We had a vacuum problem and they took it in, diagnosed it, realized it wasn't anything they could fix, and didn't even charge me for their time, which I would've gladly paid for. I am absolutely appalled at how businesses cheat their customers, their very lifeblood and expect to prosper. My vacuum's chord had become so frayed that the wires were showing. I turned the vacuum on and sparks flew and it stopped working. Pure negligence on my part. I took the vacuum in and was told that they would replace the chord and give the vacuum an overall servicing. They charged me for a new chord (see attached receipt). Actually they put an electrical chord sleeve on the old chord. I can see the burn marks on the chord. (See attached picture). They proved untrustworthy and devoid of integrity. I spent over $500.00 on repairs to my sewing machine at this store, and my sewing machine still doesn't work. I would never recommend them.

This is our absolute go-to for all things Viking. When our last viking sewing machine broke down, they were very honest with us that they might be able to fix it, if they could get the part and if that was the problem. They gave us a good ballpark of how much it would cost if that were the case. Some of the options were expensive - but that's what happens when you are dealing with expensive machines that require a smart human to fix them! And nothing they have ever quoted us has been outrageous. They clearly have a good understanding of the machines and have a lot more access to spare parts than other places that we've been to. We ended up buying a new (used) machine from them, which was just what we wanted and at a good price. You can tell they are experts with Vikings, and especially with the high cost of new machines we appreciate the ability to get them fixed! read more

I have been bringing my equipment to Viking in Renton for over 10 years. I can tell you that their service man is fundamentally excellent! I used to have an old Singer serger I purchased cheap, used off the internet, and they never charged me for parts I didn't need. When it was time to replace the serger, I bought one from Viking - feeling fully confident that it would have a good, long life of honest repair. I would like to add that every time I bring one of my machines home from a service visit (I have them cleaned every few years), that they are cared for delicately, treated royally, and sent home beautifully arranged. The first time I went to this Viking Sewing and Vacuum in Renton, I had a pretty good experience. I just moved here from Lynnwood, and needed a block taken care of. It was great, simple clog removed on the spot free of charge, I ordered a part I needed, paid in advance and left. The next time I came in, I had another minor clog, which in retrospect I should have just unplugged myself, but I needed to pick up my part so I figured, it would be super simple for them with their tools and hoses to do fast. Well...I came in and was instantly greeted, quite rudely by an older woman who just asked me "what's wrong with your vacuum?" no, hi, how are you today...smile, nothing. Instantly bristling with her rude demeanor, I told her I had a simple plug and I had to pick up a part. She started filling out some paperwork...to which I said, that I thought it was probably super easy and could be done on the spot. She looked at me with a terrible expression and said that she would have to check it in, as I couldn't be "bumping" ahead of people. I saw the writing on the wall, in the tone...and told her nevermind I would just pick up my part. Anyway...I finally got the guy to look at my vacuum and took it to the back to check it out. He brought it back, after about 5 minutes and said it was unclogged. Then I was charged $14 for that!!! Now, I am all about charging for labor, but not about inconsistancy. I do not accept the "today l won't charge you, the next day I will " without even a warning or quote ahead of time before being charged is unprofessional. I can only chalk it up to the fact that they needed to make money from me, and the last time they got it from the part, this time it was for the minimal labor. I don't even know if it really works as they did not show me. As someone in customer service, I have to be nice to everyone at ALL times, and if you are gruff, or a customer is unsatisfied you must do what it takes to smooth it over. As much as we don't like this, it is the way retail works now it seems. After all that rudeness from the female employee which I cannot adequately describe to you in mere words that 5 minute "fix" should have been complimentary. As it stands now, i will go back to Lynnwood for my vacuum cleaner repair where they did a whole tuneup and big fix for $20. Don't go here if you value consistency of service and nice demeanors. read more

The only reason I gave them any stars is because they do know their stuff when it comes to fixing machines. The problem I have is their not being honest and being greedy when it comes to their service fee for just checking out a sewing machine. I paid $157 to have my sewing machine serviced because the power was no longer coming on. I found out all I needed was a new power foot control. They are about $40 online! I could have bought a replacement for over half of what I paid for them to tell me that was all I needed. They really overcharge just to check and see what your machine needs. read more

Purchased 2 vacuum cleaner belts. Old one was warn but not broken. The 1st belt lasted less then 2 minutes and snapped in half. I inspected the second belt and found small holes near the seam in the belt. I pulled slowly on the belt the holes grew larger. I immediately took both defective belts back to the store. I was told they are not warranteed and it was my fault the roller didn't role correctly or it got caught on my carpet (I was vacuuming vinyl-vacuum had recently been serviced so it was in perfect condition). These are defective belts they sold and refused to replace. Unprofessional store and beyond poor customer service. read more

I brought my sewing machine to them for it wouldn't pick up bobbin thread. They offered and honored a free estimate on my machine. It was about week later and called and left a message on my machine. I returned the call a couple days later and found out the real damage. It is a embroidery/sewing machine and they let me decide what I wanted to do about it. So no cost to me I still have the embroidery part of the machine. Not a total loss and I didn't waste any money finding this out from a skilled technician. Will use them again. read more

Called before going in and was told they would fix it and I could wait as it was a small repair. So I got my vacuum and headed to their store. After arriving three hours from my initial call, they tell me I would have to leave it for up to 2 weeks! Was also told they had the part needed in stock and they would call me when it was fixed. I called 1-1/2 weeks later to see if it might be ready for pick-up and they told me they hadn't started repairing it because they had to order the part and it might take another two to three weeks. They did not bother calling me to tell me it would be much longer than promised. Stay away - they don't know what customer service is; nor do they care. read more

I called this place to inquire on repair of my Riccar vacuum. The older lady I spoke to was extremely rude and condesending. I'm sorry I don't know the inner workings of my vacuum. That's YOUR job not mine, but don't treat me and talk to me like I'm an idiot because I'm not in the vacuum repair business. My dyson vacuum one day would not stand upright. My vacuum was under warranty and this was the closest repair shop in the area. The staff are really nice and informative. They told me how to keep my dyson running smooth, they also informed me on a lot of other products they had in the store with no pressure to buy, I was hesitant with these people at first after reading the reviews on google, but they were friendly people and i will be back again this time as a paying customer. read more

I pointed out politely saying that I had contacted Hoover that morning and was directed to their store to have it repaired free of charge and so I had driven half an hour to get there. The minute I walked in, they didn't even give me a minute to explain my story and started telling me that it's my fault and it'll cost me. Despite their rude welcoming, I smiled (it was a perfect weathered Monday morning) and confidently told them my end of the story and even offered politely to call the company again in front of them. They refused to allow me to use their phone (my cellular battery was running low). The 2 owners tried bullying me and both stood there with their arms crossed and looked down at me like 2 Goliaths ready to attack David. They outright rejected my explanation and just stood there basically claiming that "I lied and there's nothing I can do, that they're the only store that'll repair this and I would have to pay them, huh! ". With my car engine running (to keep my cellular charging), I called Hoover, after an hour (yes, my engine still running (remember, the store owner refused me to use his phone!), customer service sided on my behalf (I told them that driving another 45min to Kent, the nearest repair center, was out of the question with gas prices these days and my time, it would've been more cost effective for me to purchase a new one instead, afterall, a new one's only $80, I'd have to drive 2x, I'd have to pick it back up when the repair was done) and so they just sent me a new vacuum instead. Run from this RENTON VIKING AND SEWING VACUUM store, they don't care about "you" the customer, they're a bait and switch store. The manufacturers send you there, and then you become the "live bait". They'll try to charge you for things that you may be covered for with your warranty! I'm not a person who normally writes reviews, but just want to prevent future incidences from happening to innocent ladies who does sewing. I was ready to browse at the selection of sewing machines and ask santa for one. I had to find specific bobbins for my machine and the ladies at Joann Fabrics told me I needed to go to Viking Sewing & Vacuum. My first thought was "Whoa there's still a Viking Sewing & Vacuum store in business after the recession?!" And my second thought was "What made Mr. Viking decide to sell vacuums AND sewing machines?" Well this "vintage" shop ended up being in downtown Renton off 3rd and next to an framed art and sign shop (yeah who knew, right?) and there was easy street parking. There were two nice gals working and as soon as I asked for what I needed, one lady knew exactly what model and where. I assume she was the owner or manager because she just told the other lady where to get them as she continued to sit...boss lady. Afterwards we chatted about my machine and she told me about a great sewing class I could take and I ended up leaving my info for it. Overall, it's a small shop with a lot of stuff that we apparently still need in America and the service was excellent so if you're ever in need of a vacuum, sewing machine or miniature fake fireplace heater (it was by the register and quite nice I must admit), you should definitely check them out. read more

I have had my Designer SE serviced here for several years. The friendly, knowledgeable and very helpful folks here are the greatest! I've been elsewhere before and waited to be waited on or even acknowledge that I was even there. At 'Renton, these people always acknowledge that I'm there even if they can't help me imediately. I was at a customer jobsite and borrowed their vacuum cleaner to clean up. Two minutes later the belt broke and the bag was full and they didn't have any left. I could have just gone online and buy a belt and some bags, but I try to support the local mom and pop small businesses in my community whenever I can. Viking Sewing and Vacuum is 2 miles from my home. So I go there the next morning and park in the huge parkinglot behind the store. The door is locked, they open at 10, it's 9:50 am. A woman gets out of the only other car parked in this big lot and starts berating me for not parking my car properly between the lines. The lines on the pavement were so worn out, they were barely visible. Again, the lot is huge, nearly empty and I'll be gone in a few minutes, just getting a belt and some bags real quick. She then proceeds to the back entrance of the vacuum store and unlocks the door. She works there! She saw me try open the door and then study the sign. If you think she let me in the store a few minutes before opening to help me, think again. She locked it from the inside leaving me standing on the other side. This day and age when you can purchase anything you want online, in minutes, right from your phone.... This day and age when people can share their experiences with the entire world, in minutes, right from their phone. Friendliness and excellent customer service is paramount for small business owners, now more than ever. This woman was not just unfriendly, she was downright rude. This was my third bad experience with unfriendly staff in this store. Needless to say, I will never come back. An hour later I get to my jobsite in Seattle. I Google a vacuum store and find one on Madison and Pike. I was greeted by a very friendly store owner and his adorable dog. He hands me a belt in less than 20 seconds. Unfortunately he's out of stock on the bags. He apologizes profusely and insists I just take the belt and pay when I get the bags. I explain the situation to him and ask if any other bag would fit, so I can finish cleaning up at my customers jobsite. He then takes a bag out of a floor model and gives it to me. I ask, how much it is, he says 3 bucks. I give him 5 bucks and tell him " keep the change". Outside I look at the belt, price tag on it says $4.95.... This guy gets it. I purchased a used vacuum on Craigslist and found I knew nothing about it....not even how to install the bags. my closest Vacuum store,here in Renton,was more than helpful. they sold me bags and a filter ,explained the machine and normal service and told me to come back for any other questions or problems.
