Went here with my family on a quiet Sunday afternoon. In total there was six of us and three other customers in the restaurant. The two waitresses avoided people waiting for service by not making any eye contact...so the only thing to do was wait. When one of them came to the table to check up on us, she was very rude and impatient, she just walking away quickly before anyone could answer. Food had a lot of msg...you can even see it around your food! Pho was ok. Nothing special. Portions are small, bowls are large. Pad thai was good but very dry, but the thai tea is was surprisingly authentic and din't use cheap powdered dairy creamer or powdered thai tea! It was actually amazing, fresh thai tea. Wouldn't come here again, even though it is one of the few asian restaurants around this area. read more

Shame on me for not reading the review before I sat down at the table and ordered! It would have saved me some money. I ordered the Pho Special soup with brisket, meatballs and beef. It was 80% flavorless. And I had the most gelatinous jelly meat I have ever seen in my life in the bowl YUCK! Was I eating a "jellyfish"??? I got the red curry to go for my family. It was excellent except take the darn tails off the shrimp!! Really??? You are eating and getting stabbed in your mouth at the same time. It was a small portion for $10. My family has visited here before and this is their second time, however my first! (We were on vacation.) After a busy day shopping during Black Friday we came here to eat dinner. The place was small but gave such a friendly vibe! Don't let the interior design scare you from trying the food. From what I was told this restaurant was family owned and 2 of the waitresses were out on vacation leaving only a couple people to work. Even though it was understaffed and there was one waiter the whole time (others were cooking), the service and food were great. He did a GREAT job honestly, being able to handle more than 5 tables and making sure everyone had been greeted and were satisfied with their food. If you had any questions about the menu, he was very knowledgeable and helpful. Now on to the food! For appetizers we ordered fried calamari, fried chicken wings, and the summer roll (I'm a sucker for all 3.) All 3 were fantastic! The calamari was crunchy, tasty, and the portion was large considering the price was around $9, it fed around 4 people. Much better than at some other places I've had, where I've had to pay $10+ for fried calamari. For the fried chicken wings, when we got them they were piping hot. The wings were crunchy, not dry, and flavorful. The summer rolls, only 2 for $3, and were filled with yummy veggies. Also the peanut sauce that comes with it are a delicious add to the rolls. My main course was the Bird's Nest and I chose shrimp as my meat. It consisted of some mushrooms, broccoli, and green beans with the Chef's gravy poured over fried noodles. It was amazing, the shrimp was tasty and the vegetables were cooked well. The Chef's gravy wasn't thick and was definitely an essential piece to the meal. The portion was pretty big and sadly I could not finish the whole thing due to all the appetizers. However my whole family left full and satisfied. With decent prices, good portions and friendly service I give this restaurant 5 stars! Again, don't let the interior of the place and the location disappoint you, it's about the food anyways! "Cubes of beef" dish ( I forget the name) is spectacular. Nicely spiced--- but not spicy hot. It's a "must get" item! Spring rolls were just good, but the winter rolls were great. This is a neat Family run restaurant that's a bit nicer and larger than some of the smaller restaurants on Colonial near Bumby; if your tastes are toward the less spiced foods, I think you'll like this modern, clean restaurant. read more

Trapped at Universal, this was a Grubhub order. We got the last order before online ordering ended at 8:15pm. The food, that had flavor, tasted "off" and we all ended up sick; Don't know what in the order caused it. I will say that the portions were decent sized, but was either flavorless or awful. Excellent Thai and Vietnamese and great fast service. We had the shrimp and pork summer rolls, the pad Thai with Shrimp, the flank and brisket pho and the grilled pork with fried egg. We also finished with the mango sticky rice. Everything was excellent. The pho broth was delicious. The summer rolls were freshly rolled and very flavorful and the grilled pork had excellent flavor. I've driven past this place hundreds of times, and never really really considered going here. But then one day I got the craving for pho that was too ridiculous to ignore. So, a buddy and I went there for lunch, deciding to give it a shot. Most of the Vietnamese places that serve pho are on the opposite side of town from where I work, so that wasn't going to cut it. I was greeted by some of the friendliest staff I have ever met in a restaurant. I actually felt very welcomed for a change. First thing I ordered was an iced Thai coffee. I haven't had a decent cup in ages, and this was no exception. It was quite delicious. I decided to try out the pho with chicken, and decided to try a large order. My friend got the steak and meatballs. I was shocked when our food came out, but it was a good shock. A mammoth bowl of deliciousness lay before me. For a modest price, I received enough pho to satisfy me, and I had enough to take home for dinner. The amount of chicken I received was very generous, along with the noodles. I couldn't have been happier. My only gripe is that they won't let me move in, otherwise I'd be in heaven. Definitely will be frequenting this little slice of heaven more often. read more

My husband ordered the Thai Chicken Fried Rice and I ordered the Pho Special. Food was absolutely delicious, fresh, and worth the money. The servers were friendly and polite. Went out of the way to come here due to fellow yelpers review and was not disappointed i was craving pho and this was the close one to me 30mins away. I ordered pho and the broth was spot on not to oily and the fresh spring roll was not bad as well. Yes there customer service is on point as well. Some of the best restuarants I have found, are hidden in plaza's or strips. Sometimes you have to go outside of your comfort zones & try something new, you may surprise yourself and find a new favorite place! Anytime I move into a new area, my goal is to find a new favorite for each cuisine. Living near the FLA Mall, and International Drive gives you a TON of places to choose from, you just have to do a little research. Viet Thai is one of these great finds. It is right off of OBT and Sandlake in the plaza behind Walgreens on Sandlake. Inside it is a small place with a few tables, they also offer take out and has delivery through Doorstop Delivery. The staff is and customer service is great. They offer a good selection of various Thai and Vietnamese dishes. They are also very resonable priced compared to other places around town and the portions are very generous. The flavor of the food is good, but could use a little more flavor. Its like when you cook and it tastes great, but if you added a pince of salt, it would be amazing! The first time I ate here I had the Tom Ka Chicken Soup. It was ok, but if it would have had just a touch more flavor & seasoning it would have been better. I also had their Summer Rolls with Shrimp, these were very good and their peanut dipping sauce is delicious. They are very refreshing and you get 2 per order. The last thing I tried was the Pad Thai. I agree with other reviews that it was kind of dry, but was very good and had a lot of flavors. The next time I will ask for extra sauce, it was just that good. I went tonight and I had to get the summer rolls with shrimp again. Its something about that sticky rice paper wrapped around lettuce, noodles, cilantro, & shrimp. Knowing you get to eat some of that yummmy peanut butter dipping sauce makes it that much better. I tried the Pad Kee-Mao or as it is better known as the "Drunken Noodle". I decided to try this after seeing reviews and glad I did, it was very good. This time I ordered it with extra sause, and it was better then when I had the Pad Thai, definately not dry this time. Very average (and overpriced) Thai food. I ordered the Chicken Panang Curry which is a staple item in every Thai restaurant and probably one of my all time favorite dishes. Unfortunately I was left a bit unsatisfied with the serving at Viet Thai Cafe. First, the chicken was a bit dry which is an automatic bad sign. Second, the veggies were HUGE. The onion pieces were so big and it was annoying trying to cut through them while trying to eat. Lastly, the rice that it came with was a bit dry so I could tell it was either sitting out for too long or overcooked. Oh, and it was $10! Waaaay too much for what I got. Ordered a papaya salad, fresh roll, and pho. The papaya was ordered hot 4/5. It was spicy and perfect. Pungent and sour and all that good stuff. I'm happy it wasn't Viet style or Americanized. It was the crab paste garlic chili strong version. The fresh roll? Dinky and lacked enthusiasm in its preparation. Tasted okay, but coulda been the peanut sauce making up for it. Wouldn't order it again. The pho? Ordered a large dac Biet. It was $10.50, and I can say that of all the spots I've tried in FL for $10, this place got the biggest bowl. It's big. BUT if you can't back that big bowl up with .......... the broth. Then it don't matter. Coulda been an off day, but the broth doesn't even taste Vietnamese. Got no hints of star anise nor cinnamon. It was watered down, had to throw so much salt and ask for fish sauce to make it okay for me to eat. They might excel in their Thai food, but not Viet. Definitely hesitant to try again. read more

I have been here a couple times. The pho was a big portion. I ordered the regular size, as opposed to large, but the server asked if we were sharing (my group of 4 girls) and I think he gave me large for the regular price. The servers are nice and although they seem to work hard, they are still a bit slow even when it is not packed. The decor is cute, but some of the furniture looks a little run down. They are closed in the early afternoon from 3-5, which makes it hard to get a late lunch/early dinner without having to time it right. read more

It was an early dinner Monday for me and I was excited to be in this part of the town. As I often do not get the chance to dine over here. Was in the mood for Thai (one of my fav cuisines) and this place had great reviews. Simply put, the reviews were spot on. The food was fantastic! I order the yellow curry with chicken, medium spiced. The consistency of the curry was perfect. Loaded with vegetables, which I was a little surprised. I order yellow curry often and I don't think I've ever seen Green peppers or green beans. I ended up leaving the restaurant after waiting 5 min to be seated and then 20 min at the table with no interaction as I watched others continued to be seated. Many tables seemed frustrated at the service and how long they waited. Love the food here! Every dish I have tried has been delicious! The noodles are my favorite and the Pho come hot and streaming! Service is hit or miss though, depending on who you get, I think some of the not so good service is due to a language barrier. No one has ever been rude, just not chatty or very friendly. I recommend for the American pallet the chicken Pho, it's flavorful (not spicy) broth is warming to the soul and the noodles are cooked just right. I also love the noodle bowls (bun) room temp noodles with lettuce, sprouts, carrots with grilled meats are healthy and taste terrific. I'm not exaggerating when I say it is the worst Thai food I've ever ate. Everything was bland to the point I felt ingredients were left out. We order a couple of items without onions, but they decide to do the opposite and put more, smh! My wife order fried rice with salted fish, not one trace of fish. Great place to get Pho! They make it all out of scratch and the beef slices are tender and thick, not those thin slices that become tough. I'm glad they keep the shoyu out on the tables too. Their Thai Tea and Milk Coffee is amazing. They also make it fresh. I hate when places serve Thai Tea and it's from a can. I recommend this restaurant for their Pho and Thai Tea. I've been coming to Viet Thai for years. I used to go to school right around the corner and order maybe once a week for about three years. For a year after school I wasn't in the area and didn't order at all. I then got a job about five miles away. My first order back was in 2020 and they knew me from my phone number. I've not been able to order frequently since then because of my work schedule, but I do order when I am able. Today, I sent my order in online and when I went to pick it up, they knew it was from me. This place is a blessing. The food is always good, the staff are amazing and it's just such an incredible experience. My favorite dish is the salted fish rice, but the pho and the noodle dishes are incredible as well! Do yourself a favor and go here! read more

I was feeling a little under the weather and thought Pho would cure me, sure enough it did! Definitely hit the spot. I came during my lunch hour and it was not that busy for being Noon. I ordered the Beef Pho medium rare steak (regular size). Pretty crazy how big the bowl is for the regular size, I can never finish it. I can only imagine how the large is. When ordering the Pho, they always bring out a side dish with like, Brussels sprouts and mint leaves for you to garnish your soup. I like to put a a little bit of the sprouts and squeeze the lime and throw it in there. What makes the Pho complete is putting some of the Hoisin sauce. Lawd! It is so tasty! One of my favourite Thai places so far! Very fast and friendly service. Portion sizes are big enough for two. The tum yum soup was one of my favourites, the perfect mix of spicy and sour. My parents and i went here while hiding out from Irma, being one of the only places opened. The two stars are for the service. Our server handled the whole dining room, which gradually got busy while we were dining, by himself. We ordered a large pork pho, Yum Beef, Thai styled fish cake, and mango and sticky rice. For togo we ordered korean bbq ribs and Grilled pork with rice vermicelli. Originally, we wanted to cancel the togo order because the food was not very good, but they had already made it so we took it anyway. Being Thai and in the restaurant business, we know how the food should taste. The pho was sooooooo bland, like water. We had to add so much hoisin, sriracha and sugar to get some flavor. The yum beef was lowkey almost insulting. No flavor, the beef was chewy, cut super thick, and what's the shredded iceberg doing on the plate? Onions cut super thick, and honestly just didnt look appealing. The fish cakes were pretty good, but i have a feeling those were just frozen, fried and served up with a Mae Ploy sauce. The Mango and sticky rice didnt seem too fresh. Mangoes were good, but the rice was extremely hard. The grilled pork that we took togo was basically all fat and no meat. the korean bbq ribs were sliced way too thick and super chewy. I love Pho and I am very discerning about it. The Tofu Pho here is flavorful without being overly salty which can be an issue with pho. Also the chicken green curry (I asked for Tai Spicy) is hot flavorful and delicious. The rice was fluffy the curry was the right consistency and the veggies and chicken were artfully cooked. I definitely would recommend this restaurant. Be like Nike and just do it. read more
