Food: 4/5 Good soup, and our server brought the sauces we asked for. My husband got the fish and chips and loved them. The eggs Benedict was good but my whites were slightly undercooked. Overall the flavor was good though. I would probably not order breakfast again as I felt the hash brown portion was criminally small. The side of strawberry banana French toast looked a bit slapdash but tasted fine. Service: 4/5 The server was attentive and came by the table several times to check in with us. Ambiance: 4/5 The vibe was low key and they had the pre-game Super Bowl show on. The music was a good volume. The tables, bathrooms, and waiting areas were clean. There was a random chair in the walkway which was weird and it seemed to be a difficulty for an older gentleman who was walking past it. The taste was even more phenomenal than the photo fabulous little cheese, omelette, crispy bacon, fabulous fresh fruit, and the most delightful strawberry crêpe! went to this village inn in derby Kansas and received horrible service. my wife had a 6 week old puppy with us after we took him to see the vet. I checked the front doors and there were no signs saying whether we could bring in a dog. we asked inside and were told it was ok. we sat down and ordered our food . as our food was being delivered to our table the manager decides to bring a paper over to us saying only service animals are allowed and they must sit on the floor. we had been in the restaurant for at least 20 minutes when the manager came over to us. not only did she wait until our food was coming out of the kitchen but she had huge attitude with us. at this point our mood was ruined by this incident . we finished up worried the manager was coming back to harass us . when we were leaving my wife approached the manager to say we were told as we entered the restaurant that it was ok to bring in the puppy . I said there were not any signs anywhere with a description of pet rules. manager then claimed the rules were posted on the door . I checked the door when we first entered and there were not any signs . when we left I checked again and there were no signs anywhere , I bet there is now. will never eat at the Derby Kansas village inn ever again . the village inn should be ashamed of themselves for hiring such an unsavory manager to run a restaurant . read more

While visiting family in Derby recently, we stopped by here for breakfast. Parking was easy, the restaurant looked clean, and servers were polite and efficient. Our order came out quickly. The food was hot, fresh and tasty. My one complaint about the food would be that my over medium eggs came out over easy. (If you are a restaurant known for breakfasts, you should be able to nail cooking eggs any style.) The restaurant seems a bit dated. There are a lot of tasty selections on their menu. read more

I've been eating at the Village Inn in Derby since they opened. I've usually get one of their large dinner salads, last week we went in and I ordered the same salad as always. When it arrived I noticed that it was about half the size it normally is, but I did not say anything then. We were planning on going there tonight, so I decided to call the manager before we left to talk about the salad size. The manager told me that they reduced the salad size because they had been making them to large since they opened ten or twelve years ago. I think that is a load of s#!#. Village Inn is a gain restaurant and for the most part, is consistent across the board. It's a great spot for breakfast but they've also got other items, including lunch and dinner. Country fried steak, waffles, pancakes, chicken pot pie, and my all time favorite: All you can eat Fish FRY! It's essentially fish and chips, and I absolutely love it. The fish is always fried to perfection and the cole slaw pairs PERFECTLY for it. I would recommend using the malt vinegar because it enhances the flavor. Overall, they've got the typical breakfast item. It's comparable to Denny's, in my perspective, but has a much homier feeling, and the service is great. read more

The food here is good, but the customer service is okay and it really turns it from a 5 star to a 4 star. The meat especially chicken or steak normally comes out a little dry and a little over cooked. Besides that the only thing noticeable is the wait and not for a good reason. With a normal family of 4 it takes around 40 minutes to an hour to get your food so if you come here get soup or salad because if not you'll be in for a dreadful wait. read more

So Village Inn is really hit or miss on some things, consistent in others. So I have eaten there now on four different occasions to get the overall experience. Had all three meal types (breakfast, lunch, dinner) and experienced different shifts of both managers and wait staff. Typically the morning staff is the most attentive, and the quality of the food is way better. Have had their eggs, biscuits, gravy, hash browns, home fries, bacon, sausage, most of the normal breakfast Staples. Everything was delicious. The service in the mid morning and noon time is not bad per se but definitely less attentive. Something that I see successful restaurants do is the whole manager stopping at tables to see if everything met the customers expectations. One floor manager walked by our table 4 times never bothered to say a word. We had lunch today and it was the worst experience by far. We saw our server a total of 4 times, once to get drinks, once to deliver them and take our orders and one final time to deliver the pie and the check. She was pleasant enough but inattentive. I had the chicken ranch sandwich. The bun was nice and moist, the chicken was flat, and unseasoned. We're it not for the ranch dressing and fresh onion the whole sandwich would have tasted like cardboard. The fries were the same, slightly warmer than room temp and no seasoning what so ever. My wife's plate was of the same caliber. The half cold and boring fries, along with an equally boring burger, that again, were it not for the bleu cheese crumbles would have been as edible as a McDonalds burger. The restaurant is clean overall, they seem to make an effort to keep everything tidy. Final thoughts are to definitely go for breakfast. Dinner plates are alright, along the vein of a Bob Evans, the sandwiches so far leave much to be desired at least in our experience. Not a bad place to eat depending on what you want. read more

if I could give a 0 instead if a one I promise I would . me and my boyfriend ordered food for pickup around 8:20 tonight. my boyfriend picks it up, gets back home and we sit down to eat . as I'm feeding me and my TWO kids one almost 2 and one 10 months I feel something super hard and poky there was a STAPLE in my food . YES a staple. my kids could have been the one to chewed on that staple. not sure how it was In my cooked pancake that's in a styrofoam box with nothing that has to do staples . unsure of if they weren't happy we ordered food at 820 when they don't close till 9. but definitely taking it to the health department. read more

Village Inn in Derby is new so had to go by to try it since I love the one on Rock and Harry, my favorite places for breakfast/lunch. Ordered the Ultimate Skillet which is 2 bacon strips, 2 sausage links, mushrooms, green pepper, onion, tomatoes, Monterrey Jack and cheddar cheese, with 2 eggs your style, country potato's and 2 pancakes. I live for this breakfast/lunch, and would eat it everyday at least for a while. They got to us fixed us up with drinks fast and took the order. They were not very busy but it took them 10 min to get our order ready, a little longer than normal but not bad. The bacon wasn't as crispy as I like but I didn't order it crispy so can't complain to much about that. Overall it very fine middle of the day breakfast. Had a Cheeseburger & Salad here one day with my daughter and our husbands. A very unusual event -- since we all have conflicting schedules. The server was very obliging, as we all ordered completely different items. We were there pretty early in the day and they allowed me to order a cheeseburger. I don't like breakfast items -- and give kudos to any place that let's me order lunch items either very early or very late in the day!! I also didn't want french fries and asked if I could substitute a small salad. The server brought this delightful little salad -- that to me, was perfectly made. The others enjoyed their breakfasts and they looked well prepared. Our server attentively refilled our coffees and iced teas as we spent a little more time than usual -- as we had just attended a school play and needed to discuss some family matters. I walked in to see how they were spacing people out and there were people everywhere. Full tables and booths, no empty spots to be seen. Needless to say, we did not dine here. Too bad to, because I really have been happy in the past with their service and food. I'll leave it at three stars for my past experiences, but I hope they start leaving some open air in between tables and booths. Village Inn is so inconsistent. In the last few years quality has really suffered. It's like a crap shoot as to whether the meal will be good or will it be over cooked, under cooked, seasoned or unseasoned, fresh or reheated. There are two things they've started doing that are just horrible. One is their green beans. Frozen beans slapped on the grill for a few minutes? Ewww. The second is not just happening at VI, but I think it is a new trend in many restaurants. Just adding on a tip to the bill and hoping customers don't notice. Sometimes there are reasons people don't tip well. Most people tip for service, not because they feel it is their duty to make sure servers get a livable wage. Poor service is often the reason for poor tips . Not to mention there are jerks out there who do not grasp the concept of tipping. But hey, that's just the nature of the job. read more

Won't be coming back to this location. My husband and I order the same thing and all veggie omelette but wanted the avocado on the side rather than cooked into the omelet. Our meal came and my hash browns were swimming is oil/butter. I couldn't finish them because they were making me sick. My eggs were cold on the inside. Finally we got our ticket and when I went to counter I seen they charged me $1.49 per avocado that I had then put on the side. Also it came in a small dish and was maybe a quarter of an avocado for wash of us. I let the lady know at the counter it should only be .69 to add into your omelet but I just wanted it one the side not cooked in. The manager he came over and said no that's an up charge because avocado isn't one of the items in the menu for .69. I knew he was wrong and was going to open a menu and show him but he just walked off. So I paid $2.98 for a total of half an avocado!!! We went to another VI location this past week and sure enough right there on the menu in omelet section a avocado is listed as one of the .69 items!!! I ordered the sampler. One of the items was mozzarella sticks. They came and were never deep fried. They were straight from the fridge to plate. I ate half of one of the 4 sticks. I complained. She took my 3.5 remaining sticks and I hoped she would return with a few more sticks for my troubles. She came back with the SAME 3.5 sticks!
