I know we are in a bad situation right now and I am trying to support local business. But tonight I ordered dinner from Viet Phomula in old Town. They are really not taking care of their customers and being very cheap on portion sizes than before. (I know because I order from them often before covid) I ordered through door dash. At first I though the Doordash deliver person drank my drink . But then I called viet phomula. And they confirmed they only put 2/3 cup full in a drink i paid almost 5.50 for since they charge higher prices on the app. I told them i am not happy and they do not even try to offer a solution to resolve my concern. So I told them I will write a review and they just hung up on me. I am very disappointed in this business and will not eat there again for sure. I have been a long time customer for some time now ordering often from them. But sadly they lost a customer today. It came with a good amount of meat and soup. The only problem was I ordered the special pho but was given the rare beef. This review is for the grilled beef salad - the beef was really dry and quite bland. I don't know what the dressing that came with the salad was, but it appeared extremely greasy. I dipped a piece of meat in a little bit of the dressing to test it out, and it didn't add anything better to the overall taste, so I didn't bother trying it on the rest of my salad. Everything else about the salad was standard - came with cucumbers, tomatoes, romaine lettuce and red onions. Unfortunately, this was a very underwhelming and unsatisfying meal. It really lacked the flavor, charred smokiness, chili, lemongrass, daikon/carrots I was expecting in a traditionally Vietnamese grilled beef dish. We got seated right away and the waiter gave us the menu, immediately we knew what to order already because we were mainly here for the beef bone pho. I honestly don't know where all these 4-5 stars reviews comes from, maybe we went on their bad day or something but we had the worst food experience of all times. Beef bone pho - soup very bland almost no flavor, beef bone hella chewy and tough, noodle was just mehhhh overall not even worth the money we paid for tbh. Vermicelli bowl - mahhhhhgowddd I swear I sound mean criticizing them but i'm not trying to be I'm just being honest with my review the noodles were hella old, nasty and hard it tasted like 3 days old vermicelli noodle that you left inside the fridge. I have tried this place multiple times and there is always something wrong with my order. This last time I ordered was terrible and the last straw. When I got there the gentleman sitting in the front didn't even know about my order, so he had to look it up, he did not apologize, he was in fact mad at me . The lady working that night was friendly enough, but pretty quiet. She was also playing with her son a lot so she took a long time to actually take our orders. This place is pretty good, with their large portions. I ordered the Super bowl, which has 2 big beef ribs with meat that falls off the bone. It comes with plenty of meat as well. I tried the sampler appetizer platter as well as the pork spring rolls all of which were good. The woman helping us was so nice and very informative. She kind of treated us like her kids, explaining pho and what sauces to put, and telling us to mix the hoisin and sriracha with lime and dip our meat into it. Even though we're VERY seasoned pho eaters, I let her do her spiel because it came out of love and she was just so sweet. Gave us extra peanut sauce too! This is a local, polite pho place nestled in the busy streets of Monrovia. I came here on Memorial Day (Monday 1 PM) and we got seated immediately outside with our pet. They had a good amount of seating available! There's an ample amount of street parking and parking lots, but because of the dense amount of businesses, parking can be variable. I got the large special pho and it was ok. The flavors felt a little under-flavored and underdeveloped and the meat was a little tough. One of my favorite meats, tendon, had a weird yellow color and it was very chewy. I feel most pho places I've been to have had their tendons less juicy and clear. The noodles are fine, but most of the meat was a little tough. Bae got the large oxtail pho and thought it was ok. The flavors also felt underdeveloped and the meat didn't look very tender. I get the feeling the soup didn't have enough time to develop. The service here is extremely pleasant. They even brought out some bones for our dog! They're very attentive and helped bring out all the condiments and tools to our outside table. I loved their kind service; so I really wish I could give a higher rating! I would give them a second chance because I really loved their attitude and want to support my local business. I ordered the "Super Bowl" pho. Only after the whole thing I found a half-chewed shrimp tail hid in the broth. So it's either they put shrimp in their pho broth, which is very much not authentic. Or it is what I suspecting that they got food scrap in my food. After researching, it is common practice to reboil food scraps into the broth repeatedly overtime to make good pho broth. However, I would not imagine it would be very much sanitary nor safe for a restaurant to do so. I assumed there won't be any shrimp tails (not to mentioned half-chewed). Since I have a slight food intolerance towards shellfish, and I ordered this over the phone and picked the order up myself, I started to call them to confirm (or to confront?) whether it is food scrap or ingredient. 1 star for extra shady and lying. Food is ok but not great, I've eaten there a few times even though it's rather dirty inside and especially the unkept restroom. Ordered delivery and had an awful experience. The order was missing 3 items plus they randomly gave me an extra ox tail. I called out of principal because I just wanted the refund for the stuff they forgot. I spent 25 mins on the phone, first with the manager guy that first claimed they couldn't have messed up the order, then he passed me off to the cook who claimed he made all the food correctly. Then to a lady who claimed she put all the stuff in the bag and it was the delivery person (which I helped her get the stuff out of her car, there wasn't a missing bag). When I explained if she packaged everything correctly, why did I get an extra ox tail she then handed me back to the manager after sitting the phone down and letting me hold for a long time. It was a frustrating mess. The manager guy finally took the phone and claimed he would send a refund. I didn't believe him because he didn't calculate how much the missing food total was so I said I could check my online account so just refund it right now but then he said he couldn't, and I'd have to come in personally in a few days. Continued shadiness and finally he said he'd give me a refund but as he was hanging up he told me not to call back for a few weeks because sometimes the banks are slow. T-totally shady and so frustrating. All this time later, obviously no refund or I wouldn't spend time warning other people about this place.
