. A secret garden cafe and a bookstore downstairs. Only 1/2 a block from the Ashland Springs Hotel. They have sandwiches, quiche, and a featured salad plus coffee drinks and pastries for breakfast or an afternoon break. Casual and inexpensive. Music events in the evening. My husband loved the Chile Relleno quiche and I had the quinoa salad which was fresh and delicious. Day two we returned for cappuccino and pastries. Driving down from Portland to San Francisco Ashland is a good place to stop after 230 miles and the Bloomsbury Blends Cafe is a great place to stop for lunch!!! The 5 minutes it takes from the freeway is WELL worth the time compared to eating lunch at a truck stop or gas station. The Sausage Quiche is not just the best gluten free quiche I've eaten, it's the best quiche I've eaten, ever! Ah Ashland. Love this little town. Located on the second floor of a bookstore, you can also access this cafe street level by taking the back parking lot route. They have a lovely back patio area with fountain. Seating inside is comfy and there is free WiFi. Wish I had more time to spend here, but our pit stop at this spot came in handy. read more

I'm giving it one star for the ambiance. I ordered a cappuccino and was asked how many shots. Of course my answer is what size is the drink. I got a response "we are not starbucks." I was taken aback. I'm not a person who frequents at Starbucks and supports small businesses including smaller coffee shops. Maybe the guy just had a bad day and he later apologized to me. But I would not come back here. My coffee was bitter and I've had better coffee at other coffee shops in town. I've been coming here on and off since 2009. I've moved away and returned to find this quaint little coffee shop still here for me. A great place to read, study, have meetings. Such a unique and beautiful ascetic as well. Bloomsbury recently changed ownership and it had become even better. They now serve beer and wine after 11. The new owners have also gone out of their way to make some gluten free offerings as I have celiac disease. Be aware that the cafe charges you to sit down during music. They surprised us with a $20 fee to sit at their (wildly uncomfortable) metal mesh tables with no seat cushions. The enclosed garden area is crowded and stuffy with no opportunity for a breeze but it's pretty (1 star); and the small jazz band was ok (2nd star). Wine was overpriced and you have to go inside, order at a counter and serve yourself. No table service. Every other venue that charges a cover says so up front. With all the wonderful, sometimes free, music venues in Ashland there's absolutely no reason to come here. read more

When I'm browsing around the Bloomsbury Book Store, I sometimes forget that there's a great coffee house upstairs. It's separated off quite well from even the 2nd Floor part book shelves and when you enter the cafe, you really walk into a a very comfortable, cozy, and welcoming living room space. On the day I was upstairs, the coffee lodge was busy with an interesting mix of folks, some reading quietly, others hypnotized on their computer screen, and still more having spirited, yet friendly conversations about various subjects. Bloomsbury Blends is a darling cafe that you enter from the bookstore on Main St, or from the back on Enders Alley. The inside has many two-person tables as well as a few comfy chairs. Out back, there is a lovely patio with lush plants, a variety of seating options, and a small stage where they have live music (currently this happens on Thursday). The menu presents simple organic options, and there is a good selection of cold drinks in addition to your customary organic cafe beverages. They also have a select beer, wine, and homemade sangria! I could easily spend many hours enjoying the atmosphere and company of other patrons. This place has been my go-to for the majority if my almost-a-year stint in Ashland. The staff is personable, the coffee is good, and the atmosphere is great for working. The number of outlets could be increased for this purpose. These guys also have IMHO the very best breakfast burrito in town. Indian food? housemade, authentic Indian cuisine, an enormous turkey bacon club sandwich, and they had my favorite IPA on tap as well. the wait for lunch wasn't long, the service was excellent, and the outdoor seating could very well be the coziest and most beautiful atmosphere in ashland. if I had to register a complaint, it'd only be that they don't have a swimming pool for the summer heat. will definitely be back. read more
