I must agree with Kristina C. The service here is terrible. The waitresses consider themselves to be heiresses too good to wait on the commoners. So, let's give them some advice - get out of the waitressing business. Both times I had brunch here I had chillingly bad, slow service and I was with a group of at least four people on each occasion. That usually comes with a mighty high price tag at this restaurant, so you would think the snooty waitresses would be aware that every cent of their tip is dependent on how well they serve. This would include refilling waters and checking on the table - the bare minimum for a server. So, Village Square, I really loved your french press coffee - it was the best I've ever had, and the food was quite good but overpriced just the same. So, I grant you two stars. Hire new servers that don't think they have rose smelling stools and I may come back. read more

Stopped in for a quick creme brulee after dinner at the Thai Place, and was pleasantly surprised by the ambience (This place is ADORABLE), the staff's flexibility and the fact that in addition to vanilla creme brulee, they had a blueberry as well - YUM! This is probably one of the best restaurants we have visited in awhile for reasonably priced, world class food. The burger came with plenty of fries for $8 vs next door at Union Jacks for $11 without fries. The burger was the best I have EVER had....3/4 to 1 pound of good lean meat on a potato bun with a huge slice of tomato and red onion! Dijon and Ketsup on the side! Subdued, professional waitstaff. Perhaps a little slow, but not so slow as to be noteworthy (if it weren't for all the comments about the service in the reviews). The three of us each ordered the three course brunch meal. The website said the price was $27.50. When we arrived it was $38.50. The shrimp bisque appetizer was bland. The Caesar salads were small and flavorless (even the croutons had no discernible flavor). The appetizer buffet that came with meal was not bad -- it contained several decent dishes including artichoke salad and different cured/smoked meats. The crepes newburg were served in a casserole like manicotti -- baked, dried out and not very good. The sides consisted of a little lettuce and split cherry tomatoes with a little, tasteless dressing (not the fruit sides promised on the menu). The petite strip was filled with gristle and the potatoes it came with were undercooked and drenched in a harsh gravy. The grilled salmon lunch course was well presented but nothing special.. Dessert chocolate souffles were gloppy and gelatinous and served in a tin foil cup. All these shortcomings I could have forgiven had we paid less. But at the price they charged it was a bad experience. Also, although it is poitnless to complain about the portion size of food you don't like, the portions were way too small for the price. read more

Wonderful place to go for a nice evening out. They have a great happy hour from 4-7. Half off their martini list and half off their Gourmet Pizza's. My friends and I used to come here about once a week for the HH and I have had many wonderful memories here. read more

First time visiting. Highly recommended by friends. A little confusing knowing where to go when you first come in. No hostess at front door, bar scene. After being seated in the back atmosphere was great. Nice street view. However the service was terrible. After providing menus the server would disappear for extremely long time. Say she's bringing bread, leave butter, and not return for 10 minutes later. Crab cakes were delicious but filet was extremely undercooked. Even when sending back to the kitchen it came back not done. Filet had a lot of fat on it. Very small proportions. 2 rolls with meal. Expected a lot more from my friends earlier praise. Went here for brunch, and it took an hour for the food to come out. I got the chorizo scramble, which consisted of approximately one scrambled egg, a teaspoon of chorizo, and 6 small pieces of potato. Lunch special really good. Cup of soup, small salad and a whole sandwich. I had a crab lobster bisque. Really good. Winter salad a nice blend of greens with a few slices of beets, some sort of nuts and Gorgonzola cheese. I think. Lightly dressed. Very good. Couldn't eat the sandwich. Brought it home for husband. If I could leave 0 stars for this restaurant, I would. I've been to this restaurant several times with my husband for date nights, and the food was fantastic. However, I just left there after an incredibly disappointing experience. My husband and I tried to go there for date night again tonight, and we were told there was an open table on the patio after we had to flag down a member of the waitstaff to be seated. We sat down, got our menus, silverware, and waters, and our waiter told us he'd be right with us. A different waiter then came out and told us he was sorry but we would have to move because he had a group inside waiting for an outdoor table. To be clear, he didn't tell us where we should wait in the meantime, and he didn't offer another table where we could sit, he just told us to please get up and move. We got up, and our original waiter asked if there was a problem. We told him we were asked to get up but we weren't really sure where to wait for another table. He asked who had told us that, so we described the other gentleman that had told us to move. He said he "wasn't privy to that information" and walked inside. We proceeded to step inside to wait but were told we could either wait to be seated outside or go over to the restaurant side to wait for a table there. We chose to leave, instead, and we won't be returning. You've lost 2 loyal customers tonight. read more

Garbage food, everything came out cold, and the service by a few different servers was lacking. The atmosphere was EH. Just awfully big attitudes from the staff that served me a cold frittata and has an 84 out of 100 health score. I informed them about my dietary restrictions and they still messed up...very displeased and not worth the $35...or the forced tip. read more

The appetizers are poorly described, I ordered the Mozarella Caprese and got an argula salad with a blob of cheap mozarella and maybe 5 tiny heirloom tomoatoes. This was our first visit as we were passing through, but found Village Square to offer just the right atmosphere, friendliness and cocktails to take the edge off a full day in the car. We sat on the Piano Bar side, with lots of loungy seating, a 12 person bar, attentive bartenders, and chatty international fellow patrons. After a perfect Manhattan, I ordered the spinach salad with pecans, bleu, etc.. a bit on the small side, spinach a bit wilted (which I wasn't expecting, but wasn't bad) and grilled onions, which were a nice touch. I followed with another app, the pork belly, which, I must say, probably wasn't worth the calories...not braised long enough to have that silky melted texture inside, but over-grilled so it had a charred, tough-to-cut outside. Also, it was served in one of those overly swoopy oblong bowls that made it more than difficult to cut and enjoy...advice? Less design, more substance. My partner's meal, however, was stellar.. a massive mound of grilled pork (double-cut chops) replete with Mac n cheese, bitter greens and the whole magilla, looked amazing. Dessert was unnecessary, (again, too much swirl), but overall, I would go back when we next blow through WInchester. read more

They have a new cook and the food has made dramatic improvements. I've been twice in the last couple months and there was a new/different menu each time with several vegetarian options. Veg was virtually ignored on the old menu. If you haven't been for awhile give it another try! read more

We're getting ready to move to Winchester, so we've been spending a lot of time there. All I can say is that we love Village Square. Great beers on draft and I have dreams about the Virginia Chicken Salad Wrap. The mushroom ravioli is also to die for. The staff is always friendly and the owner is on site and incredibly attentive. Great martini menu for those so inclined. If its breezy, the patio is a great place to enjoy lunch and people watch on the pedestrian mall. read more

Village Square was a nice place for dinner on a picturesque street. We sat outside on a lovely fall day. I ordered the crab cake dinner. It was much more filling than crab cake entrees usually are. I enjoyed it a great deal, and my friends enjoyed their entrees as well. One thing of note, however, is that I found it a bit overpriced. I had a bit of a misconception when we arrived that this was going to be more of a pub atmosphere (that is what it looks like on the outside), but it turned out to be somewhat fancy and hence the high prices. Don't get me wrong - the food is quite good, but don't expect a bargain. :) read more

My girlfriend and I had lunch here a few weeks ago outside. The atmosphere was great, food was very good and service was excellent. This past Sunday I was hired to perform close up magic at a private party (not by the restaurant). Before I started I hung out at the bar. Both bartenders were very friendly. The atmosphere was nice, but the food was disappointing. Oysters Rockefeller did not have have the classic broiled bread crumb/Parmesan topping, just a glob of cream spinach, they took a short cut and the dish disappointed as it was missing a layer of flavor and texture. The peroxide were not very good. Perogies are dumplings and need to be boiled before being sautéed, these were simply pan fried and not great. They advertised brown butter but there was no brown butter apparent. The Coquilles St Jacques with mushroom risotto sounded good on the menu but did not deliver. The risotto was the worst I have ever had, tasteless. The four large scallops were not cooked in the sauce nor pan seared, perhaps cooked ahead, lightly draped in sauce. Anyone who remembers the classic and who would expect a rich luscious sauce, as I did, would again be disappointed. Ordered Absolute Vodka, sure it was not Absolute. I was at Village Square Restaurant for Winchester Restaurant Week and I was interested in trying the "Duroc Pork Roulade with candied walnuts, spinach, Gruyere cheese over Yukon potato mousse & cherry demi glace" I have a slight walnut allergy and wanted to know if the walnuts could be left out or eaten around. The waiter said he would ask. A few minutes later, the chef came out to talk to me and said he did not feel comfortable exposing me to an allergen. He then offered to specially prepare a version of the dish without the walnuts. I am glad he was so accommodating because it was delicious! Everything was great! The waiter was very attentive. As you first walk in your welcomed with a comforting atmosphere and a wonderful crew. The people who work here are just as lovely as the food. Then you get to the food were you are offered perfectly toasted bread. The size of their meals are perfect to get a full stomach but not a stomach ache, and the flavors are perfectly balanced. Had dinner on a Saturday. Food was blah. Burnt crabcakes. Not toasted, they were blackened and hard on the bottom. Really??? The décor was nice, portions were big but if you can't eat it what is the point. Wait staff was OK but they could have handled the bad food coming out of the kitchen. Very disappointing experience... No hostess and outside menu was different from the menu presented at the table. The menu had few options and were out of half of them. Service was slow! Steak way undercooked, even after sent back and the crab and corn fritters lacked crab and corn! Very doughy and undercooked. The lobster bisque was ok! Highly recommend for lunch. The burger is excellent. The crab cake is a signature dish. It's large and full of chunky pieces of crab with a balanced remoulade. The white bean and chorizo soup is hearty and tasty. The prices are reasonable for lunch, but the dinner menu looked really expensive. We'll definitely be going back for lunch. read more
