I don't know about you guys but ever since I started driving and taking the car to a mechanic, I have always felt like they were ripping me off. "Yes, you need a new oil pump, that will be $1400" . "You can drive without changing your carburetor but I would not recommend it, I will do it for you for only $2000". Worst experience ever called and asked if they can fix my door on my Toyota truck because it won't open they said yes for 60$ labor. On site while mechanic was working on my door I heard sounds like something breaking after finally getting my door open they said I need a new latch. Costing 235 $ and take a week to get in.For a 1993 Toyota truck? Real ?also needed to add the 70$ for labor. I paid 60$ already for a door that cant even close anymore and a string tied to it which is unsafe to me.I was so Irate leaving with string holding my door. Later that day I installed the door latch myself funny how it opens and closes now using my outside door handle. read more

My car was making weird noise near the alternator. Took it to couple of shops and those quoted a lot. Then on my friend's suggestion took it to Virdee's. And it was the right decision. Virdee's made a quick diagnosis to replace the alternator but while disassembling he found the issue was with another part which costed much less and replaced just that. I used to go to Virdee several year ago when I lived in Fremont. Having moved back to Fremont, it was nice to see that his shop is still around. Virdee is a soft-spoken, honest mechanic who you can be sure will not rip you of. I just had the catalyst converter on my car changed and his prices were reasonable and lower than most other shops. Prior to changing the converter Virdee reset the "check engine" light to ensure that this replacement was necessary. If you're looking to buy a used car he'll do a diagnostic to make sure the car is in good condition. His shop can easily be missed. Its adjacent to the nursery on Decoto. read more

I came here several months ago a few miles after my check engine light came on. Without running the code or thoroughly examining my car, one of the mechanics looked under the car's hood for a few seconds and diagnosed it saying that it would cost several hundred dollars. I quickly hauled my car out of there and took it elsewhere where it was diagnosed as having a loose screw in the alternator and cost less than $20. I suggest you avoid this place! read more

i own a mazda rx8 shinka, race spec. i toOk my cr to virdees to get a couple thins fixd right before a big event at sonoma and the guys took care of it wirhing 3 hours. new coil overs new arms new hubs the whole 9 yards. fast reliable. if its a really foreign car like rotaries theyll do theyre best to fix it up. read more

We were about to leave on a long road trip and after checking the service manual realized my wife's '04 Toyota Highlander with 96K miles required a new timing belt, AC belt, and power steering belt. The mechanic who was probably the owner recommended a new water pump and thermostat. I figured might as well since he'll be replacing those three belts anyway. The car runs fine, but I didn't want any worries during the long road trip. After calling a few places, everybody was booked until the following week except for Virdee's, and he was available the same day I called. He gave me a reasonable estimate and didn't even charge me for the water pump and thermostat labor. Did I mention the pulleys and tensioner? Yeah, he did those as well! When the car was done, I rode my bike back to the shop and he even offered to help me put my bike back in the trunk. I'll definitely be going back to this shop in the future. read more

I am an extremely pleased customer strongly recommending Virdee Foreign Automotive. I found Virdee's because my radiator developed a hole while on the freeway near the shop. I was basically at their mercy. Instead of being fleeced, this turned out to be the best auto repair experience I've ever had. They squeezed me in and got the car fixed in one day while I was at work. They found an additional problem which they also fixed at a fair price. This place feels what old school garages used to feel like. Sohan is very nice and knowledgeable. Mr Singh, "the King", was extremely friendly and got the job done right - even though he had to stay late. I work in Fremont and stay here during the week but I go home to Manteca (70 miles NE) on the weekend. I have an old 2000 Lincoln that I absolutely love and a really old Ford Pickup. I have had folk near to my home in Manteca work on my vehicles but it usually involves going back a few times to get it correct. I found that it is easier and less stressful to take my vehicles to Virdee and be without a car during the week than it is to drop a car off closer to home and still have transportation. I was married to a mechanic so I understand delays for parts and the unavoidable mistake once-in-a-while but none of that has ever happened to me when I have taken my vehicles to Virdee. It is a stress free event because, not only do I feel that I can trust him, I know from experience that I can trust him. It is a stress free event because I know that when I pick my vehicle up, whatever Virdee did, he did it right and he did it because it needed to be done. I own a 28-year-old Mercedes Benz, and am very selective about choosing a mechanic. I encountered Virdee Automotive quite by chance several years ago. I was traveling on 880N and a warning light suddenly lit up on my dash. It had never lit up before, & I was unable to readily identify it from the icon's appearance. Concerned, I exited the next exit, which was DeCoto Road - took the path of least resistance and turned right at the end of the exit and searched for a place to pull over. The first available driveway belonged to Virdee Automotive, and as I pulled into the driveway, I noticed multiple Mercedes vehicles parked there awaiting service, and I exclaimed to myself, "Wow, what luck!" Mr. Virdee was working on a Mercedes at the front of the garage - I explained my dilemma, and he identified my description of the icon immediately! He told me it was the sensor for the brake pads; telling me that they should be changed in the not-too-distant future. He reassured me that I need not be worried - and the man didn't even try to sell me a brake job!! He just put my mind at ease & answered my question!! I made a mental note to come back to this shop when I required service. One and a half years later, I needed to replace my serpentine belt before it broke on the road - it was the original & was showing hairline cracks all around the circumference. I called in the afternoon - Mr. Virdee answered the phone; said he'd order the belt and would have it the very next morning, and to bring it in. I went there the next morning - they removed & replaced the belt while I waited - it took less than fifteen minutes - and he charged me over two-thirds less than every other quote I got - and did it right away! All other shops would make me wait over a week, and I'd have to leave it there overnight & arrange for rides both ways, etc. I highly recommend Mr. Virdee and his shop - he provides excellent service, superb work, the best price in the entire bay area - and the fact that he cares comes through loud and clear. I will patronize and recommend this highly ethical place of business as long as I reside in this area. It doesn't get any better than this. read more

As you can tell, I don't write many reviews because I just don't see the point but, Wow! What a place and what a nice man. I am from LA and was traveling through Fremont a couple weeks ago on a trip to the Bay Area. We were in our road trip car a VW Toureg and a lot of check engine lights came on and we were very nervous. We took it into quite possibly the nicest, and most genuine guy in business, forget about being a mechanic. We were on our way in an hour and a half and only paid $40 for changing a couple of belts and diagnosing the issues. What I saw was a 50+ year mechanic still working at 73yrs old and doing a fantastic job. I agree with most posters here, Sohan Virdee is awesome!!! The person below that feels the need to take pictures of Mr. Virdee while he is working, is a complainer and a turd. Get a new car or one you can take care of yourself and leave this solid, community mechanic business alone. read more

wasn't sure if he could work on american cars but when my car ran hot one saturday and i pulled off on decoto road and saw this business, i asked him to check it out. he immediately diagnosed what was wrong and said the car should be ready by monday afternoon. you can imagine how surprised i was when he left a msg sunday stating that the mechanic finished early and that the car was ready! the second time i took it in, he looked it over and told me that i would be needing a water pump (which he can't do on a chrysler since they make them so that you are almost forced to go back to the dealer). he said to just check it about once a month and carry coolant in the car until i was able to get it done. he can't do the job but told me as ii i check look around, expect to pay between $400-$500 - which will help in my choosing another location and..........he didn't charge me for the visit/diagnosis. great and honest mechanic. read more
