Came here one morning for breakfast. The place is really old but that's what gives it its charm. The Good: --The chili cheesedogs: They are famous for their chili cheesedogs and rightfully so! We went for breakfast and they were serving them even at that time! A must try if you come here. --The chocolate chip pancakes: Got the chocolate chip pancakes and they were delicious --Very old place, been around forever and has a homey feel. What can I say about the Vienna Inn? It's the seediest place you can go to grab a meal in the Vienna area, given the options in the area. I came here for a business lunch with my boss and a coworker and needless to say, it was a bit odd. My boss managed to somehow talk me and my coworker (a huge health nut) into eating a chili dog. I'm really not that big of a chili dog fan but when in Rome, do as the Romans do (which is eat chili dogs). Needless to say, it wasn't too shabby, on chili dog terms. The entire visit felt like what was going to be a serious business lunch but ended up in friendly banter and people watching. Whew. The service was ok-- this ain't the Ritz so I wasn't surprised that our server let us be for awhile. The dining room itself felt like the makings of a ex- frat house-- ugly, woody furniture, tacky beer adverts on the walls. I thought that the paper place mats with crayon scribblings strewn around the restaurant, were kind of endearing- a bit like hanging up my own art upon a pseudo fridge door known as the Vienna Inn. Definitely for locals, which is awesome. How can you beat $1.85 for a chili cheese dog?? The food definitely isn't great, but the atmosphere is familiar and homey. Side story: while my friend and I were enjoying our meal, an elderly gentleman walked up to the fridge, got himself a six pack, walked up to the counter to pay, and walked right out. In my mind... there are 4 Vienna staples. Joe's, Skorpio's, Neighbor's (even if it sucks), and Vienna Inn. I define these as staples because if you're playing on one of Vienna's many talented youth sports team growing up, these are the places you end up eating a lot at. Let's do a quick run down on what this place will not have... * Waiters serving you soda or coffee * Liquor * Good bathrooms * A nice decor What they do have is chili. Beautiful, delicious chili served in multiple ways Macs, bowls, on burgers. However to really experienced the Inn... it's the Chili Cheese Dog (loaded) that you get. The Waitresses themselves are the ones that prepare them since it's literally just taking some pre-cooked dogs, putting them in a bun and assembling the toppings. Some how it takes 10 minutes to get them. I'll never know why, but I don't care. The chili is amazing and you probably are experienced enough in eating to know that onions, mustard and cheese add greatly to the experience of a chili dog. For 2 bucks, you get one of the best snacks in the area. The menu has substantially grown in the last 5 years. BBQ sandwiches, brisket, filet mignon, and this has to be for the soccer/baseball/stupid-crosse/football moms of Vienna... hummus. Don't get me wrong. I like Hummus.. but why, Inn, why? So there's now actually something for everyone here. Good beer selection, never gone towards the wine. Beer is fairly cheap. $1.79 for a 12 ounce mug. Growing up in Vienna, I spent a substantial amount of time here... whether it be after a sports game, a family Sunday meal, or all the bands playing at the VCC that night meeting for some late night dogs and wings.. it was usually the place everyone wanted to go. This is a place that really just adds to a gathering of friends or family with the atmosphere. Service could be way, way better than what it currently is. When my friend left for the bathroom the same waitress that seated us just took her utensils and placed them on another table. Also it would be better if the waitress had given us an unofficial check with the list of items we purchased before we went to the register. Anyone could easily make up their meal and that is unfortunate for the business. The decor is well, not really a decor. There are flimsy papers hung everywhere and the bathroom location is unappealing - directly between two tables. The wooden walls make everything look dirty instead of giving that cozy restaurant feeling. The food was decent but again the service was slow. I used to frequent this place a few years back and it was always the cheap dive with ok beers and great fries with cheese that would only set you back a few bucks. And that statement still holds true today, albeit a bit more underwhelming. I ordered a simple dish, grilled cheese with tomatoes and onions, fries on the side. The fries were a little crispy, a little hard. I can let that pass as it went decently with my beer. The sandwich well... I'll be honest. It came out cold, and the Kraft cheese that was on it was noticeably more hardened than when immediately freshly made. There wasn't a whole lot of it on there, either. The tomaties, they was cold, but more 'rind-y' than I'm used to. Still, fresh tasting. The onions were not grilled, and they were of the red assortment so they definitely made my breath a bit much to deal with after the fact. I ended up picking more than a few out for sheer overpowerment of the other lighter ingredients. I'm not trying to be a primadonna about it, for the prices they're asking you really can't complain too much. I just remember it being a bit better is all. I'll probably be back, but I'll prepare for the worst and hope for the best. But if that is was the worst, it could theoretically be much more so. read more

Some of these reviews are reasonable. Some are flat-out hateful. ("Goobers"? Really? Look, not everyone in Vienna lives in a McMansion, and that's part of its charm. If you want to isolate yourself with a bunch of snooty folks, go hang out at the Galleria.) The hot dogs actually aren't as good as they used to be. If you want chili and cheese, you're better off getting them on fries. The best surprises -- you can get good food beyond the typical dive bar offerings. Want grilled chicken on a solid salad? It's pretty good. I've had blackened tuna that was comparable to far more expensive fare elsewhere. They could stand to upgrade a bit without losing the character. Some of the benches slope forward at uncomfortable angles. A real bathroom would be an asset. So if you go in with the right expectations, you won't be disappointed. read more

This place for me is childhood. Honestly I was a bit deterred by this place growing up because I'm not white, but they are all friendly so it's all good! This was always the spot to come growing up, and now this is a gathering spot I come with my friends (who are white) to remember childhood. Now they are friendly, but there are more than one occasion I recall being "forgotten" here. (that is where the white companion comes in). I can't believe I am going to give this place four stars, but how can you not. This place is a total dive so if you want a restaurant without ripped seats, or a floor that isn't sticky from all the beer spilled on it, or a clean bathroom then you shouldn't come here. This place is a legend in Vienna and rightly so. They have great chili cheese dogs, wings, chili mac and cheese fries (my personal favorite). Beer is always flowing and you are guaranteed to meet some interesting characters. Waitresses aren't overally friendly, but since they are ususally way overworked I don't blame them. This is not the place you come to for 5 star service. We always go the night of the Halloween parade and this year the bagpipers came in after the parade and played. It was awesome! read more

Vienna Inn is one of those places that become instantly instilled with nostalgia. Also, it's a whole package deal, you come here for the friendly service, the welcoming atmosphere and oh so delicious chili-cheese dogs. Of course your visit won't be complete with out a heaping bowl of chili fries and a tall fountain drink. Whenever I return for the holidays or just to visit friends and family, I always make it a point to swing by and enjoy. I gotta give props to the Inn for always being a pretty good time, always a guarantee we'll run into someone from the high school we went to just down the street (whether we want to run into old high school townies is a different story) and for having great make-you-feel-real-good comfort foods. I probably go to the Inn once every trip back to Vienna. It's quaint, homey, a bit rustic, home to the local cops, neighboring locals that have lived here for decades and college kids home on breaks. It's not my bar of choice, but it does the job well when we go. It's close to home and always reliable for a cheap beer and greasy chili dog. It seems like it's changed a great deal since when it first opened though. Back in the day in it's first couple of years (before my time!) it was operated and owned by the Abrahams. From their pictures and story (see the website, history) they seemed like nice, wholesome folk. Now it's been overrun by either college girls home on break or girls not in college, but instead working here full-time, starting their journey as a full-time towney. I'll definitely keep coming as long as my parents still live in Vienna and I still have friends that come home for the holidays. Try their fries - they are damn good. read more

This family-friendly local dive is much more than a bar as indicated in the restaurant category and serves a variety of fare from breakfast to full meals. The VI has great brunch and breakfast menu. Excellent omelets and the kids love the chocolate chip pancakes. Great food at reasonable prices. Favorite lunch/dinner items are the chili dogs (yum) they also produce a respectable North Carolina pork BBQ that is perhaps the most authentic in the Northern Va / DC / MD region. This BBQ reminds me of the NC Lexington style in flavor - so good (one of our family favorites). The burgers are really good - better than most other burger joints in the area. The salads are fresh, good portioned and great quality and taste. In cooler weather you cannot pass up on the house made clam chowder. The chowder and chili recipes conveyed with the purchase of the VI from the original owners and for good reason - they're amazing. We simply love this place and highly recommend it for anyone looking for a inexpensive, yet great, breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack, or a cool one one a hot summer day (they offer a nice variety of beers on tap from local brews to national, international, and seasonal selections). read more

I love this dump. Just kidding. I do love it, but I suppose I shouldn't classify it as a dump unless I want Molly to yell at me (she's the older, more gruff woman who works there and is known for her, ahem, charm). It has a certain appeal, though I don't know what I'd call it. The service is, well serviceable. The price is CHEAP and the menu has something for everyone, much like a diner would, but on a smaller scale. I started going here when I was working on Int'l Drive - we'd truck over, a whole bunch of us and order up a bunch of greasy spoon type food. I can credit many a pound addition to my figure to this place. They serve good comfort type food like hot openfaced turkey sandwiches, turkey burgers, grilled reubens (they may sub turkey if you ask nicely), gravy fries - that sort of thing. Sometimes a grilled cheese sandwich with fries and soup hits the spot - and you can get that here too. It's the kind of place you don't tell cardiologists that you frequent. Yes, I am a fan. When you're looking for a divey place with cheap beer and food, you can not get any better than this. Someone told me to go there for the wings, which are okay, but not much different than what you can make at home with some Franks Hot. But that's not what this place is known for. It's all about the chili dogs. They're small, but for only a buck fitty you can afford to keep ordering until you explode. They're awesomely bad for you with that creamy nacho style cheese on top. Been coming to this place since the early to mid 90's and keep coming back which should tell you something. Also while I have had many of the appetizers which are all great bar food I don't think I have ever had anything but the chili cheese dogs for a meal. We love the Vienna Inn for everything from Breakfast to Lunch or Dinner to happy hour and drinks. I just took my kids here for a last day of summer breakfast. I had forgotten how good breakfast is here. My eggs were great and the potatoes were tasty and flavorful. The kids LOVE the french toast and rave it is the best of anyplace. The drinks are self serve but you can keep your coffee cup full. Service is super friendly and that morning Gaby was holding down the place by herself and still getting all the regulars their usuals. My friend actually tried to take me here a long time ago, but the place was so packed there was no place to sit! I'm glad I tried to check it out again. My friends are obsessed with this place so when I finally got to dine at Vienna Inn, I had pretty high expectations. Maybe it was because I had just finished a long bike ride on the W&OD trail (which basically leads you right to VI) and had worked up quite an appetite, but this place did not disappoint. Since it was my first time there were some things I wasn't aware of - seat yourself, serve your own drinks, and pay at the cashier - no problem. This place is no frills and that is expected when you can eat a meal for under 5 bucks. My friend and I both ordered the chili and cheese dog and boy, was I in heaven! They were gone in 3 bites and I found myself sopping up whatever chili had fallen off with my fries. So the fries - the fry itself was okay but it was perfectly seasoned. The real winner were the onion rings. They were so perfectly crisp and sweet. I'm glad I finally got to check this place out and am looking forward to going back. read more

This place has been there since the civil war and it looks it. That is not a bad thing as the dated look gives it a flair of authenticity and homeyness. When I sat down my neighbors recommended the dog with chili. I ordered one with cole slaw (my fav) and it came about 10 minutes later. A bit long for a hot dog, but what the heck. I bit into it and it was really good. Nice snap to the skin and the chili was not overpowering. I enjoyed it and lets face it, you go here to feed your face and have your stomach expand. Do you know that place "Dick's", where the wait staff treats you like crap, but it's all a big joke? The Vienna Inn is like that, only they're not joking. "The Inn" has been around for over 50 years. Their specialty is anything greasy. Most people come here for the cold, cheap beer and the chili dogs. The Inn is known for being a real hole, but it's a loveable hole. It's is a classic dive bar/restaurant, usually filled with softball teams celebrating a win, drunkards who have been kicked out of every other bar in town, or people like me, who just can't seem to stay away. read more

The food is usually okay, (sometimes it's even good), the service a little slow but that only adds to the ambiance, the prices are reasonable, and the atmosphere..... well, you have to experience it first hand. For example, I went to the men's room and the paper towel dispenser was empty so they hung a roll of paper towels over the stall using old sneaker laces. I'm not too enthusiastic about this place. The food is cheap, but nothing out of the ordinary. Pretty unmemorable, actually. Decent, but not anything you would normally take the time and money to dine out for. In my experience, this place seems to stay in great business because of the bar, as it is one of the only places to get a drink in Vienna. So it can get kind of awkward if you aren't one of the ex-jock dads that frequent the place. It feels as if you are treated differently. The tables are also frequently sticky with beer. Tips for not feeling so awkward: you seat yourself (there is no sign mentioning this and the waitstaff is not so attentive to inform you of it) and there is no bill handed to you: you simply tell the cashier what you have, honor system. The cups for soda are by the fountain if I recall--you don't order it from the waitress. Two stars because the food is dirt cheap. You can't get much cheaper than Vienna Inn. It knows that it isnt the REAL DIVE that it used to be years ago when my dad and grandfather used to drag me in here as child after the Vienna Halloween parade to guzzle down some beers served by salty old waitresses. Having just run my first race ever (go me), I was STARVING! And, because I had just burned off 1000+ calories, I was willing to eat something a bit out of my healthier food norm. My fiance and I decided to head on over to Amphora in Vienna, but on the way, spotted the Vienna Inn. I've lived here nearly a decade, and he over three decades, and neither of us had ever been, so we detoured in. And are we glad we did! For this small town gal, it was a welcome sight. Upon entering, you're immediately aware of the type of experience you're going to have. This place is not new...the booths are worn, the chairs torn and there's placemats adorned with childlike artwork on the walls. There's a bar which is at the very center of the restaurant, and it 'separates' the smoking section from the non...uh, not so much. Anyhoo... We stood like tourists at the door for a moment, okay, a lot of moments, before we realized we should just seat ourselves. Within moments, our server arrived to take our order - we had breakfast - and were informed that we were to serve ourselves our own drinks. We were shown where the cups/spoons/drinks were, and with that, she was off! As this tradition is generally reserved for take-out joints, it was a bit different, but hey, it fit in with the feel of the joint so we were totally down with it. Our food took no time to arrive...maybe just 5 minutes until we had our pipping hot breakfast choices and we were ready to dig in. At nearly that same moment, the folks sitting next to us got their food - chilli dogs! I commented to them that the dogs must be good b/c the placemat over my fiance's shoulder had an elephant drawn with a bubble reading 'I LoVe chilli doggs!!!!!' Who can argue with a crayon elephant after all? She let us know that she'd been coming since she was a child -some 30 years-and enjoying the dogs, so we decided we be back for them another day. We're already looking forward to going back for them for lunch. Especially since we both ate for $15 including tip - outrageous value in an authentic, non-pretentious atmosphere. Loved it! read more
