I had the scallops and they were great! The sauce was a creamy and little cheesy. The service was great and we were always with filled drinks. We had lunch today at Village Square. It's one of several restaurants in a restored area that's a pedestrian mall tourist trap. It's an attractive place with original brick walls and wooden floors. The lunch menu is limited, with a couple of soups and salads and several sandwiches. We both had the fried green tomato BLT. It was pretty good, but the scale for grading such sandwiches is pretty narrow. Service was excellent. Overall a pretty good experience, an endorsable spot. read more

Recently had our daughters post-wedding lunch here for 34 people. It was perfect! From the pre-lunch planning communication, to the wait staff and food - perfection. My husband and I are so pleased that our little date spot could make our large party feel so welcome and do such a great job for us. Dy was fantastic in helping us plan everything. I can't say enough about how great the staff was in making our daughter's day so fantastic. All of the people here were wonderful and felt like we had known them for years!! Brooke, our tentative bartender, makes one of the best vodka martinis (dirty) I've had in a long time! That alone will bring me back! Nice ambiance and relaxed atmosphere. Great appetizers was all we had - oysters, shrimp and a great crab dip that wasn't the typical, overly cheesy, overly creamy, "soup like" dip. I enjoyed eating here but probably won't go back due to the 3% "convenience fee" the restaurant charges for credit card payments. There's also a 5% state sales tax and a 4% county meals tax. With the taxes, fees and tip it's just not worth it to go out to eat anymore. Restaurant owners in Frederick County need to lobby the county to repeal the meals tax. That's what restaurant owners in Prince William County are doing. Also if the restaurant doesn't want to pay the credit card swipe fees they should just not accept credit cards. Don't pass the swipe fees on to the customer. I realize the swipe fees are BS. Hopefully a bill recently reintroduced in Congress will end the BS. We dined here tonight and left a little disappointed. We have eaten here before and I always enjoyed the food and the service. Tonight, after we were sat the waiter did come and advise if the specials (both fish) and take our drink and starter order. We got our bread basket with 3 small, dry bread slices. My husband's oysters were fine and I didn't have a starter. My husband ordered the filet minion, which was supposed to be served with mashed potatoes, sautéed green beans, oyster mushrooms and a demi glacé. I got the duck ragout. There was not one mushroom on my husband's plate (though I think there was one on mine, not sure why). When we got our waiter over and asked about it, we were told that they thought the kitchen had run out of mushrooms. And that was the end of it. I often order my meal based on the sides that are offered and if there is a problem, you should be advised when ordering. We mentioned the issue to the hostess when leaving and were told they have nothing to do with the food. Accountability could go a long way from the kitchen to the staff to the management. read more

Found this cute place that could feed the carnivore and vegan! Great location in historic Winchester. Nice walking mall to boot! There were 4 in our group. I had the fresh NC pecanye steak. It was cooked perfectly, and served a baked potato and asparagus. He very much enjoyed it. My adventurous daughter had the Vegan steak, was DELICIOUS! made out of sweet potato and black beans. Some liquid smoke was added, and served with steak sauce and asparagus. Highly recommended! Other daughter was happy with her burger and very good fries. We ordered some appetizers, the Appalachian dipping plate, which included hummus, and an order of fried General Tso shrimp. I order a standard filet mignon with green beans and potatoes, the wife ordered some butternut squash raviolis that were apparently very good. Also ordered the Asian duck lettuce wraps and peach burrata caprese. Lunch time in downtown Winchester, the Village Square restaurant looked busy and busy is good. It was a little too sunny, so I went for a table inside but close to the window. I had the lunch club sandwich, which turned out to be a classic club. Three layers of toast, bacon, ham, turkey, cheese, mayo, lettuce, tomato. Cut into diagonal quarters and stuck with toothpicks. A big pile of thin and crispy fries on top and served with a pot of ketchup. Classic. For $10, a bargain for a sandwich this large. read more

We had a reservation at Village Square tonight and requested a booth we got there and were seated at a table and were told booths were just a request and not a guarantee (IT WAS IN OUR RESERVATION)!! The hostess or whoever she was seemed annoyed but did move us from a table to a booth but the table top was filthy and we had to ask for it to be cleaned. The entrees were all good but we ordered mediterranean dipping plate and it was terrible, barely enough for two people let alone 4 it came with a handful of carrots a few radishes and two pieces of sliced crostini. The dinner rolls were hard as rocks and the desserts were just mediocre. Our server was not very attentive she did not check on us regularly and other tables seemed more important. For the money the food is too inconsistent and this place and all the staff needs some classes in customer service. read more

Been here a few times. This was the last for me. Watery crab bisque, no bread or even crackers were included. I asked for crackers and the server told us some times they provide them sometimes they don't. What? Ordered the grilled scallop cob salad. The 3 scallops were perfectly cooked. There was a small sliver of avocado, 2 quarters of boiled egg, a few corn kernels and a small amount of mixed greens. For $21 I expected at least to get some greens, and again, maybe a cracker or a piece of bread. Total bill was $40, including iced tea and the tip. read more

We have been here a few times in the past with no issue, but nothing spectacular either. We came out this evening and ordered mussels. Out of about 20 mussels about 5 didn't open. The manager took the unopened ones to the back and brought them back to us stating he was able to pry them open. Yeah, No thanks dude. Supposed to be served with fresh bread- they brought us 2 small pieces after asking 3 or 4 times. Dinner comes out. Steak ordered mid rare. Came out well done. So again we tell the waiter, who sends the manager. We ask for our bill, because at this point service sucks and food was miserable. As a Winchester native for nearly 30 years, I have frequented Village Square numerous times throughout the year for their infamous "Endless Mimosas" and brunch. Prior to COVID-19, customers could enjoy making their own mimosas and choose off the three-course menu for a price of nearly $33. After my visit today, I can honestly say this is the worst experience I have had at Village Square. We received three drinks in 1.5 hours for an "endless mimosa" brunch special and our entire party received our food cold, without nearly any taste/flavor, and now followed by endless excuses by the management. I completely understand restaurants are under short staffing; however, management at Village Square can control what they can which would either be reducing the overall pricing, serve their drinks in additional formats (pitchers, etc.), or discontinue their "endless mimosa brunch," a dining experience they can no longer provide. I stumbled across this Jewel of the Nile, whilst visiting Winchester on a staycation from Maryland. I was greeted with superb hospitality, and the experience went up from there!!!
