What are these negative reviews about? In full disclosure the negative reviews almost steered me away from this place and when I called the receptionist seemed a bit terse. However, when I explained I had just switched insurance and wasn't sure what kind of vision coverage I had she offered to call the insurance company and figure it out for me. When she called and the insurance company couldn't find me she immediately called me back to let me know and obtain some more info to give to the insurance company. By the time I arrived for my appointment she had contacted them and obtained all the documentation they needed. They have a very decent selection of frames in a large price range. I didn't feel at all pressured to get spend more money. In fact, the woman who helped me (and I apologise to her that I didn't get her name so I could mention her specifically here) offered to check several different prices for me to get the best deal. She checked the cost of using their buy one get one free deal, which was only available without insurance. Then she checked the cost if I used my insurance, which gives me 50% off my second pair of frames. When I told her that was more than I was looking to spend she immediately gave me a price for one pair of frames and explained what all the costs were. After we sorted all this out we learned the frames I picked out wouldn't work with my pupillary distance so she spent a long time helping me pick out frames that would work! I haven't even mentioned the doctor yet who was very thorough, helpful, and clearly knowledgable. Ignore the negative reviews. read more

I was at the vision works in Tenleytown, DC today and had what I can only describe as a terrible experience. I arrived at 10:20 for a 10:30 appointment and was not seen until 11. While I was waiting the staff at the front as well as the optometrist got into heated arguments with 3 different customers over different things. I should have left at this point. The only reason I went in was to use my vision insurance. I was ensured over the phone that the visit was covered 100%. When I went to pay I was charged $70 for a contact fitting fee. There was no transparency about this. If I had known I would have reordered contacts online - but whatever. I then went to order an annual supply of Acuvue Oaysis biweekly contacts. The total came to $517 for 2 boxes of 12 per eye. This is 48 weeks. I order the same online for $270. When I questioned this the vision works employee proceeded to show me how to multiply 12 by 2 and that each box is 24 weeks. The next part is extremely concerning for many reasons. She then told me that there are "many more than 48 weeks in a year" and I said yes, there are 52 and she responded with "no, there are way more than that" and proceeded to get out her iPhone calendar and count 5 weeks in October and then start to show me how to multiply 5 weeks by 4 to get 20 weeks in just 4 months which would mean more than 60 in 12... WHAT??? At this point I was so appalled with the arguing and absurdity of the conversation I asked for my prescription and receipt and said I would order elsewhere. She then tried to say they would price match and refused to give me my receipt without continuing to argue with me. Finally after an hour and a half of misery in that office I got my contact prescription and left. Find anywhere else. read more

I went in here with some trepidation, given the overall rating the place has here on Yelp. But I have no vision insurance any more, and the $10 exam and 40% off glasses deal was hard to pass up. I have to say I was VERY pleasantly surprised. First, the exam. Dr. Fereydouni's (to be honest I don't remember her name, but I'm trusting the name on the prescription here) exam was probably the most comprehensive and thorough I have received in some time. She took the time to carefully determine my correction (one eye is very nearsighted and has a somewhat complex astigmatism), and in the course of the exam detected early stages of cataracts, so asked me to stay for further exam after dilation. This is in great contrast to the last time i visited my eye dr, who rushed me through in less than 10 minutes & shooed me into their opticianry as quickly as possible. When it came time to pick out glasses, the staff were very helpful and patient with me. I took up a great deal of their time trying a variety of frames on, and when I'd narrowed it down to only 5 or so they took my picture with each so I could make sure my decision was approved by my Aesthetic Manager (i.e. my girlfriend). It took 3 visits in all for me to choose my frames, and they were very nice every time I came in and bugged them with more questions. When I finally chose the frames, they measured everything very carefully. The glasses were expected in 2 weeks or so, but actually showed up in just over a week! They helped me with fitting to make sure everything was aligned right. And with the coupons, the whole thing ended up costing me just over a third of what I paid at my eye dr. last time! Glasses have become ridiculously expensive, now that vision insurance is so common. It's nice to find a good place with competent optometrists, modern equipment, a great selection of frames and helpful and patient staff. And all at (what now passes for) a reasonable price! Next time I need glasses, I won't hesitate to return here. read more

The retail staff are extremely friendly and informational. They really took their time in finding me a great pair of glasses that are right for me. I was blown away by their commitment to customer service and professionalism. Dr. Keramati was very professional and kind during the exam. I highly recommend this store for a great selection of glasses at modest prices. Definitely will be returning next year. read more

Stay away from the Visionworks and don't bother dealing with the general manager unless your ready to kowtow and agree with everything she has to say. Customer service is dreadful if you have any problems with your purchase. We know how to properly clean and maintain our glasses...we've been doing it for years and have never had an issue with previous eye glasses. Recently when we purchased another pair of glasses at this store, we were dismayed to find that only after a few months the lens were unusually damaged. Keep in mind, these were just a few months old and maintained as per recommendation. Rather than help us find a solution, the general manager lectured and accused of practicing poor eye glass cleaning habits. It was a horrific experience. read more

My co-workers referred me here, however they did not use our vision insurance. They told me my glasses (progressives and transitions) were $1000 and with my insurance I only had to pay $743. Really? In what lifetime does having insurance make the cost of your glasses triple???? Apparently there is a different price list for those who have insurance. I took my prescription to Walmart and paid $300 with my insurance. read more

I wish negative stars were an option. The eye appointment itself was fine, but the staff working out front was the worst I've ever encountered. The receptionist threw my receipt at me at checkout (actually took it from my hands and then threw it at me because I was arguing the price). They failed to tell me they didn't accept my insurance any longer (which had been accepted a year prior). When I argued this wasn't my fault bc the doctor said they took it, the employee told me it wasn't her fault because she was busy when I arrived (the doctor actually checked me in). I paid $90 for an appointment that should've been covered 100% by insurance. I will also say that I overheard two other unhappy customers during my visit (they were complaining about quality of glasses). I wish I had listened to the reviews I read and made an appointment somewhere else. read more

I've gotten a couple of pairs of glasses and an eye exam, and they did a great job for me. Very nice people who even repaired an old pair of glasses I didn't buy there. My wife also goes there with a very complex prescription (trifocals) and they do just as well with her. read more

Awful. Said they would check with my insurer in advance of appointment and notify me of any issues prior to appointment. They didn't do it until I showed up for my appointment , which I oriented my entire day around, only to find out there was an issue and by then it was past the insurers hours to be able to resolve it. Its a great place to get your eyes check and new frames. The staff is very nice and polite, they work fast and most times the frames are ready within the same day. Dr. Patel is absolutely wonderful, my whole family has been going to her for a year now. She takes time to do the exam and explain everything. I would highly recommend this office. read more

The doctor was very sweet, and the exam went very smoothly. The staff was also helpful and very patient with my inability to pick a new pair of frames while mostly blind. However, it took forever for my lenses to come in, and between the prescription being measured off and their inability to fit the lenses into the frames that I had picked, it took over 4 months before I was able to take my glasses home for good. After that, I was happy with them until I started noticing the scratches all over the lenses. I've had glasses since I was 8 years old (30 now) and not even as a kid who was hitting glasses on everything have I had a pair of glasses scratched like this at all, never mind within 6 months. After 6 months I had to go back to my old glasses because the scratches were straining my eyes so badly. When I was originally purchasing the glasses, there was someone in the store complaining about scratches as well, and it sounds like cheaply made lenses is a common problem here. I was offered a 25% discount on new lenses, but I refuse to put more money into cheap crap that will need to be replaced in a few months. Additionally, I was trying to get a formed filled out for my insurance reimbursement. I was informed I needed the form in June, and immediately called the store and faxed it over to Melissa's attention. Originally I worked across the street from the store, but at this point I had switched jobs and worked pretty far away so it was more difficult to get to the store. I called and faxed from June to November before I finally gave in and drove there and physically handed someone the form for my reimbursement. Really poor customer service! I would never buy glasses from here again. Poor customer service once they have your money and poor quality. read more

I had nothing but helpful, professional service here. The store got busier while I was in back fro my eye exam and I worried that payment and checkout would take a long time. I was pleased when I didn't have to wait any longer than for my turn and in fact was able to get my eyeglass frames adjusted without any issue. I didn't give it 5 stars just because they were out of my lens so I'll have to return, but the service was quite excellent! read more

I wish you could give zero stars. These folks are clueless. They don't tell you there's a limited time for followup. Lenses I got are not correct - NOW I have to pay for another exam to fix the problem. The Doctor was very nice during the first exam, but the people answering the phones are rude - they put you on hold forever...and have no sense of customer service. I have never done a Yelp review...but this place is so bad I HAD to do this. Never again! read more

The customer service was good, but the glasses weren't all that great. The lenses seem cheap, they smudge and are very difficult to clean. I previously bought glasses from some cheaper place with my insurance, and never had that problem (easy to clean). For the price I bought them for, I expected better. read more

I had two eye exams that both resulted in poor quality lenses (the problem is both the competence of the exams and the manufacturer of the lens). The optometrists operate more like they are running a factory than a medical office. Their lack of interest in what I needed and their rush to push me off on the staff was a large part of the quality problem. I received a refund on the lens and frames but was refused a refund for the exam (the implication is that I was trying to get something for free) but why would I want a free eye exam that led to lenses for which I demanded a refund and for which I have no paperwork to use elsewhere? read more

This place is poorly run. First, I called and set an appointment, and when I got there they had actually booked it for the next day. I asked if they took my insurance and they said yes, and took all of my insurance information. The doctor was great, but the front office was horrible. The billing was done completely wrong, and when I asked for a receipt they would not provide it. I asked them to walk me through the billing so I could understand how they came up with their total when I had insurance. They were unable to tell me how they came up with the total. I then asked for a copy of the receipt that I signed just so that I could understand how they came up with my total. They refused to give me a copy, and said it was theirs to keep. I asked why I could not get a copy if I just signed it. They refused. Finally they said they would print me a receipt, but their printer was not working. I then called my insurance and was informed that they actually are not in network, and I have no idea why they would lead me to believe that they were. Warning, just stay away. read more

This place is horrible. I went there because of my insurance. Dr. Patel is actually pretty good but the whole experience sucks because the staff is so clueless. After my first exam, she told me to come pick up my trial contacts. I got a call that the contacts are ready to be picked up. I called and made an appointment and when I got there, they couldn't find my contacts. The optometrist that day was not Patel but someone who is a backup.... who is the most clueless person I have ever met. She told me that she doesn't feel comfortable doing my follow up and I should come back another time....whaaa? I was still patient and made another appointment with Patel. I showed up ontime for my appointment and found out that they double booked me..probably because it was a follow up and they weren't going to make any money out of me (but I am just guessing since I don't understand why they would have two people coming at the same time)...waited an hour just for a quick follow up. She changed my rx a bit and ordered me another set of trial contacts. This time she told me that I don't have to see her and can just pick up my contacts. I went back to get my trials and the lady at the front desk told me that I can't take them without seeing the doctor inspite of me telling her that Patel had told me that I don't have to see her. But she continued to argue with me. I waited and then found out that again Patel wasn't in and that the backup optometrist told the receptionist (didn't even bother to talk to me directly) that she can't authorize giving me the contacts and that I should come back when Patel is in..wow...why not? .. I can't believe what just happened... please don't waste your time going here..find better, more coordinated office to spend your valuable time at. read more
