Smothered pork chops with jasmine rice and greens! Winner!!

This is a great spot in Atlanta!! I highly recommend it for the food and environment. The service was good. The banana pudding cheesecake was kinda boring so skip it.

Food - 10/10 Service - the bartender was our server...really personable Ambiance - I must be getting old because I cannot take restaurants where the music is blaring...I guess to, we were sitting right under the speaker...when we asked them to cut it down, they obliged I'm coming back next time I'm in the ATL...I prefer them over Old Lady Gang and that was my go too every time I was in Atlanta It's all about preference and Virgil's got my vote

This was me and my husband's, first time dining at this restaurant. The food was so delicious, and the employees are super nice. I had shrimp and grits, and added collard greens. My husband had string beans, smothered pork chops and added corn bread. Every bite was yummy. Jaden was our waiter and was super nice. We may be back if we're in the area.

We stopped by Virgil's on a whim after landing in Atlanta. We did not have a reservation, but were able to be seated within 15 minutes. The service was friendly and accommodating throughout the entire visit. I ordered the Skeeta Beach to drink and that drink was STRONG. Whew. You definitely get your moneys worth here. To eat, I got the Bussin' corn muffins and the Skrimp n Grits wit crab. The corn muffins were very appropriately named as they were moist, had the earthy sweetness from the sweet potato, and were drizzled in the best honey drizzle I've ever had. The grits were very smooth and the crab gravy was a nice flavor touch. What I appreciated most about the dish were the almost translucent shrimp served alongside it. Often times, restaurants severely overcook the shrimp in shrimp and grits but these were perfection. We will absolutely be stopping back by Virgil's whenever we're in Atlanta

Ohhhh yeah!! 1st meal of Atl visit!! This visit could not have been more perfect. Easy to locate. Visually appealing. Sweet young lady greeted and sat hubby, and I. Fannnnntastic service by DeShaun P. DeShaun was instrumental w us selecting a delish meal and beverage. Collectively, we ordered the following. Afta Church Plate: Very good!! Collards... GREAT!! Fried Poke Chop: Cooked well. Could use more seasonings. Jasmine Rice: Pretty good flavor. A little overcooked. Mushy GeecheeRita: Terrific!! Great beverage. Lil' Churn (Mocktail: Muddled Lemon, Fruit Purèe, Various Juices): Yum!! It's refreshing and perfect !! I highly recommend this business and will certainly return back for more tasty greatness.

Bussin Corn Muffins and French Toast Sticks

This is a gem in College Park! Loved the music and the vibe, the staff were welcoming and friendly. The bussin corn muffins are a must have!! The French toast sticks are ok, but I'd rather have more corn muffins next time. Fish and grits were hot and fresh. Loved the light breading on the fish and presentation. The cheddar grits were delicious and filling. The crab gravy on the side was super flavorful and delicious with the whole meal. My husband got the after church plate, those greens were amazing, everything was great. Will definitely come back!

While in Atlanta for a weekend, a few high school classmates and I opted to patron Black-owned restaurants and Virgil's Gullah Kitchen & Bar was on of the spots we tried on a whim. Talk about a good choice. Since we were going to several restaurants throughout the day, we opted for a set of appetizers. The sweet potato corn muffins were a blast. We ordered fried green tomatoes and had them topped with lump crab. We were quite okay paying a small upcharge for the lump crab, which made the fried green tomatoes taste that more delicious. The fried okra with jalapeno slices also hit the spot. It was a good flavor combination. We ordered one entrée that we shared. It was shrimp, lump crab, and fried oysters over grits. There are not enough words to describe how that dish left us in silence. It could fuel an addiction, for true. Big ups on the service and the outstanding food. This is one of a few restaurants that has made my repeat list.

As always, the food at Virgils is amazing! We went in the Sunday evening for dinner. Only two complaints: 1. The Mac and cheese was cold and, 2. The red rice was cold as well. Even with that, it still hit the spot and can across. They were relatively busy which meant drinks were refreshed as much as we liked. But, the food came our relatively quickly and the order was accurate. Karimah did her thing and, seamlessly, went from busy table to busy table making sure everyone was good. Thanks Super Star! Also, the music was on point and not too loud. That enhanced the dining experience. Virgil's is Virgils. You know what it is. Gone get them wings, today!

Black owned, black operated, fabulous food and vibes! They have a DJ that played all the hits, the staff was nice and the food was AMAZING! Chile it was an experience... They had all kinds of options for food including vegan...everything was so tasty & flavorful! It did take a while to get the bartender's attention but he was doing a lot and the place was starting to get packed so he was running here, there, everywhere:) Also my server didn't really check up on me that often, he was nice though but I found myself flagging him down more often than not... But they got us everything we asked for .. Check it out and get the seafood eggrolls... You're welcome! lol I'm definitely going back:)

Interesting experience here for the food and learning about the culture was interesting. Ate all my food so was very good!

I recommend this place but keep in one the collard greens no longer have pork, replaced with turkey. Every time I come to Atlanta this is the place I come For an authentic soul food dinner .

Happy Hour

Per the restaurant's request, I emailed the said staff on July 20th and still no response...SMH

Ask the Community - Virgils Gullah Kitchen & Bar

Is there space for small groups to gather?

It's not a huge restaurant- it's one of those "in the cut"type of restaurants- they can maybe seat 20 ppl comfortably? I would recommend making a resy!

Do you have a menu for your cocktails to go?

Not at this time.

The gentleman -JB...who served me at the bar was simply awesome. I truly appreciated that he served my martini in a glass (not a martini glass, but still a real glass) while I noticed everyone else was being served in plastic cups. That small gesture definitely did not go unnoticed--thank you for that! Ambiance: I actually found this place online just a few days ago and decided to give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised and enjoyed every second of my visit! To my Grown & Sexy YELPERS...you may want to come check this spot out. Now I know, I know...many of us remember what used to be in this location, but this is definitely not that place anymore. I will call out the chicken egg rolls are the best I have had with freshness and crispiness. Drinks were good in flavor but not noticeable on the alcohol. Staff were excellent and attentive with great personalities. Was not that crowded for a weekend. DJ was good and we got our dance on. One negative was it was I guess costume party night and the host kept talking way too much and stopping the music. There is a Cigar bar connected. Free parking. There was a $20 cover.

Sad, because that's why I initially came to this restaurant. But I digress, the seating area is lovely, and inviting. The bar has several TVs where you can watch sports, and the seating at the bar area is plentiful. I opted for the 10oz NY strip steak for dinner (48$) It came with mashed potatoes, mushrooms, and asparagus. The food wasn't bad. But it wasn't excellent either. Steak was a bit tough and badly needed spices, but it was cooked to the temp I asked for (rare), which is hard to get these days, even from "steak houses." All-in-all, not bad for a hotel restaurant. Cleanliness: very clean Customer service: good Menu: good variety of food choices Seating: indoor, good for large groups Ambiance: casual to business casual

We parked behind the building and a woman who worked there had the door open. She had on a shirt that read Legalize being Black. My husband had on a Black Lives Matter shirt, & I had on a Juneteenth shirt. She smiled and raised her fist at us as we asked to enter through the door and we responded in kind. I love us! She toke U.S. to grab a menu as we walked in to the right of the bar. We found a high top and found what we wanted and went to the counter to order. The prices are reasonable until you get to adding the sides. I overheard another worker tell a couple who ordered after us to order the veggie plate if they were getting 4 sides as it was cheaper. I wish the person who took our order had told use that. The entrees are à la carte and priced reasonably. The sides are $5 each with a few exceptions, a hoecake is $2 and mac & cheese and a couple other sides are $6. Keep that in mind when you come. Our total for our inside dining with a can of ginger ale, fountain Diet Coke, & tip was like $70+ & the to go order for our son's meal w/o a drink was ~$30. It's definitely a good value if you only need an entree and have sides already. The food is good and has large pieces of meat & decent portions so there you go... I ordered the fried green tomatoes as a starter, smoked beef brisket with the barbecue sauce on the side, smoked turkey cabbage, dressing, & the lemon pound cake. Ironically, the fried green tomatoes came out last. They were piping hot though. They could've used a dash of salt but that cornmeal batter was perfection on the tomatoes. You get 3 and 1 was cut a little too thick and it was slightly mushy maybe cause it had to cook longer? But it was still good. The beef brisket was good. It's sliced thin and had that good smoke flavor and was seasoned well. The thicker slices could've been a bit more tender but overall it could rival some barbecue joints. The dressing was good and so was the cabbage, though it was almost tad bit saltier than I'd like. I'd order everything I had again. I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed my food. You know not everyone who claims to cook southern food can do so. Oh the pound cake was good and moist. It reminds me of Sammy Chhesecake pound cake. My husband ordered the 3 pieces of fried chicken, collard greens & they do have a lil kick as the menu suggests, green beans, & yellow rice. He was pleasantly surprised with how big the pieces of chicken were. Nowadays people give you what looks like pigeon parts ‍. He said it was a tad salty. He said he also enjoyed his meal otherwise. I forgot to get pictures of the food for our son's takeout order of fried pork chops, collard greens, mac & cheese, & a hoecake. He liked his food as well but also said his pork chops, which were nice size center cut, were well seasoned, but a little too much. He enjoyed the meal and his 1st hoecake. They also do catering and seemed to have a large catering order being prepared to go out. The restaurant & woman's restroom was clean. The staff were friendly and quickly acknowledged us. The music was good but it would've been good to hear a mix of old school with the hip hop since it was Juneteenth. They have a full bar. The only thing I didn't like was Fox News & another conservative news channel on; at least not on JuneteenthZ a generic movie or TV show would've been better for me anyway. They had a steady stream of to go orders and in person dining. I guess we're just late to know about

The sweet potatoes and greens tasted like pure comfort food on a plate. The music was a little on the louder side, but it also gave the restaurant a fun, lively atmosphere. Overall, definitely a spot worth visiting if you want flavorful soul food and great hospitality.

The vibe of spot is r&b brunch party, so singing and eating just go hand in hand here. Perfect spot for a birthday get together in fact there were like 2 or 3 turn ups while I there. So the real question: Why only a 4 star review if it was so poppin and food was fire?! Well the actual service is where the shine needs to be a bit brighter. I dont mind that a pre-calculated 20% tip is coming on my bill when the service is prompt and attentive. That is where the mark was missed, seemed as though the service was a bit slower because the tip is already there so the need to perform and match the excellence of the food and drinks doesn't matter as must to the servers. We sat for a long time after placing our drink order without even receiving the lemonade that was ordered first and not coming from the bar. Had to remind the server that we even ordered them. We also had to flag her down for things like a couple more napkins or salt/ pepper/condiments once the food arrived. Would have been appreciated if there was a check in/check back to ensure we were good and didnt need anything else or to order another drink. Overall we'll be back and hopefully the service game will be as stepped up as the other areas that made this a memorable must stop!
