However, my thoughts on the true quality of a good experience are how the staff and team manage the expectation. The "snug" room we were assigned at check in was too small for two guest in my opinion. The staff was able to move us to a different room for the remained of our 4 day stay. I offered to pay the difference and they declined - a nice gesture but not required on their part. Also, each and every encounter with a staff member either from the hotel, coffee shop, or restaurant was extremely pleasant. It's easy to say they were all just nice people (a big compliment in my opinion). I would come back to The Hoxton and recommend it to friends planning a trip to Portland. The hotel management was excellent too, very approachable. Overall we had a great stay which made our trip even more enjoyable.

Our room was standard king, narrow and long, not the super spacious one but good enough. Staff were polite and efficient. The hotel is very clean, dated , but it was kept up. The lobby felt grand with various sections of seatings allow you to enough for different companies or for different events. Price is on the higher side. But still good. No drama, no confusion, just keys in hand and off you go. The building itself has that great old Portland movie-era charm. It feels like the kind of place where a film star from the 1940s might walk around the corner at any moment looking for a martini. Instead it's usually just me looking for the elevator, but still... the vibe is excellent. Parking is on the next block over and surprisingly easy, which in Portland counts as a minor miracle. I've spent more time looking for parking at grocery stores. Now let's talk about the Driftwood Bar. Do not skip it. Curt the bartender is the kind of guy who makes you want to cancel your plans and just sit there all evening solving the world's problems over a well-made drink. Friendly, funny, and he actually knows how to make a proper cocktail. I wish I had more time to just saddle up to the bar and chat with him. Breakfast at Gracie's was also great. Our waitress Erin took care of us Wednesday morning when the place was mostly empty. Service was friendly, the food looked like someone actually cared when they put it on the plate, and the prices were totally reasonable. No $38 "artisanal avocado toast with existential despair." Just good breakfast done right. So what more do you want? Comfortable clean bed, reasonable prices, great bar, solid breakfast, and you're right in the heart of Portland. If you're staying in the city and want a hotel with character instead of a bland corporate sleep box, Hotel Deluxe is the move. I'll definitely be back...

Home base for 3 nights while I was in town for a friend's wedding…read more I've been coming to PDX for nearly 9 years now, but this was my first time staying downtown. I've always stayed with a friend who lives outside of town. My stay here was enjoyable. Most notably, the bed was super comfortable and soft. I slept so well. The blackout curtains was a nice touch. The weather didn't permit for early morning activities so I always slept in. I took one star for a couple of reasons. First being that I tried to check in about an hour before the 4pm checkin time thinking it would be accommodated, but alas that was not the case. I checked in my luggage and walked across the bridge and got a much needed caffeinated beverage. I got back under an hour and was finally able to get in my room. The room was clean, but not even 5 mins into me unpacking, housekeeping was at my front door asking if I had found anything in the drawer. There was in fact the previous guest's clothing in 2 of the drawers. So yeah, that was off putting. The second thing is that there was in fact no tea in my room. It would've been nice to have it at night when it was colder. Pros: I appreciated that the bathroom had all the products needed which was perfect since I forgot to bring shampoo. Also not a fan of the daily charge for the amenities. Personally, I think only the guests who use the fitness facilities should be charged said fees. It feels like highway robbery to be charged $29 daily when you don't use the gym. What if I was here a full week? That's bonkers. I got to use the gym the day I checked out. This area was dramatically quieter than the other side of the bridge. That's where the riff raffery was. It always felt so relaxing as soon as I entered the front door. As soon as I got to my room, it was silence. The Providence Park tram stop is just 2 mins away on foot. This means you can take the red line to the airport ins of taking an uber. I made sure to have breakfast at Gracie's and a nightcap at Driftwood, both on the opposite side of reception.

The soaps in the showers were top quality and smelled lovely - Rooms were very quiet and the whole hotel had a luxurious feel. - The staff were INCREDIBLE! Special shout out to the front desk staff who helped out immensely. We did have to change rooms in the middle (our reservation, not the hotel's fault) and they made it seamless. - Extra special shout out to Richie in the valet service. All of the valet guys were incredible, quick and kind. - The food in the restaurant for breakfast and dinner was delicious and relatively affordable for the quality. - Wine hour (free wine from 5-6pm) was a nice touch to get our evenings going in the right direction. The wine wasn't the best but I can't complain about free wine and appetizers. - Our only criticism was the lack of water stations on the hotel floors. Not sure if we couldn't find them - they did have ice machines - but we did have to go back to the lobby and into the fitness room to fill our bottles. Not a bad thing, just a little inconvenient. Overall, an excellent stay and would recommend this location greatly!

Over the 4th of July weekend, we decided to take a staycation since we wanted some much needed R&R…read morewithout the hassle of travel. We chose the Duniway for its convenient location and 4 star rating. Upon arrival, we temporarily parked in front of the hotel to check in.  The parking garage is next door and is $35 per night (as of July 2026).  Your room key will also be your ticket for self-parking and allows you to enter and exit throughout the day as well. Just remember to keep one key when you check out, so you can get out of the garage. After parking, you will take an elevator to the hotel lobby. The lobby area was quite nice, it was well decorated and full of comfy seating. The open space makes the froont desk, bar and the restaurant all easily visible from the front desk. Then we made it to our room. We got upgraded to a corner king bed room and it was quite spacious. It has everything you'll need, like a coffee machine, hair dryer, a good sized TV, an ironing board and soft bath robes. The bed was large and comfortable, and the black out curtains kept the room dark for sleeping. Since we were close to the heart of the Portland's downtown, there was some noise at night. Overall, it wasn't bad. Another perk of the Duniway is its location. It is about 5 blocks away from the waterfront, and we had no problem watching the fireworks and getting away from the crowds once they finished. It was nice to walk everywhere without worrying about parking and traffic.    We had one breakfast and one dinner in Mayfield and enjoyed our food. The food was delicious and the prices were reasonable. Though there were many food choices within walking distance, it's great to have options right at the hotel, especially with the food and beverage credits offered via AMEX. Overall, we enjoyed our stay. There were a few things we wish could be better, such as sound insulation between the rooms, the empty conditioner bottle in the shower and lack of hot tub in the pool area. However, the room was clean and comfortable, the staff was friendly., and the location is very convenient. We felt very taken care of and would like to return for another staycation.

We booked with them for a belated 1 year anniversary celebration and it's part of the Amex FHR. There was great communication beforehand, they messaged a few times before our stay communicating their excitement for us. Location is amazing, walking distance from a lot of shopping. I like their garage, it's 35 dollars a day and you get in and out with your room key. The hotel itself is really pretty, lots of woods and warm decor throughout. What I didn't like was the lack of customer service. We checked in around midnight on a Tuesday and front desk seemed almost annoyed at us being there. For a more upscale hotel I'd expect more pleasant interaction. My friend who checked in the next day also had a similar experience. She handed us the paper explaining the Amex benefits but did not review with us. Also, when we checked we were told we'd have a city view, however the keypad to our door wasn't working to we had to go back to the front desk with our luggage, get a new room, bring the luggage to the new without a new room without much apology. The rooms our pretty but our room had paint chipping and the headboards were damaged. Again, not something I'd expect from an upscale hotel. Went down for coffee the next day and again, the service was appropriate but not pleasant. The employee just kind of stood there and waited for me to order without a greeting or a good morning. I enjoyed pool, it's simple and indoors, there are no recliners by the pool. The patio area is right outside with lots of places to hangout and a giant chest set. The fitness center is open 24 hours and has a peloton that I wanted to use. Be mindful if you're ok the 11th floor you're gonna be smelling chlorine anytime you walk out the elevator. The only good interaction i had with a staff member was with Victoria one morning at the front desk. I had some questions about the Amex and gold member credits and she was so helpful and patient. Shout out to Victoria. It's not a bad hotel but I wanted more for the price we paid, honestly next time we may just stay at the Hilton across the street for a cheaper price and maybe enjoy the lobby happy hour at Duniway if we choose to.
