Last visit in 2023 -- Very limited parking-staff uses most spaces. Appt didn't seem to matter, was finally seen by optometrist. Finally got someone to open locked cases so I could finally pick out frames and add treatments that were very aggressively pushed on me. Glasses arrived at store much later than promised. They processed incorrectly with insurance and were never able to fix the problem so I got stuck overpaying. Never went back--Myeyedoctor is better. read more

This is our first time coming here as we moved from NC . I found this place using Yelp and decided to come. Upon arriving for our first visit we were greeted and filled out papers as usual. What I liked most is that when I called to make the appointment the young lady asked me for most of the information. So, when we got here to the appointment there was just a few things to fill out instead of an entire packet of papers. It's located in the mall in the third floor across from Helzebeg Diamonds. Great location if you live at the Post at Pentagon or Riverside apartments it's just a short walk. I will say the glasses are a bit pricey even with a sale . Awesome staff! read more

I have had exams and purchased glasses for the last three years and I am very disturbed to see that the only person taking care of customers is the manager Anthony. Cheap work, cheap service, and now a rip-off. Visionworks broke the glasses frame I paid for them to put in new lenses. In the process, they tell me, they broke my frames. Now unusable. Their fix ? They offered me any frame in the store, but I found nothing that I wanted. So they refunded me Only what I had paid for the new lenses. For my broken frames? Nothing, nada, zip, go pound sand. Awful business. Stay away. Went there because they took my new insurance. Wanted new lenses in my (somewhat expensive) frames. First, they messed up my prescription. Glasses came back and were clearly wrong; hurt my eyes. They promised to send them back to the lab and "rush" the fix. Three weeks later, no glasses. Kept calling and stopping by. Weeks later they finally admitted they lost the frames. Manager kept blaming the lab, but one of his employees said he never sent them to the lab. Avoided my calls for weeks. Would not reimburse me for anything. Basically told me to get lost. Do yourself a favor: try MyEye Doctor. It's just up the street, costs about the same, and has great service. read more

Horrendous experience. Made my appointment, showed up on time, and doctor decided to take someone who came in after me first? After waiting 45 minutes past my scheduled appointment time, the receptionist still had no idea when I would be seen by the doctor. This review is based on recent experience. Poor costumer service from the moment we entered the door. A family member and my elderly parents had to come back multiples times for a wrong lense, wrong frames etc. Not sure they if they were paying attention on details or just one of the bad days, but having my parents come back multiple times, and exposing them to people who might have the virus is unacceptable. Been going to this location for a long time for my eye care, to my wife's and to my kids, and referred them to family members. But our recent experience is very disappointing. read more

Beyond inappropriate music playing for an eye glass shop. Rude front desk lady who sat playing on her phone after haphazardly motioning me to a chair. I felt while waiting that I was inconveniencing them! No hello, no welcome, no how are you, kindness. The place felt just clean enough, but barely passing muster. And as one must wait outside locked doors, none of the 3 employees acknowledged the customer. Put a sign out saying the steps during COVID. Wave and acknowledge her presence. Dr.Keramati has been my physician for over ten years. She only works on Monday and Tuesday but her kind disposition is one of, if not the main reason, I continue to patronize this store. I have seen the office staff change many times over the years, through personal growth opportunities, which is understandable but they always seen to continue the quality of care that has become synonymous with Vision Works for me. We're only in town to see Kim Petras, we saw her show in silver spring last night and tomorrow we have her show in philly and then we drive to see her in boston. The WORST thing that could happen happened- we lost a contact and didn't have a spare. Now we were faced with the intimating problem of what do we do? I am still recovering after shock I experienced at Visionworks Tenley Circle on Wisconsin Ave NW and will send a letter to elevate my complaint to the owners of this place. Our regular very pleasant and professional assistant Jeanette was not there, so another one, Laila, was not only unprofessional, but extremely rude, dishonest, and abrupt. It was outside of any human expectations of "customer service". I was never treated/humiliated like that in my entire life. She refused to serve me after she did not know how to resolve a very simple and very primitive issue, which the manager - who appeared to have the very same manner and lack of any sort of communication skills - resolved rather easily. No apologies from his side either, just discourtesy and rude threats. I thought managers are there to help clients, not to attack and to scare them. I came home in tears and trembling, and with a deep feeling of being discriminated against and treated not only unprofessionally, but unhumanly. Later, I read many reviews and discovered that this particular assistant, Laila, managed to make a lot of clients extremely upset by her lack of professionalism, manners and very rude behavior. Customers were ALERTED not to use this location ever. A lot of angry and unhappy clients! I am not sure people with such attitude to work and clients had any right to be anywhere near service if that sort. And managers should be able to resolve and to convey apologies for the staff who has no idea how to do their job and to work with people. read more

Total incompetence at this Tenley location. The only part of my exam and glasses order that was done correctly and on time was the part where they charged me. The staff is not helpful and never ordered the glasses I paid $230+ for. Those glasses should have come within a week but did not even get ordered for 2 weeks- after 3 long phone calls where I was placed on hold for nearly 30 minutes. When the glasses finally did her ordered and finally arrived, they did not even have the special costing that I paid extra for. So sloppy. I'm still waiting for the refund for that coating-- guess I'll be following up on that, too. Never again. read more

I've been coming here forever since it was Hour Eyes (same corporate parent) and I just don't get the negative reviews. The people are fine and Dr. Patel is a fantastic optometrist. I have something in one eye that they've been keeping an eye on and they take extra care to bring that up and I think they're terrific. Now if you come in here 11am on a Saturday and expect immediate attention when there are 30 customers here, that's on you. Every time, I have a problem with how they charge me, and they seem lost when trying to use my insurance (not that hard - no other doctor seems to have a problem). They had such a problem, they charged my insurance from a job that I left over THREE YEARS ago. No wonder it didn't go through! Not only that, but they charged me for two eye exams (which the 10 minute long exam most likely did not equate too - and was not mentioned until I was asked for my credit card) - and basically told me I have to get at least six months of contacts. Can't speak to the exams or the glasses. But, they really need to work on customer service. I was running a little late for my Sunday appointment; so I called to check that I could still be seen when I arrived. The receptionist assured me that, so long as I was there by 3:50 (for a 3:30) appointment, I would be OK. I arrive right before 3:50 - phew. They hand me forms, so I assume I will be seen. But in the time it took for me to (very quickly!) fill out the required forms, the doctor left! I saw her walk out. Now, I understand not wanting to stay late on a Sunday; and I was late. But they really shouldn't have told me I would be seen, if I wasn't going to be. And they certainly should have had me fill out forms for services I would never receive. read more

The only reason I'm giving this place 1 star is Katia. I can't tell you if the promotional offers or value are any good because I don't have my son's glasses. I went to pick up both pairs a day after they were promised. Only one was ready and the bifocal lens I paid extra for were not measured/cut properly. I could tell second I saw them, and had I not made the associate go check with the eye doctor I would have walked out and been screwed w defective lenses. Oh and when I first went in to pick out the glasses on a Tuesday mid morning I still had to wait over an hour to be seen. Atleast Katia acknowledged me and was apologetic about the wait (and the botched order). read more

I scheduled my appointment online and was seen within 30 minutes. I had one of the later appointments in the day and had a great experience. It was the day before the inauguration so things were relatively quiet. I can see how some people might think that customer service is lacking- the women there aren't 100% bubbly and excited to see you- but BUT if you have a conversation and treat them like a human being maybe they will open up and be friendlier. If that's what you're after. The doctor and the front desk staff and the woman who did my eye puff eval were all professional and quick. I hope that customers can treat office staff with respect....they told me that a lot of people come in grumpy and mean...basically barking at them and complaining before the appointment even started Take a second and think before you open your mouth and shout at someone please ;) read more

Do NOT waste your time with this Dr. Mallika Patel. The most unprofessional Doctor. She is in the wrong profession. I am sure she would be great as a cruise director then a Optometrist. I had a appointment at Visionworks, 4301 Wisconsin Av NW Washington, DC at 11am. At 10:56am She came out and took another patient ahead of me that was her friend. I sat outside of her exam room. They were laughing and partying for 45 min without even starting her exam. So finally I said something to the front desk. Which those ladies were very nice and apologized for the doctor actions. I knocked on the door and the so called Doctor said the patient is a old friend and she had seen her in a long time. I am all for friends but this was not the time nor place to hold a reunion. I was there to give my business for a contact lens exam not for a lunch party. Needless to say I walked out and will never be ever be back. I urge you not to ever make a appointment with Dr. Mallika Patel unless you are on a cruise and she is reserving your time for shuffleboard. read more

I went in for a routine eye exam. While I was there, I asked one of the staff members to adjust my glasses. During the process, she inappropriately yanked the left temple of the glasses upwards and out of place -- promptly snapping the Tiffany and Co. frames I've had for 5 years. She then not only failed to apologize or offer me any compensation, but in fact had the audacity to tell me that I should pay $200 to replace the designer frames she just damaged. I asked to speak to a manager, who also failed to apologize and told me that there was no way to get my frames replaced because they don't carry Tiffany and Co. She then said that she didn't feel I needed a discount because my insurance would pay for me to get different frames that weren't designer. I don't see why I need to change brands just because your employee doesn't know how to properly adjust frames. I was then dismissed from the store with said broken frames and the same lenses I had when I walked in (despite getting a new prescription) while being told that a GM would "call me." The whole interaction was utterly ridiculous. It's apparent that these people don't understand basic customer service or how to complete rudimentary elements of their jobs. I had a wonderful experience with Dr. Marjan. She was so kind and actually took the time to explain what was happening with my sight. She was so sweet she ended up giving me two different prescriptions in case I needed them. I also appreciated that they gave me my prescription, no questions asked. Last time I went to the doctor I asked for my prescription and the doctor was mad at me for not purchasing glasses there. Go see Dr. Marjan, and make sure you go on a Sunday when it's slower. read more

What a terrible place and where to begin. I guess first off, they lost my boyfriend's glasses. LOST THEM. When you spend $300+ on glasses, the least you could do is not lose them, but that's just my opinion. It took them 3 weeks for them to come to the conclusion that the glasses shipped to the wrong shop, but it's not necessarily that they lost the overpriced glasses, it's the fact that every time my boyfriend called for an update, the employee said they would call him back by a certain time, say before noon or before 4 pm, but they never did. And this happened at least 6 times. When you lose someone's glasses, you should have the best customer service to make up for the fact that you're an incompetent glasses store. But no, that's too much to ask for. He would need to call you every time because y'all 'forgot' to call him back. I work in customer service, and even if you do not have an update, you need to still contact the client and inform them of that so the client isn't just waiting around.  Moreover, the doctor said that my boyfriend needed the glasses and could not in good conscious let him leave until he bought some because his vision is so bad, but to emphasize again, you L O S T them. It had been 4+ weeks before my boyfriend pulled the plug. This was absolutely too much leeway for a glasses company to take so long and still not locate the glasses. You should have given more than just a refund for this horsecrap of service. But I wouldn't even trust getting a second pair of glasses for free, because you couldn't even get him the first pair of glasses a month later.  Please revaluate your business by first obtaining customer service and second, maybe deliver the only product you sell on time. read more

I probably should have checked the reviews for this place before going since most of the reviews seem to describe the same terrible experience I had here. The people here are extremely rude and will take any excuse to argue with you, overcharge you, etc. Absolutely incompetent,and overall one of the most horrible customer service experiences I've had. Where to start...We were forced to wait for quite a while despite showing up before the appointment time. We were charged for a variety of things that should have been covered under insurance and only after much argument and a phone call to the insurance company was this settled. On top of all that, when our glasses arrived, the lady practically melted of the leg of my wife's glasses while adjusting it. There was also a large scratch down the middle of one lens. When we complained about the scratch and damage to the frame, we were told that we must have scratched the glasses and therefore the damage could not be repaired. After some additional argument we were told the issue would be fixed. Got a call the next day to pick up the glasses, but when we arrived the glasses were exactly as they were when we had complained. Still waiting for the remake now. Hoping it isn't another 1-2hr argument when we go to pick them up. read more

This is a good, solid place to get contacts/glasses. Nothing special, but good. It was easy to make an appointment (I especially like that they are open until 8 pm on weekdays). I had minimal forms to complete. I have been coming here for years, but only visit like every 4 years or so and they always have my information from my previous visit. What are these negative reviews about? In full disclosure the negative reviews almost steered me away from this place and when I called the receptionist seemed a bit terse. However, when I explained I had just switched insurance and wasn't sure what kind of vision coverage I had she offered to call the insurance company and figure it out for me. When she called and the insurance company couldn't find me she immediately called me back to let me know and obtain some more info to give to the insurance company. By the time I arrived for my appointment she had contacted them and obtained all the documentation they needed. They have a very decent selection of frames in a large price range. I didn't feel at all pressured to get spend more money. In fact, the woman who helped me (and I apologise to her that I didn't get her name so I could mention her specifically here) offered to check several different prices for me to get the best deal. She checked the cost of using their buy one get one free deal, which was only available without insurance. Then she checked the cost if I used my insurance, which gives me 50% off my second pair of frames. When I told her that was more than I was looking to spend she immediately gave me a price for one pair of frames and explained what all the costs were. After we sorted all this out we learned the frames I picked out wouldn't work with my pupillary distance so she spent a long time helping me pick out frames that would work! I haven't even mentioned the doctor yet who was very thorough, helpful, and clearly knowledgable. Ignore the negative reviews. read more

I went in here with some trepidation, given the overall rating the place has here on Yelp. But I have no vision insurance any more, and the $10 exam and 40% off glasses deal was hard to pass up. I have to say I was VERY pleasantly surprised. First, the exam. Dr. Fereydouni's (to be honest I don't remember her name, but I'm trusting the name on the prescription here) exam was probably the most comprehensive and thorough I have received in some time. She took the time to carefully determine my correction (one eye is very nearsighted and has a somewhat complex astigmatism), and in the course of the exam detected early stages of cataracts, so asked me to stay for further exam after dilation. This is in great contrast to the last time i visited my eye dr, who rushed me through in less than 10 minutes & shooed me into their opticianry as quickly as possible. When it came time to pick out glasses, the staff were very helpful and patient with me. I took up a great deal of their time trying a variety of frames on, and when I'd narrowed it down to only 5 or so they took my picture with each so I could make sure my decision was approved by my Aesthetic Manager (i.e. my girlfriend). It took 3 visits in all for me to choose my frames, and they were very nice every time I came in and bugged them with more questions. When I finally chose the frames, they measured everything very carefully. The glasses were expected in 2 weeks or so, but actually showed up in just over a week! They helped me with fitting to make sure everything was aligned right. And with the coupons, the whole thing ended up costing me just over a third of what I paid at my eye dr. last time! Glasses have become ridiculously expensive, now that vision insurance is so common. It's nice to find a good place with competent optometrists, modern equipment, a great selection of frames and helpful and patient staff. And all at (what now passes for) a reasonable price! Next time I need glasses, I won't hesitate to return here. read more

I was at the vision works in Tenleytown, DC today and had what I can only describe as a terrible experience. I arrived at 10:20 for a 10:30 appointment and was not seen until 11. While I was waiting the staff at the front as well as the optometrist got into heated arguments with 3 different customers over different things. I should have left at this point. The only reason I went in was to use my vision insurance. I was ensured over the phone that the visit was covered 100%. When I went to pay I was charged $70 for a contact fitting fee. There was no transparency about this. If I had known I would have reordered contacts online - but whatever. I then went to order an annual supply of Acuvue Oaysis biweekly contacts. The total came to $517 for 2 boxes of 12 per eye. This is 48 weeks. I order the same online for $270. When I questioned this the vision works employee proceeded to show me how to multiply 12 by 2 and that each box is 24 weeks. The next part is extremely concerning for many reasons. She then told me that there are "many more than 48 weeks in a year" and I said yes, there are 52 and she responded with "no, there are way more than that" and proceeded to get out her iPhone calendar and count 5 weeks in October and then start to show me how to multiply 5 weeks by 4 to get 20 weeks in just 4 months which would mean more than 60 in 12... WHAT??? At this point I was so appalled with the arguing and absurdity of the conversation I asked for my prescription and receipt and said I would order elsewhere. She then tried to say they would price match and refused to give me my receipt without continuing to argue with me. Finally after an hour and a half of misery in that office I got my contact prescription and left. Find anywhere else. read more
