Very good selection. This is one of my stops whenever I get enough money and want to go vinyl hunting. I collect mostly classic rock vinyl and this place satisfies most my needs. Decent pricing but they have a lot of the records I'm looking for. This place was the only place I found a perfect condition of Pipers at the Gate of Dawn by Pink Floyd. One of the best record stores anywhere. If you're into punk, hardcore, New Wave, goth, etc, this place is your mecca. When I first moved to CA and asked what good record stores are in the area, every single person said "Vinyl Solution". Not only do they have a GREAT selection of current stuff, but the out of print stuff they get in is ridiculous. Where else can you see a Minor Threat - Out of Step first press AND Filler 3rd press on the wall and for sale and lower than ebay prices? Not many places. I've never had a bad experience here. All the staff I've ever dealt with is a true music lover and can handle conversations about anything. The owner is great and is the same way. I once got into an hour long conversation with him about Kraftwork and from that conversation, he suggested I check out a few other bands and I did and it was awesome. Sure stuff like this can be done on the internet, but it's not the same. Keep up the good work guys! read more

I remember coming here when it first opened. It must have been '88 or '89. We would come by after school and browse the used tape and LP bins and Drak would hand out bottles of RC Cola. I was shocked, and pleasantly surprised, to find out that the shop was still open when I drove past this weekend. It took me awhile to find this little store, drove passed it...u turned...FYI it is by the Ihop. Mostly punk rock stuffs here, but I did manage to get a Fleet Foxes vinyl ( $20.99), woo. Probably one of my go-to vinyl shops in Orange County. Vinyl Solution offers a pretty wide array of punk rock, classic rock and heavy metal to go around. I walked in and happened to find quite a few rare LPs that have been on my radar. They don't necessarily have the greatest selection I've seen, but they do have a handful of gems you cannot find anyplace else. The dude who worked there was pretty chill and was down to help me find something special, even though I was just browsing around. I found myself a pretty great copy of Bob Dylan's Blood on the Tracks, as well as a clean repressing of Suicidal Tendencies' self-titled album. Since the Dylan record was used, he slashed the price in half for me, and I left the store with a pretty great deal on two great records. Definitely recommend this spot if you're in the area for some great music. read more

Best record store I've ever been in. They have clean original promotional store copies not originally intended for resale of bands like AC/DC and others. Got my Blondie and Ramones vinyls here along with the mountain of cassettes I have accumulated from this place. Dude you might be a hater on this spot but damn! Its the best shop in town and you know it! I've walked in with 40 bucks left with 3 stacks of blues and rare surf rock. From punk to rancheras they got great stuff on the cheap side come in when there's no one in there so you can really dig and look without having to hear the annoying chick talk about how much she loves Marley and how sublime changed her life . I don't know if they're just wiped out from Christmas or what but I was pretty disappointed with my trip here today. They had a few records I was interested in (Screamers and Adverts records for $25-35) but nothing I absolutely needed right then and there and I, sadly, left empty handed. To make matters worse one of the records I thought about buying here was $6 cheaper at another record store I went to afterwards. Maybe some of these salty Yelp reviews are true in that this place has gone downhill. Today it definitely wasn't the great punk record store I hoped it was. read more

Stopped by here after a beach walk the other day. I'd read some of the reviews here before doing so. The guy who was working at the time I showed up was really nice, cool, and laid back who made friendly small talk while I perused their CD selection. I don't know if he was the owner or just an employee, but I didn't get any of the unfriendly vibes others have complained about. Quite the opposite, in fact. Don't know what happened with the other reviewers, maybe there's a disgruntled employee here that happened to have the day off that I showed up? Also worthy of note is I didn't see any sort of "white supremacist" or "skinhead" BS others have complained about. This is just your run of the mill used record store as far as appearances are concerned. I'm not sure what it was that people saw, but I'm wondering if it isn't the case of an overly sensitive individual blowing things out of proportion. Can't help but wonder. Anyway, now that that's been dealt with, on to the selection. I don't do vinyl, so I can't comment on how they do in that department, but from the looks of things they have QUITE the extensive selection. Couldn't tell you if their vinyl prices are good or not as I have no frame of reference. I came strictly for the CDs. MAN, what a pleasant surprise! Their CD selection is actually pretty small relatively speaking compared to what they offer in vinyl, and compared to other similar independent outfits. But the prices are UNREAL! I walked out with five albums on CD for $7 (that's seven dollars) and change. And it was good stuff, too -- REM, 3 Doors Down, Everclear, etc.... By far the best prices on used CDs that I've ever seen, anywhere. I'd say over 50% of their used CDs are priced at $0.99 (that's ninety nine cents). Let me tell you, this is the way it SHOULD be. Everywhere. CDs have been overpriced since their introduction years ago, considering it costs less than a dime to manufacture a disc. I can't help but think of a certain used record store in Ocean Beach that charges around $10 a piece for the same used albums in the same condition. But I digress. They had lots of other good stuff on CD, but a lot of it I already owned. The stuff was all in really good condition too, discs are pristine, artwork/inserts intact and like new. The only thing keeping this place from a full 5 stars is the fact that the CD selection is, like I mentioned, somewhat small. For music fans who still collect CDs as I do, if you're say, spending a day at the beach I highly recommend you stop by and check this place out on your way out. You could probably buy a few albums just using the change under the seat in your car. read more

This shop needs to be preserved by the city! Ive been coming here ever since I could drive. 1994 from Santa Fe Springs, and have seen this place really not change since then....which is awesome. The owner has always been very friendly to me and always seems to remember who I am. They staff has changed throughout the years but everyone who Ive ever delt with is always willing to help. I've visited a fair number of record stores in the LA/OC area, and this place has remained a mainstay for me. As far as I can tell, there is no store better for finding rare punk/hardcore/new-wave. Their stock is a bit cluttered with cheesy, cheaply printed bootlegs and some of their items are overpriced, but even if they didn't have what I came in to find. I ALWAYS leave with something really cool and really rare and they're pretty good about negotiating prices if you plan on making some decent purchases. The staff are pretty cool and friendly and they love talking music with customers. Sometimes they talk with each other too much about inter-store employee drama while you're trying to shop, and that can be sort of awkward, but for the gems I have found, its been totally worth it.
