This shop is absolutely recommended. Don is the guy to find, and you will not be disappointed. My car broke down in the middle of the freeway one Thursday afternoon. I call this shop, and the response was immediate despite the parking lot being packed when I got my car towed here. Don gave me his contact info and began to update me on a daily basis of the current progress towards finding out the what main issue was. I was eager to get my car back but there was more than one problem, as I had been driving with my check engine light on for a few thousand miles after driving past 100k miles. Huge mistake on my part. But nonetheless, within a few days, Don was finally able to find the solution and get everything fixed. It was a rather delayed timing for maintenance on my end, but the result was spectacular, as Don was able to offer me a competitive price point for the parts and labor fees that you can't really find anywhere else. I was absolutely mindblown. When you come here, do keep in mind that Don isn't the best English speaker and I'm not saying that that is a bad thing, but communication will have to be made in a very clear manner. Prodiving even with pictures of specific parts and brands did help tremendously, speaking from experience. I am most definitely coming back, as I am looking forward to getting new brakes, changing the transmission fluid, and much more done in the near future! read more

I would absolutely not recommend this place. Around 6 months ago, I came in here to get only my brakes replaced. The owner told me that my front tires needed to be replaced as they were worn down, which I agreed to. However, once I picked up my car, I barely drove a minute out, and the lugnuts start loosening, and my wheel is off my car. If I was on the freeway, this would've been a way worse situation, thank god I was only on the streets. His team did come out to fix it after I called, which I was appreciative of. However, fast forward to today, I go to a different auto repair shop for two new rear tires, for them to show me that the tires I got at Advance Auto Repair for the front two tires were already worn down...that shouldn't be happening. I also found out that the team here missed putting in a stud, and that they actually overtightened two lugnuts on my left driver tire..nice! Basically meaning if this shop I went to today were to remove it, the studs inside those two overtightened lugnuts would most likely snap. So in all, going to advance auto repair not only caused even more stress, but now I have to fix even more for what they caused. read more

Oh boy. I made a drop off appointment with Fremont Auto Works, which shares a garage building with Advance Auto Repair. When I pulled into the lot, there was a car blocking the shared driveway which made me think I couldn't go any further. When the owner came out to greet me, I said, "Hi! Is this Fremont Auto Center?" (There are a few different auto shops all in that area so I asked to be triple sure). He said "Yes! How can I help you?" And so I proceeded as if this was the place I'd made the appointment with. Well. It was not. I didn't find this out until I called the correct place to check on the car. I understand mistakes happen, especially when you share a garage bay with three other auto repair shops, but my question was very clear. I also learned that my address is required to be on file before I leave my car at an auto shop, and Advanced Auto did not get any information from me except my phone number, which was put into a personal cell phone, which was strange to me to begin with. An individual person at the business should not have my number in their phone. When I contacted Advanced Auto Parts, I was only then told what needed to be done to repair and maintain. I told them not to do any work, I'd be coming to pick the car up. Come to find out, they'd already replaced my front brake pads and rotor, and cleaned my air filter before even telling me what needed done and proceeded under the assumption that I'd approve the work. It's a shame. He seemed like a nice guy and told me about how he only charges for parts and not labor, but the whole encounter was just too dishonest for me to recommend this place. read more

Fast, affordable, honest service I'm someone who assumes any mechanic other than the dealer is a crook. So, it takes a lot to earn my trust. I initially found this shop when I brought my Lexus is250 for a smog check. My battery died yesterday and I've been overdue for an oil change. I've been on a tight budget lately, so reluctantly decided to give this place a try. I had my oil changed, battery replaced, and tires rotated complimentary for almost half of what I paid to the dealer. I asked for an estimate to replace my brake pads to compare the cost I was quoted a few months ago. It was about $70 less than my other estimate. The owner said he only uses manufacturer parts from the dealer. That is yet to be decided but I will definitely be returning to find out. read more

Took in my 96 Volvo 850 for what i thought was a Fuel Tank Vent Hose leak. Turns out that the fuel tank leak was a recall issue which Volvo refused to accept since they claimed that my VIN # was not included in the recall...even if it was the exact same issue that the recall had claimed. So I had no choice but to have this safety issue repaired. Don got me a gas tank and fixed the problem. So happy that he was able to fix this safety issue...shame on Volvo. While there, I knew that my car had other issues that I had neglected for a really long time. Decided to have Don fix all the issues. So happy to report that I now have a virtually new 1996 Volvo 850. I love this car...quirks and all. Thank you, Don...I pray that the gods will bless you with lots of business. This is the best place in Fremont. The owner Henry is the most honest mechanic you will ever met. I asked him to replace the timing chain on my Nissan altima and he told me not to waste my time and money as it wasn't going to break or cause any damage. It was just a lil noisy, We LOVE this place. we take all our cars there. He is fast and doesn't keep your car for days cos he hasn't gotten around to it. One of the few auto shops open on a Sunday. My niece had an accident and brought the car here on a Sunday morning. They were really nice and honest. The part we needed, had to be replaced and ordered. The following Monday was an unofficial holiday so he was unsure if he could order the part and when it would arrive. He gave us two choices we can order a second hand/used part(cheaper) or a new one from the dealer. We opted for the official part bought from the dealer. The part was able to be delivered the next day, but depending on what time it would arrive would determine if we could get the car on Tuesday or Wednesday. I was working in San Jose on Tuesday so during my lunch I called up to check on the status. The part was delivered and will be installed today. On Yelp it says they close at 5, but on the door it says 6, needless to say we would be late since my niece works in Cupertino until 630pm. The man said he would stay open and wait for us. When we got there, it was an easy in and easy out. He told us he lives 5 minutes away so he is flexible with the customers hours. Such a plus in my book. The price was reasonable.. definitely cheaper than a dealer. Would totally come back... if it wasn't too far from Monterey. But if I am ever in the area this is the place I'll go. This is place is now under new ownership. Don has worked on my Lexus IS, replacing my brake pads, rotors, shocks, o2 sensor, oil changes and my 75k tune up. What I love about this place is they use OEM parts from Lexus. Lexus dealership quoted me $1800 to change my o2 sensor and tune up, going to Don instead helped save me more than $1k. It's hard to find a reliable and honest mechanic now days, so I'm glad I found this place in Fremont. read more

My '94 Buick Regal had been having some issues for a few months, but it finally got REALLY jittery every time I drove it. My husband called this place, and even though it was already almost noon on a Saturday, Tom said to bring the car on in. The price was reasonable, and he fixed the problem THE SAME DAY! Since we got the car fixed then and there, we even got the diagnostics fee waived. Also, I needed some other maintenance work done, but he wasn't pushy about getting us to do it right that moment, and said that it wasn't a super-pressing matter. Like most people, I have switched from one auto mechanic to another all along including the ones at the dealer locations. For the last two years, I am sticking to this place. Don has great work attitude and ethic. He explains the issue and suggests good solutions. For things like, oil change there is hardly any wait time in my experience. Most importantly, I found this place to be reasonable. When the repair guys work on our cars and we don't know what goes into investigation or fixing, there will be some amount of anxiety. But, having it explained well and sometimes even taking us inside and showing the exact issue would put us in somewhat of a comfort zone. Don handles this part well. I have seen this shop operating on cars ranging from small/basic cars to luxury cars. It wouldn't hurt to give it a try, if you are fed up with your current place and is in search of a new one. read more

Anyway, here's my review: I was originally at this long strip mall of auto repair garages at eight in the morning to have my car fixed with another shop, but came to this place because after waiting 30 minutes, nobody had come to open up their shop. I walked down the row of closed garages, to the one that had its doors rolled up, but I felt some reluctance due to the negative reviews here on Yelp. What I came to find out is that there's new ownership--out are Henry and Tom, and in is a affable man named Don. I felt relieved and grateful at the same time since I stumbled on to a garage that's honest and does a great job. This review is way overdue. I've had Don work on my 2006 Lexus GS300 for awhile and it is so nice to find an HONEST mechanic who is also a really nice guy. He has driven me home and picked me up when my car was done. I recently moved to Campbell and my car broke down. Another mechanic quoted an outrageous price for replacement of an alternator. I decided to try and get my car to Don and made it to Fremont. Don repaired my car that day and saved me about $500 compared to what the Campbell mechanic quoted. I will not look for another mechanic near my new home, the only person I will trust is Don. He also works on my boyfriend's Jaguar. We appreciate his honesty and fair prices. 0 stars if possible which is a shame because I found Henry to be an extrraordinarily honest and reliable mechanic. I would leave my car with him and trust him to do whatever was necessary, never bothered to ask for an estimate ever. This nephew of his (Tom) is the complete opposite. The first time he did a 60K mile service without even checking my batteries. C'mon !! the walmart folks give me a free battery check for an oil change. When i went back to him with a busted battery he pulled out a sheet with the list of repairs and said it didn't list a battery check. The next time i walked into his place to do an oil change and he tried to charge me $10 more than his usual rate claiming he used "extra special" or whatever oil. I walked out and have never stepped back in here again. If Henry comes back someone please post a review coz i'm still looking for a good auto repair shop read more

Bottom line - Don is a nice guy but prices are too high. I had a problem with my Toyota minivan and was stuck in the Target parking lot. I called Don and he drove there and started it (I waited less than 20 minutes). That's great service. I took the minivan to his shop and he replaced the ignition (which was causing the problem) with an OEM part. I then took my 2000 E320 to him as the transmission was slipping. I was out $900. He charged $375 for the AT Conductor Plate. I looked online and even the original MB part was less than $250. OEM prices were about ~$140. When I called and asked him about it he said that he only used 'dealer-bought' parts - not a satisfactory explanation. I was hoping to take my cars to him in future after the Toyota experience, but the charge for this part will take me elsewhere. MB owners - look at the MB forum - there's lots of info on it which can save you money. If Don can prove that he really paid $375 for the part (or atleast something close to it), I will retract this review as he seemed like a nice guy - otherwise the review stands. read more
