I wish I could give this place 0 stars. There part prices are insanely overpriced. They are charging criminal prices, $160 an hour for brake labor... I paid over $1400 to get all new brakes and then needed to get my wheel bearing fixed. They can't keep their paperwork straight, at first they told me the LF needed to be done and then when I went in they gave me paperwork that said they did the RF... And they can't figure it out... They replaced my wheel bearing and then not even a few days later my car was not safe to drive because they either didn't put caliper bolts back on or just didn't put them on tight enough. Thankfully, they towed my car to free of charge, and just replaced the cheap bolts. I didn't even receive an apology for the damage to my car or the inconvenience of not being able to drive for 4 days... DO NOT RECOMMEND, they take advantage of women! read more

And the one star is too much ! I went to VIP TIRE to get my car inspected, As I sat there waiting , we could see them through the window . A guy came out and said that he can't put a sticker on my car because the windows were to tinted . Mind you this is a SAFETY INSPECTION! We asked why and he said he couldn't tell it they were legal or not they just looked too tinted for them to pass the inspection. I'm like ( no wait ? You can't pass it because you are not sure if the tint is legal when it's a safety inspection NOT a legal inspection. Needless to say I highly recommend that NOBODY EVER GO THERE ! If they can't figure out that my windows tint is from the factory and not aftermarket, then they probably don't know what they are doing for any thing there ! read more

I've given this place 3 chances to fix my car. Every single time I've come here they've messed up my car more than it was to begin with. They also charge too much it's highway robbery. They've messed up my tires twice in a row and I swore I would never go here again. I recently had a scary moment with my car where my brakes were barely working so I felt I needed to go to the closest place which is unfortunately here for me. I go in and get my caliber brake pads and brake fluid replaced. Costed me $1800 and a week later my car was making worse noises than before. The people here are rude, they tried to move my appointment by an hour a minute before my previously scheduled appointment (I'm not exaggerating I was in the parking lot) so I just left my car there and they somehow got to it immediately. they don't value the customers time money or lives because they put no effort in fixing the most deadly vehicle in America. Wish I could give zero stars. I went to a different vip and when I told them about my tires they immediately asked if I went to the vip in old town because of how notoriously bad the service is in the mechanic world. Every time I talked about my car being messed up by a company every single person says "did you go to the VIP in old town?" Do not come here. One time while I was in there I overheard them trash talking management about being hard on them about nails laying around in the parking lot. Um yeah if you are a car repair place where people repair their tires, you really should fix that. read more

My daughter bought tire which came with free service. Each year when she goes to get her tires winter tires changed over they give her a list of things her car needs and she calls me. This time it was a battery and wipers and diagnose an oil leak. The wipers were already new, the battery test fine and there is no oil leak which they tried to pull last time also. Quit lying to young lady's to make a buck. read more

I am very disappointed in my experience here. Friends have told me to not get my car serviced because they rip off customers (especially women) if they think that you don't know much about cars. The guys here tried to tell me that it would cost me 1100 dollars to get my car serviced enough to pass inspection- this includes four new tires and a couple other parts. I was pretty confused by this because I had JUST bought two new tires within the last year. I pointed this out to them and only then did they realize they couldn't scam me out of that part. After I told a few of my friends, every. single. one. of. them. told me how much of a scam VIP stores were. I went and got a second opinion and the auto shop there charged me 400 bucks less because two of the parts didn't need to be changed after all. What a surprise. Don't go here. read more

The worst experience ever! These people are incompetent fools. They charged me a fortune and I've had numerous problems since they "worked" on my car. Now I have to replace the oil pan because they managed to screw up a simple oil change. STAY AWAY if you value your car, money, or time. read more

Recently brought my seven-year-old, very well-maintained car to this VIP for a routine vehicle inspection. I was told it failed inspection because the rear control arm bushings were in need of replacement. I just brought this same car to my trusted mechanic, they found absolutely nothing wrong with the bushings. It should be noted that I am a woman and brought my car in myself. The quote VIP gave me for replacing these bushings was almost $600. DO NOT trust these people to be honest, especially if you are a woman! read more

My daughter and I were on a college tour at UMaine from out of state. The battery symbol came on in our Jeep as we were getting ready to head home. I was worried because we had a 4 hour drive ahead of us. We immediately drove to VIP, as it was the nearest place we could find online. The Jeep died as soon as I pulled into the parking lot of VIP. The shop was very busy, but they very nicely accommodated us. They determined that it was a connection issue with the battery -- so a quick fix. No charge. They even put some air in the tires for me. We were so grateful! All of the employees were incredibly polite and understanding. If my daughter ends up going to UMaine next year, I will be happy to know that there is a nice auto repair shop that can help her with her car if needed. read more

I stupidly took my car here to have new summer tires mounted. When they gave me my car back my wheels were all chewed up around the rim's edge and there were black markings all over the wheel's face. Clearly whoever mounted the tires had no experience working with low-profile, high performance tires with very stiff sidewalls. I understand Direzza Z1 Star Specs can be difficult to mount, but you should not damage the wheels when mounting/dismounting them. The company did nothing to reimburse me for the damage to my wheels (it went all the way to the corporate level). These people are crooks who do terrible work on cars. I swore I'd never bring a car here, but I figured how could they mess up something as simple as unmounting/mounting new tires. read more

I took my car in for an oil change when I was in college. A couple weeks after the oil change I noticed oil coming from my hood. When I opened the hood, oil was all over the inside of the hood and engine. VIP did not put the oil cap back on after they changed the oil. I called VIP and at first they were defensive. I told them nobody worked on my car or opened the hood since they did the oil change. They finally had me bring my car back and the only thing they did was barely wipe down the oil and replaced the cap. There was no apology or special care given to my car. read more

I took my 1 year old Volvo in for an inspection sticker. The mechanic failed it and showed me (on paper) a laundry list of problems. He also said he was a former Volvo mechanic and knew these cars inside and out. Imagine that! I left and took it to the Volvo dealer and they put a sticker on it with no issues. Overpriced work! Was quoted $650.00 for them to replace broken right front spring and left front strut. When I asked why they weren't recommending a loaded replacement of both spring and strut system, they said they were trying to keep the price down. Anyone who knows automotive, it's cheaper to replace with a new loaded spring and strut system and less labor involved. This place is overpriced and shady at best! read more

I went here once and never again. They tried to charge me near $200 to replace a door handle (that worked, but had a piece of the plastic broken off) or they wouldn't inspect it. I brought it to Goodyear and they didn't say one word about it. read more

I actually had great service at VIP Discount Auto. For one, they replaces my wind shield wipers for free (though I gave a tip), and for arear break line replacement, and full rear break job, I only paid about $100 more than what I paid at Swett's auto shop for just the front break job... I had many problems with my alignment on my car that I had to go back here multiple times however, a guy at he front desk helped me out and made sure the alignment was good and even called me after my appt to make sure it was still driving okay. read more

I seem to have had a similar experience with them on several things that I read in other reviews but they ended up treating me alright. Our truck had some issues they agreed to fix it gave us a price and we agreed to it. A guy called my husband and said that he had to do something else to it and my husband said not to do anything that would change the price we discussed (our budget was tight). well the mechanic I guess put in a couple of new parts with out clearing it with us first (on a different issue then the truck was in for). The bill was $100 over what we talked about. We basically told them that was unacceptable and they took $70 off the bill since they already got rid of the old part. Which I thought we could live with. I went to get my vehicle inspected there and they made me come back in a scheduled appointment a few days later. When I got there there was a mistake the Town made on my paper work so they said they couldn't give me a sticker and asked me to come back again once I had it sorted. (I saw them turn a few people away for inspections that day). I told them "no" and that I had a scheduled appointment and that they could do the inspection and not give me the sticker and after they did the inspection I would get the paperwork cleared up and then they could give me my sticker after(I knew my truck would pass since I just got it). My truck they told me would of passed inspection, and I went to the town office got my paper work cleared up went back to VIP and they took a look at my corrected paper and gave me a Sticker. I find you just have to be really firm with them and tell them exactly what you want and as long as your expectations are clear they are not to terrible to deal with. read more

Attempted to charge me 360 bucks to change out both of my front axle U-Joints, though only the driver side had the slightest play in it. I did the work myself and it took me less time then they estimated. Even though I had never done this job and had limited facilities. The mechanic also tried to get me to agree to a brake change, completely unnecessary. Not very impressed. I would certainly take everything they say with a grain of salt and never, ever go there for your vehicle inspection, which is a great opportunity for them to black mail you. read more

I went in for an oil change and to have them install a fuel filter on my diesel pick up. I was there for 3.5 to 4 hours. They had trouble with the fuel filter, after they replaced it the pick up would not start. I had to call my husband a couple of times so that he could recommend what they needed to do. Even though it wasn't a great experience I feel that they were very polite, they kept me informed on what they were doing, and they were more than willing to try whatever they needed to do to get my pick up going for me and they did. read more

I will never go back again unless desperate. They say they charge $72 an hour for labor. Estimate for my car was $108, or 1 1/2 hours. They did the work in no more than 45 minutes and charged me for 1/12 hours - that's $54 above what their labor is. They said afterward that they have a flat rate of $108 or 1 1/2 hours. These guys are sketchy. They will try to convince you your car needs repairs that it doesn't. Don't trust them.

They are OK to get parts at but don't let them work on your car unless you plan on spending a bundle of cash. Now they really have you over a barrel cause they rip part of your inspection sticker off and you have to go back to them to get a sticker. I think they have really gone "corporate". The guys are good but have to meet quota or else. Best to go to a local independent garage to get work done at a reasonable rate! If you buy parts, call around other places to compare or check out the Net. The people working at the store are great but they are under pressure to sell and bring in $$$$. read more

Rip off joint that preys on the elderly. My 67 year old mother took the car there for brakd work. They noticed that she needed a state safety inspection and pulled the oldest trick in the crooked auto repair industry. "Well your brakes are fine, but if you'd like to get the sticker you need to drive legally, we are going to need you to agree to $1400 of repairs." Stay away from this place. read more

these guys act friendly, don't get deceived...they overcharge you on faulty tires and it looks like you are getting a good deal....i got new studded snow tires from these guys for around 700$ and had to go back to them 5 times in 6 months, because one of the tires leaked or had flat on it every now and then.....on top of this I asked them to check the tires and install them this year, which they didnot do..they just put the tires on the car ..i come to my office and realize that the tire is already flat...iamgine the inconvenience in maine snow storms.... read more
