I had read a review from a friend who knows his Italian food so on our way home from a retail stop in Lakewood, we took the slow route up Kipling to Wheat Ridge. We enjoyed our lunch as the food was good and the staff so friendly. It reminded me, in a good way, of some old school Italian neighborhood eateries on Long Island 40 years ago. Simple tasty food and pastries and the retail shop set up for Christmas specialties. I miss some of these things where I live now, with meatball sandwiches either cheap chains or very much too heavy on garlic. Today's was very good, a soft warm roll, with tender tasty meatballs, a neutral and tomato dominant flavor and melty mozzarella. They offer various sides as options on the plate so my husband chose the fries over chips or peppers. They were beautiful fresh potato, skin on fries. He ate both of our portions as they had nicely split the meal for us I eat small lunches and rarely allowed anything fried. I would have eaten my share if I "could" have. The woman at the neighboring table saw the arrive and ran back to the counter to change her order for her side to be fries, as she had missed it on the list! They quickly accommodated her as you would expect from a family operated business. On the way out we decided to get some pastries to take home. I always order cannoli when available and the had so many flavors. I always take the traditional with ricotta based filling and chocolate on the ends. I have usually had the flavoring of the ricotta cream as vanilla based most of the year and citrus and candied rind in the cream near Christmas as my local Italian bakeries of my youth were owned by Sicilian immigrants who have their own style of pastries. This cannoli had filling that was Amaretto predominant, quite surprising to me. We also bought some cookies too. I chose a favorite almond style with sliced nuts on top and a gentle amount of almond paste inside, nicely subtle and chewy without being over flavored as the cannoli. The other cookies were the same dough batter with either a lemon or cherry jam dollop in the center. If we. On my way! This way again, we will certainly stop in. The Italian pastas and other breads and holiday treats are easily available in Boulder where we live. The eating area was certainly ample for a late lunch like we had today and the drinks were self serve from machines in the dining area and the place was spotless as it appeared that they both delivered the food and bussed the tables with staff. A lot of the other customers were locals well known by the staff. If I lived closer or came this way frequently, I would stop in again. read more

Once again we went to Vinnola's to pickup an order we placed for two sandwiches. Consistently for some time Vinnola's has been very good with its sandwiches. We've been there several times for them and every time they have not disappointed us. They have a very nice selection of sandwiches but both of us have our favorites. Mine is the reuben and it remains a top notch item. We ordered online and the food was ready for us upon our arrival. My spouse ordered the turkey panini which is her favorite. These are outstanding sandwiches and we always look forward to them. Vinnola's has much more than sandwiches. They have salads and cookies and lasagna and more! Inside the place looks great and has many Italian products for sale. They are all displayed for you to browse as you shop. Now my reuben was magnificent! The panini was perfect too! Naturally we scarfed them down and each comes with chips. There is a place to eat but today we picked up the order and came home. If I need a special pasta, they have it. The market portion has a great selection of canned and dry goods. There is an entire fridge/freezer section of ready to bake pastas and sausage rolls. There is a seating area for dine-in and a menu for carry out. The dessert case is a feast for the eyes. Today I was looking for a few special pastas for upcoming dinners. I went looking for real imported Italian pasta -- it just tastes better and I'm glad I found Vinnola's. They had a nice selection of some of my favorites, plus other things that I didn't know I should get. The grocery store has lots of stuff from fresh Italian sausage, to pastas, homemade tomato sauce, olives, and pastries to name a few. They also make sandwiches to order -- hot paninis or cold subs. You want Italian food, you head to Vinnola's. This place is a Wheat Ridge staple, but honestly I've been driving from Denver for over 20 years to get food and imported Italian goods here. Their red sauce is full of depth and flavor. Their selection of imported Italian food is carefully procured but their homemade refrigerated and freezer section is where you want to stock up. The deli counter has great service with delicious homemade food (the sausage sandwich is unique and a must try) and there is plenty of seating in the cute dining area adjacent to the deli counter and marketplace. The baked goods are authentic and there is a big variety, though I haven't tried any recently. On my next visit, I'm definitely ordering some gelato and a pizza or salad. They also have a few Italian brands of gluten free pasta available. I bought the Sogno Toscano Gluten Free Spaghetti and made it at home with my homemade sauce and it tasted delicious and fresh. My panini was great and so was the meal my girlfriend ordered. We also got deserts(cannoli, pastry) and coffee after our meals which were fantastic. The staff was helpful and very friendly. They made me feel like I was a regular customer even though it was my first time here. You can see by the way they interacted with their customers they really cared I even overheard staff asking one customer how his family was doing. A nice family environment from a nice family owned place. They had a good selection of of ethnic items in their market section along with a large lunch menu and plenty of seating off to the side so you can sit and enjoy your meal. If you order in they bring your food to your table and check up to make sure you have everything you need. All around a fantastic experience, great environment and hometown feel. I've been coming to Vinnolas for many years now, always amazed by the food, the wide selection of imported goods and great service. the ambiance is definitely "mom and pop" but i've never had an issue with that, and in fact, quite enjoyed it. But recently i had an experience that was quite lackluster to say the least, i don't normally leave reviews but i felt compelled to bring this to attention, i was helped by a kind woman who was around my age and very nice, but i noticed that one of the older men working there (was wearing a hat) seemed to be one of the fakest people i've seen working in this industry, overly friendly (a little loud too) and seemed to drop his smile the moment he walked away from customers, i saw him quite aggressively talk to some of the other employees and tend to just walk around whilst the others were working. now i don't own a business nor a restaurant but i felt very uncomfortable about the entire environment of the front of house employees. I love Vinnolas and i hope many more generations will be able to enjoy it for years to come. but it might take me a little while to feel comfortable going back... read more

When I walked into Vinnola's, I was really excited to browse their shelves and see all of the Italian products they had for sale. They also have many freshly baked cookies, breads, pastries, and sandwiches available as well. Everyone was very friendly, and I felt very welcomed by the atmosphere and workers at the market. On my most recent visit, I purchased some pastries, which included some cream puffs and cannolis. The cannolis looked wonderful, as it seems that they make the shells there fresh! However, they do fill them ahead of time, which does cause the cannoli to be somewhat mushy if you don't eat them right away. I was disappointed to taste them though, as they tasted heavily of almond extract, which seemed to deter from the flavor of an original creamy mascarpone and ricotta cannoli. I was looking for some Italian takeout in the area, which mostly has some abysmal options. This was a happy surprise. My husband went in and picked up a a selection for dinner later which included vegetarian lasagne, manicotti, garlic bread, and some dessert including tiramisu. Both pasta dishes were generous portions and made with good ingredients (fresh spinach in lasagnas). I only wished they had encouraged my husband to get the homemade marinara to pair with the pastas.
