I stopped at Vina Robles for lunch on Friday, and it was an overall great experience. Located very conveniently off the 46, it's a gorgeous property that makes you entirely forget that you're right next to the highway. I loved the bread and tri-tip on my tri-tip sandwich, as well as their homemade potato chips. The shrimp salad was a generous portion that had a good amount of sizable shrimp and looked very fresh. Our server, Sierra, was super friendly, and she even held a prime table on the patio for me when I called about a half hour out from the winery to ask if I needed a reservation. After lunch, I went inside for a wine tasting. Vina Robles charges $15 for any 5 wines on their list of around 18 selections. I couldn't decide which reds to pick, and Lauren made me a deal I couldn't pass up, letting me have a bunch of half tastings so I could try more wines. (Thank you!!) I ended up really enjoying - and purchasing - the Albariño and the reserve Syrah, and the tasting fee is waived with a wine purchase. My only negative comment is that service was very slow. It took well over an hour for lunch. I found out after lunch that they were short-staffed, but also that if I had done my tasting first, I could have placed my food order while tasting and had the food arrive as soon as I sat down to eat. I only wish I had gotten that tip sooner. Anyway, next time I'm in Paso Robles, I'd love to revisit Vina Robles. read more

I came here for the first time 3 years ago. I did not expect much but was very pleasantly surprised. On my first visit, I was so impressed with what I tasted that I became a member. This is the first and only winery that I'm a club member and I do go wine tasting probably 5-6 times/year. I did not realize until this last trip how reasonably priced Vina Robles is. I am not sure if it is because the wine in the area has increased in prices or we just happen to go to pricier wineries but when we got to Vina Robles at the end of the day, tasted their wine and looked at their prices, I was like heck yeah, this is why I am a member here. If you like medium to full bodied wines, I would recommend trying Vina Robles. It's always a nice experience as the wine is good and staff is pleasant. read more

Just stood at the tasting room counter for over a half hour waiting to taste. Only one other couple tasting and not a single acknowledgement of our existence. Then we left and they didn't notice that either. The servers wouldn't even turn around, it felt very purposeful. My mother has a Service dog & at the time she had forgotten her card to show proof that her dog is a service dog & the lady working there didn't questioned her at all & let her inside with her dog. We did one white and one red tasting so that we got to try a variety of wines, and Allen threw a couple extra tastings off the menu in for us too. My sister is a member of their wine club, so when my husband and I went, I mentioned that to our pourer. When we told her that, she gave us the membership treatment. She poured us so many different wines that I couldn't keep track! And she was very generous with the pours too, which was a good and bad thing. Every wine we tasted was good. While pouring for us, our pourer engaged us in conversation. I ended up buying two bottles of wine for which she gave us the membership discount. My overall experience here was wonderful and I will be returning the next time I'm in Paso Robles. read more

If I had written a review after our first visit I would have given Vina 5 stars. Unfortunately, today we did not have the same experience. The first time we visited was earlier this year and we came for just a wine tasting not knowing that Vina even offered food. On that visit we were seated in the courtyard which was beautiful and our waitress almost insisted we have lunch. We had the burger and it was incredible! We have absolutely raved about it since that visit. Today we went for a visit at Vina and despite looking for several days we were unable to make a reservation for lunch, so we made just a wine tasting reservation hoping we could somehow have lunch there. We arrived at 11:40am. They weren't seating anyone in the courtyard (it was slightly chilly today but we had sat outside at a winery at 10am prior to this and still found it comfortable). Of the 15+ tables inside, one table was occupied (and had already received their lunch order) when we arrived. We asked if we could sit at a table and have lunch. We were told no that they were totally booked and unable to accommodate us. They then directed us to the bar to stand for our wine tasting. To me, nothing says this is a in and out wine tasting, don't stay and enjoy yourself more than having to stand for a wine tasting. While we were standing at the bar for our tasting another lady asked if they could sit and have lunch and was also told no. We asked again the reasoning behind almost every table being in the place being open and telling those of us asking to have lunch no and we were told they were full with reservations and were short staffed. There were at least 2 employees while we were there standing around not doing much of anything. This doesn't support the short staffing narrative. In regards to reservations, reservations online for lunch at Vina start at 11am and are every 30 minutes until 2:30pm. Again, online and in person Vina claimed to be sold out. But we arrived at 11:40am and left at 12:40pm and again, there was one table seated the entire time we were there. So you're telling us everyone with an 11, 11:30, 12pm, and 12:30pm no showed or canceled and no one arrived early for the 1pm reservation? We're really confused on how business runs here. You have people asking to give their business to you and the answer is no while the place remains empty. Somewhere between either the reservation system or the employees there is a disconnect that lacks common sense to sensibly operate the business. Unfortunately this lead to a bad customer service experience for us today. This is disappointing because of our great experience the first time. We have brought guests with us to Paso before and even for ourselves it doesn't give us the confidence to return, especially with others, if we don't have a consistently good experience every time we visit. read more

You guys. This winery is absolutely fantastic. I am a huge wine o and I am actually a tour host at a winery in temecula, but when we went here my goodness, Grace understands and knows her wines and is absolutely fantastic at both serving and explaining their amazing wines! Their food is incredible and wines are so amazing!!!! And again, I cannot say enough great things about grace! She made us feel so welcomed and we had such a wonderful experience!!! Very nice tasting room. Walked in on a week day so thankfully low foot traffic. Tried several different wines and fell in love with their rendition of the syrah (syreè). The tasting room also has food and a cheese and chocolate pairing option. We planned our trip with a older wine country brochure which listed the vineyard as dog friendly so when we showed up we were welcomed by Kelly who attended to us in an area where we could be with our dog and still wine taste. The vineyard is no longer listed as dog friendly but we were not shunned... Instead Kelly took care of us in a separate area where she can provide us with a tasting and since this was our last stop and were feeling the effects, I forgot my hat. Husband and I stopped at Vina Robles Winery on our way to San Luis. The venue is very nice with lots of seating both inside and out to relax and enjoy the experience. They also have live music on Saturday, which really adds a nice touch. Their staff is knowledgeable, friendly and interact well with customers. We will be back when we're in the area. read more

First of all, this was our first time here and OMFG it was amazing!!!!! I want to applaud Ceili for handling a family of 4. She was friendly and very knowledgeable of the wine flights. I was excited because of the prices and taste of the wine. It was our first time and we actually came back to get a Rose bottle after all of other wineries we visited. Must visit when in Paso! Amazing experience I highly recommend it. All of their wines are amazing! From their white wines Sauv Blanc , chard , Verdejo and Albariño are simply delicious ! We stopped in because are attending a concert in their amphitheater tomorrow. Wanted to get an idea of available parking. Pleasantly surprised by the whole facility. Came on a overcast June morning, Saturday, fairly quiet due to the time of day. Staff was friendly and welcoming. Public tasting room is a large cool room. The very high ceiling makes it feel like a grand space. Enjoyed the tasting. Lovely seating outside with umbrellas to enjoy the wine and have our dogs with us. A nice visit. read more

Our wine tasting here was very fun and all 4 of us enjoyed all the wines, bought a few bottles even but then we had lunch, and I mean "but" in the best way possible. Probably the best burger I've ever had in my entire life - and I legitimately eat burgers all over LA with a friend of mine and rate them so I know what I'm talking about. The cheese plate was huge - delicious and definitely worth it. We also got an appetizer of their French fries that had garlic, cheese and I think it was truffle sauce on it too - whatever it was, it was heaven. One of my favorite dinning experiences to date! If you're driving by here make sure you stop for lunch because you absolutely will not regret it. I plan on making the drive from LA back here for lunch someday very very soon! I swore black and blue to my husband that I would not join another wine club, I promised him that we had enough clubs and were members at all of the best wineries in the Paso area, I convinced us both that we had many shipments of wine coming in the next few weeks and that we didn't need to buy any on this trip unless we were recouping a tasting fee... And then we arrived at Vina Robles... Ah Vina Robles with your amazing wine and your smooth talking host who let us go off menu and sample through every bottle open or available regardless of what was on our tasting menu, who provided a vertical tasting of a number of varieties to showcase various vintages, who brought out cheeses to develop the real flavor of the wine, who gave us champagne and port and who doubled the member discount since it was my husbands birthday... Ah sweet sweet talking Vina Robles... How did you convince me so quickly into ignoring all of my promises and guarantees that I would not join another wine club and that I would not leave a winery with a box of wine under my arm? Oh that's right... Amazing wine and fantastic service!!! read more

Wonderful wines! Was lucky enough to stop in here on a very quiet Monday morning when the winery was virtually empty. The grounds here at Vina Robles are designed very nicely for congregating and for holding medium to large scale events. The guy who helped me with my tasting was super enthusiastic and helpful when it came to learning more about the wines. Although their easily accessible wines are good and worth tasting - it's the exclusive and limited edition wines where you'll find the real gems of Vina Robles. Try some of their more exclusive syrahs and syrah/cab blends. Amazing stuff. Word to the wise though - and this is in agreement with one of the other posters here - the Syrah grapes are particularly dark - so don't be surprised if your teeth get temporarily stained (purple) from extensive tasting of Vina Robles' wines. It's worth it though. read more

The winery produces 30,000 to 35,000 cases a year. Winemaker Kevin Willenborg works with a a cellar master and vineyard manager but they're not big enough yet to need an assistant manager. On this warm mid-August day it wasn't yet time to harvest so Willenborg had time to meet with me. As we readied ourselves for a tasting I noted the inviting grounds, a two-room retail store and an extra large tasting room with large floor-to-ceiling windows letting in natural light that was conducive for examining wines. Tasting with Willenborg The 2012 Sauvignon Blanc from the Jardine Vineyard was newly released just this July and is Kevin's first vintage here, prior to that he was at Rubicon Estate in Napa. Kevin said it had good tropical fruit, while I noted pear, kiwi, cling peaches, fruit cocktail. No barrel fermentation so the wine retained more fruit, all stainless steel, the wine had beautiful balance and acidity. And as the wine is subjected to as little movement as possible, again to retain the fruit aromatics, Willenborg said that it even translated into your glass once emptied. He was right! Oak masks aromatics, according to Willenborg, as it's porous and takes away much of the fruit. Here the Sauvignon Blanc is "fragile" and you want to "capture that" fruit. Willenborg said, "With fresh fruit and no oak...it's about freshness in the wine." 2012 White Four is another new release and a blend of Viognier, Verdelho, Vermentino and Sauvignon Blanc. "Can't do this kind of blending in Europe" Willenborg said. Aromas like that of a Riesling, jasmine and just-bit-peach; with flavors of dried apricots, (Kevin said mango) acidity, cream on the back palate, and tingly citrus fruits. 2010 Red Four is a Rhone blend, not like the white, and comprised of Syrah, Petite Sirah, Grenache and Mourvedre. Willenborg thinks Paso is a "sweet spot" for Petite Sirah, and it delivers a richer mouthfeel, with aggressive and astringent tannins. He said that a winemaker must "tame" the tannins - and the prevalent heat in the growing area help round out the tannins. Plums and dark cherry, black currant, stewed mushrooms all on the nose. On the mouth I got black cherry, stewed plums, jammy, green peppercorns and softened tannins to the end, ready to drink now. And at $17 it's a damn good deal. The 2010 Cabernet experienced crueler cooler weather than in 09 and 08. Dark cherry, wet wood, black pepper, juicy, minty on the nose - and cassis according to Willenborg. On the mouth it was bursting with black cherry and pepper, nice fruit, balanced tannins. I could drink this now. The 2010 Petite Sirah was yummy with mature fruit on the nose, and aromas of plums, leather, a nice viscosity, tannin fruit-forward, lush, smoky yet creamy. Approachable now or lay it down. It's harder for other areas to grow a Petite Sirah like this, rich and round without astringent tannins on the finish, Willenborg said. I thought it was very well done. 2009 Suendero is a blend of 95% Cab and 5% Petit Verdot and had aromas of smoke, mint chocolate, blueberry, wet leaves. Tastes of milk chocolate, red to blue fruits, toasted oak, incredibly full, drying with the fruit hanging in for a very long finish. Drink now with food (or not) or age. Fullest wine of the day. 2008 Syree blend is 82% Syrah and 18% Petite Sirah and silky smooth per Kevin. I found a bowlful of dark, ripe fruits, forest floor, smoke, dark chocolate, black licorice. In the mouth I got spicy jam, mushrooms, maybe steamed spinach, tannins and "structure" per Willenborg. Age-worthy too. Blind Barrel Sample - I got lots of red to dark fruits, several layers and discovered it was a 2012 Petit Verdot! Willenborg thinks both Petit Verdot and Petite Sirah do well here - where the fruit characteristics are more prevalent and the tannins naturally rounder. The one we sampled will be released in 2015. Eve's Conclusion: I did not meet a Vina Robles that I didn't like! Visit! Some are available in limited quantities. read more

We were told that Vina Robles was one of the newer wineries around the area. The grounds are stunning. It would be cool to have a small wedding reception or party here. The inside is kinda decorated like a museum gift shop with art hung everywhere. I thought this place was pretty cool and overall liked most of the wines we tried. Our pourer was nice and did a good job catering to such a large group. We got to try 6 wines for free. Also after trying all the wines, she gave us a special treat of sparkling wine with grape juice. It was really good. I ended up buying a bottle of the sparking wine and grape juice so I could make some for my friends at home. But I accidentally left it in the hotel room like a dumb dumb so that sucked. But still, Vina Robles was a nice place to try. read more

I visited Vina Robles based on two things: 1) A recommendation from another winery , and 2) It was across the street from another winery I was at making it very convenient to visit. I had no idea what to expect when I went to Vina Robles, and in all honestly, I just wanted to be able to hit up another winery before the wine tasting day ended, so I stopped in with a group of friends. So walking in, we were greeted by the wine attendant. She proceeded to offer the usual wine tasting experience, but then tantalized us with a special wine and cheese pairing experience AND a wine and chocolate pairing experience. Wow, an excuse to drink more ended up turning out to be a one-of-a-kind wine tasting! 2 people in my group opted for the wine and cheese and another opted for the wine and chocolate (I went for the reserve tasting). The entire wine tasting took over an hour of wonderful wines, conversation, and cheese and chocolate. I was offered an additional 3 reserve wines to try beyond the 5 that were included! The wine, the cheese, the chocolate and the experience were PERFECT. So perfect, that Vina Robles took my wine club cherry, and I joined my first wine club because the wonderful experience and wines. read more

I really like this place. Like really really like this place. Came here for a wine tasting event at their hospitality center. I was really impressed with the space and how they had everything set up and ready to go when we walked in. They had two staff members in the back ready to pour as well as a selections of their wines ready for us to taste. All of their wines are pretty good. They served a chardonnay, a rose, their red 4 wine, and their cabernet. All were pretty good, but my favorite had to be the red 4. I went into the tasting room to purchase it and when I told them I was with the group in the hospitality room, they asked if I wanted to try any more wine. I ended up trying and buying the petite syrah, as well as the zinfandel. I was very happy with my purchases. read more

What an absolute fantastic experience at the members wine club. Having just joined the wine club last month we decided to stop here on our way down to Pismo Beach. Ray was attentive, engaged in some great conversation with us while allowing the time to enjoy each pour. This is by far my favorite winery in all of Paso and I cannot wait to come back very soon.
