My wife and I hosted a wedding lunch for our daughter yesterday at VSR. Dy could not have been more gracious and helpful during the planning, providing great advice and perspective. He suggested adjoining rooms, one for the ceremony and cocktails/appetizers with the other for lunch. The food, a selection of items from the dinner menu, were excellent, wines paired well with the food and the service superb. We were well taken care of without feeling hurried. My advice is simply to go there. Whether for lunch or dinner, which we did several times to pick the wedding lunch menu, or special event VSR is the place!!!! Enjoy!!! read more

We were pleasantly surprised with this amazing restaurant. The ceviche was out of this world and I easily could've eaten at least two more orders of it! The steak my husband had was outstanding probably one of the best steaks I've ever tasted. He was so impressed he didn't even want to save some for the next day. I had a pear salad with salmon and it was phenomenal. I would highly recommend going to this restaurant the service was great and the food was amazing! $115.00 dinner for two without wine or dessert. It started well. The waiter gave us three small menus: one each for wine, martini's and the chef's tasting menu. The tasting menu look great with four courses for $40 and $50 when paired with wine. My wife and I both agreed that we'd order that. A couple minutes pass and a second waiter comes by to take our order. We hold up the tasting menu and before we could say a word he says, "where'd you get that"? He continues, "you shouldn't have gotten that", and "that offer ends at 8:00". I look at my watch: it is 8:09. Wife asks, "Should we just leave"? After all, the place has just committed the cardinal sin of over promising and under delivering. We decided to stay. Oh. One minor annoyance to note. The waiter pestered us three times about ordering something from the bar. Once is quite enough, thanks. As to the meal: Fried green tomatoes: Panko encrusted, fried, and topped with crab and mayo-based sauce ($8). Really, really good. Scallops Rockefeller: Sea scallop baked on a half shell, with spinach and cheese. Wrong on so many fronts: scallops (4) were overcooked, Rockefeller is dill-based - not spinach based, and WAY too expensive at $15. Oyster Duo: six oysters served in a confusing way at $12. Three as shooters in a bland fruit based liquid and three with crunchy pieces of cucumber on the half shell. I love oysters and this was a waste of effort, in my Opinion. Wife had the veal chop ($26) and I had the duck breast($22). She raved over the veal which was oven roasted and finished over a grill topped with, I think, a veal reduction. Served with fingerling potatoes and mini squash. My duck was perfection: rare with a nice thick layer of tasty skin attached. My sort-of- mashed potatoes were served with shredded cheese on top and were COLD to the taste. The coffee was French press ($7). Waiter was in a hurry to get out by now as we were the last table seated at 9:12. He stopped by twice to tell us to "take our time" while checking to see if I had tucked my credit card into the folio. We tipped 15%. The physical plant is stunningly beautiful in a walkable historic downtown. Overall: another case of reach exceeding grasp. Lovely restaurant with average wait staff coupled with a kitchen which (on this visit) could not consistently deliver. read more

Really nice atmosphere, great service, very tempting menu. The cocktail menu was unique and appealing. The Brussels sprouts and chowder appetizers were delicious. However the drinks and entrees ultimately fell a bit flat. Our entrees were pretty bland, and the drinks, while sounding complex, were very one-note. My wife and I stopped there for brunch this afternoon and sadly were met with the same cold reception as before. The last time we were there we were seated and waited an unusually long time to be served. Each time our apparel was casual as we were in the area and just wanted a nice meal in the atmosphere they provide. What we didn't expect the last visit were the looks from who I think should have been our server and the rude service by the staff other than our server. This visit the person seating us was extremely rude going so far as to fill our water glasses while talking to the table next to us where a couple wearing coat and tie/dress was seated. Also, I noticed as we continually said thank you to the people bringing our multiple courses out, they were barely able to return a "you're welcome". However, each time our actual server was quite pleasant and very courteous. The food was very good but, but since we were treated like lower class citizens I will comment on the food in a manner that reflects the ambiance they hope/try to achieve. I ordered the lobster frittata which was good except the potatoes were very heavily salted and the lobster meat was not evenly distributed. Instead it was clumped in two areas. While quite tasty, I would have appreciated consistency. My wife and I also started with tomato basil soup which was sloppily served having run down the side of the bowls. Again, I understand our appearance while not disheveled was very casual. I am not certain if it was our dress or our presence that was the issue here. But I can honestly say that the poor overall and discomforting experience overshadowed the food. For this reason I don't think we will return anytime soon. It's a shame actually as they do have a great ambiance and offer indoor and outdoor seating. Also sad is the fact that we've been to far higher level restaurants and never felt un-welcomed as we did here. read more

Three visits, all excellent= 15 Stars! First off, the service is sincerely friendly, menu astute, quick and efficient. This a is an excellent accompaniment to the food. I had experience this in two prior lunch visits with a friend and they were memorable; an indication to try dinner. None of us were disappointed. Everything is well-portioned, presented well, and no shortcuts. The General Tso chicken appetizer was well prepared and a cut above most. I had the wedge salad with blue cheese and bacon pieces. It had to have been local- it was the nicest wedge I have ever had, not a grocery store variety! I ordered the Coquilles St. Jacque (Scallops & Shrimp over creamed mushroom risotto) with fresh sautéed asparagus.This was a fantastic meal. The seafood was fresh, nicely sized and prepared well; the sauce was an excellent and savory compliment, the asparagus nicely sized and completely tender- not overcooked. This main dish would give ANYTHING I had in 20 years of DC a very hard run for less money. Nice, cozy atmosphere, not noisy, and well kept. I've been looking for a favorite local restaurant for a long time and think I have found it here after other ample trials --and tribulations, elsewhere. read more

Love the outdoor patio! This place was hoppin' the night we went and everyone was outside as the weather was perfect! They offer an extensive menu of local/seasonal ingredients. I had the organic greens salad which was delicious followed by the barmundi fish served with coconut rice and grilled pineapple. Everything was deliscious! My friends got the steak and they said it was cooked to perfection. The wine list is good - they have a menu for the bottle selections, however the glass selections are just rattled off by the waitress. I appreciated that she did say where the wines by the glass were from, but it still would've been nice to see a glass menu with vintage, etc. Very good place to dine in Winchester! read more

My girlfriends and I stumbled upon here while searching for a brunch spot that wasn't crazy crowded. Well, we'd gotten there just in time because it got crazy crowded about two minutes after we arrived. They offer a huge brunch special for $26 that includes mimosa or bloody mary, appetizer, salad, entree and dessert. Pretty good deal if you can pack all that food away. We all went for the a la carte option. I love their mimosa and bloody mary bar so you can customize it to your liking. I ordered the Chesapeake benedict with crab salad on it and opted for fruit (instead of potatoes) on the side. It was a nice take on the classic benedict though the crab salad was WAY too salty. Service was good considering the guy was managing about 30 people that all arrived within five minutes of each other. Nice to see outside if the weather's good! read more

My husband and I were traveling through the area and came here for my birthday dinner. I have never complained about my food but this was hard not to complain about. Our waitress was wonderful by the way. She was knowledgeable and accommodating. I ordered the OBX shrimp and scallops. I asked to replace the grits that it came with with mashed potatoes. No problem. My dish came out. It was literally 2 medium shrimp, 2 normal size scallops and 3 tiny pieces of asparagus. Mashed potatoes snd some tomatoes. This was $29. We ended up at the Village Square for my birthday. My daughter and granddaughter came from Warrenton and we came down from Chambersburg. What a delightful evening we had. The menu was fabulous,the service was outstanding the atmosphere was perfect. My granddaughter is six and was not prone to sitting still, and the wait staff was more than accommodating bringing her a colorful drink with extra cherries and substituting sides that she would like. Omg this place was amazing!! I got the grass feed Delmonico Steak with crab meat, asparagus, and mashed potatoes. The spouse got the filet mignon, carrots, and twice baked potato. I feel compelled to give the Village Square an extra boost since I might now be considered a "regular" and you only become that if a place is worth going back to again and again. Here it is in a nutshell...they have some better options for food than most places in the Winchester area. You can get appetizer pizzas that feature toppings like proscuitto and roasted red peppers. The tapa plate is usually pretty good. Their piano bar has a comfortable loungy atmosphere. Their martinis are BY FAR the best in town. but...and this is a big BUT...they lack consistency. The pizzas are sometimes overcooked and the boneless wings are sometimes fresh and spicy, but other times dry with that "we've been sitting under a heat lamp an hour too long" look to them. The dinner entrees are steadily improving since my initial visit. The paella was divine a few weeks ago and the creme brulee was very good as well. And...they are great about dividing an entree onto two plates if you choose to split something. I am officially a fan. The wait staff is always friendly. My boyfriend and I were walking through Loudoun St. and came across The Village Square, so we thought we should be a bit spontaneous and give it a try. The decor is very pretty and I loved the music. We started out with the Clam appetizer, and let me tell you... IT WAS AWESOME. It was delicious. The sauce was creamy and flawless. For my meal, I chose the Chilean Seabass with fried green beans and soba noodles. It was mouth watering sensation. The best I have ever had! My boyfriend ordered the veal, it was delicious but he did not like the sides it came with ( I think it was beans and carrots.) -OH! I loved their margaritas. One of the tastiest I have ever had. If I could rate this restaurant more then 5 stars, I would. Very highly recommended. It's quite a distance from where I live, but I can say I would eat here frequently if I could. read more

Visited this restaurant when I was in town for a couple of days last week. My appetizer was delicious, the main, not so much. The restaurant didn't seem to follow covid guidelines and when I brought to the attention of my server the fact that a party was seated next to me, with one person directly at my back, I was asked if I wanted to move. My full meal was already on the table, at that point. I had to tell her that I was there already when the party arrived and they should be the ones to move. She then told me that she had to find out how many were joining the party, as if that mattered. Additionally, she made it her point to voice loudly that "it was done", once they were moved. Assuming she did that to make it known to them that I was the person with the concern. Made no difference to me. The law is the law and I should not be to blame for wanting to dine out, especially during these times, in a safe manner. Additionally, although the restaurant was majority empty, I felt rushed through my meal, although I ordered several courses and a beverage. I also sensed a hint of racism in this establishment. Definitely not a good sign. read more

We had the champagne brunch Sunday afternoon on the patio. My wife loved the butternut squash soup. I had the roasted fennel soup. It was nicely prepared though not to my taste. The cheeses and cold meats on the buffet were excellent and a nice addition to the brunch. Our entrees were the petite sirloin and grilled lamb. Both had good flavor and presentation. My wife thought her steak was a bit salty. We both liked the grilled baby zucchini that accompanied the entrees. Everything went well with the endless champagne. The deserts were excellent. Our server was knowledgeable and correct. We were really pleased with our meal and impressed that Winchester could serve us so well on a beautiful early fall afternoon. read more

I don't know what has happened to this establishment in the last few years... But is definitely gone downhill. We had brunch here on Saturday... I got the lunch soup, salad, and chicken salad... The salad was warm, the lettuce was wilted. The chicken salad was nothing but gristle, and fat smothered in way too much warm mayonnaise. They forgot crackers for Maryland crab soup (not once, but twice... Once for my husband's soup and once for mine). The soup was just salty and lightly speckled with seafood bits that had been blended so throughly that I can not even guarantee it really was seafood at all! I'd like to say it was because they were busy... Or because it was a rush... But we were one of the very first tables if not the first table of the day. Like I said, it used to be a really great establishment... And I used to love to go there... But this is one of three very poor experiences for us in the last year... And I won't be back. read more

While on the road, we always welcome a fine dinner and several fine cocktails. Last night, Village Square (on the piano bar side) provided both. The low lighting was perfect after a long day in the car, helping to hide a multitude of sins. We met a few cool people at the bar, enjoyed a few martinis, and happily eschewed the chain restaurants in the area to dine on Blue Crab and Corn Fritters and a Double Cut Pork Chop with Mac and Cheese and Collards. While resisting the temptation of an Olive Garden, Carraba's or Long Horn Steakhouse may be considered all-American, I feel smarter and more satisfied the morning after. So, dare to go off the beaten track while in the Winchester, VA area. Treat yourself. You deserve it. read more

Pleasantly surprised that V2 prepared a Vegan Buddha bowl that was sublime. A special order as there really are no specifically vegan items on the menu. It was immediately apparent that the chef knows exactly what comprises excellent, balanced and delicious vegan fare. Red Quinoa with sweet corn, black beans sautéed with....sweet potato...?....perfect baby spinach...spicy jicama shreds. It was heaven in Winchester. This used to be my favorite restaurant in town. However, in the last year, it seems like every time I go the prices are higher and the food is worse. Ate there twice this week for business meals, ordered medium rare steaks that came out medium well. My colleague ordered shrimp and grits for $23 and received two pieces of shrimp and about 3/4 cup of grits. George's down the street has better quality food for lower prices. It has become my new favorite restaurant in Winchester. Update: went there tonight and no one could even bother to come take my order. Left after 20 minutes of waiting. Terrible service, rude staff, and ridiculously priced food. Truly the worst restaurant in town. read more

First time dining at V2 and it did not disappoint! Glad to have made a reservation on a busy Friday night, and the romantic atmosphere was ideal for an intimate date. Everything, from the fried green tomato with crab salad app, to the French press coffee to the delectable steak was delicious. The service was top notch also. The price point was a bit higher than we usually spend, but it was 100% worth it. Loved the four sauce option to accompany the steaks, but the horseradish cream was by far the best! The service was some of the best my wife and I have experienced without qualification. We've dined at restaurants in larger metropolitan areas known for setting dining standards where the service was not as good. So, the service was absolutely awesome. Unfortunately, the food did not live up to the quality of the service. First, the portion size and quality of the food did not match price. Prices were in line with high-end, fine-dining establishments. The quality of the top cut sirloin was on par with the local Applebees, but twice the price. You can judge the quality of a restaurant with how they take the ordinary and create something extraordinary, especially when charging a premium. The greenbeans were also overcooked and generally lacked flavor. The sweet potato mash was the bright spot of the dish but only relative to the rest of the dish. The scallop and ravioli entree was the size of a well portioned appetizer. To illustrate the point, there were two small ravioli not even tossed in sauce surrounded by about five scallops with a meager portion of spinach served on a narrow, rectangular plate. The dish cost more than $20. The chocolate cake dessert, which was a substitute for the chocolate lava cake, cost $9 and tasted store bought. It was a sliver that at its widest was the size of a thumb. Again, premium price but sub-par quality. This is a great place for a drink with friends because of the absolutely awesome service and ideal ambiance. read more

DH and I had lunch at The Village Square today (Wednesday). It was quiet inside with only 2 other tables seated. The servers were polite and prompt (but did not refill my water glass). DH had the Tidewater Gumbo which he enjoyed and mentioned that it had a significant level of heat. I tried the fish tacos which were very fresh with papaya salsa and guacamole, served with black beans & rice. The salsa had a nice little kick. Very nice place for lunch! Nothing better than a night on the patio with a seasonal martini. When the ginger fizz is on the menu it's my favorite. The dirty is a classic perfect martini and never disappoints. Food is ever changing. I've never had a bad meal. I've read reviews that state the waitstaff is snobby. Not so AT ALL. Think the reviewer must have had a complex! Staff is always friendly. Always. I've never felt slighted or that they were, as the reviewer said, "heiresses". Down to earth, knowledgeable about the menu and quick to get anything I ask for. I love all of them so much I had Village Square cater my wedding. I still hear how amazing the food was. Lamb lollipops were a hit. Go visit the best patio in the summer. Grab a drink, some great pizzas at happy hour and do like the locals! read more

Last weekend we met a group of friends to celebrate my other half's 40th birthday. I have been here many times before but never as part of a group. The private room we were given was perfect. The table amply and comfortably sat all 8 of us. The chairs were fully upholstered and comfortable. I had the boar shank and it was great. The service was good. All in all a great evening. read more

What a disappointment. We just celebrated a birthday and Mother's Day at Village Square and I have the urge to shake my finger with disapproval. The portions were small, the food was bland, wilted, and presented without attention to details. There were also noticeable discrepancies in the size and plating of identical dishes. I was frankly embarrassed and left hungry after a 3-course meal (?!) The kitchen was evidently in a rush, running out of food, or just didn't care. For such a lovely restaurant in one of Winchester's best locations, I pray that you improve your standards. read more

Village Square Restaurant is not great, but it's an alright place to have a meal. I took my husband here for his birthday and we both had an appetizer, entree and split a bottle of wine. This was the most expensive dining experience we've ever had (not including the wine) and we've dined at many fine dining establishments. Their prices are quite high considering the quality of the food. There aren't many really good local restaurants in the Winchester area, so I would say Village Square is one of the better ones. read more

I use to come here a lot with my girlfriends for brunch on Sundays. $28 for soup, salad, an entrée, and dessert. Plus bottomless mimosas and bloody marys. Every time I have gone the food was delicious. However, after recently moving out of the area, I came to brunch today to visit with family. It seems they raised the price to $32 and took out the dessert option, replacing it with small samples. In addition to the price raise, the food quality and taste seems to have gone down. The lobster bisque was good, the mixed green salad was okay, but my entrée (Smoked Salmon Benedict) had way too much salt added. All I could taste was salt in every bite. Unfortunately, I probably won't be coming back. Though, the service was great and staff was very nice but I've had better food at iHop. Save yourself some money and eat elsewhere. read more
