Visited on 10/20/2015 for a business dinner; we wanted to share the beautiful view with our business friend from San Diego. Tuesday evening with moderate patron traffic; patio 3/4 full, indoor dining room 1/3 full. Our server was Angel (male) and I it's been quite some time since I have had to deal with a waiter who holds their guests in such low regard. 1. Seated by host and water served: 5 minute wait for Angel to take our order for drinks after water was served. No utensils at table. 2. Angel takes our drink order and proceeds to disappear for 10-15 minutes. 3. Drinks arrive and appetizer order taken: Angel disappears for another 15-20 minutes, appetizers arrive. 4. We only ate appetizers. At no time did Angel ever ask if we needed anything after food was served despite the fact he walked past our table numerous time. 5. Asked Angel for check...he disappears...again! Waited 10 minutes while we visited and finally flagged down a waitress. Told her our server disappeared and we never got a check. Gave her my credit card and she jokingly replied "I'll be sure to flog him". 6. Angel returns 5 minutes later with check. Hands to our table while never making eye contact. View 202: You've had another negative review about this waiter. Do you review your customers comments and if so why has no corrective action been taken? I ordered a grilled seal head, which was pretty decent, but not great. The skin on it, though, was grilled to crispy perfection and I enjoyed it. My friends got a serving of fish and chips - the batter was way too savory for our liking. The 50/50 fries we had to share were excellent. That said, I'm a sucker for sweet potato fries. All in all, the food alone would have earned the restaurant 3 stars. But the view gave it an additional star. Simply breathtaking! read more

Second time here and not one person came over to help...no one at the reception desk, no one at the bar...so ridiculous

Ate there yesterday evening. We sat outside as it wasn't too hot and we had some shade and the mist to help stay cool. The first thing I noticed was that the table was unstable. It rocked around whenever I moved. This was annoying as my roommate had some fancy drink for her birthday and every time either of us moved it would slosh around the drinks everywhere. Next thing I noticed was the damn flies everywhere. I had to constantly keep them off our drinks and food. Ok, we chose to sit outside, so I can't complain too much about those flies, but they were still annoying. The server was nice and did his job just fine. The food was ok. I ordered a NY strip med-rare. It came out med-well. Another roommate ordered a rib eye med-rare and his was so overcooked he had to send it back. I got the "aged mac and cheese" as one side and it wasn't that great - my roommates were raving about it before we got there, but this batch must have been not as good since no one at the table (5 of us) seemed to enjoy it that much this time. I also had a side caesar salad ($5) which was ok but not great. For a $25 steak, it was tender, but overcooked. I doubt I'll return to view 202. Anyway, it's another case of "good food for Redding" but not so great if you've lived anywhere outside of Redding. (I've lived in New England, NY and FL before moving out here a couple years ago.) Special anniversary dinner, and the setting, service and food made it very special. The Monday evening crowd was light. The day had been over 100 degrees, but we sat on the patio, which was bathed by misters. It overlooks the Sacramento River, and fire smoke turned the setting sun red as it reflected across the water. We both ordered NY Strip steaks, which were prepared exactly how we liked them. I chose garlic mashed potatoes and Mac & Cheese for the two sides that came with my meal. I don't generally care for Mac & Cheese, but the "aged" cheese sold me. It was excellent. The only thing I thought was limiting about the menu was those Side choices. There were about 4 types of potatoes or fries, mac & cheese, spinach, and brussels sprouts. Seems like there could be a little better variety. Let's face it: spinach and brussels sprouts are NOT the most loved veggies in America! Our server, Michelle, was fun, attentive, and helpful. She kept our water glasses topped off. All-in-all, a very enjoyable evening in a setting to die for. read more

The last three times I have eaten here I ordered the view burger. The waiter asks " how would you like it cooked? I say Rare.. Every time it has been overly well done. I hate sending back food and would rather just stop going the View 202. Oh. And last night the waiter came over with my well done burger and told me -the chef said they will only serve the view burger if I'm sitting in the bar for now on. My family did not like what they ordered either. Sorry View202, I like your atmosphere, but my experience with your food and service is NOT good. I was so disappointed . I have had your hamburgers before and they were so very delicious. This time they were very greasy and had more sausage then hamburger meat and the bun was nothing special. Left more than half of it. The fettuccine was very bland. Needed more seasoning. So disappointed . :-( Children menu was a good price but a toasted cheese for kids should not be on rye bread. It took over an hour from the time we ordered to get our food. The restaurant was not busy we were there at 5:15. Why did it take so long ? Have you changed Chiefs? Your quality has dropped . The servers, hosts & busboys were accurate and competent. The ONE COMPLAINT or thing that was annoying were the managers, lol ~ There must have been 6 of them walking around and we were asked at least 2 times ny each how everything was....strange. It is a new restaurant, so hopefully that was the reason they were circling like buzzards. Oh....and the prices of entrees were great, very reasonable...not at all what we expected. The sides, soda's, tea's and of course cocktails were overpriced though. I mean $6 for a side of asparagus (3) or fries!?!? BLUF - I do NOT recommend this place if you are wanting exceptional service and food quality for the very high prices you will pay. If you're ok with paying too much for slower than acceptable , inexperienced service to include cocktails, and don't mind a previously frozen meat entree being over cooked then you'll be ok here. After all, it is considered fine dining ( by the staff, just ask them) and has a great view. Highlights -- Good Stuff first. Great view. Nice patio and ambiance. Staff ( a few and bartender) was friendly and serving. Calamari and seared ahi were properly prepared and nice presentation. Pretty good actually but pricey. That's about it... Ugh... I Was hoping for more Now for The not so good stuff and the down right disappointing, which is why it gets 2 stars, like a D on a report card. Why not a C you ask? I don't find it average to overpay and be disappointed, that's why. Below average, D+ at best. The manner in which the wait staff executes needs work. For fine dining ( as they claim to be) and the high prices one might expect to be taken care of in a timely manner AND a properly prepared entree, NOT the case here; staff very slow and could not anticipate the basic needs o guests. Bartenders were unwilling to attempt a basic cocktail they were not familiar with. $35 for the halibut - ok but please make it worth it. Nope, not here. Very dry, overlooked and served with a polenta I could not recognize. Bland and very small in portion size. Also it was served cold, barely warm- like it had sat there for quite a while. Huge disappointment. Not a bad place overall, but it's the view and the patio that will bring you back, not the excellent service, fine selection of beer and wine and perfect food, as they are all lacking here. read more

We had a lovely dinner last night to celebrate a birthday. My mother and I had the Halibut and it was delicious!!! A nice caper sauce with yummy mashed potatoes and crisp veggies. I couldn't finish it all. The hostess and servers were pleasant and prompt. We had a reservation for a booth and that's what we got. All in all a great evening out and I have already recommended the halibut dish to a few friends today. read more

This was absolutely the worst dining experience I've had in my life. The service was terrible, the food was sub par, and the management was unapologetic when we voiced our dissatisfaction. It's no wonder they were fined recently. A pretty good indication of the way they do business. Get every dollar they can while putting customer satisfaction, health and safety on the back burner. Sunday Brunch: One step above Denny's. Eggs benedict was served with soggy deep fried potatoes. I also ordered a waffle which I guess doesn't come with syrup unless you request it. The menu listed pure maple syrup but what they brought me (upon request) was cheap table syrup, also know as pancake syrup, or fake a** fructose syrup. My hubby and I had been here 1 time before, and I had liked the food and ambiance, so for my birthday we decided to get dressed up and go again. First thing is, that we made a reservation (even though it was a Weds night) when we arrived we were asked to wait. Ok.... 10 min later we were seated in an EMPTY restaurant (only two tables w/ people in them) there were more staff running around then customers. I found it odd we had to wait. We were seated by a window as requested but soon found out it was a horrible spot due to being right next to the patio doors. Servers went in and out so many times and it was dreadfully hot (100+) so each time, I was blasted w/ heat and it was a very noisy door. Again, empty restaurant, there were lots of tables available near windows away from this door. Oh well, moving on. We ordered the Asian nachos appetizer which I actually quite enjoyed. My husband got a Moscow mule cocktail which was also good. Then our entree's arrived. All very timely. We both ordered the New York strip but different temps. My medium-well was just well. His medium-rare was very medium only. Again, not the hugest deal. It was juicy and looked gorgeous, however it was a little tuff to cut and completely flavorless. I was so disappointed in the entree, it was just completely void of flavor, and at $32 a plate I was like wow! What a let down. Now, dessert on the other hand was stunning and SO good! My favorite part lol. The other thing is, that although at first it appears to be a nice clean, elegant/modern restaurant, it's actually a little dirty. Finger/handprints on our window. Spotted silverware, spilled something dried up on baseboards in the waiting area.... etc just little things, but for a pricey restaurant I expect better. Basically, in a nut shell, go for a cooler day to eat on the balcony, order an appetizer for your meal, skip the entree's (too expensive for crappy cookery and zero flavor) and indulge in their amazing desserts. Particularly the coconut flan and creme brûlée. Staff was ok too, although the waitress was nice she wasn't around too often. I recently took my mother here for her birthday. Overall, we had a positive experience. It is classier than most Redding restaurants, but not over the top. We had patio reservations - they have a lounge area with fire pits, and dinner tables that overlook the river. Our server was the thing that made this visit less than stellar. She was very pushy (I understand it's part of the job, but no means no) with drinks, apps, salads, etc. She was mostly absent from our table. She brought four bite-sized pieces of bread to go with a full plate of their dipping sauce, and then never offered to bring more. Someone else's waitress DID offer to bring more, which was greatly appreciated as the dipping sauce and bread was very good. We ordered their chicken and salmon. It wasn't anything wildly creative, but the simple seasoning was good, the portions were decent, and we left satisfied. Expect to spend around at least $50 for two people here. read more

View 202 has such potential - it has a great location and the facility itself isn't bad. However, their execution SEVERELY falls short from what I believe they are attempting to achieve. The establishment is not kept well in the cleanliness department, especially their outdoor eating area. There are spiderwebs galore, and even on the inside it is lacking - paint chips, bits of food and trash on the floor, banged up booths, chairs... Mind you, this is coming from someone who is highly detailed and values cleanliness and aesthetic in a restaurant business. And then the food... my husband and I have eaten there twice, and of the 4 meals we've tried, 3 were very bland. We were very disappointed for what we were expecting from a "fancy, upscale" restaurant chef. The only dish I particularly like is their side dish of sweet potato fries, which shouldn't be something to be proud of at a higher-priced restaurant. I will say the staff is pretty friendly, but they could use some improvement in their service time such as waiting to receive your meal or waiting to receive any additional drinks, etc. Perhaps they are short staffed. Ultimately, I will only be going to View 202 if I am required to for a friend or family member's birthday party or special event. read more

We had the good luck to be taken to this place by friends in the Redding area during our recent visit last week for a couple of rounds of golf in the area. We were a party of 3 couples. We had reservations for 6:30 PM on a Thursday night. It's a very contemporary building and decor. The interior is very handsome and striking. I found it architecturally interesting. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted and immediately shown to our table out on their balcony patio. Wow, what a stunning view. It suddenly made so much sense for their name - "View" because it is a terrific view of the Sacramento River, the valley and the mountains in the background. And "202" is their street address. It's both a meaningful as well as memorable name for a fine dining venue. Their menu is quite varied with lots of 'small plates' that are good for sharing. My wife and I decided to "graze." We just ordered small plates and kept a menu to keep ordering more if we were still hungry after the initial order.:) The other 2 couples had conventional 3 entrees and 1 small plate item. There were very good choices in full entrees, as well. I started with a bowl of Clam Chowder. My wife and I shared Fish Tacos, Braised Short Rib Tacos and a Thai Beef Salad. She had a glass of wine and I had bottled Wheat Beer. The others had a Pasta Primavera, Mahi Mahi, Braised Shortribs for entrees and 1 small plate - the Chef's Special for the night (that I can't remember what it was). The Clam Chowder was excellent - nice and creamy rich but not too thick or gloppy with good clam flavor and perfectly seasoned! We liked our Beef and Fish Tacos, too, but the real star for us was the Thai Beef Salad. Wow! Do not miss this if you like spicy things. It was spicy hot but not too hot and it had just the right balance of sweet and acidic dressing. The beef was perfectly grilled medium rare and very tender. Thai Beef Salad is a pretty standard item on my Thai menus but none were as good as this - not even in our several trips to Thailand! The others reported that their selections were also very good and all were very happy. Everyone had beer or wine and we were one happy group, even though there was a delay. Someone had broken a glass in the kitchen and in order to avoid any risk of glass shards getting into any of the food or dishes, they stopped everything and started all over again on their orders in that area of the kitchen. That brings us to our fabulous server, Chelsey. She came to us to tell us what had happened and apologized for the delay. She had the professionalism and strength to tell us - straight up - no excuses, no avoidance! She told us BEFORE it became a problem to us. And did I mention that she is young, smart, spirited and very attractive and, obviously, well educated. She convinced me to get the chowder and she was 'spot on' because it was great! We enjoyed her a lot! The total tab for all this great experience was $176, tax included but before adding tip. That's less than $30 per person with drinks! That's pretty darned good for such a good, fun place with a stunning view. Oh yeah, did I mention that it is a super casual place so you can relax and enjoy just hanging out? No place is perfect. So, the one negative I have to report is - the salt/pepper mill didn't work very well. Turning in left gave me freshly ground sea salt. Turning it the other way was supposed to give me fresh ground pepper. Not so. It didn't work well. But, hey, that's a little pimple in the overall scope of things!!! All in all, we had a great time. The food was superb; the view was outstanding; the service was excellent and we were among good friends. What's not to like??? We'll be back if we are ever in the area, again. Spent a wonderful warm evening on the patio. So happy to have a beautiful restaurant on the river again ! Cocktails (mexacali martini & vodkatini) and appetizers (calamai, bread & dipping oil) were great. Our cocktail waitress was very attentive. Only problem was another annoying waitress kept flipping on a blaring security light every 10 minutes. Once seated it took a while to be waited on. Staff seemed a little young and inexperienced, a lot of hustle bustle but not much attention to detail. The menu was a little limited, but we found something we liked. LOVED the Butter Nut Squash Ravioli, so so on the roast chicken...quite salty. Over all it was a positive experience and I will go back again, mostly for the view !! read more

4 of us went for cocktails and appetizers on the patio. I ordered the margarita and my sister-in-law ordered the mojito. We ordered 2 appetizers (sweet potato fries and mini tacos) My husband ordered a pepsi. The bill was $50. The service was fine, except that the waitress offered a refill on the pepsi and forgot to bring it. The drinks and food tasted fine. The fries were the best tasting - coated in brown sugar and cinnamon I think. They had a nice flavor on their own. I thought it was strange that they were served with ranch since they were sweet. Decor was pleasant, noise level was pretty high outside but we could converse well enough. We might go back and try dinner there sometime but I'm assuming it would be crazy expensive if our appetizer bill was so high. read more

My husband and I love eating at View 202, great atmosphere, consistently good food. I was very surprised by some of the negative reviews posted below. The portion sizes at this restaurant are quite generous, especially considering this is a "Fine Dining" restaurant. They obviously take pride in the quality of their food, and their menu shows a considerable amount of knowledge about what's seasonal and pairs well together. The prices are more then fair for the quality of food, this is in no way comparable to "applebee's" as another review wrote... this is NOT a chain restaurant that's serving you the common, frozen faire... they use fresh seasonal ingredients. The chef often comes out to greet his customers, and that always speaks volumes about the quality and pride he's taking in this restaurant. As far as the service goes, my experience is very similar in ALL fine dining restaurants we've been in, whether we're in San Fran, or Redding, servers tend to leave you to enjoy the experience checking in much less frequently, which is honestly what I prefer. We never went without, always had refills of water and bread, and they did a great job, The hostess staff was very accommodating allowing us to choose whether we wanted to be seated inside our out, and even letting us explore our options before being seated. I was grateful we had a choice and felt they did a great job. ALL IN ALL I don't see any reason why this restaurant shouldn't receive 5 STARS. read more

Enjoyed dinner and drinks here on a Saturday night. We came because of the outdoor seating, which was lovely in June. There were couches, tables for two, and fire pits. Enjoyed the sounds of frogs on the Sacramento river. Downside is the mosquitoes, but that is hardly the fault of View 202. (There is also a nice indoor seating area.) Jimmy D, the DJ, "spun" some great, eclectic, and danceable music. This was probably the most happening place in Redding. Helpful wait staff. Tasty food with noticeable presentation. Variety of cocktail options, I quite enjoyed the best Mint Julep. They provided samples of their wine, but my girlfriend was not impressed enough to get any, so she got a fancy cocktail instead. read more

I LOVE the patio overlooking the Sacramento River and Mountains. If they would let us, the wife and I would bring sleeping bags and never leave. :) I must admit we are not regulars. When the weather is nice, we come here to look at the views, nosh, talk, meet friends, and have drinks on the patio. Every single time we have been treated as royalty and have had great food. We happened to be in Redding for our 29th wedding anniversary and we wanted to have a special dinner. We found View 202 and decided to give it a try. The staff were extremely pleasant and hospitable. We opted to sit outdoors with the view of the sunset and the river. Our server was Mariah and she was top notch. She was very knowledgeable on the menu and her suggestions were appreciated. The additional staff we had, a young girl with long beautiful braids, was just as attentive. The baked bri and Ceasar salads were great starters. My husband had the blackened cajun salmon while I ordered the Mediterranean Hallibut. Both dishes were delicious. Mariah gifted us a crème brûlée for dessert to celebrate our anniversary. We were very impressed with the food, the service, the view, and in total the entire experience at View202. We may make the 3 hour drove to dine there again. Had a fabulous dinner at View 202 last night, excellent service and the view and ambience is great. Had the pasta and shrimp special and it was enough for a family of four. Ended up taking most of it home. Prices are a little high but the food and experience is upscale. My only negative comment is the bartender was less than friendly, she seemed to have no personality and was concerned that we pay our bar bill before being seated for dinner. All in all, great experience, however next time we will be seated for dinner and then order cocktails, but not at the bar. read more

I agree with Jennifer...way too many harsh reviews for a brand new restaurant. It will take a month or so for the place to learn and gain experience, that being said...I had an enjoyable lunch the other day. Showed up around 1:00, the place was packed. Warm and friendly hostess immediatly showed me to a table. The gentleman that served me was helpful friendly and efficient. Ordered a glass of Sauv Blanc and the pasta dish with chicken and artichoke hearts. The pasta is homemade and was amazing. The dish itself was close to perfection, chicken cooked just right, sauce was rich and delightful, plenty of artichoke hearts and fresh spinach.The staff seemed to be well trained, my server had a good knowledge of the menu. I can't wait to enjoy dinner here. I think Joe Wong has a hit here, but have a little patience people, it is a huge undertaking to open a place like this. read more

This was my second time here and the food is not the same. I guess they have a new chef. I got the pakuku or something like that. My fish was very fishy tasting and bland. My significant other got the rib eye and they over cooked it. On a positive note the presentation was pretty. But when the most enjoyable part of my meal was the pesto olive oil and bread. I had lunch here today with my mother and 3 friends for the first time since it opened. Having read other yelp reviews, I was a little hesitant to take out of town friends but we all adored View 202. Service was impeccable, ambiance was gorgeous and the food was superb. I had the turkey sliders and sweet potato fries. Both were amazing, best fries ever. Two of the ladies had the butternut squash ravioli, and there was not a bite left on their plate. Another had the pasta and a chicken sandwich and all were pleased with their meals. I thought everything was reasonably priced for what you get, and certainly there is no other restaurant in town with this modern yet elegant flair. The outside looks fabulous as does the bar area and we cannot wait to return. My only complaint is that there is not a happy hour, however the owner assured us that one is in the works. We look forward to many more visits in the future. read more

Bring back the old menu and chef! We took some friends from So Cal last night to the View and we were very disapointed. The menu had completely changed and the selection of food choices was very different. Our guests ordered the ratatouille and pizza. Both looked like small appetizers and they came out cold. The puzza looked like it was burned around the edges and the ratatouille was not as described by our server. My wife ordered the trout with curry cream sauce. It also arrived cold with no hint of curry anywhere. I ordered the rib taco appetizer plate and it was more food than the entres. Everything totaled over $110.00 with tip....no alcohol, or beverages ordered. The service was friendly, but the food took forever to come out and it was not hot. We have been to the view several times and have always enjoyed ourselves. This time was a huge disappointment. Please go back to the old menu. People don't want an appetizer sized meal and then have to pay a premium for it. read more

I have eaten at Michelin starred restaurants, I have eaten at dingy food carts that serve epic food....And I have also been to View 202...I showed up at 6:30, they would not seat us, not a single table was sat in their Auditorium sized dining room...If you don't open for dinner service till 7...Stay closed,,Don't try to trap me in to drinking at your bar till you "get me a table"...This was just the beginning. Once we finally sat, they put us right by the door to walk out to their patio..Why the hell do you have a table RIGHT next to the Second busiest doors inside the restaurant? The first being the kitchen...SO now...Let me review on the actual service and food.... Appetizer : Calamari strips, rubbery, breading was soft , NO LEMON ON THE PLATE?!..Did you really just serve me fried sea food with no acid??!? Nice! Main Course : I see they have Steak Frites on the menu, So I ask, Are you doing your fries in duck fat? "No.." Clearly..They have no idea what Steak Frites is or what makes it Steak Frites... SO I order the chicken Saltimboca and my girlfriend gets the spare rib...The cheese had congealed in my saltimboca the breast was dry the prosciutto rubbery Dessert : Didn't want to try .. Service : My girlfriend likes to sample a few wines before she decides, on her second sample request our server brought her a full glass of something she wanted to try...She didn't bring our food herself, didn't bring us Lemon slices for our appetizer till it was halfway done or tell the person who did serve our table who was getting what! She didn't think to come ask if we were enjoying our meal until my last bite...Big mistake! A group of friends had the opportunity to visit View last night for their "Wine Down Wednesday". The appy was a seared ahi tostada with a wasabi coleslaw, avocado and a lime garnish. We couldn't have been more pleased with this treat. Sushi grade tuna and a crispy tostada. Who could be unhappy with that. The ahi was cooked perfectly and the flavors were spot on. Horrible service, party of 12 -asked three times to order dinner, brought 1 order of bread for one end of table, 30 minutes to get final serving of bread. Food was mixed, steaks were cold other entrees adequate. Waitress (Morgan) corrected us when asked for bread, "I was just coming to tell you it's baking" - um thanks? If we had to keep asking maybe it should have been volunteered earlier? Had to ask for water, etc Overall very disappointing as we've enjoyed this place on many occasions and this was a graduation celebration. read more

The food was fine and the service was below average, but the prices were ridiculous for what you're getting. This is the closest thing to a nice restaurant with good food that Redding has, and they know it. Not worth it. read more

Very disappointed in the service. This was a very good place to eat once upon a time. The waiter did not know anything about the meals or the specialty drinks. Given that he was new he should have had better training and assistance with his tables. The manager quotes that they recently had undergone new management and this was the problem Then 2 of our fish meals looked similar and they were given to the wrong people at our table! Wasn't until we were part way into the meals did we realize this! One meal came with potatoes that were asked to be omitted (no biggie) but they were COLD! This is a more "fancy" restaurant and I was very disappointed. They did comp the meal with the cold potaoes but in my opinion this place has been open far to long for this kind of service. The service and the food was excellent. Nice atmosphere even with the outdoor seating

Went for lunch at 11:50AM, got seated after waiting a few minutes, no big deal BUT, waited 20 minutes for someone to bring us water and a menu. Received our food another 20 minutes later....no problem, EXCEPT, ordered Fish and Chips. Worst experience ever. Fish was soggy, overcooked, almost burnt, did I say soggy!!! Coleslaw was spoiled. Now, Fish and Chips, should be crunch, or at least crispy.... The waitress came and asked if everything was okay.... we told her it was overcooked and she asked if we wanted another piece!!! NO we did not want more of the same... Sorry, it's hard to mess up Fish and Chips if you know how to cook it. The Chef/Cook, should have known just by looking at it that it was overcooked since all the edges of BOTH plates of fish were black!!! read more
