We REALLY wanted to like Villa Serena... given the outstanding reviews, mixed in with many mediocre reviews, and some just plain bad reviews. We went with an open mind, hoping for the best! Decent ambiance, with the swimming pool in the middle of the restaurant, from its prior life as the diner for a trailer park community... Karen was our server, she did a decent job, but after waiting an hour for our entrees, she approached the table saying there was some miscomm... not sure if it was the iPad ordering device, or she just blew it, after 20 minutes she should have inquired of the kitchen. We were only one of 5-7 tables in the entire restaurant, so it wasn't like it was packed or she was busy. I get the whole "slow paced" meal concept, but this was neglect, not slow paced. Just want to offer an observation about the cats... there are lots of them there. We not "cat people" but cats are OK... but when they are pawing at your legs and arms while you're trying to eat, that's a bit much. Cats = turn off x10. We started the meal with a margarita and the chips, salsa, pico de gallo and guacamole... all were very good! The chips were small, perfect for dipping into the condiments. We also ordered a bottled water, which set us back almost $3 USD... it was CostCo bottled water... what a mark up! Very disappointed in what was supposed to be one of the "gems of Cabo." Looking back, we should have stopped the meal here, it may have been 4 stars! For entrees we ordered the seafood combination and the "Sunday special" paella... the seafood combo was overly fishy, old seafood the most likely culprit. Too much garlic, which did not put a dent in the fishy taste. The paella was an interesting combination of everything in the kitchen, some seafood, chicken, short ribs (we think) and other ingredients we could not identify. The shrimp in the paella was dry and powdery, not sure how you cook shrimp to get that consistency, but it was not good. Overall, the flavor of both dishes was very disappointing! The finale was a slice of key lime pie, and "birthday treat" for which we were charged $7 USD... it wasn't so much the charge that was bothersome, it just didn't taste good. A very sub-par ending to a sub-par meal. For all the hype, we won't be going back. The prices are reasonable, but the quality is simply lacking. Cannot recommend Villa Serena! read more

I went for both breakfast and dinner. Service was amazing. I had the lobster hash for breakfast which I'd pass on. It was expensive and just not filling. The chilaquiles were delicious. Coffee and fresh baked cinnamon rolls were delicious. Dinner was ribeye and lobster. Ribeye was amazing but the lobster was over cooked and chewy. Enchiladas were absolutely delicious. Cheesecake was really creamy. The view is amazing but you cannot see the sunset from there. It is beautiful and very relaxing. I would recommend and try something else. Truly a great dinner. We went assuming from a friend that we might get a thanksgiving dinner. But not the case snd we couldn't have been happier. Great service and better food in a safe protocol following restaurant. The sunset view was amazing, but out done by the best guacamole I've ever had. Our server was Cico.... just great. Last night had the most amazing dinner next-door to our resort. Villa Serena. This place is a hidden gem. It had the best service, amazing tequilas, and Mezcal, the food was off the charts. The tuna tartare we had was better than any we had even in Hawaii. I asked if we could meet the Chef and this beautiful young lady came out! Wow! She's the best!! We heard about this place through some locals so we figured we try it out. Our hotel is downtown so it was a short 10 minute ride in an UBER. It was night time so we couldn't see the nice views we heard about. We reserved a table just in case it was busy on a saturday which is wasn't so it was nice getting right in. There was a guy playing the piano which was nice and he was actually pretty good. We ordered the chips that came with salsa, guacamole, pico de gallo, asparagus appetizer and the tortilla soup to start. The salsa was very tasty with a roasted flavor to it, the guacamole and pico was very fresh and great flavor. The tortilla soup was one of the best I've ever had. The flavor was perfect, and plenty of chips in it. For our meals we ordered the Filet and lobster and the lamb chops and lobster, which came with a baked potato. The filet and lamb chops were cooked perfectly (med rare) and tased perfect. The lobsters were cooked perfect as well and with the butter tasted great. The baked potato has cheese on melted on it and was delicious. Who doesn't like cheese. We barely had enough room for dessert but we ordered the chocolate souffle which was very yummy and melted in your mouth. Watch out for the cats that roam the area and beg for food. I would give the place a 5 star but the only problem was that the food came out just warm and not hot. OK I have mixed feelings but I'm gonna give this four stars for the whole experience. The ambience of this place is beyond cool. They had an amazing piano player, the view is beautiful, the strung up lights, make it very rustic and romantic at the same time. There are wild cats running all around so if you're a cat person like me it's a little slice of heaven. I realize cats aren't for everybody so if you hate cats you might not want to come to this restaurant. The service was a bit slow and I would say 50-50 on the food. Some of the meals were decent and some of them or just plain bad. Mine was one of the bad ones... I had the steak tampequina and it was thin and dried out. The steak nachos were also dry and not very good. The enchiladas were very authentic and the ribeye was decent. The food was good, the atmosphere was great, I just wish we'd had better service. The atmosphere can't be beat, really. The main level by the bar and the next one down are completely open to the elements (with a solid roof of course) and very breezy. It was extremely comfortable. The only complaint I have is that we were seated and asked about drinks with no menu. We just said, margaritas, and then sat there and had to ask a waiter for a menu. At some point silverware came. They didn't even seem that busy. Either way, we spent the time looking at luxury yachts floating by in the ocean. I'd recommend checking this place out if only for the view. Oh, watch your GPS. Ours wanted us to go in the Villa Serena hotel area but the turn is a dirt road before that. You don't need a reservation. If you miss the turn you have to take the retorno and go all the way around. My saddest moment in this year's Mexico trip. I sat in the old parking lot and watched a tractor tear down the last of the restaurant building. Los Cabos may offer Michelin Stars, but the soul of the place has fled. Lobster tacos while watching kids frolic in the restaurant pool, beautiful music from local artists looking out over the Pacific. An old Baja vibe that once gone will never return. We went in for a pre-Christmas dinner on Dec. 22nd. The atmosphere is open air and very comfortable. There was a live pianist playing Christmas music. The service was friendly. The Mango Margarita was perfectly blended. Our chicken quesadilla appetizer was served with refried beans and guacamole. The refried beans with a hint of bacon flavor were the best I've had in Cabo. The Taco Loco with chopped steak was served with beans and guac. and perfectly spiced. The chicken enchiladas are served with rice and beans and covered with a slice of avocado and sour cream. The sauce was flavorful. Had we known that we would get complimentary chips and salsa we might have skipped the quesadilla because it added up to a lot of food. The restaurant is very laid back with a nice view of the Sea of Cortez. The prices were fair and there was no upselling. Possibly the only negative was that there were several cats milling around. After 12+ trips to Cabo, this was somehow the first time we ate at Villa Serena and Puerta Vieja (same owners and both excellent)! Our server Pablo recognized us two nights later at Puerta Vieja! Food was delicious - between the two restaurants we had the filet, NY, lobster, shrimp, shrimp cocktail, crabcakes, caesar salad, beet salad and chicken enchiladas and even the carrot cake. I would recommend it all! Service is Mexican speed but they are attentive, just know you are not in the states so sense of urgency is a bit slower. We will definitely go back. We couldn't decide between the two restaurants which ambiance we preferred. Villa Serena had live music and felt more authentic mexican but Puerta Vieja was smaller, nice open windows and very quaint and calm. Both had great views! read more

Villa Serena does not disappoint!! We've been visiting Cabo San Lucas for the last 8 years (minus the year of Covid) and we always have dinner at Villa Serena. This trip dined in two times... the second time we arrived after 9:30pm and while every other restaurant stopped serving dinner at 9pm Villa Serena accommodated us. We ordered the Seafood Enchiladas, Seafood Combo, Ribeye Steak and a side of Coconut Shrimp. This food was soooo delicious!! We didn't finish eating until almost 11pm... even though it was an hour and half passed their closing time the staff catered to us and never made us feel rushed... THANK YOU! The view here is great in the dark with the cruise ships going by. Because of the way the horizon works, it looks like they are floating in the air above the hotels, like giant space ships. Love this place. This has been a must visit on every trip to Cabo over the past 20 years. Don't think you made a wrong turn. Just follow the dirt road about .25 miles from the main road (there is a Y - bear left). Try to arrive before dark as the view is really nice. Service is always outstanding. All seating is outdoors although some are under the roof so don't let showers keep you away. If you are there in winter, it can be chilly. Worry not, they will provide serapes to wrap over shoulders. The lobster special is a great buy and very nicely prepared. Steaks are excellent too. We went back for breakfast this last trip and it was really great. Cocktails are very well done and reasonable. 20 years ago this was the club for a trailer community. That is why there is a swimming pool in the dining area. The trailers are gone and the surrounding property is subdivided with higher end homes being built. A lovely evening, afternoon or breakfast awaits. Don't miss it! read more

We have been coming to the restaurant for over 20 years and it is one of our absolute favorite places. The ambiance is absolutely incredible and is a great place to watch sunrise/sunset. The food is amazing. The coconut shrimp is the best we've found in Cabo! They have a new chef named Andrea who has been experimenting with the menu. She is INCREDIBLE!! What a beautiful place tucked away off the highway. It is quaint, but quite spacious. They have a pool like feature in the restaurant which seems like a pool. Nice small bar and lots of tables. The style is Mexican like wicker chairs , rattan and leather. Very casual and welcoming. Great margaritas and killer lobster specials. Big shrimp, bean and rice, see the pics I posted. Went last night and loved the experience. The food was good, waitress was great and sitting outside was magical. They also have a great playground, which we did not know about but ended up being great for the 3 kids with us. All around, loved it and will go back. This place doesn't look like much from the outside but it exceeded my expectations. This gem is hidden on a lonely road off the main high way but is definitely worth checking out. The seafood is their specialty; I had the 19.99 lobster special. This includes 2 medium size lobster tails, butter, sautéed vegetables and rice. The lobster was PHENOMENAL. We also started with the tortilla soup and clam chowder. The tortilla soup was average but the clam chowder was divine and came in a bread bowl. The best part of it all was the margaritas. We ordered the medium spicy margaritas and they were the strongest drinks I've had since being in Cabo. Service could use work, plenty of staff and quick to seat, but menus aren't delivered timely, drinks were slow to be refilled (unless it's a cocktail) and after boxing leftovers, waited quite a while to get our check. BIG downfall; They need better lighting for dinner. Love the romantic ambience, but the lights are soooo dim multiple tables were using cell phone flashlights to look at the menu. Also, when your dinner is served, it is very difficult to see the presentation as well as know what you were eating unless you are inches away from your plate. Stopped here for their Mexican coffee and flan. It was delicious till we got the bill. $87.00 for 3 coffees and 3 flans. When we sat down we were asked if we would like water. We said yes a glass of water. Well, they took the bottle off our table and filled it with water and served it. When we got our bill we had been charged $25 for water. Since we had not been told of this we decided not to leave a tip. We alway tip very well but not this time. We talked to the waiter about the charge and he had no comment. The waiter followed us outside into the parking lot telling us we needed to leave a tip. In the future it would be helpful to be told that they charge for water. Just be aware that they charge alot for their water. read more
