So VERY disappointing.....the Crab Cakes were nothing but bread and spice, if there was any crab it was undetectable. I ordered a Greek salad that was composed of 1/2 cup greens, one chunk of feta and three olives!!! And possibly one whole supermarket tomato half ripe sliced under all. My husband and a friend ordered the Clams Linguini ..one might think there would be a good amt. of linguini as it costs pennies to put on a plate. Not here. The whole meal was expensive and a very underwhelming disappointment. Won't be going back. read more

My friends and I came here at 4pm for the first time. Immediately, we were greeted by the manager who asks "can I help you?" in a condescending tone making it seem like we were imposing on something. Definitely not a friendly welcome for customers entering a restaurant. We said that we would like to be seated, and she asked if we all had IDs without asking if we would like to drink. We explained that not all of us were going to drink, but we wanted to be seated and order food. We were seated and given the wrong menus three times. My friends handed the waiter their IDs and he walked away from the table with them without saying anything. We decided to leave because we felt really uncomfortable and unwelcome. read more

Was excited they re-opened after adding a raw bar. However, was a bit underwhelmed. 6:30 reservations for 4 was ok, but the tables were too close together and it was quite hot in the restaurant. Ordered the Steak, but requested the asparagus on a separate plate due my dislike of it ( a longer story I told the waiter), but my wife wanted it. Needless to say, the steak came on top of asparagus. The beer I ordered seemed warm as did my wife's. The menus was interesting, but a bit limited IMHO, and while aspirational, not inspiring. We ordered coffee and I got an apple tart for dessert, which was good. However, I asked the waiter for a new glass of water, as all of ours were mixed up in the middle of the table. The waiter contemplated the glasses and "chose" one saying it was mine. Needless to say, I asked for a new one. The service was slow and the waiter was a bit new at things. While we had high hopes, the evening just did not meet the high cost of the dinner (we only had 1beer each, so the ps was all food. And for about $37 for the steak, which came medium, not medium rare, and was not a prime cut, I was disappointed. I really try to support the local Chatham restaurants, but Bistro will be put off the list until perhaps the fall when hopefully they get things sorted out. read more

We LOVED this place. Every kind of local oyster is available, all on a thick bed of ice and perfectly shucked. The cooked items were delicious, as well - the only slight disappointment were the parmesan garlic fries, which didn't live up to their delicious description and tasted slightly sour. The desserts were fantastic, particularly the chocolate peanut-butter torte, though it didn't need the sauce at all - just the fresh whipped cream they served with it. Had a great afternoon visiting Chatham Bars and the Wild Goose. Later in the day we made the trip to Bistro On Main for their 3:30 opening and the doors were still locked. We headed for ice cream while waiting for this restaurant to open. We then headed back with our ice cream and the older woman bartender avoided us even though there were only 2 others in the bar. When she finally came over, her first words were "you're not supposed to bring outside food in." We mentioned we'd make it up in tips and her next comment was along the lines of, "don't let the owner know" Eye roll and we out. read more

Wandered in here for a drink and some oysters, sat in the bar after the hostess tried to put us at a hidden corner table. 2 drinks and 3 dozen oysters later, we were very satisfied. Went back again 2 nights later for a repeat. Best oysters ever with a choice of 6 different sources. Also tried the raw clams and fried calamari, all fresh and delish. Conflicted one night in an attempt to settle on something to munch on. We perused numerous menus and Yelp reviews and settled on Vining's for our evening repast. Continuing on the indecisive train we settled on splittnig a few apps between the three of us. Brit ordered the Mexican Hat Dance - 4 grilled and spiced gulf shrimp laid on a guacamole coated tostada with black bean mojo, chipotle aioli and mango puree. Sweet dense shrimp paired with sweet and smoky flavor and a bit of heat made this a great selection. I ordered their dish stew with clams, white fish and shrimp. Hearty and filling with a good depth of flavor. I also ordered the Clams Balboa - Chatham little necks roasted and served in a cast iron skillet with olive oil , garlic and chilies. There was a little grit in the sauce, but the clams were succulent, and the sauce was good enough to sop up with the thick piping hot bread served with the meal. Lastly we ordered the grilled garlic bruschetta with goat feta and roasted tomatoes. Acidy sweetness from the tomatoes paired with the salty unctuousness of the goat cheese feta laid on a thick crunchy slab of bread. In looking around it appears as all dining options are visually appealing, as well as there being a lot of food served on a plate. One could almost skip the starters and just go with a main and be perfectly sated. Service was attentive without being overbearing. Dinner was a success. read more

My husband and I stumbled across this place after being turned away at all the more popular restaurants in Chatham (it was 8:15 on a Monday night in July). We almost missed it, because it's located above a gift shop/pizzeria. Thankfully, he happened to look up and saw diners in the window upstairs! What an unexpected delight this bistro turned out to be. The service was very good - our waitress was friendly and attentive. The food was outstanding. Pan seared scallops and roasted chicken were both delicious, as was the dessert (which we didn't need but couldn't refuse). We went out thinking we'd have to settle for *fried fried* and ended up having a lovely romantic dinner. Definitely will return. read more

After we were thrown out of The Wild Goose Tavern for having a tiny dog in a pet carrier with us we came here and couldn't be happier with this outcome. The service was friendly, food was excellent (we had the mussels, Cesar salad and clam chowder soup), cocktails and beer were good and the had no issues whatsoever with our puppy in a bag under the table on the outside patio. Place was very nice and the waiter was very attentive to us, even though the place was packed. I had a mushroom cheeseburger and it was delicious. My husband had the fish and chips and he couldn't stop talking about how moist the cod was, he was very impressed. Children had burgers and bistro dogs and they loved it. If I closed my eyes, it would have been a great dinner. The decor is outdated and needs updating. My husband sat across from me and next to an outlet in the wall where he swears "Mr. Freeze" lives and that it was Mr. Freeze's job to blow as much cold air at him as possible. The tables seem like they have formica tops and the chairs need some serious fabric updating and while we're at it, so do the curtains. I couldn't quite figure out why there were 2 life-sized stuffed animal bears sitting at the bar. OK, that being said. My french onion soup sans cheese (I am now vegan after reading Skinny Bitch) was awesome. So tasty and warmed me right up. I had the vegetarian clay pot with jasmine rice, only 1 of 2 vegetarian options on the menu. And don't try to ask them to make something veggie, it says right on the menu "please do not ask the chef to alter, remove or add any ingredients to the dishes on the menu". Anyway, it was delicioso. The cabernet franc would have been better if it were served in a clean glass. (Jay spotted that, of course) Jay had the ceasar salad and the bottom (hidden) uncut leaf was all brown! Gross. He did say the dressing was good though. He also had a pasta special with scallops, shrimp, spinach and some other stuff. His review: not enough pasta, and the sauce was too busy with too much going on. We didn't stay for dessert, as Mr. Freeze was doing a good job and Jay was nearly frozen. read more

Beautiful location and the food was awesome. We had our two children with us and it was past their bedtime, so we were hoping to get in and out fast and the service was great. Our waitress was so helpful with getting our leftovers packed and was very sweet to our children. The kids loved their food and ours were delicious and perfectly cooked. Wine was great too. Because I was in such a hurry, and we were on the patio where it was darker, I left my sunglasses. I didn't realize they were missing until we were on our way back to CT to next morning. When I called the restaurant to see if they had them, the man who I talked to was so nice and mailed them to me a couple of days later. I highly recommend Bistro On Main! read more

My family has been visiting Chatham for years but we have never tried Vining Bistro before. We tried to go to another place that had an hour wait so we took a walk and I said "hey, this place has great reviews on Yelp!" so we decided to try it out. What a GREAT decision! We had a lovely time here. The ambience is lovely and romantic. We ordered mostly off the specials menu- I had a grilled shrimp skewer and my dad had some delicious steamers. My mom does not eat seafood so she had a chilled cucumber soup that was very tasty. For my entreé I had a perfectly cooked local striped bass with a pepper butter sauce. Yum. Everything there is cooked over this incredible wood-fired grill and it gives all of the food a wonderful flavor. My mom had an AMAZING rotisserie chicken that I would highly recommend. Love this place and will come back the next time I am in Chatham! read more

The waiter added extra tip on top of the tip we gave. I contacted the bistro manager about the issue. The manager apologized and said he would address it. He didn't. .. So not only a dishonest waiter, but also a manager who doesn't care. Otherwise, the food and the atmosphere were fine. read more

This is an average to above average spite in Chatham. The plus is it is on Main Street and has buckets of parking. They have outdoor seating in the summer too. Great big honking bar in the restaurant as well. Lots of fresh shellfish at their raw bar. It is completely local in terms of its origin. The prices are pretty reasonable for Chatham and you will see locals eating there as well. While the location is great, the space is more office than restaurant. Low ceilings with crummy ceiling tiles really reck what could be an intimate and fun spot. The chef also believes that garlic is the only seasoning in his kitchen. So the bottom line is the menu is pretty unimaginative over all. A bit more attention to the menu would help this place a lot. read more

This was our first trip back to the bistro since it relocated. The food seems to be of the same quality and creative nature as before. The ambiance is still developing but is minor once you start eating. The crab cakes are still great and come with the cucumber pickle, I'm glad they didn't get rid of these. The cherry stone clam chowder was one of the best ever as was the mushroom risotto appetizer. The Thai Beef Salad with peanut noodles was terrific but the presentation could be cleaned up a bit. I feel they'll be able to succeed at this new location and anyone staying in the area should give them a try. It's not boring food but its also easy to identify what's on your plate. Stopped in for a glass and some apps. Lots of 'em. Normally, I love a place that locals patronize. Its nice to rub elbows with folk that actually live nearby in the land of Too Many Tourists. However, upon bellying up to the bar, the first words out of their mouths was "so you found a hooker." I'm not sure if they were addressing my husband or I but we remained good humored despite this gritty, drunk group. They meant to be funny about the hooks for purses below the bar but since they slurred their words and I just wasn't expecting that from a relatively expensive and well reviewed place. Luckily they staggered out shortly thereafter. Despite the rough bunch, we had decent carnitas and grilled veggies. The bartender (Bob?) was great. Its too bad that a few boorish folks can color one's impression but they did. We may return. Not sure. read more

We made reservations for this restaurant one month before arrival We were 4 adults and one baby .When we arrived for dinner we asked to seat outside ,the hostess was rude and advised us they don't have high chairs . Had they said that at the time of our reservation we would have picked a different restaurant .We should have left then but stayed because the baby was hungry and it was busy in town. As for the food it was just ok. Nothing to speak of . We were very disappointed .Not Family friendly !!!!! read more

Disappointing meal: Waiter Anthony had limited knowledge of alcohol service & was unable to understand what is expected when a drink is ordered without a liquor specified, (no call shot, use well liquors). Decided to try the swordfish, a Special of the Day, and found that it was under seasoned before cooking, then over cooked (it was dry), and then covered with an entirely forgettable white sauce of no particular taste or texture. Bistro is a popular venue, so you should make a reservation, but if you can't get a table, you haven't missed much. There are a dozen other places in Chatham that can present a better dinner AND know how to make drinks. read more

Food was mediocre at best. We go the crab cakes to start. Those were very poorly done. The steak was average the vegetable ravioli was okay. The restaurant tried rushing us out. The service was extremely quick but the felling was that they wanted us out and he food was pre prepared. It was priced like one of he nicer restaurants in the area. Owner: 0 stars The owner greeting us along with the hostess. The owner saw that we had 2 kids in our party, both of which are preteens. She nudged the hostess holding the menus, and from the whispers, it was quite obvious that she wanted to change tables. The replacement table was terrible. The appetizers were probably the best part of the meal. We got these yummy deep-fried duck rolls and a piece of toast with avocado and brie on top that was decorated with cucumber. The presentation of the food was nice. The Clam Chowder is average and had no taste. The kids portions was strange. On the menu, the main dish was supposed to be a fish 'n chips, but the majority of the actual food on the plate was fries. A cute fries holder was huge and was piled with fries. Two sad little nuggets with fish inside were apparently the fish part of fish 'n chips. Four pieces of broccoli with no taste, and 4 orange tomatoes accompanied the nuggets. Visit the raw bar. Great drinks, a varied selection of fresh oysters from across the cape, and very personable service staff.

First time in Chatham, food was really good. Had great scallops dish that was also gluten free. Seems like you can't go wrong there.

We went here for dinner twice now and have had fabulous food and service. It's too bad other reviews bring this restaurant down because it's not kid friendly. There are plenty of places that are kid friendly on the cape. This place has execellent food and that's what I base my rating upon. read more
