A very cute small Vietnamese place in Streeterville near Water Tower serving pho, bahn mi, and bubble tea. I came here to grab a quick bite while my boyfriend was getting his haircut a couple blocks away. The bbq bahn mi hit the spot for me even though I'm usually not a bbq person. The price is actually pretty reasonable given the location downtown. I think it's only like $1-2 higher than places in Argyle so I was pretty satisficed with the price. Super friendly people and quick with the orders. I stopped by Sunday around noon and they weren't busy at all. There were like 2-3 tables of people so very nice and quiet for a quick sit down lunch. One of the better banh mi's I've had in Chicago! The texture of the bread is good, fluffy and slightly crisp on the outside. The ingredients tasted fresh and well balanced, but I personally thought there was a little too much bread for the amount of filling. I've come here three times in a week mainly for the food, which could easily be ordered ahead online through Clover and makes for a great lunch option. They also have ample seating for dine-in. BAHN MI Fresh baguette, delightfully tart pickled vegetables and char-grilled pork (you can really taste the char!) come together for a well balanced, nearly packaged sandwich that's great value for the price. I don't like leaving negative reviews but I have to tell people because the reason why I even came to this place was because the reviews made it look like it was worth it. Well, it's not. The food was bland and thats being kind. Plus, they added a ton of heat to it that i almost choked. Spicy should always be disclosed. There were other items marked as spicy on the menu but this Signature Banh Mi sandwich (marked as the favorite on the menu) was definitely not. It would have been nice to know ahead of time. I dealt with it cuz I was starving. The other problem was there wasn't nearly enough contents, let alone meat on the sandwich to necessitate the price. It one one very expensive bread roll! There was one thin slice of ham and 1 thin slice of pork...supposedly. Something looked shredded though. Then there was the boba tea --- the beverage love of my life. I've had many that were fantastic and varied over the years. But then I've had some that were watered down and poorly flavored...and that was this one! I had the brown sugar milk tea with tapioca pearls. What a huge disappointment. To make matters worse, this was marked as the favorite on the menu too. If both of the items that are touted to be the best are actually terrible... What can be said about the other items on the menu. That being said, after I had placed my order to go, I noticed there was a second floor. Since the few tables on the first floor were taken, I asked to change my order to dine in and the girl at the counter acknowledged it. However, when my food was ready she handed me a sandwich wrapped in paper. The place was clean enough (only one table hadn't been cleared for maybe 20min or so). Note that there was only music on the 1st floor, so the 2nd floor was dead quiet. It didn't matter to me since I was using my earbuds anyway, but fair warning if you're with someone and don't wish to have other people hearing every word you say. Being able to customize the level of sweetener, and with/without dairy milk or alternative milk is a plus. If I had it to do over again, I would probably have checked out the menu online as I spent a lot of time studying the menu in the store. I called and placed an order for the dragon lychee tea with coconut jelly, special banh mi, and egg rolls. I have to admit that this was surprisingly good for the area. I honestly have to admit some of the best crispy egg rolls I have had. The sandwich was pretty good, and surprised that they had pate in it. This is the very reason I ordered from here as many other spots in the city make banh mi sandwiches without it and that to me is not a banh mi. The drink of course hit the spot. For starters this place is squeaky clean. I love walking into a restaurant and it feels like they have a cleaning system. I love this place! Great viet food, which is so hard to find in the river north area. If you're in the area, please stop by and check them out!! Their banh mi is amazing! I always get the signature, grilled pork, or the char siu! Always packed with meat and veggies. One day I will try all of them! The combination fried rice is also great! This place was okay but there's alot of other spots that think would be a better use of money. My medium peach oolong tea with tapioca was 7 dollars and it tasted fine but it wasn't great. They had put an orange slice in there and so you could really taste the pulp fragments from the orange after it was shaken up which was not my favorite. I asked if they had a wifi connection (as most places do), and this young Asian man with round glasses told me he didn't know and basically gestured me to go away. Then, he came up to me and told me that I could only sit in the store if I was a customer. I clearly ordered something and the workers knew it. I didn't get an apology and I left the store. I'm an Asian customer and I have had fair amount of milk tea in my life (lived in Orange County and San Jose Bay Area in the past). I am visiting Chicago with my fiancée and we were fortunate to stay at a nearby hotel to VinTea. First few places we hit up was Chicago Chinatown and it's plethora of mild tea places such as Daboba, tiger milk tea, etc. I was not impressed with those places after trying them. I did decide to give this place a try despite only having 17 reviews since it was near my hotel. Let me tell you something, this place blows the other so-called "popular well known" milk tea places out of the water. I tried the mango fruit tea and my fiancée tried the Vin signature mild tea AND lemongrass fruit tea. All 3 drinks were delicious! We even made an effort to drop by this place for another drink before heading to the airport to fly back home to Bay Area. Overall, I really like the lemongrass fruit tea (for those that is ok with the mild lemongrass flavor/scent) Lastly, the cashier was extremely sweet and very nice! Decided to stop by for a quick lunch after class from Loyola and mind you it's a close walk after getting off the shuttle bus or if your on the water tower campus it's right down the street.
