My wife and I had an early Sunny dinner at this eatery not knowing that it was National Margarita Day. The place was already filling up in preparation for what was going to be a very busy evening. The DJ was already blasting away which when trying to dine in peace was a slight issue, lol. Thank God for our waitress Michelle who helped us navigate the blasting music and the extensive menu. Great service makes a difference and we appreciated her taking these two "most senior citizens" under her wing. We started with the chips and salsa. The latter of which was homemade and off the proverbial charts. The chips were also perfect, fresh, slightly salty and up to the task of scooping the delicious salsa. For our entree I had the Salsa Verde Chili which was spot on, nicely spiced and escorted by rice and refried beans. Absolutely amazing. My significant other had the Chicken Burrito which was huge and filled with fresh ingredients. My wife enjoyed this and the side Guacamole (freshly made), and was pleased to have the leftovers for lunch the next day. I really enjoyed the shrimp taco and birria taco with dipping sauce that I had, and also the free chips (that seem freshly made) and salsa. Today was our first visit to this newish place. My son and I went for LUNCH as I hear it is a club at night. We do not go clubbing so this review is just for the food and vibe of lunch. The building was nice and open and very empty. It was decorated well and has a nice outside seating area. We were seated right away. Pro's: Fast Seating. Chips were outstanding, Fajitas were very good, waitress was on the ball with most things. Sons lunch was very good. Cheese dip very good. Prices were very good. Music wasn't too loud which is a good thing. At Senor Tequila I can barely hear myself think it is so loud, so this was refreshing to be able to talk at lunch. Cons: The Salsa was not great. I wasn't a huge fan. It wasn't terrible but just doesn't compare to anywhere else around Charleston. The Waiter kept trying to take our food before we were finished. I must have gone through ten napkins because every time I'd take one out he'd come snatch it up. He had an obsession with stopping by while we were eating to clean the table and literally tried to take our half eaten food or chips just because we were taking a respite from eating. He never refilled my drink but did refill my sons. The drinks took forever to come out and we had to ask twice for the cheese dip. Took about 10 minutes to get it and there really were not any other customers. Overall it has great food and the service was great but they could back off in some areas and pick it up in others. Honestly the Waiter seemed like he probably learned at a 5 star hotel where the rich and famous frequent. He was good but maybe needs to relax just a smidge. We southern folk like to take our time. We'll go back for lunch but probably not dinners since this is technically a club. It was worth it. It was $36 dollars for two people with drinks and cheese dip. I gave him a $50 to keep the change. Expensive these days as ten years ago $50 would have fed four and tipped good. But times are changing. It was less expensive than Senor Tequila which is less expensive than Rio Chico. So we rarely visit Rio Chico anymore. Senor Tequila has been our go to and may still be so because of the Salsa. But I will admit, I loved Villa Cantinas Fajita better. This place is my vibe! Finally, we have a Mexican restaurant in Charleston that plays reggaeton and has more of a modern feel. It's reminiscent of some of the other restaurants I've seen in other cities. We ordered the carne asada and the flavor was on point. It wasn't skirt steak (as carne asada should be), though it doesn't seem like any of the Charleston Mexican restaurants use skirt steak for carne asada. It didn't come with rice, just the beans, lettuce, cheese and frijoles. Had we known, we would've ordered a side of rice. I had the tequila punch. The presentation of it was pretty and the flavor was really good. Prior to getting to the restaurant, my daughter had a big craving for a glass of horchata and she was definitely happy with the horchata at Villa Cantina. The waiter was very attentive and my daughter was so happy to get proactive refills of her horchata. The staff was friendly. The indoor art and decor amplified the experience. Though maybe the lighting should probably be more calmer during lunch/early dinner hours. Its perfect for nighttime though. There's an ample amount of comfy outdoor seating and I can picture myself coming by and sipping on a margarita on a nice sunny day. On a rainy day, there would be good coverage to stay dry too. This was our first visit. We are new to SC, having moved from NY. Our service was excellent from young, very pleasant Michelle who knew the large menu well. The food comes out freshly cooked and steaming hot! The somewhat spicy salsa is homemade and tastes so fresh. The guacamole is yummy, as well as their chips. It was a big win for us. We look forward to dining at their Summerville restaurant now, closer to us, and trying more deliciously prepared menu items. read more

The music is pretty loud so my friend and I were having to speak semi loud to hear each other and our waiter. You would think that this place is a club from the amount of loud music coming from the patio at all hours and it turns out it is! I went there for happy hour and luckily enough they have happy hour seven days a week with great margarita specials but nothing For food. We ended up getting a couple of appetizers and definitely nothing to write home about. This place is more of a vibe for drinking and if you're into clubbing, this would be a great place when the sun goes down. It has a full bar with indoor outdoor seating And a covered patio. 1st time visiting this restaurant and it was a great experience. We sat inside, but the patio setup is really nice, and has access to an outside bar. It happened to be karaoke night and it was a great vibe. Families, birthday groups, toddlers to elderly were having a good time. The service was excellent. Our first time visiting this restaurant. We walked in and they had a soccer game on with the sound turned up so high you could not talk to each other. We had to to yell at our waiter to get our order taken. Our waiter got our drink orders wrong. He came back to our table about 45 minutes later and asked if we were ready for our check. I said I would be if we had any food before we did. He actually asked us if we wanted our check before he even brought the food out. I finally ran him down about 15 minutes later and said where is our food. He wrote it right back and my wife's is almost cold. It took forever to get our check, and To Go box for our food. It's the first time in my life that I've ever left a zero tip for a waiter. I usually tip 20% plus. Don't go here. It's a waste of your time. read more

I will go back again and again for the Pork Carnita dish. I will eat one there and bring one home for breakfast the next day (as we did when we visited and it is worth it). The table chips delicious and the salsa brings the heat, but good flavor as well. The Flautas were so so - chicken was too much and too dry. The biggest downside was the margaritas - he had regular and I had cranberry (I think) but, sadly, they both tasted the same, and really not very good. I had a hot, fresh, and tasty fried Chimichanga with beans and rice, while my date had their delicious burrito bowl. The staff were very friendly. Lively good music that makes you move to the beat. This place is new, so I had to try it. After all I can hear the music from a nearby friends house. I thought this would be a Mexican restaurant but it's a club that serves Mexican food when it isn't being a club and if you're looking for a Latin club in West Ashley this might be exactly what you're looking for! I however was a bit disappointed. The happy hour only has margaritas no food, it is 7 days a week and is $7 margaritas from 4-7. The food is okay, nothing to write home about. The asada was poorly seasoned it tasted more like ground beef. I sat at the bar and the smell of fabuloso cleaner was overpowering but at least we know it's clean. It's got a great outdoor space but the music is so loud you can't have a conversation. The service was okay. I think we were trying to be friendly because it's my friends neighborhood but it didn't really feel reciprocated. Overall I feel like this place is still trying to figure out what it is, and it's not going to win any culinary awards but it's easy and quick and the cocktails are delicious. read more

The place is more club than restaurant. Kinda weird to be open for lunch and the music is pumping like it's Saturday night. We walked in and sat at the bar. September 2025: one of the few hispanic clubs in the area, i am greatly disappointed but not surprised. I was taken aback when the cover for a Saturday night was 20$; considering there are no other clubs within walking distance, unlike downtown. The women at the door were extremely rude and dismissive. when i asked questions about the flyers on their instagram page. There was no special event going on that night. I was charged 3$ for a water bottle after i had purchased multiple shots. Most clubs ive gone to provide a free water cup. The bathroom was not dirty when i attended. however i am GREATLY DISAPPOINTED after i confronted the security personnel about getting sexually assaulted at this establishment. After I told , the hispanic security guard about BEING SEXUALLY ASSAULTED. he responded with, "you all were drunk" while shrugging his shoulders. We've been a few times and it's hit or miss. We went in for an early afternoon meal and the food and drinks were great. Went for a Monday night dinner with friends and the food was just ok but the service was horrible. The last time we went the food was good but the music was so incredibly loud that we had to put headphones on the baby at 6pm. Villa Cantina in West Ashley is in a great location off of Sam Rittenberg. Definitely a happening vibe here at this location music is going and several TVs around the bar area and a big screen on one side of the restaurant. The staff here are on point and very friendly!! The food for our first time was fabulous we started with queso dip for the complimentary chips and dip, yum!! Our entrees were the mixed chicken and beef fajitas for one, then the chicken chimichangas and finally the beef chimichangas. Wow the entrees were excellent everyone thought they were very flavorful and delicious!! Villa Cantina was a great experience all the way around and it deserves 5 Stars !! read more

Do not eat here!!!! My wife got food poisoning!!!! We stopped in here for a late lunch. It seems they are more interested in being a nightclub rather than a restaurant. I used to be an engineer in the food industry. Since I know commercial Mexican food very well, I had hoped with all the renovating they were doing, they would put the same amount of effort in the food. The staff were not really interested. They spent most of the time looking out the windows. They came with the obligatory chips and salsa, the salsa was canned, and the chips were not fresh made. We also asked for a Queso, which came after a while, but it was barely warm, and canned. I ordered a burrito, and my wife ordered mixed Fajitas For One, which is supposed to be both chicken and steak. The first plate of the Fajitas For One was all chicken and a huge mound, which seems an odd amount considering the "For One" part. She noticed quickly that it was just chicken on the grill plate, no steak. I asked someone to get our waiter, and he didn't seem to understand what I was talking about, but took it back. After a short amount of time, they brought out another grill plate and it had beef on the plate, which my wife thought was steak just finely chopped. She had her Fajitas, while my Burritos were just OK. Canned cheese all over them, with a mountain of shredded lettuce on top, and a slice of tomato. I noticed the "steak" in my burritos was not steak. I asked to look at hers, and it was the same thing. What they called "steak" is actually called "trim" in the food industry. When a beef cow is processed, they take off the cuts used to go to the stores, then they have a person who goes over the carcass and cuts off all the small bits left over. These bits are small and have lots of connective tissue. While they are fine to eat, they are not "Steak:. But these get roughly ground up and packaged into large tightly stuffed packs sold cheaply for this very purpose. A little while into our meal, my wife started not feeling well. She thought it might be something else wrong, and we decided to go, but she wanted to take the fajita dish home. We put the food into the fridge as soon as we got home. My wife spent until the next day feeling very bad, and was having lots of issues. It seemed to clear up the next day, and that afternoon, she felt better, and she thought she should eat something. She reheated some of the fajita mix from the day before, and within a short amount of time, she got sick again. After having nothing in two days except the food from this place. read more

We both had a margarita which were excellent and they include an extra shot in a small tube during their grand opening phase. The bartenders and staff were very friendly as we sat at the large bar which had a nice ambiance which also had an outside seating portion. The place looks beautiful and must be a lot of fun on a Friday and Saturday night, but it should be considered a public HAZARD and NUISANCE due to noise pollution. I spoke with the security officers and the owner outside the building about the driving pounding base coming 3/10 of a mile into my home. Me and my five-year-old grandchild cannot sleep. The drinks are wonderful and were prepared by the nicest girl from Jamaica! We sat at the outside bar area which was great! We didn't go inside but could see the decor, which was not my taste. Very neon and bright lights and rather loud. Little did we know, the decor and sound were due to the restaurant turning into a bar after 10 - if this is your thing then you will love it. And although the bar scene is not what I enjoy, I will 100% go back for the cocktails alone! I'll just sit outside and go before 10! I have to score it a 3 star just because of the concept. I couldn't get past the bad feng shui, decor, music that drowned out dinner conversation, and all the airbrushed neon colors. When we walked in, the first thing out of my mouth was, "Is this group out of Miami? My hands were flapping before we got to a table. I don't recall the food being good or bad (although the cheese dip was room temperature and gloppy) because I was instantly in sensory overload. The entire inside experience felt like the restaurant was an obligation, and they live for Friday and Saturday nights. It was as if the restaurant patrons were being "tolerated." I get what they were trying to do--maximize the space to double as a nightclub after dinner on the weekends--but I couldn't stop reacting to the environment. It was an AuDHd nightmare. If you are aware that you are easily overwhelmed, try sitting outside. It's way more aesthetically pleasing, but know that they keep the dance music pumpin' and at volume. If it's Friday or Saturday evening-- go somewhere else-- they will rush you out to get the party started at 8:30. read more

This place is so horribly loud..i tried to get something good to eat, but the waitress couldn't even hear me say what I wanted. It was so loud. I can't believe that this place just blairs their music with no regard to human life. The people that work here must actually be insane to think that music playing this loud is enjoyable. I highly doubt that this place will stay open for a very long time at all. There is an apartment complex right next door to this place, and I can't imagine having to live there and listen to this music all day and night. How rude! I can't fathom having to deal with that. They have to stop with the ridiculously loud music. It's very disruptive. The food was okay. I imagine it could maybe taste better if I could actually hear myself think.
