Service sucks at the bar waiting up to 20 minutes for a beer.. and we are right in front of bar tenders..

Went in to celebrate a friends 40th birthday on a Wednesday evening and have one of the worst experiences. The bouncer was extremely rude and made all 7 of us (grown women in our late 30s early 40s) feel uncomfortable and unwelcomed, even joked he would kick us out to see how we would like that. There was another man sitting at the table with him wear in a red hat that laughed and didn't make the situation better. We asked the bartender what the owners name was and how we could contact him. The manager came over and whispered in hear ear not to give it to us. He made the whole situation 100x worse. Arguing with all of us, telling us we were wrong, that this wasn't Walmart, that the customer isn't right, and that we don't pay his paycheck. We were all baffled on how grown men would speak to women like that, especially customers in their establishment. We finished the 5 drinks we ordered and left. The poor bartender missed out on a great tip and we probably would have stayed there for quite sometime. I could imagine business is amazing, but someday when it's not handed on a silver plate, people are going to remember the experience. We all live in different cities through out the central valley and promise we will tell whomever we can about our experience. I attempted to call this afternoon but it just rang and rang. read more

I'm a local and have always loved VBC, even before I was actually old enough to get in. I'm giving the bar 2 stars because of the service. None of the bartenders there are overly nice but that's expected, that place gets packed with annoying drunks. I've worked in hospitality/ food service. I get it. Regardless, there's a level of professionalism that should be maintained and for a couple of their bartenders, it's non-existent. I'm specifically talking about the bartenders Sabrina, the short ,redhead and JR short, skinny guy. Hands down, the absolute worst customer service everrrr.. The dude is rude with a condescending tone that is relentless. You practically have to jump over the bar for him to take your drink order even when the crowd has died down. (This is true for all of the bartenders.) The chick is even worse!!!!!! One night she made eye contact with my fiends and I as we were trying to wave her down and she completely ignored us. I went side of the bar she was on and she proceeded to help someone else who had just walked up to the bar . We had been waiting for 10-15 mins by the time she was ready to acknowledge me! I told her how long we had been waiting and with the ugliest attitude and most disrespectful tone, she began to argue with me!! Telling me I was wrong! She finally took our drink order but by that time they had already called "shots only" so we couldn't get any of the drinks we wanted. BUT, because she he knows one of guys in our group, she gave him and his friend cranberry vodkas saying " Oops, I accidentally mixed your drinks". How nice. THEN one of the girls asked for a lime for her tequila shot which is usually how it's served (duh). This chick gave my friend the most evil look ( she looked seriously scary, like possessed scary!). She doesn't say a word, comes back with the lime in her bare hand and throws it on the disgusting bar. THIS IS REAL LIFE! Believe me I'm not expecting 5 star service at this place and I don't need starbucks baristas serving my beers either. What I do need is management to do something about their staff. Until then, I won't spend another penny at that place. I'll get twice as many drinks for the same price at my favorite dive bar where the bartenders don't hate their lives. I recently talked to one of the guys who was really nice about the whole thing. He let me know I'm not the first to complain and management is well aware of the problem. Hope something changes soon bc I'm gonna miss $2 Tuesdays. ;) Last thing!! if anyone is hiring elsewhere please consider these bartenders! VBC is obviously sucking the life out of them!!!! Had brought some friends from out of town here since I haven't been to VBC in a while, they did have karaoke nights but I guess they stopped it. Disappointed so we left, Not sure if it was just us who smelled it but it smelled of urine! read more

First off, this is NOT a brewery, as their name implies. There is no brewing going on here. Basically, a divey bar that has apparently had some trouble in the past (based on the "no gang attire" sign in the front window). Their kitchen closes early, the taps (while plentiful) are not too special and, while they have some good craft beer on, there isn't much. If I could give Less than one star I would. I walk in there because I saw a friend in at the bar. The bouncer asked what I wanted and what my business was in there. Then my wife walked in a few minutes later and he carded her (she is 62). I will never set foot in that pig hole ever again. Plus in smells like a outhouse in there. read more

Hippie stoners smokin pot outside with homeless skateboarders is the first thing that comes to mind. Too much Sublime on the jukebox is the second. Half the bar is the size of a hallway, constantly stepping on people or being stepped on by people. Whatever you do, don't eat the food. A few nights a week this is a real hot spot. Whatever you do, don't mention the cockroaches to the staff. Friends of mine invite me out with them to this place on a regular basis, fortunately I'm permanently banned (long story) Whatever you do, don't use the restroom on the right. I will admit to some friendly service most of the time. Whatever you do, don't kareoke Elton John more than once. no sleeveless shirts. read more

VBC is one of the best places in Visalia!! They have a good amount of beers on tap and usually draw a pretty cool crowd. Tuesdays ($2 drafts) can get a little busy--tip well and you will get served in a timely manner. If I happen to get back to Visalia, I have to say, I will definitely be making a stop here!! ;-) good times.. read more

The bar was not too packed and the service was sooooooo slow! Ordered a Malibu with pineapple and soda...where is the Malibu? It definitely did not make it into my cup. Returned it. But did not get a chance to enjoy the second since it took so long for them to come back with it. Definitely not the place for anything other than beer. read more

All the locals come here on Tuesday! I'd go here if I was visiting Visalia - heck I live in visalia & I visit whenever I can! Wed-Fri is karaoke night & Tuesday is $2 beers with a $2 cover after 9! I recommend this spot for anyone who wants a cheap beer & a good vibe. You might meet your future wife here! Also, Sunday is Bloody Mary day and the beers are $2.50 with karaoke! Nobody is really here on a Sunday so if you have a group of friends that wanna drink cheap and sing without worrying about random people hearing them, then go on a Sunday! read more

The prices are very reasonable, and I really enjoy doing karaoke here. Tuesdays are a lot of fun in particular the drinks are only $2 after paying a $5 cover charge. It usually gets quite busy these nights, the karaoke is very entertaining. The service is usually quick, and they have a TouchTunes compatible juke box. However, I take two exceptions regarding the VBC: they need to spray for pests, and they have a ban on Spanish music. Nearly every time I have come here I see a variety of bugs this problem needs to be addressed. In regards to the Spanish music I don't listen to this type of music often, but I take exception to the ban because I perceive it as discriminatory. Overall, I enjoy hanging out at the VBC I usually have a good time, and will continue to go back. read more

One word. TERRIBLE. It's been years since I've been back in Visalia and my brother and I just wanted a nice cold micro brew but when we walked in an sat at the bar, the bartender never never even looked at us. After sitting at the bar for what seemed an eternity, we stood up and thanked her for the non service and left. The bartender was too busy flirting with a customer to pay us any attention. To top it off the placed wreaked of dirty mop and urine. Just a shame. We were looking forward to a nice local beer spot. read more

Went here a month ago and the bouncers kicked me out of my second beer! This was only my second beer of the night!!! I said ok was going to go to another bar but the bouncers proceeded to follow me cussing me out telling me I'm a pussy and I don't want none of them. Beer is good, cold, and cheap. I'm writing about the wings! This is Steve's Place. I don't know what the deal is about the food, but they keep the two separate. Doesn't matter. These wings are awesome, and Steve makes his own habanero sauce. He makes various types and flavors, some better than others, but they are damn good and HOT!! It's not the hot that I love, it's the flavor! I've never tasted anything like it. The wings are fried, but very well spiced to begin with. Add Steve's sauce to the mix and you've got one hell of an awesome, kick ass chicken wing experience! I bought a bottle of his pineapple/habanero sauce and used it up within two weeks. Works on just about anything if you can handle the heat! I reserve a star because of the arrangement about the food and beverage. Really stupid. Is it Steve's Place, or Visalia Brewing Company? Why can't I pay the beer babe for my wing order? WTF?? Other than that, it's my first stop when I visit Visalia!!! read more

I came here at midnight on a Sunday. Went downtown with my boyfriend looking for a late night drink. We'd been wanting to try out Crawdaddy's but it was Vaquero night and we didn't want to pay the $5 cover. Not really our scene either. Luckily we spotted Visalia Brewing Co There was about 7-8 people there. I was surprised because it seemed like the rest of downtown was pretty much asleep. They had an awesome selection of craft beers on the menu but were out of quite a few because it was the night before they get their weekly delivery. Annoying, but having worked in the industry I know that this is pretty normal for a lot of places. The bartender was able to make some excellent recommendations and it was only $5 for 2 beers. All day happy hours on Sundays. Sweet!!! Later we sampled a few of their fancy flavored vodkas. They had fruit loop flavor which tasted excellent with sprite. This place is a little bit of a dive bar but not too sleazy . I'll definitely be visiting more often. read more

Two friends and I got kicked out of this bar last night. They say it was due to "promoting" I say the karaoke competition is serious business here and we were putting on too good of a show for no cover. I get it though, my friend may have mentioned a new drinkery down the street, that I dare not mention, (but it rymes with Schmeschmuoia Brewing Company ) a time or two during his songs he sang(which were classy). We were drunk, we thought it was funny, management didn't, it's cool. We had a blast though, great beer deals and the bartenders were super friendly. It was a good night and a even better story to tell, if our 86'd'edness is ever lifted we will be back. read more

The best place in downtown Visalia to meet your friends for a cold adult beverage. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Amazing cheeseburgers and tacos. Speaking of tacos, Tuesday's are $2 beers and tacos. If you want to watch your team play, this is the place. They always have sports on their many TV's. They have all the good beers on tap too. This is the "corner bar" here in Visalia. The crowd is diverse and the atmosphere is nothing short of rowdy. There are many bars like it but this one is mine. Without my bar I am useless without me this bar is useless. Cheapest drinks in town. The food is a gamble at best. read more

Only one good thing about this place and that is the $2 beers on Tuesdays. The castleberry is pretty yummy. That's where the good ends. This place packs in elbow to elbow. You get felt up walking by whether you want it or not. The crowd is mostly loud, obnoxious, douche bag types. I went there for lunch and grabbed a quick burger. I was pleasantly surprised that it was very fresh and tasty. The bar told me that they didn't have a freezer so everything was fresh and it really tasted like it. The bun was fresh and soft and the meat was well seasoned and tender (not tough like frozen burgers can get). I have been on karaoke nights and it is very crowded but can be a lot of fun. read more

The place looks a bit worn however, one visits the VBC for beer and not to have a fine dining experience. The service is average. Two dollar Tuesdays is great. Recently however, I have noticed that their beer has been a bit on the warm side. That's where I draw the line. The place can look crummy, service can be horrible, bathrooms can be dirty with urine all over the floor but warm beer? That's a crime. Inspect those coolers. read more

Was enjoying my night until a bouncer threatened to fight me because his girlfriend was trying to dance with me. He could of easily said in a nice way that was his girl and I would have backed away but he came up like a rude insecure jerk telling me to not talk to her. First bar I ever drank at haha was a great experience! Went on a Sunday night. There was karaoke going on, so there were some regulars and some couples there already when we got inside. The beer was cheap but it was ok! The bartender though was not the friendliest so I cut a star for that. Another thing I didnt like was the layout, it's very small and narrow inside! On a friday night you cannot find a seat I kid you not! Alot of bodies packed into that tiny bar, it gets really annoying and crowded, not the best if you are just trying to hang out with friends and have a drink. If having someone's elbow stab you in the spine all night is not for you, then I suggest going on the off nights like the weeknights, but if you dont care, go on fridays and saturdays! Oh and I have also seen live bands play, so I'm sure it gets super busy on those nights too! read more

This place has potential, to bad it has poor service. In a place like this all you have to do is serve decent finger food and provide great service of putting out the drinks. Just seems VBC cannot get it together. I don't mind the fact that this is a dirty little hole in the wall. I don't even mind the fact that, when it does get busy on the weekends, Tuesdays and occasionally Thursdays, it's super hot and there's nowhere to sit. What I do mind is the fact that California sells alcohol until 2am And you guys stop serving anywhere between 12:30am And 1:15am. You've literally stopped me at the door at 12:45am And told me nobody else is allowed inside because you are shutting down. I don't get out of work until 11:30pm. It makes no sense when you have people that want to spend money to shut down early... literally every night of the week!! It is sooooooo annoying! Everybody is upset and starts complaining. 45 minutes before the other bars close, you are closing early. You should be serving until 1:45am!!!! It only takes you 10 minutes to kick everyone out as you just walk through yelling at everybody drink up and get out. Can you PLEASE stay open like a regular bar so those of us that only get to wind down in the late evening hours have somewhere to chill. Like I said I forgive you for being a dirty hole in the wall, I forgive you for being super hot with limited space and nowhere to sit. At least stay open so I can throw my money at you. read more

My fiancé and I stopped here to get food before a show. The service was good. The chef even offered to run out and buy an avocado for my sandwich because they were out. The food was amazing, but the last thing you want to see while at a restaurant is a cockroach the size of your fist walking across the floor! Holy moly, I almost had a fit. I put my feet up and let it go for a while. After I finished eating, I looked at the wall next to me to see ANOTHER roach sitting there! That was WAY to close! I had to get up and walk out. The food may have been good but I had higher expectations for a restaurant on Main Street. It's unfortunate that their bad reviews are completely based on cleanliness. Cleanliness should be more of a priority for any restaurant/bar. read more

I've had a few bad experiences with some of the bar tending staff being rude and blatantly ignoring people trying to order in the past. However, few months ago I decided to give it another shot and I'm glad I did. I didn't see the aforementioned rude faces behind the bar anymore! The bartenders now are great, fast and polite! Lots of beers on tap. If this place gets crowded, it's hard to get a drink. Also if crowded, if ur under 5'6" do not enter otherwise u will be lost in sea of people. If there is a line at the bathroom, there are plenty of covert urine spots in the alley/parking lot in the back. read more

The Karaoke DJ here is amazing. He is nice, great at Karaoke (of course), and has a great selection! When I lived in Los Angeles, I used to go to a Karaoke bar weekly. I would go to this one weekly now, if it wasn't for the bouncer named Jerry. That is why I am giving this place three stars. Jerry was disrespectful and VERY aggressive with one of my girlfriends. When we told the manager, he replied that everyone has a bad day. I'm sorry, but I work in public service and if I acted like that with a customer (whether or not I was having a bad day), I would be immediately fired. What is especially upsetting is that he acted this way with a woman. I am somewhat of a feminist and for a man to be that aggressive and intimidating to a woman is unacceptable. He was like a school bully, only picking on someone that he knew was smaller than him. If he acted that way with a man, he would get a well-deserved punch in the face. Jerry obviously doesn't know that he needs to control his anger with women. If/when he ever gets a girlfriend, he seems like the type of guy that doesn't know not to hit a woman. I will not be bringing this place more business until Jerry is fired. read more
