Get the burger! I was extra hungry this evening and had both the steak frites and burger. The steak frites were just okay; steak slightly overcooked and a touch dry. Fries were delicious. Light, thin and crispy. The burger was the real money maker and best thing on the menu. Honestly thought the burger rivals and probably better than au cheval (see au cheval Chicago review). Need to go back to Virginias and get the bacon added for a more fair comparison. Outside seating is nice; but the tables/chairs are small and on top of each other. Common for NYC and not a big deal but these were so close i think it's worth a mention. Server was attentive and friendly. Could have been a bit more social and smiley but good overall. Went with my friend to get HH and we were very excited but the service was not what was expected. Felt like they were rushing us out as soon as possible and were only there for an hour. We're asked if we were doing okay 3 times in a 10 minute span and were given the check right away once our food got taken away even though we still had full glasses of wine. This is a really cute spot for a date night! Came here on a Saturday night as I was able to snag a reservation on the day of. When walking in, the place is quite small, so it makes sense a lot of tables we're either a party of 2 or 3. The menu is simple as well so we went with a classic steak frites, shrimp cocktail, and their burger which they are known for. I will say, that one small complaint was that our server didn't really mention their specials for tonight, I only heard of the specials as a table next to us was asking their server what their specials were. Other than that the wait for the food was not long at all. Shrimp Cocktail- a simple classic starter, the pieces of shrimp were pretty big and their Calabrian aioli was a nice touch to it. The Steak Frites- I asked for a Medium well and thought it was cooked to my liking! The steak had a great flavor to it and their butter melted perfectly onto the steak which elevated the flavor to it. The Burger- There was a lot of hyped-up anticipation of this burger since this was the initial reason we wanted to come here. I can say that this burger sits at my top 5 list of best burgers. The caramelized onions, cheese, and meat complement each other so nicely. Nothing was too salty or overpowering one another. We will be back for this one. I walked into Virginia's because I was starving and desperate. I did not expect to eat one of the best meals of my life, and I consider myself a well-seasoned foodie. The Little Gem Salad is high on the list with the most fresh, zesty, delicious salads I've ever had. I was blown away, I ate every last bite of this thing. The only thing more incredible than the salad is what followed: Virginia's Burger. I have no words to describe how absolutely stunning and gorgeous this burger is. It is so simple yet phenomenal. Everything about it is perfect. I can't even begin to count the sheer number of burgers I've eaten in my life and this is undoubtedly the winner. Zero exaggeration, quite possibly one of the best restaurants in NYC. I can't believe how lucky I was to stumble upon this place unexpectedly. I saw Matt James review this place and instantly knew I had to go check it out. The restaurant is so adorable and well thought out. I loved the quaint wine bar vibes. The service was amazing. I dropped by fork and within 10 seconds I had a new one and didn't even have the chance to tell anyone it fell yet! The food was great. Especially loved the onion dip and gem salad. Have you ever tasted a burger like an onion soup? This is it, the onion marmalade provided healthy amount of liquid to the burger, made my plate a bowl of onion soup after the burger. Surprisingly, the soft brioche bun was able to hold its shape after the tsunami. As simple as it was, with only the patty and the cheese, devouring the burger was truly a great joy. I'd rate Virginia's four and a half stars. Cozy neighborhood bar feel with a some pricey and upscale menu items. I don't usually come across bars with blintzes and crab cakes with caviar. We decided for the burger which comes with onion jam and a small saucer of pickles; fries are an extra $12 which we opted for totaling $30 for the burger and fries. It was juicy, buttery, and delicious, but certainly on the pricey side. Fries were thin, crispy, and had what I'd describe as a shellfishy taste to them. The burger was great cooked medium rare and had a delicious onion jam spread on the bun that had been lightly toasted. The steak frites was very average the steak was cooked medium rare and was very juicy but did not have much flavor it tasted overly peppered. They do have desserts but I did not order any. read more

To start, the service was incredible and attentive right when we walked in. I enjoyed a Valentine's dinner here, which was a different menu than their usual dinner menu. Everything came out quickly and how we asked for it. The meat was cooked correctly, the mashed potatoes melted, and the flavor was there. Amazing. First visit, we got the olives/sourdough, onion dip with potato chips, clams casino, crab cake, burger, and banana pudding. The burger is excellent, with incredibly perfect onions, although I felt like I didn't actually need the bacon, and maybe it could have benefited from some kind of slight sweetener, but I still really loved it. The clams and crab cake were perfect, and both had a slight kick to them, which I appreciated. The onion dip was maybe my wife's favorite dish of the night, and I loved it too, even if it's not usually my thing. We both said we'd pass on the banana pudding next time around. read more

Small bistro that is famous for it's burger, but that also has other options and a solid cocktail menu I came here for brunch with my GF, and we were struck by how loud it was inside!! Only ~1/2 of the tables were full, and we still could hardly hear each other (or the waiter). They do have some tables outside however, so this might be the way to go My GF and I both ordered a burger, and we also had to order a side of fries because they do not come with the burger. The only thing that comes with the burger are a few tiny pickle slices. We also did not have to specify how we wanted our burgers cooked, as they already have a pre-determined temperature that they serve their burgers at. When our burgers came out they were less cooked then we would normally get them, but we trusted that the chefs knew what they were doing here. Came here on a Saturday around 4:45pm (we had 5:00pm reservations). We were seated immediately. The place was nice and cozy. The staff was very attentive and provided good service. We ordered 2 burgers medium rare and fries. The burgers were cooked perfectly and had a well balanced flavor. The fries were shoestring style but were so crispy that it reminded me of potato sticks. They were delicious and had a subtle garlic flavor to them. The burgers were on what seemed to be a brioche bun that was nicely toasted. The meat was great quality and had a nice juiciness and was perfectly salted. The cheese also was noticeable but in a good way, giving it a nice rich balance. The onion jam offered a nice sweetness and tasted fresh, unlike some other places that do a similar style burger. They have sliced pickles on the side for a balancing acidity if that is what you enjoy. In my opinion, this is an outstanding burger. read more

This spot is on the radar of most burger lovers in nyc. I have to say their burger does live up to they hype. It's a large fat single patty burger but still manages to stay juicy and moist. I really liked the sharper cheese they use and he caramelized onions were quite tasty. The fries don't come with the burger but we ordered for the table and they were really tasty. We also had the crab cake appetizer and Brussels sprouts both of which were quite nice. Cocktails are expensive but well made and worth the $. The only negative (which is a pretty big one) is that the waitstaff were honestly downright unfriendly. When we would order something they usually just stared back with no acknowledgment lol, kinda odd. Still I'm a food first reviewer and the food was on point. read more

I had an awesome experience at Virginia's! My good friend, Mistey, recommended it to me and it did not disappoint! I had the burger with a side of fries and it was *chef's kiss*. The thick patty was juicy and the fries were a good amount of crispy without being over done. The bacon was a great compliment as well! I put some on the burger. When I initially booked, I had seen this delicious burger with a sunny side up egg on top which led me to even book in the first place. After we received our meals, I was brought out a backyard barbecue burger with a sad side of chips. My friend had ordered the French toast and her entire meal was cold!!! I hope that a chef comes in and revamps the meals because this was a sick excuse of a restaurant.. What an incredible gem in the East Village! I visited Virginia's with 3 of my friends this week while visiting the city, and we were immediately welcomed by our waiter, Jacob. He recommended great dishes and was able to answer our questions immediately. He was the perfect combination of attentive and not rushing us. When it came to the food, all I can say is WOW! The Little Gem salad was phenomenal. The dressing was one of the best I've ever had. 2 of us had the corn risotto and it was creamy, salty, and perfectly cooked. Virginia's has to be the most polarizing place for me. Great space, with tasteful ambiance, good food, just felt the pricing could use a little tweaking. The good: - The burger is delicious, though I think I could use some fix-ins, not sure they offer that. My only knock against the burger was that the bun came soggy and mushy. Perhaps it was sitting waiting to be ran? - The fries are downright delicious. I couldn't stop eating them. - Drinks were great. - Crab cake was delicious. The bad: - Mostly the price, I feel that more could have been given for the price-point, but this is rather subjective as I am from out of town. - I cannot stress how mushy and soggy the bottom of my burger was, I don't know if that is their style but it is what it is. Again, flavor was good, beautiful beefy flavor, just that soggy bun really took away from the burger. I'll leave the price open to interpretation, but ambiance, service, and food flavors leave me at a high 3 star, low 4 star situation. read more
