I came with the intention of getting the paella but changed my mind at the last minute. I ended up getting the linguine Bulhao Pato. The food was really good and had great flavor. I love seafood and having that variety really hot the spot. Service was good. Nothing out of the ordinary but good. Overall this was a good experience and I have told my friends about it. The food here is great. They have the potential to be a great restaurant but there are issues. No decor, no ambiance. If you want a delicious meal but not a great dinner experience than sure. I made the mistake of bringing a bottle of wine, they charged me to open it without telling me, ok maybe that was my fault.... maybe. When I complained about that charge, they we're downright rude and I haven't been back since which is disappointing because the food really is good. The pack the dining room full of tables so everybody is nearly on top of each other. It was very disturbing to see the staff rushing around the dining room with trays full of food while they nearly dropped a plate on tip of a baby. Pay attention! Vila Verde is a delicious gem in Wayne that serves fabulous shellfish dishes and other Portuguese specialties. Everything that comes out of the kitchen is garlicky and delicious. But head my warning - don't let the price point fool you (it's pretty affordable) - The portions are MASSIVE. One entree can easily satisfy two people. The appetizers are entree sizes. The Portuguese sausage and the garlicky shrimp appetizers are two of the best, but again, you still have no room for your entree which will be even more massive. Every table also gets a heaping plate of rice, roasted vegetables, and hand made potato chips. Look, I'm sure on principle, the portions are what keep a lot of people coming back here. You definitely get the sense that you are getting your money's worth and then some. But I sat right near the kitchen and saw the amount of food waste taking place and it nearly made me sick. Literal pounds of rice and vegetables being thrown out from every single table. It's just a completely unnecessary amount of food, and most of it is wasted. read more

I've gone with ladies only, with couples and with family (even crazy kids) and have always left happy! Best things on the menu are the garlic shrimp, the penne/rigatoni vodka and the filet minion and sangria! Been here several times and I always order the same 3 things because they are consistently delicious. Also love the coconut dessert from bindi! It's local and they have a liquor license with NYC quality food so it's 5 stars for me! Service is also excellent...I typically get the same waiter and he never writes a thing down and is on top of everything. Love! One suggestion for improvement: start delivering!!!! read more

Good Portuguese food found right here in Wayne. This place has a great layout with plenty of space to dine. Their beautiful dining area is a must try, nice big tables to fill with food. A nice bar room as you make your way in is very inviting before moving on to dinner. I order take out and when not ready the bar makes it easy to wait. Plenty of parking around the restaurant and across the street, with valet parking sometimes available. For the food it's Portuguese and I would know for being my first language. So the flavors just roll off the tongue and all the smells of traditional Portuguese food are distinct. The paella(seafood rice) and carne a alentejana (pork cubes and clams) are really good. Fresh seafood always helps in making a great paella and Villa has it. Very generous portions served at every meal is a Portuguese standard. They might be a little more expensive than your Newark Portuguese restaurant but very worth it. A great place to have dinner and bring the family, even large groups. I can't emphasize enough though about picking up food from Villa and having that home cooked style food. I think every family does a curb side take out and this place should be on that list. Great dining experience tonight. Our waiter was the complete package, expertly guiding us through drinks, dinner options and desert. We enjoyed the shrimp in garlic sauce app with the broccoli rabe, then mains consisting of paella Valencia off regular menu and halibut special. Went with a party of 5 in a torrential rainstorm on a Saturday night place was packed. The service was outstanding regardless of the fact that all dining rooms and all tables were full. We had excellent service one of my criteria for a good review is a clean bathroom the bathrooms were spotless. The menu was fine. Then the waiter gave us the specials and we all ordered specials from what I could see. Everything was delicious two of our party ordered veal chops, smothered in marsala wine and mushrooms 2 nice sized chops per portion,another had red snapper with shrimp and a fresh tomato sauce.another had a paella that was large enough to feed several people. I ordered a halibut in a white wine caper sauce. The fish was fresh, but to be fair it was a bit dry and could've used more sauce. Platters of sides were served family style a huge platter of yellow rice, a huge platter of mixed vegetables and another big platter of the Crisp potatoes that look like potato chips, that are regularly served at most Portuguese restaurants. everyone enjoyed their food and I took a great deal home with me,had lunch and dinner for the next day. I was not able to see the bill, so I'm not sure what it came to, but it was reasonably expensive. considering that the dining rooms were full, and even people were eating at the bar our food came out hot fresh, and with very little wait. Can i say wow! This place is honestly the friendliest and customer service oriented resturant i have ever been too. Im surprised because i was greeted with kindness as soon as i went inside. Not to mention the wonderful waiter we have. His dedication to the customer is shown. The best thing however beside the service is the food. The cowboy steak was 69.99 for two and at 38 oz is one of the best steaks i have had in a very long time. The rice was amazing as well. Everything you order from here as a rich vibrant flavor. Went to this place last week, first time there. Very crowded and noisy. We made the mistake and ordered a couple of the nightly specials. The server did not say the prices after explaining the dish. I should have asked but I did not. Well one of the specials we did order was Rack of Lamb .Ok how much could it be, 35.00, 45.00 dollars? Well to our shock it was 70.00! And it was dry and tasteless! Came here in the fall with my dad to celebrate a promotion. We ordered oysters, paella Valenciana, and red sangria. All of the seafood was very fresh. The paella was so flavorful and the sangria was refreshing, not watered down. It's across from a lake which is nice and there is a large parking lot across the street. read more

Big energetic room getting a bit loud at times. The food and service are very good and worth a visit.

We could dine here an average of once per year (last 11-years) on our annual visit to the area we used to live in. The restaurant never disappoints and is a highlight of our visit. Always great food and service with generous portions. I usually get the Veg. Soup, a Portuguese standard which tastes like homemade. While not a fancy dish, coupled with their outstanding crusty bread, it doesn't get better. My spouse had the Garlic Soup, again, outstanding. Their Paella de Valencia can't be beat. One dish easily serves two. While authentic Paella de Valencia is really chicken, string beans, pimentos and saffron rice. In NY/NJ we know the one which has shellfish, chicken, fish, sausage as Paella de Valencia. That would be called Paella de Mariscos in Spain. Doesn't matter of course, I just LOVE it. To top off our meal I had Poached Pears in red wine sauce serve with Vanilla Ice Cream, HEAVEN on the well presented plate. I've greet is that there is no equivalent restaurant in the DC or Baltimore areas where we live. We will definitely come back again. My husband and I decided to have our anniversary dinner at Villa Verde and it did not disappoint. From the appetizers (my husband ordered the lump crab meat and I ordered the mussels in marinara) absolutely delicious. We also had the pitcher of sangria and it was amazing. What can I say? Lovely restaurant, impeccable service and delicious food. We came here on a Wednesday for our 9 year anniversary. The clams casino appetizer was very good and you can actually taste and see the clams. I had the tuna... the biggest piece of tuna entree I've ever had and it was perfect. What a great place. Even though we live in the area, this was our first time there. Had lunch. Started with the shrimp in garlic sauce appetizer. Wow. If you like garlic & shrimp, this is a must try. This was the best we've ever had. We were first introduced to this appetizer years ago at another Spanish Portuguese restaurant and have always ordered it when at a similar place. Main entree was a stuffed salmon and pork chop in a balsamic sauce. My wife said the salmon was fantastic and the pork was excellent. My wife mentioned she really liked the vegi's as they were fresh, not prepared from frozen. The staff was great. Friendly, courteous and attentive. It's been a while since we've seen this since the pandemic. Keep in mind we don't go out that often but when we do, we like to get the most from it without breaking the bank. Found this gem when my daughter fell in love with Renaldo. Go there 4 or 5 times a year. Although that doesn't seem impressive the food is great. Most of the dishes can feed 2 people. I would go more often if we could agree to a single dish for the both of us. With that said it's next door to a nursing home and I already made a request, to my daughter to be sequestered there, so I will always have good food available. read more

A bit disappointed. Their food seems to be more about quantity than quality. Service was very good. Food just OK. The only dish that seemed to get rave reviews at our table was the mussels (green) appetizer. I had the vegetarian paella. They brought me a mountain of rice with broccoli, zucchini, mushrooms, peas. Not much flavor. My husband had the pork chops and said that they are much better up the street at the Oakland diner! Prices seemed pretty reasonable for what you got, especially since they serve easily twice as much as might be expected. We all brought our leftovers home & doctored them with extra seasoning! As I get older, I still appreciate great food and wonderful service, but as strange as it may seem, I find the portions at Vila Verde to be far too large. In addition, most tables end up receiving a large plate of Spanish style rice, a good amount of bread, and Spanish style fried potatoes. Rice, bread and potatoes? This spot is nice for seating outside . We randomly picked this place but were very happy with choice ! There food is authentic and the server and boss are all pretty nice!
