Shaking Beef with Rice and Soup
    Steven T.

The last time I went here was before Covid and I enjoyed their banh mi. Came back here to try their shaking beef with rice - a cherished and traditional Vietnamese dish (there's more to Vietnamese food than just pho!) Located in downtime Monrovia with street parking available. If packed, public parking is available down the street and this place is with walking distance . Came here a bit after 12:30 and there was no one so I had the whole restaurant to myself. Waiter was tentative. I ordered the shaking beef with rice and a side of soup thinking it didn't come with but the waiter came back and told me it did so I saved some money there! The dish is good. Beef is tender and has good flavor. It comes with a fried egg and some veggies and pickled veggies on the side so it pairs great. There is a sauce that came with it that I didn't feel like it was needed but can be used on your rice. The broth that came with is probably the same they used for their pho. It's good but wish it was a bit hotter. Overall, a good Vietnamese spot to try with reasonable prices with this market. They also have vermicelli and dishes to try. There is another Vietnamese spot across the street so I'm sure there's competition!

When I go to places to come and eat with my dad, always good. The service is amazing The Pho always hits the spot and I love the music there. It's always the best. Love to come here and eat my friends and family.

Was feeling under the weather and in a mood for soup. My friend suggested pho. We found this place on line. The place is a little and kinda of outdated. The pho was ok, needed a little more flavor. Now, like I mentioned I was sick so not sure if my taste buds were off. Definitely will come back to try other items in the menu.

Haven't had many short rib pho's so I can't compare to other spots but it was really good. The beef rib was amazing. Broth was light but flavorful. The BBQ Pork spring rolls were amazing.

Was craving Vietnamese food and wanted a quick meal. The restaurant only has two tables occupied when we got there. I had wanted the bahn mi and asked if they put pate in it but they don't so that's an automatic no thanks for me. We ordered the special pho, reg pho with all the fixings and goi cuon. Overall It was average. We felt the broth was watered down and wasn't very flavorful. I usually like to drink the broth with my noodles but this broth didn't have enough flavor to entice me to drink it. The goi cuon you can't mess up. This is a one and done for me.

This place is a regular spot for my family and always good. Today I veered from my regular dishes and tried something different which was the grilled shrimp banh mi. It was so good, but so spicy so be ware of the jalapeños. But the shrimp was great. My husband had one of the regular meat dishes my kids always get and he said it was very flavorful. The service is always great here!

I've been here twice and got their best seller Viet Phomula Superbowl Pho. It costs $17.00. Expensive you say? I thought so too, until I ordered it. It's worth every penny of it. It's the largest, most packed bowl of pho I've had. It comes with beef short rib, brisket, rare beef, beef ball, tendon, tripe and a lot of noodles. Will be back again! Customer service 5/5 Cleanliness 5/5 Food 5/5

    Thai tea 10/10

The food was delicious! Definitely going back! The service was fantastic & it's so cute in there! The only issue was we went on a hot day & thru had their doors open which let in flies which was annoying to smack them away lol

Chicken pho almost broke my tooth with whole bone

    Are they pet friendly?

    Yes, they are

How does this place compare to Saigon across the street re: quality / cost?

I’ve been to Saigon once. It’s not as flavorful, doesn’t have enough of the ingredients that comes in it and the portion size is small. Viet phomula is always consistent and delicious

Been looking for a local beef rib pho, but why does the beef rib look so dark in the pics?

    Photoshop???

Are there vegan options on the menu?

Yes, ive ordered the vegetables pho and it comes in a vegetable broth not beef or chicken.

Okay so I'll be the first to admit -- this place has been sitting right under my nose for who knows…read morehow long and somehow I never made it in. Honestly? Embarrassing. Moving on. So yeah, it's another Vietnamese spot in Rosemead. And before you say anything -- yes, it's a pho review. Again. Look, I don't make the rules, I just eat the soup. This place does something a little different though. Their thing is the earth stone bowl -- basically a heated stone bowl that keeps your broth stupid hot while all your toppings come on the side in separate little dishes. Cool concept, very extra, I respect the commitment. But here's the thing -- it was hot outside. Like uncomfortably, aggressively, why-am-I-outside hot. So sweating over a volcanic bowl of soup wasn't exactly on my agenda. I went with the regular bowl, picked two types of beef and tendon, and called it a day. First sip of the broth and I genuinely had to put the spoon down for a second. Not in a dramatic way -- just in a "okay, this is actually really good" kind of way. It holds up against every other spot I've been to, no question. But what got me was the flavor -- there's something subtle going on in there that's hard to put your finger on but impossible to ignore. The kind of broth that just works and doesn't need to explain itself. The toppings were solid, but the tendon was lowkey the highlight. Soft, chewy, not rubbery -- exactly what you want. Some places fumble the tendon. These guys didn't. Iced tea on the side, Saturday afternoon, nothing else going on -- honestly doesn't get much better than that. Should've come here sooner. My loss.

A coworker who loves this place recommended it - otherwise, I would have never known about it…read morebecause when I think Vietnamese food, Little Saigon (Westminster) automatically comes to mind. Not that this place is any closer but now I know of it in case I'm around and craving it. Starting with parking - I guess there's a lot behind but I parked on the residential side street. It was free and I didn't see any restrictions (signs). There's street parking on the main drag but I'm not a fan of trying to park or pull out when cars are doing freeway speeds on surface streets. Walked in and immediately seated. Glad I got there when I did because shortly after I was seated, the crowd hit and diners were standing waiting for a seat. I got there before the lunch crowd. It's my first time and it was on a Sunday so I can't tell you what their peak times are. Call and ask or chat with a regular. Service was find. When needed, I waved someone down. Typical service I expect from a Vietnamese restaurant. As for the food, I ordered too much. I ended up taking a bunch home, mostly the rolls. I don't like soup to go. Noodles would have gotten too soggy ... But I enjoyed it to the point I know I'll go back. The broth hit me on the first sip. It felt like a punch of flavor that woke up my taste buds in a really good way. I took several sips before putting my Pho together to start eating. At other places, I'm used to getting a portion of how many rolls were served here. I ended up eating half of each, taking the rest home. I like that they were balanced with ingredients - I wasn't looking whether something was missing or not. I could tell with each bite. I really enjoyed this place and I only wish it was closer.

We tried a little bit of everything and this place makes me appreciate the versatility of Vietnamese cuisine. Today I got the lemongrass chicken vermicelli bowl and my partner the banh mi. They also have good banh xeo, bun bo hue, nem rolls, and much more. We are usually creatures of comfort but have branched out to try new things here!! The rib itself is 4/10, if 5/10 meant acceptable. I ONLY recommend this spot if you're on your lunch break and gotta stay in the area for work. Otherwise, you should make the drive to eat better.
