I wanted to wait until after trying several dishes before reviewing (which is what I normally do), but every time I come here I order their Pho lol. I can't help it. I appreciate them being open until 11pm which enables me to full-fill my late night pho cravings. I honestly have no complaints in regards to that dish. The broth, meats and meatballs all have flavor. If it's not enough for you, of course the hoisin and soy sauces are on your table. The wait staff is friendly and very attentive as well. I said sure, why not treat myself after working this whole weekend. It was a raining Sunday evening. As soon as we walked inside, I saw that the restaurant was busy and short staffed. The gentleman who greeted was was a little rude, then told us to wait outside and said that it would be our turn after two families. After waiting outside for a while, we were seated at a booth. It took a while for us to get menus but I understand, they were short staffed. The menu was overwhelming, but maybe it's good to have many options. The waitress told us she'll be a while but that she would be back. And she meant it, it took a while for her to come back. At least she informed us ahead of time so that was okay. I was debating between the Basil Fried Rice and Mixed Vegetables, and ended up ordering the Mixed Vegetables with Basil Sauce (instead of the Oyster Sauce) and Coconut Shrimp. My friends ordered the Korean BBQ Noodles Bowl, Pho, and spring rolls. We all had water. The spring rolls (2 rolls cut in halves) were really, really, really salty. I had to eat my piece with the lettuce. We wanted to return the dish but they were busy and we didn't want to go through any troubles. The coconut shrimp (6 pieces) appetizer was good. Then, came the entrees. The portions were good, but my dish was not so good in my opinion. The chicken was tough, chewy, and had a weird taste. I ate the vegetables. My friends said the Pho was okay, it wasn't to-die-for, and that the Korean BBQ was good. I had a bite of the beef and thought it was pretty good but really tough to chew. Overall, service was okay but I understand they were short staffed and it was Memorial Day weekend. We read some rave reviews and wanted to check this out. My wife and I were with another couple. We all frequently eat Vietnamese and Thai food. The waitress was extremely friendly with seating us at the table and taking our orders. Unfortunately, friendliness doesn't equal flavor. The other couple and I ordered our food Thai Hot. They ordered Red Curry, Thai Hot. I ordered Drunken Noodles, Thai Hot. The waitress confirmed this when we ordered, and she confirmed it again as she put the plates down. I'm not the best poker player, but I can often see someone's "tell". The way she said Thai Hot, made me worry. When I looked at my Drunken Noodles, they looked like they were boiled in water and plopped down on my plate with no sauce or seasoning. The other couple immediately were also concerned, because their Red Curry was more pink than red. The Drunken Noodles had no flavor at all. There wasn't a hint of any spice, and they were far from Thai Hot. The beef in the noodles was very sparse. The beef also tasted like it was soaked and boiled in Mojo. It was very bizarre. I asked for a spice plate, and they returned with a couple of plastic ramekins containing some extra spice. This did not help. If you like Thai Hot, you may know how much better the food tastes when it's cooked with all the spicy goodness. The Red Curry was tasty but far from Thai Hot. If you like very mild Red Curry, this may be a decent option. But honestly, there's much better in Orlando. And it's a definite pass if you want something with spice and heat. My wife ordered Crispy Duck with basil sauce. It wasn't the worst I've had. The problem was that the crispy side was the bony side. So it wasn't quite as enjoyable for her. I didn't have a problem with the crispiness. But, I did have a problem with the fact that she ordered her food medium, and it was also very bland with no heat at all. They were all very friendly and I wish them success. But honestly, offering Thai Hot and giving me a plate with no heat is very insulting. I don't really get insulted easily. Perhaps insulted isn't the right word. But the way the food made me feel was sad. I left here feeling very sad. A note to the management. Some restaurants get complaints because Thai Hot is too hot. I've noticed many places confirm with people that they want Thai Hot. I don't know if I was judged as not worthy of your heat, but I really did feel insulted. I don't want any freebies, because I will never return. But I do wish you success. Because your staff is quite pleasant. tl;dr: I ordered Thai Hot and received the blandest noodles I'd ever had. I think the identity crisis of being both Vietnamese and Thai really is pronounced in the food. It honestly tasted like a Vietnamese take on Thai food as opposed to being authentically Thai. I always enjoy my time here when I'm in town and feel right at home with some good delicious food. They have a mixed from viet to thai food to fill your needs. We tried this restaurant based on yelp reviews and we loved it. Very spacious and clean, the owner is very friendly and food portions are big and so yummy. I had "Spring rolls with shrimp" for $4.5. It was filled with fresh ingredients and served with peanut sauce. Personally I'm not a big fan of peanut sauce but they has Hoisin sauce and soy sauce on every table the rolls go very well with Hoisin sauce. I also had "Small size meatball pho" for about $9. (10/31/2017) came by for weekday lunch, early. We were one of two larger parties in there towards opening. Service was very friendly and familiar. Of the surrounding pho places nearby, this is the one we referred to as "the divey one." Apparently, they've remodeled recently, and I don't think we can call it that anymore. Got the Large Special Pho ($9, only $1 more than the Medium, c'mon, you know you want it). I like the bits, the Special has round, brisket, tendons, meatballs. I would say the diameter of the large was about 10 inches. Plenty of broth, well, about half broth. Good-sized clump of noodles mounded in the middle, and "garnished" with meat. Not sure you get any more meat or noodles for the Large bowl. Table salad was missing fresh jalapeños, and a little small for the number of bowls we had, we ordered extras. Did appreciate the culantro leaves in the garnish. Others in my party like the broth here better than at other places nearby, I'm ambivalent. There's more subtle spicing in Viet Thai's broth, but I find it still thin, there was some good marrow flavor, though. One of our party had the Penang curry with chicken, which she seemed to enjoy. It was a nice sizeable portion with white rice and likely not too spicy, as she said she's not that into heat. Spring Rolls we're tight and small and densely filled with highly seasoned ground beef, carrots, cellophane noodles, deep fried to a nice dark brown. Would've been perfect on some Bun (which they unfortunately don't offer. Fish cakes were daintily small, like the size of a quarter each, but chewy (in a good way), well-seasoned, piping hot. We searched Yelp when we were looking for a lunch spot in Orlando and landed here. We didn't enjoy the food here as much as other yelpers though. The staff was very friendly and responsive but the food isn't what we are used to in terms of Vietnamese cuisine. The broth for the beef pho isn't as flavorful and deep as other pho places we've tried. The beef also wasn't that good. Something about it was off. However, their portion size is quite generous. The large bowl of pho is really big and is only $9. They give you a good portion of noodles. The rice noodle dish with shrimp came with 2 skewers of shrimp. Grabbed lunch at Viet Thai Cafe on a Thursday afternoon. I ordered the Chicken Pad Thai, which made for a massive meal. Quality Was in the Orlando area and craving Thai food so made my way over to Viet Thai Cafe. Just ordered the Chicken Pad Thai, which was massive and pretty decent tasting. Often places don't present the option of choosing the spiciness level for pad thai and it comes out far too sweet. That was not the case here, I ordered it spicy and the heat was definitely there. However, a little bit more sweetness to combine with the heat would have really made the dish standout. There was also a good deal of chicken in the dish, but some pieces were a bit tough and chewy. Quantity I was shocked when they brought out the huge pile of noodles. It definitely was way more than needed for lunch, and could likely work as two meals. Value It was an excellent value as the massive portions were very reasonably priced. Ambiance Viet Thai Cafe is located in a small strip mall in Orlando. The inside of the shop is very simple and casual with plenty of booths and a few tables. The kitchen area is open and part of the main space. There is not a lot done with the decorations, but there were some Asian ornaments and paintings throughout the restaurant. There was a television in the back corner, but it was not on when we were there and it didn't really seem to be in a spot where many people could watch it. In the background they had a popular radio station playing, lots of advertisements made it a bit annoying. Crowd Even though it was a bit late for lunch the restaurant was surprisingly busy. More than half the tables were taken and I watched several people roll through to grab take out. Service They had a single waitress handling the whole crowd and she was doing a fine job. The food came out shockingly fast, which was perfect since I was starving. It is definitely a place you don't have to worry about wasting your whole lunch hour waiting for food. Loved this place! Don't be fooled by its unassuming appearance. As an Asian person I'm kind of a snob with overly Americanized Asian food, but this place did not disappoint. We ordered calamari, crispy wings and fried tofu for appetizers. They were all delicious and perfectly breaded, just a thin layer. They came super hot right off the pan too. Definitely better than the ones I've tried at numerous other Thai restaurants. We also got papaya salad, which was fresh and the perfect amount of spice. It's a fairly large portion too. For entrees, we got rice bowl noodles with shrimp and chicken, and pad Thai. The noodles were perfect and a great ratio of veggies. Shrimp and chicken had a nice chargrill flavor on them. The pad Thai was the only thing that we didn't find perfectly delicious. It was a bit too saucy and the flavor was a bit off, didn't have the classic pad Thai flavor I'm used to. Unfortunately, I can't go as high as 4 stars with my review as the food was mediocre in my opinion and the service was only so-so. The highlight of the experience was my friend asking if he could BYOB and then running next door to the Walgreens to bring us all beers and mini wines lol. Don't judge, it was NYE and we were in the mood to get the party started. So again, maybe NYE added to the service issue and perhaps they were understaffed? Or not expecting such a crowd on a Wednesday (the place was packed) but it did take a long time to get our drinks, food, check etc. I started with the fried tofu which came out with a sweet chili dipping sauce (not the peanut sauce as the menu stated). The tofu itself was quite good though, and I did try the peanut sauce which came with my friend's summer rolls (he wasn't a fan and found them too full of noodles). For an entree I opted for the red curry - and skipped the rice since they didn't have brown rice and I needed to maintain my skinny-ness for the dress that evening lol. The curry itself was lacking a bit of flavor and I wasn't crazy about how the vegetables were cut up. I did try a few bites of my other friend's duck soup which was well balanced and much tastier. Still amazing! My husband and I frequent this place maybe once every two weeks and some of the waiters know my order now. My husband likes to change it up a lot, but I get the Noodle Bowl with ribs (no bean sprouts) and a side of egg rolls. I also love getting a Thai iced tea. I've taken people from out of town here and they love it. The curry and pho is also delicious. Since my last review, they have done a major renovation and they have a whole new seating area. I'm very thankful this place is right by work for me. I live in Lakeland and there's not much around except for chains. Very thankful I work in Orlando and can eat pretty much anything! Came in at 1 for lunch hour. It wasn't too busy and I was seated right away and asked what I wanted to drink. I normally have people look at me funny when I ask for coke and water, but she was happy to get it for me. Ordered pad Thai medium heat with chicken. Only took 7-10 minutes for my food to come out, piping hot. Had a great flavor, plenty of sauce, not overly greasy and I liked that they use a thinner noodle. I'm from Los Angeles, the mecca for Vietnamese food so one might think it'd be unfair to compare their food to my hometown. Just some friendly recommendations to the owners: -the beef was sliced too thick. Slice is thinner and it makes for a better dish -the noodles are too thick and hard.
