VB COMBO- cup of pho and ban mi- $9
    Caitlyn B.

I reviewed the second location quite a long time ago. Since then that location has closed and now it's just this one on Fry. My first impressions of this place were not good, and I had given the other location a couple chances and settled on two stars. I really wasn't fond of it, and still found myself driving to Lewisville for the best pho. Recently a friend asked me if I wanted if I wanted to tag along for lunch and she suggested here. I was a tad hesitant but I wasn't about to say no to a pregnant lady. Upon walking in, they have a different set up from the other location. The other one was a sit down style restaurant, while this one is more order at the counter, grab your food and go. I think that style works better for this area of town, and I prefer it as well. I also dig the fact that they have a toppings bar, with plenty of fresh ingriediants. There is no one watching you so you can feel free to put as much chili oil as you want! Since my first visit just a short time ago, I believe I've already come more than 10 times easily. The way they cook the tofu is easily one of my favorite in Denton. They get it perfectly crisp on the outside and just soft enough on the inside. It pairs well in the noodle bowl or the ban mi sandwich. I find both to be really good, with very fresh and bright ingredients. I see a lot of comments on the pho not being authentic and I think I would agree. It's defiantly not the best, so I stick to the other dishes. I haven't had any meat here yet so I can't really speak to how good it is here or not. The service here every time is very good. Everyone has always been helpful and pleasant. It seems no matter how busy they are, they usually get me my food in five minutes or so. Overall, I'm really surprised at how much I like this place after my previous visits. It's easily become one of my top lunch spots and I find myself craving it!

    Pork banh mi, egg rol

Really good value, really good food. I had the pork banh mi and added an egg roll. The roll was mostly meat so that's a plus for anyone who's a little less of a fan for some veg. The banh mi was very nice. The veggies were fresh and matched the high quality of the roll and the pork wasn't bad at all. They've got a sign on the cooler correctly indicating all beers are just $2 right now, making dining in a great option.

I love the vibe of this place! I always smelled their food every time I walked to class in the afternoon, and it always smelled good. I decided to try it and it was pretty yummy! The reviews made me hesitant but honestly this place didn't deserve such awful reviews. I ordered the Pho in large and got the special meat combination--- it was pretty tasty! It was a bit bland, but honestly it leaves room for all the stuff people put in their pho. Don't even lie my fellow viets, y'all drown your bowls of Pho with sriracha and hoisin sauce before you even try it. Idk why so many Vietnamese people complained about the authenticity of the food. It was fine, they just adjusted a few things to make it easier for people who aren't accustomed to our cuisine. There are even Vietnamese people working and cooking the food. Just because you didn't like the food, doesn't mean it's not authentic... Anyways, try it out before you make your judgement. The Vietnamese lady working in the front was awesome and really nice. She made my food

I have eaten at enough sushi restaurants to know the formula…read more Step 1: Install bamboo. Step 2: Add a dragon. Step 3: Play mysterious flute music. Step 4: Name every roll after either a volcano, a ninja, or an apocalypse. Komodo Loco apparently looked at that formula and said, "Nah." This place has actual character. The restaurant is dark and cool without feeling like you're being interrogated. There are cozy little nooks everywhere, and somehow it manages to feel both laid-back and upscale. Like if a speakeasy and a sushi restaurant had a child who grew up with excellent taste. Then the food arrived. Look, I've had plenty of sushi. I've had good sushi. I've had "my friend won't stop talking about this sushi" sushi. Komodo Loco belongs in the last category. The fish was incredibly fresh, but what really stood out was that the rolls didn't all taste like slight variations of spicy mayo negotiating with cream cheese. The flavors were genuinely original. We ordered the Crispy Rice Bites, the T-Dub Roll, and the Horacio Roll based on our server's recommendations. The Crispy Rice Bites were so good I briefly considered ordering a second round before I had finished the first. The T-Dub Roll disappeared from the plate so quickly that I suspect it may have violated several laws of physics. The Horacio Roll was one of those dishes that makes you stop talking mid-sentence and stare into the middle distance while reconsidering every life choice that led you to not order two of them. Which brings me to our server: Breann. Or Breanna. I apologize for not knowing which one. In my defense, I was busy entering a committed relationship with sushi. My daughter is moving to Denton, and since we don't live here, we asked what we should order. Breann/Breanna immediately became the Gandalf of menu navigation. There was no hesitation. No "everything is good." No vague server diplomacy. Just confident recommendations that absolutely delivered. She was kind, funny, helpful, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. More importantly, she made my daughter feel at home in a city she's about to call home. As a dad, that meant a lot. I also loved how Komodo Loco celebrated Pride Month. Not because restaurants have to weigh in on everything, but because the atmosphere simply communicated: "Hey, you're welcome here." And honestly, that's one of the best things a restaurant can do. Good food fills your stomach. A welcoming place fills the room. Komodo Loco managed to do both. So yes, I'll be back every time I'm in Denton. My daughter thinks she's moving here for school. I think she's moving here so I'll have an excuse to eat at Komodo Loco several times a year. One of us is probably right.

It wasn't very busy at the time, but our drinks still took about ten minutes to arrive. We started with potstickers, which were delicious, and our little one's avocado came out quickly, which we appreciated. However, after placing our order, we noticed several tables seated after us receiving their food before we did. At one point, we were concerned our order may have been overlooked. When the food finally arrived, it was very good--no complaints there--but the wait was a bit disappointing, especially since most of what we ordered were appetizers. Overall, we'd still come back, just hoping for a smoother experience next time.
