I'm originally from Vietnam. Like other Vietnamese people, Pho is one of my favorite dishes. I have tried Pho in so many restaurants in Boston area, but none of them satisfied me. Last week, my co-worker told me about "Viet Citron" as a "must try" place to taste Pho (he has been going to this restaurant in 2 years). Today, I drove nearly 20 miles from Andover, and the small restaurant was very busy when I arrived. However, the atmosphere was very relaxed, the servers were very friendly and quick. It took around 15 mins before the staff brought Pho "Dac Biet" to me (it's acceptable as they were very busy at that time). Trying my Pho, I though that I was back in my home country, surrounded by my family members and together enjoyed. They did very good job, the broth, the rice noodle, the meat, and the herb all created the perfect taste. I was not surprised when I knew that a Vietnamese family ran this restaurant because the taste was so similar and they also imported special spices from Viet Nam. I also order spring rolls and Vietnamese coffee "Nau Da" but they were just acceptable - nothing special to compare with other restaurants. In short, this is the best Pho in Boston area which I have tried so far. read more

The food here is delicious. Broth that has been cooked down for a good number of hours, charbroiled meats with incredible flavors, and herbs! So much beautiful lush herbs added to every dish - it makes an otherwise heavy meat dish a delightfully refreshing combination with every bite. They often have a list of specials every day, although from what I've seen the majority of them run out quite quickly. The pork ribs are a delight, and I love the idea of local pasture raised chicken pho. A little bit more on the pricey side for pho, totally worth it for the quality, and I highly recommend it if you're in the area. Just a note that if you do come during rush lunch or dinner hour, expect a wait, even for takeout. read more

Finally get to try Viet Citron and it did not disappoint!! We went on a Friday night and it was busy (with take out orders). The staff explained there might be longer waits for some of the dishes and kindly pointed out the ones that will come right out. We only waited 10 min for our order and we had it at 1 of the 2 patio table outside. Pho Dac Biet: The soup base was so good!! It's comfort food for me in may weather. I can only imagine having this warm bowl of noodle in winter times!! Generous size of protein, highly recommend asking for chili oil if you can handle spicy!! Banh hoi Bowls with Grilled Beef Sirlion: again generous portion of meat, it was so flavorful. Love that the noodles were rolled up and easier to enjoy. Overall high quality food and great customer service, we will definitely come back. They recently adjusted the price and plus tax is around $17 per dish, but that's inflation for you!! read more

Quick update on their boba--I've bought from here a handful of times since my review & their boba has been consistently really good! It's perfectly cooked, chewy, and sweet. Definitely a 5/5 now. Which says A LOT considering this isn't even a boba shop. I wish they'd add an option for extra boba! That'd be cool, especially for avid boba-drinkers like me. If I'm not eating a full meal, I'm just buying one of their boba drinks. There's honestly no where else near the Burlington area that I'd rather get my boba drinks from. They also added a new mango drink, which is really good. If you've ever been at this Filipino restaurant called Goldilocks & tried their mangolicious cake--that's kinda what this drink reminds me of. Like a bad food hall at an airport with bland food, dreadful service and shockingly high prices. You order at the kiosk expensive ($17-20 base price for a bowl of pho, $10 for a pair of spring rolls, for example) standards, then wait and wait for your name to be called. Staff is overwhelmed and took 20+ minutes to bring what ordinarily takes 5-10 mins max. My pho toppings were all clumped together so raw in the center, but when pulled apart they cooked well enough, but were tough, spongy and bland. Noodles were a dense sticky mass underneath. You have to pull veg toppings out of cardboard containers. You have to unwrap the spring rolls from Saran Wrap. They had zero flavor, and the sauce helped little. Then you have to clear your table (without trays, so takes several trips) and the garbage can is overflowing. Update: I wrote the above before speaking to the manager and receiving a comp for bill and so I am back to update my note to acknowledge this. It took three tries to get her to come to the table, but our server did get her at the end. At first she defended the slow service on the grounds that they are busy and that food comes at different times for different orders, etc., but she backed down when informed that her staff had mistakenly prepared my order for takeout and left us languishing. She promised us a 50% comp, but what we got was about 35%. Plus a snippy note which you can read below that accuses me of lying about the service delay (the time stamp on the receipt showed clearly that we did wait 30 minutes for our pho) and wishing me an inauspicious Lunar New Year. I really wanted to enjoy our meal at Viet Citron fully giving how well received this place has been. Unfortunately I thought the food was simply not up to my expectations during our visit here. However their impeccable service definitely did not go unnoticed. From when I called to ask if I could dine in they actually asked if wanted to order ahead of time which was quite considerate. The staff were all very friendly and explained to us the menu in quite good detail. The pho however I thought was really lacking in flavor, it was one of the few times I had to add hoisin sauce almost immediately. On the positive side I thought they were bit generous with the meat but honestly I thought the pho overall was rather bland. The roast pork was quite better but is a bit salty on its own of course. I think if I do get a chance to visit again should definitely go for their banh mi line ups as it seems to be their more popular choices. read more

I have been getting the crispy pork banh mi for a few years now. They used to serve it wrapped in paper with a rubber band around, in a bag, then they started cutting it half and packaging in a box, and now they completely forgo the paper. I hate to say this but it used to be so much better. $18 for a bahn mi, I really expect a good sandwich. The quality has been so inconsistent recently that I might stop getting it regularly. I feel like it used to contain much more meat. Recently, I've gotten sandwiches that have mostly fat instead of meat, the crispy skin on the pork seems to be thinner and less crispy than before, sometimes there isn't enough sauce so the banh mi is dry and bland. I've been wanting to try viet citron for a long time and they just started taking reservations for dine-in at non-peak times. In terms of covid precautions, everyone is properly wearing masks and there are lots of sanitizing equipments. There's only ONE table available for indoors so I felt so safe dining in. For food, I got the pho ga and the banh min with sirloin. This place is definitely more pricey than other Vietnamese restaurants. HOWEVER, the quality and the taste make it extremely worth it. The banh mi is LOADED with delicious meat, the bread had the perfect texture. It wasn't tooo crunchy (other places have bread too hard that scratch the top of my mouth) nor too soft. It was absolutely delicious. The sauce wasn't too heavy or overwhelming. The meat was tender and sweet and not greasy at all. I highly recommend the sirloin! The Pho Ga was also delicious! It had a nice light broth with lots of tender and lean chicken pieces. The sauce to dip the chicken provided a unique experience as well. The portions were also fantastic. The service was also phenomenal. The owner would check in on us and give us tips on how to fully enjoy the food. When I made the reservation, the owner also told me how to place orders in advance so that the food can come out as soon as I arrived. Overpriced, non-traditional bahn mi with awkward proportions. Would not purchase again. For my taste, the chicken bahn mi had waaay too many pickled radish/carrots that left each bite soggy and too vegetal-forward. There was barely any cilantro and the jalapeno and cucumbers were massive hunks (quarters!) that were out of proportion to the rest of the sandwich. Finally, the garlic soy reduction was much too salty and overpowered the chicken. I much prefer hoisin and/or Sriarcha and/or fish sauce. read more

I organized an outdoor poolside luncheon for my friends and decided nothing but the best food would do, so I emailed Tran, the owner of Viet Citron, a few days before the event, and we worked on a custom order together. I ordered almost everything on the menu. You can't go wrong with anything since it is all so delicious. Here is a list of the main items I ordered: Citrus Arugula Salad, Summer rolls, Mama Tran's Cha Gio, Viet Grilled Corn, Lemongrass Sirloin, Grilled Garlic Tiger Prawn Shrimp, Big A Chicken, Salt Roasted Crispy Pork Belly, and Chili Lemongrass Pork Ribs. I paid for the order over the phone ahead of time and picked up the food at the agreed-upon date and time. Everything was hot and ready when I got there. I could tell how hard Tran and her staff worked on the order. She artfully designed a wonderful platter for all the protein, along with carefully organizing and packaging up all the other goodies for the safe car ride home. Once my friends arrived, it was a nonstop feast. Everyone loved the food and went up for seconds, and one person even dove back in for a third helping. The few leftovers remaining did not last long. They became everyone's dinner that night. If you are planning a summer indoor or outdoor party and want to delight your friends with some of the yummiest food around, do what I did. Really disappointing. :( The pho was so oily. Every bite resulted in oil on our lips. We had the pho tai if that matters. You can't serve yourself sauce and they give you a small amount. I am not sure if it's refillable. We ordered 2 xl phos and it was just a lot of soup. This was to share with our 5 and 3 year old. They didn't need to have their own pho soups yet, since they are little. We also ordered the kids chicken for my other son. The kids chicken was good though and the Thai iced tea was too. The decoration is nice. Like a fancy pho place, but overall I wouldn't go back here for the pho. Maybe another dish. Taking price into consideration, it just wasn't a great experience. read more

Arrived when it opened at 11am so had to wait about 25 minutes for our order which was brought to our car. $75 before tip is pricey but the flavor on each item was excellent. Had: Sirloin Steak Bahn Mai, 2 orders of summer rolls with peanut sauce, a naked (boneless,skinless chicken) pho ga soup with a nice pepper side sauce and a lemongrass chicken bahn mi. The Matcha tea and Limeade were excellent. The limeade would make a great margarita base. My only disappointment is with the chicken used in the soup. The chicken pho! It is unlike any other chicken pho I have ever had. I got the true viet one, the texture of the chicken is like the fresh ones I had in Asia, I asked the owner about it, turns out it is organic free range chicken, it was so fresh, and the amount of chicken they gave me was crazy. Soup, the flavor is intense and insanely flavorful, they also included a lemongrass sauce to add to the pho, so so so so good. This is the most authentic delicious pho I have ever had, I felt like I was eating it in Vietnam. Too bad it is not on the menu all the time. Oh and you must try the avocado mint bobba smoothie. We stubbled upon this place while running errands. The food is very fresh and well prepared. The ambiance for a counter service place is quite pleasant, including the laid back music and the staff were very friendly. They have a kids menu but our toddler preferred all of our food, including the pho, bhan mi, and rice bowl. He even ate his veggies! Thr only downside is that it is crazy expensive. We ordered Summer rolls, Pork Belly Banh Mi, and the Curry Chicken rice bowl. The summer rolls were standard -- nothing too outstanding. The chicken in the Curry Chicken rice bowl was charred to perfection and was just so tender. There was only a hint of curry flavor which was disappointing as this was labeled as a curry chicken rice bowl but we still enjoyed this dish. Our favorite was the Pork Belly Banh Mi! I was initially put off by the price of it; $12 for a Banh Mi? No way! But we ended up giving a try and was so pleased with our decision. I love Viet Citron. You can't go wrong with any dish but I absolutely recommend the crispy pork belly and weekly specials including the pho ga (chicken pho), bun bo hue, bo kho (beef stew), and short ribs pho. The owner and staff are very friendly. The food might take awhile to be ready but it's for the reason it is made to order - piping hot, fresh, and so flavorful. You can order online and get an estimated pick up time to avoid waiting. Food packaging is great and cute. I also recommend trying their sauces - I always have a container of one of them in my fridge. I get some people saying it might be expensive compared to other Vietnamese food but I always felt like Asian food has been undervalued in the US and this establishment is so deserving. Best Vietnamese food I've had in the Boston area! Pho is super flavorful and food quality of everything else I've had is superb. My favorite is the pork ribs plate but I've also had the sandwiches, pho. Sadly I have yet to been able to get there when they have specials like chicken pho, banh xeo though. Prices are a little higher compared to some other Vietnamese restaurants but you really are paying for quality like spices, cook times etc. You can tell the difference in their broth. Other places are bland and just have salt or literally deep fry their "grilled" meat. Over here you get the real deal! This is my go-to dinner place after grocery shopping at the H mart nearby. Pho is delicious. The soup base is well made. I haven't tried any of their sandwiches yet (every time I come here I crave a noodle soup) but they look super legit. Most of their boba drinks are actually smoothies (so different texture from the typical bubble tea) unless you ask them to put boba in Thai tea (which is what I do). Service is . BRUTALLY expensive for what you get. $70 for two banh mi sandwiches, two spring rolls, one egg roll and two Thai teas. Meat in the sandwiches is room temperature, the sandwich was okay. By far the most expensive banh mi I've ever had, and definitely not particularly good. Spring rolls were lackluster. Egg roll was okay. Thai teas were a little strange, but okay. We didn't get them until we had almost finished our meal, for no apparent reason. Apparently the very friendly guy at the register can't make them, and the lady that makes them was elsewhere. Since the owner has decided to call me a Yelp bully, I'll add a little bit of context. I travel the country, and am fortunate enough to have eaten at hundreds of wonderful family owned restaurants, and I generally don't leave reviews if my experience is similar to those of the majority of reviewers. In the event that I do leave a review, it's due to an exceptional experience. In this case, the owner of this restaurant takes every criticism personally and begins name-calling, instead of considering that someone may have valid insight as to why their food, and pricing are terrible. To go so far as to imply that I don't know how to eat my room-temperature sandwich, or drink my terrible Thai tea shows how petty the person that runs this travesty of a restaurant is. From San Francisco to New York, this place had the most expensive and worst Vietnamese food I've ever had. The terrible attitude of the owner should tell anyone looking at spending their hard earned money here everything that they need to know about what a joke this place is.
