Great little grinder shop. I got the Italian classic and it was perfect. Bread was perfect, meat and seasonings fresh. Highly recommended

Bennedito's. (4 stars). "Grinder: A common term in New England, its origin has several possibilities.[27] One theory has the name coming from Italian-American slang for a dock worker, among whom the sandwich was popular.[5] Others say it was called a grinder because it took a lot of chewing to eat the hard crust of the bread used.[28] In Pennsylvania, New York, Delaware, and parts of New England the term grinder usually refers to a hot submarine sandwich (meatball; sausage; etc.), whereas a cold sandwich (e.g., cold cuts) is usually just simply called a "sub".[29]" - https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Submarine_sandwich#Grinder U never forget ur first grindah! My first grinder was devoured in Rhode Island from Red Bridge Tavern many years ago & I have been looking for a place out in Groton for a while. My New England buddies were actually at home for a change so they told me about Bennedito's being a great place to go. My friend & I hopped in the car & decided to make a lunch run. Bennedito's is located a few blocks away from Electric Boat General Dynamics (yes the one that builds submarines)! Without my trusty GPS I would have been lost. Bennedito's is located on a residential street & if u blink, u just might miss it. There are no tables or chairs or any place to dine-in. This is strictly a take-out only establishment. But it's so worth it! There are two guys who work in the kitchen making all grinders to order. I ordered the following: -Italian Combo Italian Combo - $6.50 (Small). (4 stars). What I love about this grinder is the fresh & crunchy bread along with the high quality deli meats that are used. The Italian Combo comes with Capicola, Salami, & Ham. The "Capi" was cured beautifully & had such a deep porky flavor which was finger-licking good! The salami was peppery & garlicky. Very intense flavors that shined through. The Ham was tender & tasty but in all honesty was lost when matched with the other two Italian "heavy-hitters" above. The lettuce was fresh & crisp! I probably should have asked them to melt my cheese as the coldness of the cheese was a bit underwhelming. However, I would go back to Bennedito's the next time I have a wicked bad craving for a tasty grinder. The grinders are approximately 10" in length for the SMALL & packed with fresh ingredients. If we had this same shop in Hawaii I guarantee u it would cost double! --- All in all, I'm glad we came here. It is about a 5 minute drive from base so it's convenient & relatively quick to get a tasty meal. My friend ordered the Meatball grinder & we both really enjoyed it. Unfortunately, we didn't get to eat it until we were back at work so I couldn't take a photo of it. However, the next time I go back I'll definitely get a HOT grinder. Either the Meatball or Eggplant!!

Large ham only $7.00 with tax it's huge and you can't forget a deli pickle to go with it.

It's a bit of a mix of deli, smoothie shop, gourmet grocery, & local gift shop. I can't speak to the deli portion, but I have had the smoothie bowls a few times. I found a mezcal lime sausage & a garlic aioli here, both of which I really enjoyed. One final compliment for Montauk Market - thank you for being open 7 days a week. Very much appreciated. Seriously though this tiny little market is tucked off of Montauck Ave. Street parking is available - which is an easy find off season but I can imagine business will pick up as soon as beach season begins. This place is meant to be a market as there is no seating inside but there is one small table outside - be prepared to grab & go friends! While the menu is small, it is mighty! The portions are substantial and flavorful! I love that I can customize my sub with several options to select from - lots of add ons from veggies to toppings like mayo or humus. There are plenty of drink options from coolers and lots of salty crunchy snacks to make for a perfect meal. Since this is a market you can pick up a few "staples" as well as local products! If you are in the area and want a no frills experience, certainly check this place out. Everyone I've encountered here is super friendly .

We both ordered spaghetti, one with a meatball, one with sausage. The pasta is flat as it would be if house made. However, having lived in Italy, eating many a 'house made' restaurant pasta, and, having made my own, to me this spaghetti does not have the taste or texture I expected from house made. My meatball did taste homemade. However, as is common in the restaurant industry, the texture leads me to believe a big batch is made and frozen for later use. It was tough to cut. A bit rubbery. The sauce was OK, Not delightful. Not bad. All together this was not a dish worth chewing for me personally and I left half of it behind. Seating is available both indoors and outside over looking the river. Parking is available behind the building or about a block away in a free public lot. One restroom for all. Prepared foods available 'to go' at a deli counter by the entrance. The entrance is a few steps up from the sidewalk.
