This is an easy 5 star review. In NYC there are many places to get a BEC sandwich, but so many do…read morenot get it right. Sal's keeps the beacon of goodness and hope alive with their spectacular version. Purist want the BEC on a Kaiser roll, but I prefer mine on a bagel. Some will disparage the bagel choice because many are poorly made where the fillings tend to smoosh out the opposite side of where the eater is taking a bite. When it is done perfectly the bagel, cheese and eggs become one making a cohesive sandwich with the bacon firmly ensconced in that delicious creaminess where everything is just working magically together. The trick here is getting soft folded layers of eggs that are not over cooked. To me Sal's makes the quintessential version. On top of this great New York breakfast classic sandwich, the iced coffee is money as well. Although off the beaten subway path it is worth the bus ride, or more conveniently, car or even still you can risk a criminal summons hopping on a bike.
