I've visited Avila Verde several times and recommend them highly. Service is always fast, courteous and welcoming. Food is always on point. I've tried several dishes- garlic shrimp, mariscada, prime rib, stuffed lobster....nothing disappoints. Portions are always more than enough for two meals and served family style with table portions of yellow rice and hand cut chips (fresh bread and olives to start). The food here is outstanding and the paella is one of the best I have ever had. It's made for two people and has two varieties. I had the Paella Valencia, which has sausage. There is ample rice and the food is always fresh. I also ordered the calamari appetizer and it was perfect! The tomato dipping sauce went very well with it. The only downside was the service was slow. It was Father's Day weekend and we have a party of seven but the food took an hour to come out. This is always our go to spot when we want a great meal. We even order the paella to go to have for dinner at home at times. The specials are always outrageously good, there are no better garlic shrimp in the whole land and the portions are always huge, so we always have some thing to take home. We went to villa verde years ago and never went back. We found hair in the food The chef and manager all came out with the kitchen staff saying none of them had hair on their head. Not dark hair at least. I have dark hair. They said that the hair must have fallen out In the food from my head. We were there with friends and were so dumbfounded. Who treats their patrons like this. We sent the food back I didn't eat and they charged us for it. No apologies. When we left we could not find our car keys. The food is served Spanish family style with sauteed vegetables, Spanish fries (thick-cut potato chips essentially), and rice. Also, the restaurant advises everyone to have their own entree or they're charge $5 plate fee for sharing. I opted for the seafood casserole in salsa verde. It had a great variety of shrimp, mussels, clams, and half a small lobster. The sauce wasn't too salty but had a great seafood flavor. My boyfriend chose the shrimp in spicy tomato sauce which was also pretty tasty. I think overall, the portions are really generous for the price and you definitely leave feeling full. This place is and always has been absolutely phenomenal. Living near by, our family utilizes this location for our annual Christmas Eve dinner and it never falls short. Despite the covid hardships (you can tell they are short staffed and a bit more stressed than the normal relaxed atmosphere) quality never faults. Steaks are tender and delicious, fish is buttery and flakey, lobster is mouthwatering and sides are always a perfect compliment. This was only my second time to the Vila Verde restaurant and I was glad that it was the choice made for my cousin's birthday gathering. The last time I was here was for the christening party for her daughter and that was a memorable meal that made me hope to return here again. It was holiday time and while some ideas were tossed around the decision was made to gather at Vila Verde and we would start with two pitchers of their wonderful sangria. It was the first time I would have this with a white wine and it was amazing. Our party was big but we never lost too much enjoying the time spent since our waiter and bus staff were very attentive to our needs. For my appetizer I had a dozen blue point oysters and this was something others chose as well. I don't often have these but it was holiday celebrating so why not. The dinner options for the table were vast and varied but a couple of us had a BBQ seafood platter special. It featured a few pieces of several kinds of seafood offerings and a lobster tail and claw. The seafood here is so tasty that I could not imagine trying anything else. There was a complimentary WiFi which allowed for some proper Foodspotting and while the prices are a tad high you are getting superb quality with the dishes and the service. Sometimes this is not a bad thing. Thought I know it will be some time before I make it back there I can surely say that I will be doing that again. I went back to Vila Verde for the first time last month since Covid began, though I have had takeout from them during the crisis. The occassion was a 100th birthday party for my mother. The food and service exceeded my high expectations. They also accomodated two people with special dietary needs. All who attended had a great time. Almost all who attended came from great distances. One of the largest were a group from about 50-60 miles away. Almost all of them told me that they enjoyed the food so much that they would be coming back. My family and I came here for a small gathering to celebrate my niece's christening. We were overall satisfied with the Portuguese cuisine and hospitality of the staff. Very clean and well kept inside. The bar is small but nice. No beer on tap, but they carry the usual selection of foreign and domestic macro beer. I liked the fact they carry Super Bock which is a pretty decent Portuguese lager. The Sangria was a little on the sweet side and tasted more like fruit punch though. This was the one small knock we had, but otherwise I will come back here for sure. Not a bad place to bring a date or have your family out to dinner. I wouldn't bring my friends here to hang out at the bar on a Saturday night, as this doesn't seem to be that kind of establishment in this regard. Arrived at 7:30 pm expecting to be seats by 7:40-45 NOT finally seated at 8:30 one hour after which really is an hour and half past original 7pm reservation. The biggest thing that pisses me off is to be lied to about reservations if you know it will be late, tell me to come at 8 pm or even 8:30 pm. I'm having dinner deja vu! Didn't I just write a few days ago that Spanish/Portuguese places are all kind of the same? This one proves my theory. Came here with a party of about 25 for a little celebration and service was wonderful, sangria delicious, appetizers hit the spot after freezing our asses off in the lakefront gazebo just prior to sitting down in this warm dining room. Dinner was a choice of Flintstones-worthy steak, seafood paella or some kind of chicken dish (I hear "chicken" and I tune out). I went with the paella and it was good except for the sad piece of dried out lobster tail. I felt bad for the little guy. It seemed wasteful to kill him and then not even make him edible. What was the point? Taking a star off for lack of respect to the mighty lobster and what the hell, a couple of shrimp. Quick note on the decor (if you pay attention to that sort of thing): it is stuck in 1987! Teal chairs people! Teal! I know this place has to make some serious coin since there was no lack of hungry bodies lining the walls waiting for an available table! I guess I come here often enough that it's probably time to write a review. The service is fantastic - friendly, attentive, and after a certain point they come to know you AND your usual order. They make you feel welcome and at home. The paella (I get the Valenciana) is the best paella I've ever had, anywhere in the world! It's just a perfect balance of ingredients, saffron, and perfectly cooked rice. Each ingredient within the paella is perfectly prepared. Sometimes places use these teeny tiny insignificant shrimp, but Vila Verde uses relatively decent-sized shrimp that taste like shrimp. The scallops are perfectly cooked and melt in your mouth; the chicken falls off the bone. It comes with a lobster tail which, while I personally dislike lobster, I've been told is also delicious. I think the reason for 4 stars and not 5 is simply that the appetizers I've tried were a little boring and plain. Nothing that's bad but nothing that keeps me coming back to it. The decor of the place is a little weird, even though they recently redid it. There is a nursing home behind the place and it would appear that they probably shared a decorator. Definitely not a deal breaker, but you'd think the place could be a little more attractive. For a few drinks and the best paella I've had to date, this place is a winner. read more
