After a fun weekend in San Antonio, we had a 4 hour wait for our flight. It seems that terminal has a much better quality of restaurants to choose from. So in classic fashion we leaned on our fellow Yelpers reviews and found this gem. It looked so good that we walked out of the next terminal and back through the security check just to give this a shot. Wow we hit a home run! Got here just in time to get the last table available. There aren't a lot of tables so be prepared. Even though it's an airport this little wine shop really takes you away. Our server was awesome and very attentive. Now one confusing note is their menus seem to change a lot. So the menus we saw on Yelp were outdated. Be prepared to make a change if you look at the menu ahead of time. On this night there wasn't much food available. So we chose the Butchers Board and we each had a flight of tastings. The wine was really good. So good that we will buy some from a local wine store. Loved the butchers board too! Just enough of an appetizer but didn't hit that dinner spot we were looking for. Overall, a great refuge from a crazy travel day. read more

Not to speak ill of the soon to be dead, but this location is closing and their capabilities reflect such. I had hoped for a sandwich, the only options I were given were a cheese plate or a charcuterie at $25. When it came out, the charcuterie was in two plastic Tupperware tubs with plastic silverware as if to go. I asked "what is this?" and she said, "we have no dishwasher so we have no dishes." I stopped in waiting for my flight to leave. It's pretty good, I like how it separates the wine into groups and gives you the option to get a glass or try all in that group. I had the west coast kings. They were all good, surprisingly I enjoyed the Pinot Noir best. I typically lean towards Cabernets when I order wine. I like how the wine is presented on the slab with info about each wine. I also did the Taste of Texas. That was so so, too many flavors and spices thrown in. I didn't try any food so I can only comment on the wine. The staff was very friendly and attentive. If I have time in between flights here, I'd come back. If your at the airport and have extra time to kill, this is where to wait. It's away from the busy rushing loud crowds. Each small table for 2 has an electrical outlet next to it so you can charge up while you enjoy a great glass of wine and some food. I'm not going to lie it was a bit pricey but what do you expect is in the airport, but I didn't mind the price to get away from the crowds. And service was very nice and attentive, food was good, used a plastic plate but with actual silverware, and I really liked the wine I drank. I'd wait here again on my next trip. read more

While I was sitting at my table, I could clearly hear my waitress mocking me to another server simply because I ordered water instead of alcohol. For the record, it was a Fiji water that I bought, and the person I was with ordered wine. But even if I hadn't -- so what? The fact that she felt entitled to talk down about a paying customer right in earshot is beyond unprofessional. It's cruel, judgmental, and shows a shocking lack of respect. She has no idea why I wasn't drinking -- I could be on medication that doesn't allow it, trying to get pregnant, a recovering alcoholic, or simply choosing not to drink. None of those reasons should ever open someone up to mockery, and to be judged and made fun of for it is just despicable. No guest should ever be made to feel lesser for what they choose to order. They opened early which was great for those who want Whataburger for breakfast followed by a bunch of wine before a flight. If you're one of those people, then kudos to you to not caring about the clock! I like how different Vino Volos have different flights so if you're lucky enough to be in an airport that has a V.V., you have the option of finding something new you might like. I have spent many a hours in airports as well as plenty of time in Vino Volo's but this location in San Antonio was fantastic. The airport was so crowded but there was space in this restaurant. The bartenders were so friendly but what surprised me more than that was the quality of the food. I had a Mediterranean plater that was out of this world and made me want to recreate it at home. The other guests were happy to be there and they were happy to chat and engage. I love that the bartenders made great suggestions about the wine and all around were just great hosts. Our flights were delayed but they made the time pass with ease. I look forward to my next trip in October. read more

I came here during my recent business trip. They opened right at noon, and the young woman working was opening all on her own. I couldn't believe how quickly she got the shop opened and started serving. I had the Cava, which was fantastic, and the avocado toast, which was fine. I didn't come to Velo Vino for the food, I came for the wine, and it was perfect. We have a new Velo Vino in OKC and I'm so excited to have it. Ours is big and open, unlike this one that was little and but stuffy. But I was thankful to see it open, thankful for the drink, the fast and friendly service, and the place to sit that wasn't out in the big middle of everything. Of all the places to dine at this airport, this was THE best option at 9pm and I was quite surprised. The food was fresh and actually good. The chili was hot and a little spicy. I could tell it had been slow cooked, the flavors had so many levels to it. I just loved it. To tame the spice, I ordered the prosciutto and Brie sandwich. It came on a soft and fresh ciabatta roll. There was a lightly sweet fig spread on it that was just awesome. So simple and fresh and yet so good. It was so refreshing to find actual good fresh food that wasn't fried, or sad looking, at the airport. Also, it wasn't crowded and quite tranquil. The music was soothing and for a second I forgot I was even at the airport. They offer WiFi and usb charging outlets at all the tables too. Not hungry? Maybe I need a refill? This is a chain you will see from airport to airport. Usually, I hit up anywhere else. I just don't like the false tasting room atmosphere and somewhat held back pours. Still, there isn't much at this airport so maybe it is the best choice available. I will be honest that I didn't have a ton of time to poke around. The service was alright. A little slow. I wasn't greeted, until my order was taken. It wasn't very busy but I did get checked up upon. I ordered their "signature wine" aka the house grog. I thought it clever and funny at the time to see what this place fancied their signature. My mistake. It wasn't great. But like a chump when asked how I liked my wine, I replied yes. I sorta hate myself every time I do that. I guess I find having such a conversation under a time crunch to be worse than the burn of the wine? I didn't eat here and it could have been my devil may care choice. I dunno. Give it a whirl if you at least want to sip your wine in peace and relative civility. The guy running the place was incredibly gracious and offered us drinks and any food we wanted could be packaged to go. We're vegetarian so we opted for the margherita flatbread. Now, I probably would have spent at least $15 in another restaurant restaurant and left with gut rot. However, I was delighted at Vino Volo. The food was fresh, healthy and affordable. A trinity - FTW! I saw plenty of folks doing the same and some coming in for take out or to buy a bottle or two of wine. If you're hanging out in SATX, definitely give Vino Volo a try. I have been to two different vino volos before...one in Oakland and one in Seattle. Both of those were great. While this is supposed to be a consistent formulaic venue so you know what you're getting, I have to say that this one far lags the others. First, I didn't even realize that we ordered the exact two food items that we ordered in Seattle and Oakland. That being the fig, brie and prosciutto sandwich and the salmon rolls. Only the salmon rolls tasted consistent. There was something strange with the prosciutto and it just didn't taste as good. We also tried a flight again and the server seemed really harried. He was the only person working the store and it wasn't crowded but he seemed distracted. It really affected the quality of the experience. But the biggest difference here is that the chairs are all really uncomfortable. They are plastic chairs like in any other airport dining place. I seem to recall some recliner style comfy chair where you could really relax and enjoy your wine at the other ones. Gloria's Mexican across the way was a nicer atmosphere with friendlier service. Not to mention that the prices at vino volo somehow seemed steeper this time (I suspect it was due to the size of the pours). I've probably been in SAT about ten times this summer. The wine selection is great for an airport. The little flights are great. The food is OK. The last time I ate here my lamb meatballs tasted like a microwave dinner. I was hungry though and hate fast food, so we aren't breaking up over it. I'll always love the Bethesda MD location most. I wish they would be in each and every airport. I love tasting wines (I prefer to taste many different wines instead of drinking a lot of the same wine), so this place is ideal - their tasting flight menu lists about 8 different tasting flight options at any given time. Trying 3 different white wines in a flight for $9 beats that bottle of water for $5 hands down for me. You can of course have a glass, and - you can even buy a bottle (you are paying paying premium over buying the same wine in the store, but it is very small and reasonable). Food is very tasty.
