Our Breville toaster oven decided to stop working one day. (The front panel and lights still came on, but the heating elements no longer got hot.) Granted, we have had it a few years, so I guess it needed a break. After a spa getaway at Ajax, it came back refreshed and working as good as new! Imagine a 35 year old bathroom built in exhaust fan that gives up the ghost. Consider also that the company is no longer in business and no parts available on eBay or anywhere else. You can buy many different kinds of new exhaust fans but none fit in our ceiling space so it would require cutting into the ceiling expanding it and then repairing it along with all the attendant costs. McClendon's in Renton which is excellent could not help but the lady in electrical suggested that if anyone could fix the fan Ajax might and she was right. The wonderful tech guy at Ajax had a new and more powerful fan motor fitted in the awkwardly desiged case in 20 minute after he cleaning the filthy unit. Cost: $60 for the fan and $6.50 in labor. Without a doubt the best repair experience I have ever had. I am now going to have three additional aged exhaust fans removed and restored by Ajax. read more

This amazing shop gave my Kitchen Aid stand mixer a tune-up and am so grateful to have found them. The mixer wasn't sounding great and straining with dough mixing, dancing across the counter a little. It was older, given to my by grandmother years ago so would have been crushed to have to replace it. For under 100, they replaced the rear bearing set, cleaned the armature, repacked transmission with new grease, set the speed control and some other stuff I don't understand but it works great now. Ajax saved my special fan! I have an antique Emerson electric fan that's like 100 years old. It was my great-grandmother's fan when my grandmother was just a kid. And it has worked all this time! ...Until recently, when it suddenly just stopped turning on. I took it to Ajax, and they had it working for me again about two weeks later, running better than ever. Before it broke, it rattled quite a bit and the base wobbled a little. Not only did they get it working again, but they also tightened everything up and replaced an old cord with a nice new one. $46! I have a 30-year-old(+) box fan that I use for white noise when I sleep. Modern fans are designed to run quiet, which is great for watching TV with a fan on, but not so great for drowning out traffic noise. Anyway, my fan broke. I was distraught, and becoming more so by the day as my sleep suffered. When I found Ajax, I called to ask if they could take a look at my fan. They said they'd do a free diagnostic and let me know. Turned out they were able to fix it--and clean it!--and gave it back to me good as new (literally) for about 15 bucks. If any of my other small appliances ever have an issue, you can bet Ajax is where I will go. read more

Y'all. This is like the best for KitchenAid repairs. Like, BEST. Can you tell I'm dang near speechless because of the amazing service? Two downsides are that they're far from us and only open 9-5 weekdays, which might be more beneficial for those who work in downtown Seattle. It took about a week to hear back (so be patient) and they were honest about their potential inability to save our food processor. Luckily, it wasn't a total lost cause and only $18 later our $300 KitchenAid food processor is functioning again. The folks were super friendly and he was even nice enough to walk me to my car with food processor in tow since I had an infant in my arms! Can't beat that! read more

This place is operating on a schedule from a bygone era. I brought them my mixer to repair which I use daily in a professional capacity while I was slated to be away for two weeks. The dinosaur behind the counter said their policy was to call if the repair was over a certain amount, but since I was going to be out of the country I asked if they could email instead. She said no (of course not, what's email?) so I said go ahead and repair without giving me the estimate. The most important thing is that the work is completed upon my return. She didn't write anything down so I asked her to make a note of that on the work order. She told me she'd remember when they started the repair. Fast forward two weeks and 4 days: I return from my trip and phone Ajax. "Oh, um, the tech is working on it now- we'll call you tomorrow." True to their word (on one thing, at least) they call tomorrow, which is today. All they phoned to give me was the estimate to fix the mixer. And to inform me that they'd need to order parts. With zero indication as to how long the repair will take. Meanwhile I'm mixerless and unable to do my job. So awesome. They have a bit of a monopoly on small appliance repair in Seattle, it seems, so customer service needn't be a strong suit. In contrast, I took my knives to Epicurean Edge (the only choice in the Seattle area, btw, cheaper places will seriously eff up your knives) to be sharpened while I was away. They completed the sharpening by day 2 and sent a professional email with the details of my order straightaway. In this cutthroat world of fierce competition in the brick-and-mortar small business sector, I value excellent customer service above all. I will always support a local establishment if that basic tenet of professionalism is met. read more

The technicians have worked there for years and are experts in small appliance repairs and are low key friendly like the pros that used to work in Ballard. I have used them for years for mixer and bath fan repairs and appreciate the cost and quality of their repairs. This is an honest shop, and if you can leave your impatient attitude behind and treat the professionals with the patience and respect they deserve they will revive your old war horse mixer or save you from ripping out your bath fan because it needs a new motor. I would never patronize this place again... I dropped my Kitchenaid mixer off was told it'd be ready in about a week and they'd call if it'd be over $100 to repair. Sounds good, right? 2 weeks pass and I hadn't heard from them so I give them a call. They hadn't looked at it yet and it 'might' be ready next week but he wasn't sure... and just plain rude. (Thanksgiving prep is gonna be ugly without my beloved Kitchenaid.) So I did what I should have done 3 weeks ago: picked up my Kitchenaid from Ajax, paid that nasty 520 toll and dropped it off in Action Appliance. (BTW Action's diagnostic fee is $20 less than Ajax and the folks were actually friendly.) Bah-bye Ajax, hello Action. read more

I'm so glad I found this business. My Best downdraft was acting up, it would randomly stop working, and it was very difficult to reproduce the problem. Called Ajax Electric and their technician (Terry) came over to check it out. We tried to reproduce the problem together, but couldn't, so he only charged the standard fee for coming out, and promised to keep the order open so that if he had to come out again, I would not pay that fee again. Sure enough the problem reappeared, and fortunately I was able to pin down a consistent repro. Called Ajax and explained the issue, so they called the factory, which sent a new power box and a new console free of charge (kudos to Broan as well for doing this). Terry came out again and replaced both parts (it took 4+ hours), talking the the Broan technicians on the phone multiple times. Unfortunately, once everything was reassembled, the downdraft would not work at all. Terry reassured me that he would come back again, and that he would only charge me for 2 hours of labor at the end. He asked the factory to send him all new wiring, and then he finally came back today. After 2.5 hours of work, he was finally able to make the downdraft work. Apparently it was a damaged wire that was causing the problem. He kept his promise and charged me only 2 hours of labor. Additionally, all three visits he showed up on time (to the minute), and he was always courteous and fun to interact with. I'm really thankful I found them, I'll definitely call them back for any appliance repair I might need in the future. read more

I called Ajax because my Best range hood was malfunctioning and Ajax is recommended by the manufacturer. I had a great experience on the phone, and in person. The hood did the thing cars do when you take them to the shop--after a month of no fan, it started right up when they pushed the button! They were very cool about it, still checked it out inside to make sure it's as it should be, and told me more about the model and maintenance. If it causes trouble again soon they agreed to waive travel cost to come back, which is generous since it's no fault of theirs that they came out for an apparently-not-broken appliance. I dropped off my machine, and was given lovely customer service. And just under a week later (none of this two-weeks-to-"diagnose"-it crap), I got a call from Christine, the front desk person. She told me what was going on, and gave me several options...just as nice as could be. Brought my KitchenAid Mixer here for a problem with the locking mechanism. They looked at my mixer to see if they could easily fix it. This only took about 15 min. When they determined that it couldn't be fixed immediately, they took my information and promised to have it back before Thanksgiving, which was in about a week. I have been here before and always pleased at the service & the price. This time, I brought in a broken glass blender jar that still had the blades in the bottom and a spare glass blender jar to put the old blades into. (Vintage blender that still works great but - hard to find replacement parts.) The repairman was concerned that he would get cut doing the work and I didn't want him to try if he thought he might get hurt. But 5 minutes later, he had done the exchange and only asked for $5.
