    Falafel and beef shawarma
    Ber B.

Used to go villa madina. But the location at square one gives smaller portions than their other location. The rice was just a quarter of the place. The beef was lightly spread over the rice. But price remains the same. Taste is just ok. Falafel was moist inside. Good crust. Beef shawarma was dry and taste was blend.

Have you ever had a moment when you were standing in line and instantly regretted going to a takeout food court vendor, but still had to commit to it anyway? My experience at Villa Madina was like that. Let me start with the obvious. The staff needs to work on cleanliness. Yes, I understand that the unruly Lebanese family with five people showed up demanding all sorts of extras to their food. Fine, nature of the beast. When the father is sliding his five-year-old daughter along the counter and letting her touch trays - the same trays people are picking up and taking with them, mind you - you need to wipe that down with Lysol or something. Were I not under the clock and on my way to another destination, I would have easily walked then and there. Unfortunately, I had to commit and once again found myself overpaying for something that underdelivered. I went for the beef-and-chicken shawarma plate ($10). You can't really screw a dish like that up, and the quality was suitably decent. Like others have said, I seem to recall their portion sizes being bigger in the past, but maybe it was because I was ordering to go. They just ladled some beef and chicken on top and called it a day. The place was a zoo with a lineup quickly forming behind me, so I just told them to put "everything" on it. Perhaps that wasn't the right idea, because they seemed to skimp on half the extras. I would almost contend that there's a bit of favoritism going on, because the aforementioned family in front of me were asking for extra salad, vegetables, everything. The spicy rice I ordered did have a suitable kick, which was a nice surprise for a chain restaurant. The rest of the food was a bit dry, and I wished they'd thrown in more tzatziki or something to balance it out. For the price I paid (almost $15 after taxes for the dish and a drink), I doubt I'll be back to Villa Madina again. Lackluster quality, possible sanitary issues and dry food add up to a frustrating and underwhelming experience.

I ordered a spicy mixed shawarma wrap with chicken and beef. The beef was dry and full of fat. Also, they forgot to add hot sauce.

I tried a variety of the meats and they were cooked to perfection--tender, flavorful, and well balanced with just the right spices and sauces. Nothing was dry, which made every bite enjoyable. They also offer traditional desserts like Om Ali, knefe, and rice pudding. If you want a more relaxed café vibe afterward, there's a café in the same parking lot run by the same owners with very comfortable seating and even a prayer room. I remember looking over and thinking, "What is this place that's so full of life?" It was bustling with people and had such a great energy. I had never tried Egyptian food before, but I was feeling a little adventurous. I'm really glad I did. A few dishes were recommended, but I was told the Koshari is beloved in Egypt, so that's what I ordered. Be prepared for a bit of a carb coma, but it's absolutely worth it. It was delicious. The mix of pasta, rice, lentils, chickpeas, and crispy fried onions worked surprisingly well together, especially with the sauces they give you. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in Toronto.

We didn't have to wait long before the food was served. The chicken came off the bone so easily, and it was nicely seasoned as well. Considering the prices, I felt the amount you received was too small. I don't mind paying more for quality food, but when you're spending a decent amount of money, you expect a more reasonable portion of the main protein. The service was also hit-or-miss. Sometimes it was fine, and other times it left a lot to be desired. Between the inconsistent service and the small portions, we eventually stopped going there. I know I'm not the only one who felt this way, as I've heard similar complaints from others regarding the portion sizes. That said, I want to be fair and mention that I haven't ordered from them in the past two years, so things may have changed since my last visit. The food itself was always flavorful, and I hope they've addressed some of these concerns because the quality of the food was never the issue.

When we had first walked-in, we were surprised to see how small the restaurant was. However, we then noticed that most of the guests were doing take-out as opposed to dine-in. We were able to find a table for four, which was perfect for us. When we walked-up to the front counter to place our order, we were greeted by a kind hostess, whom took our orders without any issue. We then sat down, and watched as our orders were being prepared. We had to wait about fifteen minutes for all of our meals to be ready. We were surprised to see that the margarita pizza had olives on it, despite not seeing it on the menu. However, we just scooped them off since my children didn't want to eat the olives. For the falafel and kabab wraps, we were surprised to see how large they were, and for only $10.00! The kabab wrap (which I had asked for without onions), had two large pieces of kabab, which filled the wrap, along with the sumac and tomatoes. I enjoyed how tasty the wrap tasted, along with how filling it was. My mother also commented on how delicious the falafel tasted. Considering the prices that we had paid, we certainly go our money's worth! The service was also excellent, as we were brought our wraps directly to our table, while the pizza was placed on the table near to our table. Everyone was kind and considerate, making our stay a pleasant one. There were so many menu items to choose from, it was hard to narrow it down. Will definitely be back to try other items the next time around!

Draws in crowds at times. Food is prepped in front of you. Area is clean. Toppings are generous, as are the staff. The washroom is also clean and adjacent to the checkout counter.

Please take my review into consideration knowing that I haven't been there in at least 15 years…read more That said, I feel like I owe this restaurant a review because it was such a big part of my life and holds so many wonderful memories for me. When I moved to Canada in 1995, this restaurant was within walking distance of my sister's apartment, so we ate there all the time. Back then, if I remember correctly, they had a buffet for around $15 per person, and it was an incredible value. The food was always fresh, delicious, and plentiful. This restaurant became part of many chapters of my life. When I got married, I brought my husband and his family there because I wanted them to experience the food I loved so much. Later, when I had my children, it became one of the places we would visit whenever we were in Mississauga. At one point, we even lived in Mississauga for about a year and a half, and if we couldn't make it to the restaurant, we would order takeout instead. The amazing thing was that the food was just as delicious at home as it was in the restaurant. The restaurant itself wasn't huge or fancy. It was simple, comfortable, and focused on what mattered most--the food. The staff were always welcoming, and everything seemed to run smoothly. To this day, the lentil soup and the kibbeh are stuck in my head. I honestly think they were some of the best I've ever had in my life. Sadly, I can't enjoy the kibbeh anymore because I have celiac disease and have to avoid gluten, but those flavors are still some of my favorite food memories. I also remember that the mother of the family was involved in the cooking. Whether she is still there, retired, or if the ownership has changed, I honestly don't know. Because it has been so many years since my last visit, I can't speak to how the restaurant is today. What I can say is that the memories I have of this place are wonderful. The food was excellent, the service was great, and it became one of those special restaurants that stayed with me throughout the years. The next time I'm in Mississauga, I plan to stop by and see if the food is still as amazing as I remember. If it is, I know I'll be leaving with a huge smile and a full heart.
