Delicious little hole in the wall restaurant. I had the opportunity to try their pad lad-na, yellow curry, papaya salad, and tom yum soup. The pad lad-na was good. It came with plenty of chicken and veggies. I believe the brown sauce is oyster sauce and it went well with the noodles. The yellow curry also came with lots of chicken and veggies. We couldn't finish the curry, so we packed it and ate it for breakfast. Best thing ever. The papaya salad came with plenty of papaya, however, it was not spicy. Either way I enjoyed the salad. The tom yum soup was spicy and good as well. Seating is limited and best for smaller groups. Other review commented on the customer service. I thought our waitress was friendly and we were seated immediately. We came around Sunday noontime and the restaurant was about half full. Our food came out quick. What a great place to get some really good Pho! I am always skeptical about places advertising more than one asian cuisine, but this place does have legit Vietnamese and Thai food! I really enjoy eating a little bit of everything and this is a one stop shop for both culinary flavors! My wife always gets the pho and I'll change it up between rice dishes or noodles. AMAZING! This place is truly a hidden gem that you have to visit. I love Vietnamese and Thai food. I have to grudgingly admit that this restaurant is even better than my beloved pho da loi 2 in Atlanta, only because of the variety & complexity of menu options. 1. Service of phenomenal. I have never in my life experienced such great service in a restaurant. This experience will be hard to ever come by again. 2. The food was wonderful. 3. The kitchen is open. The small Viet Thai Cafe is west on Sand Lake Road just as you turn off South OBT. It's a small place with only eight or nine tables, with an open view of the kitchen. I've dined here twice before and ordered from their Thai menu, but it didn't make a lasting impression on me. Yesterday, I decided to order from the small Vietnamese portion of the menu for the first time. I began with an appetizer of Fried Tofu (I'm not sure whether that was Viet or Thai) accompanied by a sweet and sour sauce and a peanut sauce (sounds Thai). The sweet and sour sauce worked, but the peanut sauce didn't do so much. I moved on to a Vietnamese Clear and Egg Noodle soup with shrimp, scallops and squid with the usual Vietnamese "fixings" (sprouts, lime, jalapeno slices, mint). The soup was loaded with cilantro and sliced green onions, but the broth was slightly watered-down. A good dose of sriracha helped give the soup more flavor. The restaurant was very crowded; in fact I got the last available table. It appeared that all of the clientele were Caucasian -- maybe that's due to the makeup of the neighborhood. But the atmosphere didn't seem as authentic as dining in the Mills-50 district. The Asian wait staff was Americanized and the music being played was American (Marvin Gaye, for example). I saw on the menu that Viet Thai also features Korean BBQ. Maybe they have stretched themselves too thin. read more

My family, in the throes of an ill-advised Disney vacation some three days before Christmas, spied Viet Thai Cafe on our way to our hotel, and it somehow stuck with us (probably because of the lackluster offerings from the Disney parks--World Showcase, notwithstanding). Since Orlando was amidst 50-60-some degree weather, we decided some Pho would really hit the spot after a long day at the Magic Kingdom. I always find myself rather leery of combination places--so often such restaurants offer such a wide variety of plates, that no single item excels, but their ability to cater to every palate in one sitting somehow rises above the mediocrity of everyone's orders. Despite the split attention to both cuisines, I have to say that I was quite happy with the bowl of Pho that I ordered--sizable and flavorful. The man who took our orders (I suspect he was the owner) was friendly and as warm as our soups, accommodating and eager to please. While there was an issue with our order (I gathered from the open kitchen that it was a mix-up with the kitchen staff), he was apologetic and tried to make things right for us. Perhaps I'm more used to the curt attention I've received in Atlanta, but Viet Thai Cafe definitely garners an extra star for that service. read more

My boyfriend loves Pho, even if it's 100 degrees outside, it's his must try in any new place. His first time in Orlando, Florida, meant we were on the hunt for the best Pho Florida had to offer. We Yelp'd the closest and best place near our hotel, and this came up. I was very very disappointed. Their spring rolls were so bad I couldn't even eat it. We both also ordered the beef combo Pho, and we also didn't eat that. The basil, and bean sprouts they brought out were so wilted, and old - it's like they weren't even the slightest bit embarrassed to bring that to our table. As if we would use it??? We left hungry, and down the block to get a massage - where the Viet workers all told us we made a huge mistake going there... better luck next time. In my opinion do NOT go here. read more

We came here to eat because we saw how great the reviews were. Not sure what is best to order here, Vietnamese food, Thai food, Korean or Chinese? They got all mixed of stuff on that menu like they try to do it all. We ordered Pad See Eew, Tom Yum Noodle, Crab Cake, Calmari & Pho. The reason why I'm giving some starts for this rating is the Tom Yum Noodle soup turned out ok. The Pho was below ok but edible. The Pad See Eew, OMG, it was exactly what it was, "Ewwww". It tasted like it was soaked, dried and refried or something. It tasted like they used diluted soy sauce and pan fried it altogether. It actually tasted undercooked. The crab cake was um, pretty crappy, it was completely overlooked and dried out and shriveled up. Calamari came and was a lot but we weren't looking for quantity but quality. Fried a bit too dry and too much. Pho tasted decent, nothing spectacular. Not sure how people got so lucky with good food at this place to give all the positive reviews but we sure didn't at all. There was only one chef there and he even comes out to clean tables and serve u the food sometimes, quite odd to me. And then one waitress and one bus boy, that's it. Overall, didn't enjoy the food quality here at all and won't be back. We paid $100 for 8 ppl total. Inexpensive but I rather pay more for better quality food. read more

Pennang chicken curry mild, ($10) is delicious. Infused with coconut and spices and served with a side of steam jasmin rice. The spring rolls were nice and tasty as well, an order comes with 2, so no sharing. Pho qas good but we all agreed at the table that we hav had better in NYC. However, it was good to find Vietnamese food in Orlando that gave us variety during our week of eating out. Drunken noodles with beef sounds catchy. Never had it before so we figure to give it. I thought the noodles were spot on , very tasty, lots of sauce with a hint o tamarind and not spicy at all. In all we had a delicious meal. Talk about a diamond in the rough!!! Located in a hole in the wall in strip mall, this gem is hands down the best Thai food in Orlando. We started with the Summer Rolls. The peanut sauce they came with was absolute heaven. We kept it after we finished to use on other items! Then we got the Thai Fried Rice with Beef!!! SO GOOD!! This was amazing on its own, but I still put a little bit of the peanut sauce on them. The waiter suggested putting a little of our curry on top, and that was a golden idea! Which leads me to the Green Curry with Beef. My taste buds were out of control, I literally couldn't stop eating it. After I was full, I had two more huge helpings of it. It was a party in my mouth. This might be some of the best curry I've ever had anywhere!! We left this place about an hour and half ago, and I'm still so full, but if someone offered me some more of that curry, I would take it happily. I overheard people ordering this for takeout and it makes me immensely happy to have found a great Thai place close by my house that I can order for takeout. I just visited Orlando this weekend for a short weekend vacation. It was raining and cold and what else is best at that time.... PHO!!!! Since i haven't been to Orlando in over 8 years, i went on Yelp to find a good Pho place. Then I found Viet Thai Cafe.. OMG!!!! For being on vacation and not knowing the area, this place was delicious. My friend that went to lunch with me never had Pho before in his entire life until that day. He was amazed at how good, hot and seasoned the Pho was. We also shared the calamari appetizer, which was cooked to perfection. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They knew exactly what we wanted and were very attentive. I will definitely come back to dine at Viet Thai Cafe the next time I travel to Orlando. :-) read more

First off... HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR NEWBIES TO THAI & VIETNAMESE FOOD! Twice now have I been to the Viet Thai Cafe and, both times, I've left completely satisfied and surprised at how delicious it was. In contrast to the one degrading review about this place, I believe that a fair critique for a food establishment should be based on the FOOD, not just the outside appearance from a friggin' parking lot. Now, I'll admit, it's nothing entirely special. It's the same basic cafe setting that you'd find in any big city, honestly: A few tables and generic steel chairs (which DO NOT FOLD OUT), a few decorations on the walls and a TV over the ordering counter. The food is cooked behind the counter itself, so you get to hear and smell every little bit of goodness in store for you. Though you don't have to order directly from the cashier at all. The owner and cook gladly waits on you, or has one of his other staff do so while he's preparing food. Most of which consist of his family and friends, so overhearing their little conversations can be pretty entertaining at times. Now as far as the food is concerned, you get exactly what you ask for, and in definite abundance. Lovely rice noodle bowls full of sliced grilled chicken and fresh vegetables, with Vietnamese sweet sauce on the side (which you'll be wanting more of, for sure). Minty summer rolls tag-teamed with a rich, thick peanut dipping sauce. Tangy, sweet and spicy curries dressing your choice of meat, veggie or tofu, and plenty of rice to soak up whatever might be left over. Most of their entrees are not priced individually, but by what meat/protein you choose to have and in what style you want it prepared. The most expensive being the seafood (around $10). It's that little affordable convenience everyone can enjoy from the Viet Thai Cafe, and it's their savory, authentic dishes you can rely on. So, in short, don't expect to be wowed by lush decor and sexy atmosphere. Just expect simple satisfaction, in a simple setting, and expect to go back for more! (Not to mention they're right up the road from a Lollicup, a Starbucks and across the street from a Cold Stone Creamery. I got their Pad Thai, and it was really dry. My boyfriend got the Coconut Curry and it was delish! It also saved my Pad Thai as I added some of the curry to my pad thai to add flavor. Tip : Ask for hot sauce before you leave if you ordered takeout. The Proportions are huge. My pad thai could easily feed 2 hungry people. Decently priced. Place looks like your typical strip mall pan-Asian food place. One of those hit-or-miss types that could either serve up really legitimate food, or could cause you to call up your local doctor on the porcelain telephone. Luckily, this place is the former. We started off with the chicken satay, which featured a gratifying hunk of chicken on the stick. It wasn't one of those overcooked, thin, leathery things you might find anywhere else. Here, they serve a seriously large strip of breast meat that retains its juice. The shrimp penang was decent. Obviously not very large shrimp, but on the other hand, at least they weren't tiny little shrimp. The everything was well-cooked and the flavors were balanced nicely. No complaints! read more

I have been coming here since they first opened and business is booming. I really like their bun and pho but for me their best dish is the Yum Beef. The staff treat you like family and readily learn your favorite orders. I wouldn't say they offer the best Viet Thai food in town but they sure do offer some of the best friendliest service around. I have eaten here NUMEROUS TIMES but tonight, this place turned us down 20 minutes before close reason being is that they close at 9. Kitchen was still open, food still being prepared, cooked and served, doors still open and sign clearly stated closing at 9. I've eaten my fair share in hundreds of restaurants all over the world and I know and understand when the kitchen staff has already started to clean and wrap up for the day but when doors open, still accepting the customer who walked in right a second before us and sitting him and turning us away when clearly the restaurant is still operational that to me is beyond LOW. Tell me the kitchen is closed, the chef is cleaning up, staff is gone, sign is closed and I will respect that but if you tell me "we close at 9" and I point out that the sign is still on and stated 9, and kitchen is still operational, AND YOU HAD JUST SAT A CUSTOMER WHO JUST WALKED IN A SECOND BEFORE US, do come back with something better than "but we close at 9". The customer who was just sat even walked out after you turned us down. Sad. This really doesn't help out and say much about trying to open and branch out to the Asian community in Orlando. The one star really is so I can post my review, you don't deserve not one bit of it. This place has lost a customer who has recommended a bunch of people here. Good riddance. read more

I first had Viet Thai Cafe because they were on doorstep delivery and we were being lazy. We ordered to-go again the other day but this time ventured out ourselves to go get it. First off, the lady that took my phone order was so nice! She was helpful, repeated my order and overall just great! When my boyfriend went in to pick up the food he came out saying how nice she was too. Friendly service is a plus and she gets an A+. The food is very good. I am so glad that I now know I can drive 5 minutes down the street for a great big bowl of Pho and not all the way to Colonialtown. The summer roles were huge and a great starter, their peanut sauce is amazing. I've also tried the Pad Kee-Mao aka Drunken Noodles. Delicious blend of veggies, noodles and meat of your choice. And the Singapore Noodles were fantastic as well. A hearty blend of chicken, shrimp, veggies and wonderful rice noodles. If you are near Florida Mall (and even if you're not...doorstep delivery) this place is worth your time. I'll be a regular. Oh almost forgot...the prices are great too! read more

We had 15 (Asian American) people drop in for an early dinner on a Friday night. We got prompt friendly service and had a great time of fellowship. The food was diverse: a mixture of Viet and Thai: hence the name is very appropriate. We all enjoyed the food, but mine was a bit sweet. ALL-n-all, I would go back when I'm near that area. Can you believe it? It was so cold in Orlando and I was not prepared. What is best on a cold, cold day? Pho of course! I ordered "dac biet" with rare beef on the side. Their broth was good and the beef tasted nicely tender. FYI: If you over cook the beef, it will be a little chewy. So order rare beef and extra bow of broth on the side and cook it yourself. The beef will tastes more heavenly. Try it next time you are there. Service was good. The people were nice. They got me what I want and they were tentative. We made some jokes and had a good time. Ambiance: Low key, Asian vibes mix with a pinch of Viet and a pinch of Thai. Try the fry banana ice-cream. It's good. Lastly, they are 5 minutes away from the convention center. My bro said he'd had much better pad thai in a predominate Vietnamese/Thai neighborhood elsewhere, ad although he and I enjoyed our dishes, he said he wouldn't come through again knowing he could get better. The beef Drunken Noodles came with the wrong kind of noodle (it should be a wide egg noodle according to the menu and it came with a thin rice noodle). I ordered it hot and it arrived completely devoid of spice and salt, so it was sweet and bland. Go for the yummy food and return because of the owner's hospitality. What a great find! The pho was delicious. Soup was flavorful and noodles seem to come out of a bottomless bowl. Not complaining, all good. Tried their soups, Tom Yum Shrimp was not too tart and Tom Gai was good, do ask for added spice "heat" to the Tom Gai. The coconut milk made the soup a bit too tamed. Curry is a must here. There are 3 different kinds. Beware that you don't order everything with coconut as the main ingredient. Try different spices and flavors. Now on to the hospitality part. The owner greeted us after our waitress took our drink orders. She then checked on us like 3 more times. Great customer service to say the least. read more

went for take out. The tom yum ghai was very good. The red curry chicken was not spicy at all I guess I should have asked. But j thought curry was some kind of spicy. The place definitely deserves more than 3.5 stars. This place is worth going back to. ... And I did. Got some tom yum again and Singapore noodles, I asked to make them spicy this time, but again not spicy at all. They gave me an additional spicy sauce which was barely a beginner spice. We had Thais ice coffee, Thai fish cakes, summer rolls with the 'to die for' peanut sauce, drunken noodles,and Thais chicken and basil. All of it was outstanding! We especially enjoyed Linda, who was a one woman show handling the front of the house. She was very sweet, efficient, and funny. This is my utmost favorite restaurant! I always have the summer rolls with fish sauce (not peanut sauce because of my severe food allergies), the pho soup, and sticky rice for dessert. Everything is delicious!!! Best of all- the noodles are rice- based so I can have them with no problems (I am highly allergic to everything gluten, unfortunately). My hubby likes to mix it up. He always has something different. He likes everything! The only thing he doesn't care for is, ironically, the pho soup. He feels like it's not filling enough for him because he needs more substance to his foods (he is 6'0" and weighs 325 lbs). We love the fact that it is family- owned and run. Everyone there is super friendly so there is awesome customer service going on (I am big on customer service, by the way).... All in all, I highly recommend this wonderful little cafe! read more

This is best thai restaurant I have ever been.fantastic food at a very reasonable price. I eat almost 2 to 3 times a week. My favorite is drunken noodles , amaaaazing taste. I have tried almost all the chef specials on the menu. They are all very very tasty. The chef adds some secret sauce which makes them yummy. There's an entry called "birds nest" do not miss it, its the best. Very friendly staff. read more
