This place should shut down for serving inedible food. The duck is served raw and upon requesting it be properly cooked (medium rare, right?) it was returned burned nearly to a crisp, dried out, and fit only for the garbage bin. Wouldn't return. The frito misto app was great (the spicy cheese-like aioli really made the dish), but everything else was a disappointment. The $32 hot lobster roll was so dry and the lobster was shredded into very thin pieces instead of being chunks. It tasted like it had been made in advance and let to sit out. The clam chowder was awful - it was thinner than even regular soup should be - the flavor was good but the consistently was pure water! I wouldn't take off stars for this because I know that varies dramatically, but there was only one sever assigned to the entire patio during Monday on Main (ie busy) so we had to wait forever for drinks and refills, and our appetizer plates weren't cleared until the mains came. It would be worth hiring additional help or not seating so many people in that section. read more

We had a reservation at another restaurant the evening we dined at Viera. But upon our walk into town from the Chatham Bars Inn, we stumbled across Viera and took a look at their menu. We liked a lot of the items we saw that included seafood dishes local to the Cape Cod area. We changed our plans and decided to try Viera's out. Needless to say we were not disappointed with our choice. The wine list, service and menu options were on the money and very reasonably priced. We enjoyed our dinner outside and loved it but also checked out the inside to find a nice ambiance. We highly recommend Viera's when visiting or staying in the Chatham area! read more

After 144 restaurants reviewed on YELP (very few negative ones) I have finally found the top rated "avoid at all establishment" This one take the top prize...hostess had a ego so big that it is surprising she can fit her head thru the door way. So we are exploring the quiet town of Chatham looking a place for dinner for my wife, 2 year old son and myself. Side note: We live in Charleston SC and have had no trouble taking our son to places like Halls, Grill 225, Magnolias, SNOB etc. (10 times the reputation, environment and quality places than the one being reviewed) We roll up to their front door area and look over the menu and see many options on their kids menu...place looks dead so we figure it's a perfect spot for the three of us. We take our son out of his stroller and open the door to the warm greeting of "ya we don't have high chairs" my wife and I were both confused as we didn't ask for one...the hostess keeps her cold poker face strong and just slightly shakes her head side to side non verbally saying "get lost people" We were completley shocked that she was so openly wanting send us elsewhere. You are seating people at at a resturant in Chatham not the Le Bernardin in NYC. It was 5pm in the off season...the place was empty...like not even a single paying customer empty. I lead a small business of 19 locations and as much as I hate receiving negative reviews they are often the awakening to understanding changes needed to be made...those being either eliminate kids menu or the hostess. read more

Placed an order for menu items including happy hour shrimp, clams and oysters. 3/4 shrimp arrive and the clams. Other items arrive including chicken lollipops and calamari. No oysters. At another table a child is served fish and chips. How did that child get that we ask, oh it's on the children's menu they reply. What children's menu we ask... Fish and chips order placed and delivered. Still no oysters. Ask about the oysters. What oysters! Oysters order placed 45 mind after we originally thought it was. Food is well prepared and presented. Truly a tourist trap if you are walking down Main. Stumbled upon this place for lunch on a Thursday after exploring some of the shops among the throngs of other summer tourists. Ordered a chicken sandwich which was the definition of average - store-bought potato bun, not bland but not delicious chicken with lettuce and tomato. My daughter had the crab cake sandwich which was a bit soft. They do have a children's menu that they don't publish (pasta, chicken fingers, a sms burger) so do ask for it if you are dining with kids. All in all, $120 out the door for lunch for 3 adult and 2 kid lunch with non-alcoholic beverages. Service was friendly and accommodating. read more

After reading reviews we decided to try the Bistro on Main. We were unable to find a menu and posted one after our visit (you're welcome). Service good, food came out super fast and was just so-so. We hosted my son's rehearsal dinner and welcome party here and everything was excellent start to finish. Working with Alfred was a dream- easy, accommodating and responsive. Food is excellent! Staff is kind and friendly and efficient. Couldn't have asked for a better place- it was casual, warm and superb food and drink. So much better than any hotel venue could have been. Hard to find anything redeeming about our experience here. I should have looked for reviews about kid friendliness before going, because when I searched they shared what we experienced: no strollers inside (which I understand is typical for the area), but no high chairs or booster seats and no changing table in the bathroom. However, we were able to sit outside and keep my toddler in the stroller. Fine. But the food was underwhelming and the service was poor. They did have a kids menu but it was extremely overpriced. $12 for a crustless grilled cheese seems a bit much. No water refills until we specifically requested it with the check. I asked for bread with my mussels and they said yes but never brought it. The Cesar salad had only four croutons, four anchovies, and nothing but a bunch of kale. The potato salad tasted odd and my husband didn't like the fish sandwich (note that it is HUGE). The staff was friendly enough but it seems they were not prepared for it to be so busy mid-week since the weather wasn't beach-friendly. While in Chatham, we enjoyed eating at the Bistro on Main twice and were quite happy with the food and service both times. The first visit was for an evening dinner. I had the grilled fresh sea bass which was in season and according to our server had been filleted by the chef just that morning. It was quite good, served with a risotto cake and a vegetable dish. I thought the mustard based sauce was a little pungent and strong for this delicate fish. My wife had the fried day boat scallops which I tasted. They didn't seem quite as fresh as others we ate on our vacation in Chatham. We returned a couple of days later for the raw bar happy hour where we indulged our cravings for local oysters and raw clams during the half price raw bar happy hour. The cherry stones and littleneck clams were salty and delicious while the oysters were top grade from Wellfleet and Chatham. We weren't quite as impressed with the shrimp cocktail. Needless to say, it's hard to beat cape cod and a good restaurant for tasty shellfish. read more

I have to agree with many reviewers. Value is missing here. For $30 entrees, you just expect something special. What's missing at Bistro is the seafood. There are a few entrees here and there, but not enough. When I'm on the Cape, I'm not looking forward to chicken and steak. I want seafood. With that out of the way, I would definitely recommend Bistro for cocktails, oysters and apps. There is a lengthy list of appetizers and several types of oysters. For cocktails, I could start at the top of the cocktail menu and just moved through. They all look great. read more

This review is based on five visits during July 11-25, 2020, four on the patio with our English Springer Spaniel Tina, and outstanding service from Nick, Leah, and Sally. We've tried over 2/3 the appetizers and half the lunch and dinner menu entrees with NO disappointments and several repeat performances. The angel hair pasta is exceptional by itself, and pairs well with shrimp and salmon. Mussels el diablo is an unexpected combo of shrimp, clams, cod, and rigatoni [unless it was custom made for me]. Greg and I went to walk around Chatham, and had a 9:00 reservation. But we figured that was way too late, and we were already hungry. Seeing how Vinings had good yelp reviews, we called and they said they could seat you if you call 30 minutes prior. This was not necessary since the restaurant opened at 5:30, and it was 5:20. We awkwardly waited outside for it to be 5:30, only to find out that we could have gone inside and sat at the bar first. We did think it was weird if they weren't open for lunch or before food was served. Apparently we were just naive in thinking that if they said they opened at 5:30, the door would be locked. It also was very confusing because the sign in the parking lot, and on the front door, has a different name for the restaurant... so we weren't sure if we were going to the same highly acclaimed place or not until we actually saw the name on the menu. We were seated outside, which first really bothered me that the deck was in a parking lot. Greg would not tolerate my comments of, " how can this place be so nice if we are eating in a parking lot". But after a sweet (Romantic) pandora list i soon forgot. Our waiter only offered us 1 of 2 choices to sit at for a table of 2 (which were lined right next to the window), but the next person was offered another table that was secluded under the trees! We were slightly offended. We also were concerned as we were one of few there...but after about 15-20 minutes the place was completely jammed. This place gets 4 stars because it exceeded all expectations (considering the name confusion, siting in a parking lot, looking directly in another couples eyes through the windows etc.) and delivered extremely well. Our bread was phenomenal (thats all that matters, right?!), my wine was perfect. I got the swordfish special and finished every bite, but the sauce was a bit too tangy for my liking (Again, rule number 1, no sauces). Greg got the chicken and devoured it... even all of the fresh greens! I really shouldn't of gotten the swordfish...my mercury levels were probably through the rough because it was my second serving in 5 days... but it is the swordfish season so it was to good to pass up! I can worry about my mercury later... Their menu is primarily seafood/fine dining options (roast duck etc.), but for a very reasonable price and excellent service. read more

Our favorite Chatham restaurant during a three day stay, we visited during Restaurant Week and were able to take advantage of more reasonably priced menu options. My Portuguese Scrod was an excellent choice and a dish that I wish I could have again. Wonderfully fresh and mild fish was complemented by a flavorful broth and deliciously fresh vegetables all served on rice with ground chorizo. My clam fritters were my least favorite part of the meal but the apple tarte tatin was absolutely delicious. Service was friendly, prompt and efficient. Everyone recommended this place but maybe it just wasn't their good night. The sangria was so watered down we didn't take a chance with having it redone that we just had it replaced with wine and beer. The caesar salad with white anchovies was good and the croutons very crispy, but there was too much dressing and I could hardly find any kale (as it was supposed to be a romaine lettuce and kale caesar). The duck spring roll was good. The clams linguini was also good. The outdoor seating was very nice. But overall for the price and hype, I was a bit disappointed and so I only give it a three star. read more

First time visitor to Chatham and checked this place out. Don't let the confusing sign stop you from going in. When we arrived at 3:30 it was 1/2 price on the raw bar. We got 6 jumbo shrimp and they were delicious, you could taste how fresh they were. We also got calamari and chicken bites. Everything was tasty and seemed fresh. The only issue is the signage on the front of the restaurant. It seems to have two names: the raw bar and the bistro on main. Don't be confused, it's the same place. read more

Hot and cold lobster rolls were both perfection. Massive single roll on perfectly toasted buttery roll. Not a hotdog roll, it's a hunk of bread cut into the classic roll but it is MUCH larger than anyone else's. Served with a lightly dressed house salad and cabbage slaw, at $30, it is a better value than your get on the fishing pier for something served to you in styrofoam.
