The nail tech I got had bad service and equally bad attitude. She did not properly trim and cut cuticles. Came in for mani/pedi, when she could not "up sell" gel mani, service went down hill. This is a fantastic nail salon! It's super basic, but the service exceeded my expectations! The staff was very kind and friendly. They also made sure I was comfortable while I waited a few minutes and then when they got started. The clay used during my Raw Earth Mud pedicure felt incredible! I added the cuticle treatment and it was well worth the extra $5. The massage was also super relaxing and felt much longer than a typical salon where they only do it for a few seconds. I decided to give this place another try because a neighbor had told me they changed management earlier this year. I went in on Sat. Sept.12th for a pedicure & I was pleasantly surprised they have a new look, which includes new pedi chairs & tons of polish choices (including OPI - one of my favorite brands). The lady who did my pedi was good so because of that, I decided to make an appointment for a gel fill for my nails. I called on Thursday, September 17th & made an appointment for 6pm. Around 5:15pm, I got a call from the nail salon that they were running behind & asked if I could come in at 6:45pm. I thought that was cool that someone called rather than me show up & have to wait. Tranh is the owner who did my nails. She did a really good job. She did tell me that my previous nail tech from another salon didn't do a very good job so she had to take extra time to fix my acrylics. Her salon is pretty busy. Apparently she owned another salon in La Mesa & brought a lot of her customers to VIP. Her mother is actually the lady who gave me a pedicure on Saturday. I would give 5 stars but there are two reasons why I didnt. First, there were two school-age kids in the salon that belong to two of Tranh's employees. Now I have no problem with little kids or with them being in the salon. What bothered me is that they were playing on a tablet & a phone & they had the volume of their game at full blast. Their mothers didn't tell them to turn it down at all either. I just feel like getting your nails done at a salon should be a relaxing experience & the volume from phones & tablets should be muted or lowered. Secondly, it just seemed like the waiting area was messy. There were magazines all over the place & there were french fries under the waiting area chairs. They might have been from the kids but I feel like someone should be cleaning that area up to give a good first impression of cleanliness & organization to customers. This place has definitely improved & it'll be my new go-to nail salon. Hopefully my next appointment will be more relaxing. read more

Hidden gem on University. The staff and customers treated me like family on my very first visit. While my appointment took longer than it would have at another place, it was worth the wait. The technicians take their time to give you a perfect manicure. My gels lasted over a month before I saw any hint of wear and tear. I am not gentle on my nails in the least. Most gels are lucky if they survive a week on me. To top it all off, my manicure cost less than I usually pay. Highly recommend. read more

I came in today because I needed to change out my gel polish and I didn't want to go back to where I got it done. This is an honest business, and they provide STELLAR customer service. It's not a place where "it's good for the price you pay". It is a place that is outstanding on its own, and the bonus lies with the pricing. They have way more than fair prices for what you get. While I was there, everyone was friendly, there were ample selections for magazines if you need to wait a bit, and I was even offered water while I was being serviced! They gave me great advice, even if it meant they didn't profit from it. This is why they are HONEST, hard working people. Not only is the service great, but the QUALITY is great too! they took their time, never rushed me or the client before me. She has an abundance of great designs that she can do, you won't be disappointed! They never pushed me into services that I didn't need. I'm very picky with my nails, and I have to admit that they were so on point with everything! Their space and equipment were extremely clean, even the pedicure chairs have individual liners! Came in here at about 4:30 pm on a Saturday, they were noy that busy. I originally asked for a regular manicure and pedicure. However, before the manicurist started my manicure i asked her for a full set of white tips. She said ok we can do that, and continued filing my nails. Then towards the end, she asked me if i wanted regular polish or gel. I looked at her confused and again stated to her that i told her before it was supposed to be a full set and that she acknowledged this when i told her. Im assuming the woman who is the manager, stated that is not what i told her originally and that they wouldnt have time today since it was already 5:30pm and i would have to come back tomorrow. This is unacceptable because i had told the woman doing my manicure that i wanted a full set and she acknowledged. So now im stuck with half done nails because of their oversight and i dont have time to do it tomorrow. Not to mention the woman doing my pedicure stopped mid pedicure to answer her phone and have a full on conversation while not even focusing on my toes. Overall, im not sure if this was just a bad day for them or what but i do not plan on coming back ... EVER. read more

This place is bomb.com! Since a friend recommended this place I don't go anywhere else! Mimi does beautiful 3D designs. The shop itself is not flashy but the quality of the work the do makes up for it. The wait is normally pretty long its a small shop and there never seems to be 4-5 people working at a time. Not sure how this establishment has 4.5 out of 5 stars. I walked in as a first time customer with my sister, and There was only one person doing nails at the moment. Looking over the color wheels we both decided to do the chrome, we decided for the SILVER AND PINK HOLO NAILS. The nail tech told us she didn't know what color needed to be used before applying the holo glitter. She made a phone call and had it on speaker as we both sat in front of her. She asked whoever was on the other line what colors she needed to use to achieve the sample color. She was advised the black polish for the silver look and any pink color for the other. To sum it all up my nails turned out green with the black undercoat, And my sisters nails were lumpy from a side view and they were not chrome or holo whatsoever! They looked as if they only had a light sheen to them. When I told the tech that it wasn't the color I chose she repeated over and over that the next time I came In, she would do the color I was wanting.... umm okay. Not the customer service u would give a first time customer. We PAID 47$ for the full set and $37 for the fill in which both sets were the wrong color, and the quality of the work was awful. Not even 3 mins after walking out we had to return because of how they left our nails. Worse job I have ever gotten done. The tech wanted us to come back in a few hrs and than she would fix them. We could not as we had plans that afternoon. She fixed one set of nails however they still were terrible, and instead of a coffin shape they looked like chiclets gum. I would never come to this place again, or recommend to anyone. I went in very excited since they have good rating, however I walked out with green beatle nails. Maybe I came on the wrong day but a nail salon, in my opinion, should be relaxing. There are kids running around and technicians talking on their phone while working on clients and it's just LOUD AND HOT AND NOT VERY GOOD VENTILATION. I came in here for a quick Pedi while my husband got his hair cut, rest assure I won't be back. The Pedi came out really good which sucks because of the horrible atmosphere. Someone just went to get their eyebrows done in the waxing room and there's a girl laying in there on the table this entire time. So unprofessional!! Place had good reviews so I thought Id give it a try instead of going to my original nail salon that's a little out of the way for me. I called in to make a appointment they said they will have an open in one hr. I waited and came in the salon on time. We had to wait over 30 mins to even get helped.. they need to do better about time. They did pretty good on pedicures. But when it came to paint my nails they are still soft even after 6 hrs later... no little fans that can I can dry them in between coats when getting them painted, so now my nails are all messed and have to go get them fixed somewhere else.
