I don't want to take the fumble of Tropical Tours out on what appears to be a charming hotel/restaurant but I did not get a great first impression. We were shuffled off a bus after a tour of the islands on a 90+ degree day, and told we had HALF AN HOUR (there were 35 or 40 or us) to use our drink tickets before the bus would leave. We were not given many choices, just beer, water, soda, maybe wine, I don't fully remember. I selected a beer and picked a seat with my party but I had to use the restroom. We were somewhat crowded into the lobby and patio area, just in time for ANOTHER tour bus to arrive. I made my way through the crowd to the clean ladies' room and came back to finish my beer. It was so crowded I was kind of relieved to get back on the bus. They were selling vanilla bottles and my party bought one. It seems this is a way to make money (or tips) from a tour company with a mini-excursion. I'd go back to see if the food is ok, or to stay, but it's rather out of the way, and there was construction going on, so not much to look at in the area. read more

Stunning view and great service! We ordered the grilled octopus and scallops as appetizers. The scallops were overcooked but the octopus was divine. Grilled with a smoky flavor and served with asparagus and a drizzle of balsamic. The pear salad was lettuce, sliced pears, Gorgonzola cheese, candied nuts, and a nice balsamic dressing. For entrees, we had the grilled ribeye and the catch of the day. The fish came with a lobster tail, shrimp and some scallops with a side of vegetables and mashed cauliflower. The steak came with vegetables and mashed potatoes. Everything was delicious. The only miss was the overcooked scallops (appetizer). The view at sunset is phenomenal. read more

We had a wonderful meal here this evening. We were greeted by live piano music and seated in a nice open area. The food and service was excellent! My favorite items were the pineapple panela, the beet salad, and the flan. All the staff were very cheerful and friendly. It made for a memorable evening. read more

While on vacation in Cabo we came here for lunch. We were the only people there at the time. It's a very nice place- nice ambiance. It's in an open air space so they have fans going. Very cute decor and they had good music playing. It can get a little toasty so choose your dining time wisely. We started with some good chips and salsa. I had tacos and they were delicious. They have a small gated parking lot. Go check them out for a nice view and meal. read more

Puerta Vieja is a fun little place, in a hotel right along the main highway in Cabo. We dined there on a friend's recommendation. When we went there (July 2024), there was a lot of construction going on, not much of a view. The staff told us they're planning to open the new restaurant on the roof in the Fall of 2024. Even with the shades closed, the evening sun made the dining area fairly warm. The service was good, the wine list varied, and the food was very good. The meal proceeded slowly, but each dish was made to order, so no real complaint about the time. All the staff were very knowledgeable about the menu. From cocktails, to wine, appetizers, entrees and dessert everything tasted great. The 4-star rating will likely improve to 5-star if the ambiance/view issue is fixed when the restaurant moves to the roof. They will need some way to keep it cool in the summer though. We'll definitely go back once the move to the roof takes place, but perhaps when it's cooler. Recommend Puerta Vieja. read more

Made dinner reservations, Tuesday night 6 PM, arrived on time, 6:30 PM drink order taken, 7 PM drink water delivered, 8 PM, dinner order taken, 9 PM dinner order delivered, 9:30 PM out the door not sure what anyone's expectations are but a 3 1/2 hour dinner is too long with nothing going on. They were well staffed and it was not busy. I would not recommend this unless you just have time to kill the food was good but not spectacular to make up for the long wait. They apologize for the long wait but made no attempt to do anything about it, as we were leaving, we are greeted in lobby by someone who said we only paid half the bill and that they had made a math mistake and charged us incorrectly Not an easy restaurant to access, park, and the wait times were intolerable read more

Our first night in Cabo and this was within walking distance from our condo so we decided to go. What an amazing meal! The restaurant has great views and we sat by the window and got to see fireworks. It was quiet and the staff were very friendly and accommodating. We ordered the margaritas and they were delicious and fresh. One was plenty for me! My husband got the catch-of-the day which was sea bass and he ordered it al mojo de ajo and it was perfect! The perfect amount of garlic and perfectly cooked. Flaky, tender and melt in your mouth delicious! I ordered the chile rellano which comes stuffed with pulpo, scallops and shrimp. I am allergic to pulpo so I not had the shrimp and scallops and it was an an amazing dinner. The Chile was fresh and not overcooked so still had some crunch and the seafood was fabulous. We haven't been at this place since several years, but went back last night. Minor issue with a transformer busted however we went ahead and ventured into the restaurant. Electricity did come on towards the end of the evening. Overall ambience was great. They had candles lit throughout very much like a Halloween dinner. The beet salad and Caesar salad was absolutely fantastic. Service was exceptional and they were doing everything they could to make the experience an amazing time. My husband & I visited Puerta Vieja at the recommendation of the concierge at our resort. I was looking for a lobster dinner that didn't break the bank and was not disappointed. First, the ambiance was very nice. Rooftop restaurant, nicely decorated with views of the lights of Cabo. An amazing piano player added to the lovely experience. The staff was great, very attentive. We started with a Grand Margarita which was grand in size and flavor. My husband had a Caesar salad in a hard Parmesan cheese bowl. I had a beet salad with creamy goat cheese. We shared a main course of a good sized filet mignon and two medium-sized lobster tails. For dessert we shared a cup of vanilla gelato with berries and chocolate sauce. Everything was delicious and well prepared. The price was moderate compared to similar restaurants in Cabo. We would definitely recommend this restaurant. Our server made us "Mexican Coffee" for dessert at our table, not featured on the menu, but a show in itself and truly delicious. Our table ordered and shared fresh strawberry mojitos to die for, the "Lucia" with taquila/mezcal and fresh passion fruit with a sugar and tajin rim. Ordered the panela cheese and grilled pineapple appetizer with pasilla pepper sauce. Fabulous. The beet salad, with creamy goat cheese and candied pecans on the bottom, layers of roasted beets and topped with salad greens. So good! Our table ordered surf and turf of lobster and New York, white fish catch-of-the-day with lobster and shrimp, coconut shrimp with fish and mushrooms. Everything was five star! The view is gorgeous on an indoor outdoor patio setting. There were plenty of staff however I seemed to have gotten lost as they were not attentive. I waited a long time to order my entree long after an appetizer was finished. The crab cakes were beautifully presented however it did not taste like crab nor but rather texture was like uncooked fish or seafood. The chicken enchiladas were quite ordinary and not at all worth the cost. I would recommend this place only if you are impressed by a view maybe the other items on menu are better, the bar seemed to be quite busy so that's another option. read more

I have eaten here a few times over the years but my last experience will be my last. I took my wife here for our anniversary. She ordered the beet salad and a scallop dish I ordered the clam chowder and a lamb chop with lobster tail. The wife really enjoyed the beet salad and was impressed but when the scallops arrive they were way overcooked almost a leathery texture. She sent them back and was told she should try the shrimp tostadas, they were equally as bad they were drenched in mayonnaise and were unpleasant. My meal was ok it seemed but later that evening I started feeling ill. I spent half the night in the bathroom and the next two days recovering. Extreme headaches vomiting and diarrhea for two days straight. I must say the atmosphere is exquisite and the staff were very attentive. I am very disappointed with the food quality tho. It's hard to pay for a high end meal and tip the staff to end up with this result with no other recourse but to post reviews like this in hopes others can avoid similar experiences and disappointment. read more

First time to Cabo. Looking for a nice place to have dinner - the Puerta Vieja Restaurant sounded intriguing and made reservations. It did not disappoint. We arrived early to have drinks at the rooftop bar. The view of the bay of Cabo San Lucas was incredible. Finished our drinks and proceeded to the dining room for dinner. Our Waiters were very attentive and the food was very good, cooked to perfection. There was live piano music playing while we dined, which made it even more special. The Puerta Vieja Restaurant is a hidden gem and recommend others to give it a try. In my opinion... It is not a place for families with small children but a great date night getaway or with other couples. When I return to Cabo, will definitely include this place as part of the trip. read more

This place has beautiful views of the bay and arch. We went about 30 minutes before sunset and enjoyed a Grand Margarita (recommended)on the upper deck as the sun set, then had dinner in the main dining area. For an appetizer we tried the crab cakes (tasty). We shared the Seafood combo for two as a main course. This included 2 coconut shrimp, 2 grilled garlic shrimp, 2 Lobster, a nice cut of Filet Mignon, and a portion of the catch of the day. The Filet was perfect medium rare and quite tender. In fact everything was delicious. Dinner was served with mashed potatoes and vegetables: asparagus, carrots and zucchini. The seating is comfortable and decor tasteful. While this is not a budget traveller's restaurant, it's not ultra high priced and there is a large selection to choose from. We will definitely return for special occasions. read more

The hotel we visited, Villa del Arco promised a beautiful ocean view to enjoy the sunset and an extraordinary meal - sadly it missed my expectations by a long shot so we only had drinks and appetizers. Vegan option was promised and although not popular in Mexico, the hotel should have made an effort to confirm. The chef made an excellent sashimi and shrimp cocktail and we paired this with a pair of monitors. View: disappointing (see pic). We are too far away from the ocean- stay at the hotel! Chef: made every effort to be accommodating for Vegans even with a very limited selection. read more

Same review I posted for Villa Serena... After 12+ trips to Cabo, this was somehow the first time we ate at Villa Serena and Puerta Vieja (same owners and both excellent)! Our server Pablo recognized us two nights later at Puerta Vieja! Food was delicious - between the two restaurants we had the filet, NY, lobster, shrimp, shrimp cocktail, crabcakes, caesar salad, beet salad and chicken enchiladas and even the carrot cake. I would recommend it all! Service is Mexican speed but they are attentive, just know you are not in the states so sense of urgency is a bit slower. We will definitely go back. We couldn't decide between the two restaurants which ambiance we preferred. Villa Serena had live music and felt more authentic mexican but Puerta Vieja was smaller, nice open windows and very quaint and calm. Both had great views! read more

Super neat place. Food was very good. View is beautiful. Service was professional without being "too much". Water was kept filled without asking. Wine served perfectly. I felt is was a very good value for the quality of food and service. My husband and I each had a glass of wine (heavy pour), soup appetizer and one of the more expensive seafood entrees. Our dinners included fish, lobster tail and jumbo prawns with vegetables and rice. Total check was barely over $100 usd. I plan on going back and trying one of the Mexican dishes. read more

New chef who did the Vegas circuit for while just started here last month. He did an excellent job. Complimentary nopales appetizer in a vinegar sauce was tasty. Rib eye was cooked to perfection and the lobster tails were great. He uses an Italian herb on some dishes that is so delicious. Try the lemon tart or chocolate mousse for dessert. read more

Beautiful restaurant, hand crafted furniture, antique hardware, low lighting just right, amazing views.... We were blown away before we even saw a menu. Wonderful place for celebrating as a couple, family or large group. I cannot say enough about the food, was quality - seasoned and prepared perfectly. After dinner we asked if they could cater a large event the following day and Omar worked with us to make it happen. Highly recommend Filet Mignon, Basil Chicken and enchiladas. My family and I have been coming to Cabo San Lucas for over 10 years now, and every time we make the trip, Puerta Vieja is an absolute must. It has evolved alot over the years, changing from tiny restaurant to restaurant/bar/antique shop with wine tastings and event space upstairs. It always remains charming and well-appointed, and most importantly, the quality of food remains outstanding. I'll preface this by saying: I'm not a seafood person at all. I dislike anything that tastes fishy and the thought of eating shellfish simply isn't appetizing to me at all. The first time we came here, however, whoever recommended Puerta Vieja also told us to order the lobster thermidor. Thankfully, despite my reservations, we entertained this recommendation because it is quite possibly my favorite dish in the world. Year after year, the taste of the dish is consistently perfect - packed with flavor, wonderfully creamy and rich, perfectly textured. Yes, it is that good. Also a plus: they bring out a delightful assortment of pickled vegetables, chips and salsa while you wait for your meal. All wonderful little appetizers, so definitely no need to order anything but the main dish! My one complaint that really only applies to our most recent visit: the service has gone a bit downhill. Our waitress was quite standoffish, left in the middle of taking our drink orders "forgetting" to return until several minutes later, and then brought an entire bottle of wine for the one glass my sister ordered - luckily we were happy to help her drink it, otherwise it would have been a bit ridiculous. She was a bit slow throughout the meal service and proceeded to gossip with one of the bus boys near our table as they were waiting for us to finish our meal, as we were the last ones in the restaurant - I don't even think it was that late, but they probably wanted to close early or something. Anyways, nothing so major that it could ruin my favorite dish. Definitely make a trip out to Puerta Vieja if you're in Cabo and order the lobster thermidor! It really is a lovely spot and the food is absolutely worth the trip. read more

I rarely write reviews, but our experience at this "restaurant" was so poor that I don't want anyone else paying top dollar for such pathetic food like we did. The single star is for the staff - they were pleasant and accommodating. The food deserve zero stars. The food at this restaurant is awful and they should be ashamed of the prices they charge for the quality of food they serve. It's understandable when chefs have an off night and cook a dish incorrectly, but there is absolutely no excuse for using terrible quality ingredients and trying to pass it off as fine dining. The $40 "ribeye and lobster" ($30 steak, $10 lobster) was extremely poor quality - you can see in the photo attached that half the steak was inedible gristle and the meat itself was gamey and chewy. The lobster tail was small and overcooked and I left it uneaten after a small bite. The pasta was doused in heavy cream with defrosted seafood that was still cold. They sell Costco bottled water with the tag on for $1.50 while attempting to disguise themselves as an upscale restaurant. Normally, I would say that you get what you pay for, but these jokers charge close to the same prices as fine dining restaurants like Manta, but give you Olive Garden pasta and Applebee's steak. Please, please save your hard earned money and eat somewhere else instead of being cheated like us. You are better off paying $39 for the excellent prime steak at Manta than $30 for the garbage they sell here read more

I would call this a hidden gem, the sea bass was over the top. Service was excellent.

We came here for a graduation and service was slow but we were in no hurry and we were in a large group. For the food we had a green salad with a ranch dressing. Good overall quality. For the main entree we had a chicken breast with a very tasty mushroom sauce. It did have instant mashed potatoes with it. Big issue was that all of the chicken was way overcooked. I mentioned to my waiter and the manager, Adalis, came by and I said it was overcooked. She said it was baked and that is the way baked chicken is. Even though I tried to help her by explaining cook to Temps she continued that it was baked and it was never overcooked unless it was black which it was not. They did try to make up for it and offered me something else and they did go out of their way to improve our visit which was very good of them. The sunset was gorgeous. The food was ok, but not what you would expect with a bill over $100 for two people. The shrimp were really good, but my fillet was overcooked and lacked flavor. Service was impeccable, they do a great job of keeping your water filled. If you so much as turn your head to look at something, they come running to see what you need. Cute place. Good parking. This place is on the Transpeninsular Hwy 1 between Cabo San Lucas and San Jose Del Cabo. Across Home depot. It has a huge red sign of 2 lobster for $19.95. When I see a sign offering discount lobsters, I'm skeptical of the food quality of these places...We're ushered-in to this old themed Mexican restaurant that looked like from an old elegant hacienda set in the 1930s. The food quality is good and worth it.. The Rib eye steak may be a little chewy. But tastie (Order it to rare or medium rare for softer texture) They start you off with chips and salsa + Nepales plate with cold potato drizzled with olive oil and herb.(really good). We really enjoyed an excellent meal at PV. We had an outstanding seat at sunset with a view of the arch. They opened up the huge window for us so we could experience the balmy Cabo breeze. The authentic Mexican decor is warm and rustic. We ordered two combos: Steak and Lobster and a lamb chop, shrimp and lobster plate. The steak and lamb were both mesquite grilled and the seafood fresh and good. I also ordered a salad that I will be trying to duplicate at home because it was so good: romaine lettuce and blue cheese, wrapped in prosciutto, drizzled with walnuts and a raspberry balsamic dressing. My husband had the lobster chowder in a bread bowl. It was tasty, maybe a little fishy. The music was good too. The guitar player beautifully performed many American classics (Eric Clapton, John Denver, in Spanish. Very pretty. The wait staff was professional, pleasant and informed to make recommendations.
