I had been mulling over doing something like getting my nails done to treat myself for the first time since COVID struck, but wasn't sure where I could find that was nearby and could take me last minute. A little bit of internet searching led me to the website for VIP Nails & Spa. As I was roaming the aisles at the grocery store, I decided sure, why not? It was 10 AM, I booked a slot for 12:30. I got an email confirmation of my appointment request, and then a few minutes later, a confirmation that I could come in. Apparently I was a little bit antsy to do this for the first time in a post-COVID age, because I got there at noon but was immediately greeted, welcomed in, and asked to pick a color from what I thought was a very decent selection of shades for shellac. As I always had when I did this before, I took forever to decide (sorry!) Finally, I picked my color and sat down, but waited less than two minutes before I was called over to come sit down and get my nails done by a gentleman (I'm so sorry again, I forgot his name but hopefully when I come back again, I get his name so I can update the review). He was extremely pleasant, especially because my nails were pretty uneven, and I really just wanted them to be even with the length of the longest natural nail I had. (Spoiler alert, the tips on my pinkies, upon further scrutiny after I walked out, were a little longer than I expected, but this is fully my fault because I was asked several times how I liked the length as the tips were shaped, and it's just a tiny bit that I didn't notice until later). The location is really conveniently situated for me, and the interior temperature was perfectly maintained so it was still comfortable to be inside while I had my mask on, and I deeply appreciate also that everyone had their masks on without complaint or incident unless they were slipping them down for a sip from their complimentary drink. Plenty of parking, well lit, everyone was spaced out so this is a place where I feel comfortable going even in the COVID age. My nails came out nicely! I didn't ask for anything beyond basics, shellac with a few tips applied for my uneven nails, and they were perfect for me. Between working in a healthcare setting and being mom to a four-year-old, I didn't need anything crazy and very much appreciated not being pushed to get more done than I asked for, which is something I have experienced in a lot of places. I understand others may be bigger mani/pedi connoisseurs who are more persnickety about their nails, but I just needed something nice-looking, low maintenance, and little bit of time away from the working mom grind. VIP Nails & Spa definitely delivered and I will absolutely be back! (P.S. They have a rewards program, so I signed up!) read more

I love this spot! I always make an appointment online, which is super easy. I've never had an issue with waiting when I make an appointment. I would usually get nudes/gray before I came here because it didn't seem like other places could do more than simple polish, but this place can do the cute stuff! I've loved my nails every time! read more

Visited Friday for Shellac and will not return It began with the tech removing my cuticles which were not bad to begin with as I had received a manicure in my regular spot just two weeks ago but she ripped one off causing my finger to bleed then proceeded to dab it with tissue - at which pint she was not wearing any gloves. This causes me to question the hygiene practice at the location The polish they use is not a top brand like OPI or Shellac and not sure if it's because of a cheaper product or lack of skills but in just two days it's peeling up from the edges which are rough and uneven - Shellac usually lasts me a couple of weeks no problem - but this is a poor job and I doubt it will last a week yet their prices are certainly not the cheapest. I would be happy to pay the $35 if it was avoid job and good product but it's not The place is also jam packed with stations with stuff everywhere - certainly not a clean relaxed feel. This was my go to place and haven't been there since March and finally made it back!!! Temperature was checked upon entry appointment time, walked right to my designated seat, plexi glass between me and nail technician, mask mandatory, all patrons and employees were wearing. I made the first avaviable appointment when they opened so it was too busy. After my mails were done, I did see an employee clean the area after I left but can't say what it was cleaned with. Hand sanitizer provided at cashier. Practiced social distancing. They seem to be doing a good job. Glad they are able to open and still operating read more

At least 6 times I have booked an appointment and had to wait 20-40 mins. As a long time customer I caught on a long time ago but I kept giving them the benefit of the doubt. The owners are just liars, and it's unfortunate because the workers are very nice. Lying to customers that you have available appointment appointment times is greedy, and should be stopped. I really used to like this place. read more

I like this place but in my opinion this place is a little over priced. The people are nice and I know that they offer drinks for people over 21. They also offer %10 discount for students that attend Johnson High School, which I'm not sure I received. Other than that I liked my nails and had a great experience for my first time getting acrylics. I got French ombré acrylic nails and they were $60 not including tip. read more

We went around Christmas . The experience itself was just ok . Nothing great . The inside was clean . My drink was not very good - very very strong but if you like it strong then you'll like em here . About a week later my nails starting chipping . I reluctantly returned today ... one of the employees recognized me from my previous review but didn't say anything ...I walked in and he saw my hand and immediately knew who I was by my nails or my hand or my ring idk what the distinguishing feature was. He brought me a hot coke and when I asked for a cup of ice he walked over and said now what do you want ? I nicely showed him he handed me. Room temperature can of soda . He played as if he wasn't able to tell when he hand delivered it with no gloves in. Pro tip: not many people enjoy a hot coke. Today my nail tech was rough on my fingers she squeezed them hard while working on me . Another thing is I think it's rude to speak another language in front other people . It's one thing to exchange quick banter to another to fully converse almost the whole entire time . My tech the whole time was speaking with her coworker what was being said idk. I was polite I said please thank you ect . My guess is I upset her by how hard she squeezed my fingers I asked for a rainbow on my nail and I got a weird attempt for a rainbow . I also asked how much it would be and I ended up getting charged more then estimated . I paid $75 for a new set with this one rainbow .. All in all just not pleased. Shoddy work. People and service skills are lacking . I was asked to come back after my past experience (it was bad too) thank you for inviting me back to pay yet again for awful experience . I posted a review and owner asked for me to come back only to over charge . We won't be back . There's too many nail places here In stone oak area .. I'll be looking for another place . I honestly don't think I've ever had such a terrible experience at a nail salon. I am visiting some family on this side of town and only had a small window to get my nails done. I was not greeted when entering and when I decided on the color for my shellac change the lady's response was, "Why that color? It's so boring!" I told the nail lady that I was previously hurt on my pinky a month ago in another salon and right away, she thought I had accused her of the incident, which I hadn't. I had requested square-rounded nail shape which I believe she didn't understand because that's not what I got. Also, my nails are ALL different lengths. I chose a white nail color, which now I regret because she only applied 2 coats and I feel like I could have used a third. During the application of the second coat, I noticed that there was lines on some of my nails and let her know about it. She seemed very frustrated with me throughout the entire process. I had been there for over an hour and a half at this point. I was not happy with the over all product. Not to mention, there was no manager on duty. Although, Eric was nice about the situation and told me to come back to make it right which I thought was a nice gesture. Lack of customer service. read more

I got a pedicure here and the final look was beautiful. In fact people asked me a lot where I got them done and told me they look very high end. The only thing I didn't like was they failed to tell me as a first time customer that the gel polish was $25 more. If I had known that I would have opted for regular polish. I don't like surprises like that. Outside of this issue the overall finish of my toes was beautiful. read more

I've come here before but this time I wish I had gone somewhere else. Got SNS on hands polish on toes. As soon as I sat down, they started working on both my hands and my feet. I had to reach across for my hand away from the tech to be worked on which put me in an uncomfortable position with added discomfort from holding my arm in that awkward position. Did not enjoy either service. The color on my toes was a bad job. The color was so thick, the tech had to thin it with polish remover which then made the polish so thin it didn't coat well. The first toe nail done was super bulky and didn't look smooth. I pointed this out, she removed color, then could not get the color to coat well. I asked for a newer polish, they didn't have it in stock. They did offer a different color, I like my nails to match so this wasn't an option. If your polish is old, throw it out, thinning out the product is not ideal. read more

This establishment has bad customer service and rushes through their process. They rushed me into choosing a color and wouldn't agree to the type of French I was asking for. Pedicures are subpar and they don't spend any time getting off dead skin or callus at all. Children's Pedi for a male was just as much as an adult pedi and they didn't even use any polish or extra product other than soap and lotion. I've given this place two try's and I definitely won't make it a third. Lastly, they won't fix any corrections even within a 12 hour period. read more

I've been coming here since they opened. Just returned after taking a break due to covid and glad They were able to expand. Place looks great! They offer new drink options and have private area for no extra charge. (Will plan a future event!) They give discount for birthdays and point system is awesome! I switch around with people but glad they still Kept main employees. I prefer dip nails and pedicure services but have tried all types of nails and have been very pleased. I've several friends that go to VIP too. read more

My friend and I stopped in yesterday for a pedicure. I have been here once about a year ago and had a great pedicure but, the guy that did not pedicure left so I have not been back until yesterday. Greeted by friendly staff. We were sat down immediately after picking our color polish. Both of our ladies were nice and did a great job. They offered us margaritas to drink but, it was in the middle of the day and we just finished eating lunch. (nice touch to offer drinks to relax) My preference is wine, not sure if they offer that. We stopped in around 2:30ish on a Tuesday and it was not busy. Good time to go. Will definitely go back for future pedicures. read more

This is the best nail salon I've been to from Tennessee, California, Oklahoma, and I have tried at least 5 different salons since I moved to San Antonio. I mean the service is amazing. I have been going here for 2 months and came in as a regular dip power. I had dip done at the other salons and never been satisfied. This salon dip technique is the best. Went to VIP Sunday after my horrible experience at DaVi nails.... Boy was I impressed! I went to Z and she made my nails whole again! Literally! They were so thin, out of shape and grown out (after a week and a half) that she had to work magic! She did an excellent job with not only the nails but the customer service! The thing that sealed the deal for me is the fact that they have a rewards program! Will be going there whenever I'm back in SA!!!! read more

Just finished getting my nails done here in order to fix what DaVi did and I am very unhappy. My hopes were very high and I was let down, I asked for a fill in and the same design I walked in with (easy design) and once again no one pushed back my cuticle or cut the dry skin around my nails so my fingers look horrible. Also ONCE AGAIN I got cut when they use the nail drill and ONCE AGAIN I was bleeding and they just kept working and applying acetone and buffing away mean while I'm in pain fighting tears. The design is VERY VERY sloppy and uneven. I will have to remove this and apply my own nail polish. I guess there aren't any good nail salons in San Antonio :(. On the other hand everyone else in the salon was getting a regular manicure with no design and theirs looked nice. So I guess acrylic and designs are their forte. read more

I was also planning to take advantage of the spa amenities afterward and grab lunch at one of the restaurants. About 10 minutes before my appointment, I put on my robe and headed to the waiting area. As my appointment time came and went, I watched every other guest get called back for their massages while I continued to wait. After another 10 minutes had passed, I finally went to the front desk to ask what was going on. The manager came out and informed me that there had been a miscommunication and my massage therapist was unable to make it to work that day. Unfortunately, there were no other therapists available and no alternative appointment times. I was simply told they were sorry and that I would need to reschedule. At that point, I broke down in tears. This wasn't just a massage, it was my birthday gift and my first opportunity to step away from the chaos and demands of postpartum life. Having that experience taken away without any notice was incredibly disappointing. To their credit, they did offer me a complimentary massage whenever I am able to rebook, which I appreciated and accepted. However, this was a very disappointing first impression. A simple phone call before I arrived could have saved me the time, effort, childcare arrangements, and emotional letdown.

After having us go to our chairs, the woman arrived and started his pedicure while I sat at my chair (no water in the bowl to at least relax and soak). I waited almost 15 more minutes for mine to start. This made no sense since I would need polish removal, polish application, and time to dry. In these situations, it would make the most sense for a salon to start on the customer whose service would take longer. Overall, it was a very basic experience. We will choose one of many other options the next time.
