I can't recall when this establishment made it's first appearance into my psyche, but I do know that by the time I was in high school I valued the cafe for all it stood for. At any given night, the place will be full of locals who know all the spots and know what they like best, that's why they're there. If you went to CHS there is always a good chance of running into old classmates. That, in itself may not be considered a pro, but the fact that so many people call this place home does. Vinaka's sandwiches, ice cream and beverages are all wonderful. You're only trouble here may be finding a spot to sit in the crowd or finding missing game pieces for the games provided. read more

Vinaka Cafe is an excellent find for a Northwest coffee drinker like myself. It has a very "Portlandy" feel to it. The coffee is excellent and the atmosphere is really comfortable. You can tell this place has great baristas that take pride in their art form. There are a good number of tables of varying sizes and styles. I definitely recommend the raspberry oat bar with your coffee. My favorite time to go here is in the evening. It has such a relaxing open-air atmosphere and is a great place to perch above the lively nearby local bar. read more

This is my favorite coffee shop to study and do work at! the seating is accommodating for those wanting to get work. The only two things I would change about the place and would like the managers to know is that during the evening it's almost impossible to read and write due to the low lighting and the blender is very loud and distracting. read more

Well I came back to Vinaka honestly not expecting much when it came to the espresso. Espresso I feel like is something that really judges the character of a shop as it is the building block of almost all the other drinks. Tonight I had an amazing shot by a barista, I wish I would have asked her name. It tasted AMAZING! Just as I thought it should from the beans they are using. It had the perfect amount of créme' and was a wonderful consistency. The shot was strong but not too bitter. Props to you. Great place in Carlsbad to get some work done, catch up with friends or just read a book and people watch. I haven't tried any food (except for some cookies!) but they have a good selection of drinks, the atmosphere is open and welcoming, location is great with indoor and outdoor seating, and the people have always been friendly. read more

Every time my Husband and I are in Carlsbad we come here just for their ice cream. I love that is all natural, and for the amount you get the price is well worth it. I have yet to try their coffee, maybe someday. Now that our son is older we love to bring him here for a sweet treat and a little playtime in the "grass" area. I've been going to Vinaka for a long time on a nearly daily basis as it is close to my office. The coffee and food are great, as is the atmosphere. I love the organic coffees, and it is awesome that they started to recently carry Stevia sweetener. The breakfast bagel sandwiches are fantastic if you ever come in the morning. I absolutely love this place! It's the only place in the area that I know of that has almond milk and rice milk which is my fave at home so I love that they have it! Perfect place to meet a friend and have breakfast or lunch (they have really good sandwiches!) Or just hang by yourself and do some work! Little secret well hidden in a small shopping mall. So quiet and relaxing. Great service, it's like going back home with familiar faces welcoming you. The ice-cream is great too and the coffee does not overcaffeinate you like Starbuck's. Some people work on their computers, some have business meeting, friends get together, you can choose to strike a conversation or mind about your business. Dogs are allowed to stay outside, so you can bring your own pet or pet someone else's pet! They have some food too, besides pastries and ice-cream, like bagels and sandwiches, but I never actually ordered any, so I cannot give a vote. People seem to like it though. And no air conditioning, just a nice breeze, so nice not to be unnecessarily frozen! read more

Great working cafe. I spent four days working remotely here, and I can't recommend it enough. I liked the sandwiches, iced tea, and chai very much (not a coffee drinker, so can't comment on espresso used). It's a laid back environment where it's easy to sit at your laptop for hours, or just hang out with friends for a bit. The only limitation is the parking lot (can only park for three hours), but I just moved my car a few times when I had to. There are a lot of outlets and the WiFi is good. The staff is friendly and helpful. I'm sorry I was only here for vacation, as I'll miss the ambiance. read more

Im not a huge coffee or tea fan, but this place caught my attention! It's cute and smells divine!!! Its in the carlsbad "shopping center" kind of hard to locate if you're not frequent to the area and parking is a little hard to find. Im here on a Wednesday and the parking lot it full! But its worth it! Im trying the blended green tea latte and my uncle is trying the blended vanilla latte and i must say they are both delicious!!! :) im also trying the papaya pineapple ice cream and macadamia toffee nut ice cream! (Sweets are my weakness) my uncle got the chocolate peanut butter ice cream and all three flavor are amazing! For all of the i paid a little under $20!!! What a steal! Went in today and was approached by an employee around 1:30 and he said, "this is for paying customers and you've been here 2 hrs." I had appointments at Palomar Airport Rd. and the 5 at 11:30 and 12:00, then drove there. When I said no I have not he said yes you have. Why combative? He could've said, "Excuse me sir, just to let you know our Cafe has free internet and is for paying customers, I just wanted to let you know for next time." The first thing that I will say about this place: its on the upper level of the shop area. This was a bit confusing for someone just walking around on the streets without a map of the area, and we walked past it a few times before we actually found it. The shop had a really awesome beach ambience to it, with free wi-fi, and outlets EVERYWHERE (Nicely done Vinaka!) The baristas were friendly and knowledgable, as well as accommodating to what might have been a bit of an uncommon order for the shop. I got a quad-ristretto-shot vanilla soy latte (hot of course) and my companion got a Mocha with a bit of vanilla (hot as well). The soy latte was everything that i was hoping for, albeit a bit too hot to drink immediately. This was my only complaint. The mocha, however was absolutely amazing. My companion is not a regular coffee drinker, and within two sips stated "This is the best coffee I've ever had!" After having a sip myself, the first thing I could think was that they must have used actual chocolate morsels or something to melt into the mocha, though admittedly, i didn't watch the preparation of the drink, so i can't say either way. It was the perfect blending of flavor, and totally awesome. If i ever need to write any food reviews or papers etc. in carlsbad again, I will definitely be found at Vinaka. read more

I am a cbad local and came here for over 15 years until tonight. After spending $20 on coffee and drinks. One of their drinks was not made the same, my 6 yr old daughter tried to change, she came back in tears and said the man said no. So I went up to the counter and said I wanted to buy a hot chocolate. He gave me a look. So I said I cant believe u wont exchange the drink. He then said well if I ran my biz on kids likes and dislikes I would be out of biz. Total attitude. Rude and just plain shocked and diappointed to find out that was the owner. I will never give that mans company my money again. Just rude and not friendly to a loyal customer or child. So sad. I have never written a bad review but this offended me so much by his lack of customer service and attitude. Yes the employees all take their time helping people and never go out of their comfort zone in customer service but really can u blame them when this guy is the owner? I myself own my own biz so this is something I learned a long time ago, u go above and beyond u gain so much more in many areas...hopefully he will learn that as well. read more
