Back again as this has become a New York staple for us. We went aggressive this time and ordered several: pepperoni: solid Hot chick: gross. Never again. Didn't like the sauce Toni Roni: excellent. Honestly I was really surprised by Abitino's. I don't really expect great pizza in the more touristy parts of Manhattan, especially right next to Rockefeller Plaza, but Abitino's showed up when I was hungry and just needed a quick slice on the run. Expect the place to be crowded, it is tourist central in Manhattan after all. Since most people are buying by the slice it clears out quick though so you can probably snag a spot if you're quick enough. Overall seating and look of the place isn't anything to write home about, but it gets the job done, especially for the amount of slices they're outputting every day. It's hard to be as clean as they are in that area. Pizza was great, and even though I'm biased against square pizza I have to say the Spicy Sicilian stood out as the best I had there. Especially after adding the hot honey they had next to the counter. The sausage and pepperoni was delicious. Really my only feedback was that the white pizza was severely under seasoned. They had plenty of shakers, including red pepper, parmesan, salt, pepper, and a custom blend as well, so it was an easy problem to remedy and after adding a tad of salt and some red pepper flakes it was just as delicious as the other two. Pricing was really amazing especially for the location. I have absolutely no complaints about the amount we paid, especially given what some places around the area charge. I get that there's cheaper pizza around but I don't trust those $1 slice places, I've never had good pizza at those. The guy at the counter was a hoot and super friendly even when working with tons of customers. Honestly I would recommend this place to anyone who finds themselves hungry and in the area. Are they the best pizza in NYC? Nah, but if you're going to stick to the Times Square/Theater district area they're one of the best I've had, probably one of the better that I've had in Manhattan even. So if you're willing to cross a river for some better options, this is a solid place. read more

I was out and about in NYC, and was craving a slice of pizza. I came across Abitino's. I got a buffalo chicken slice. The slice was not good at all. It tasted artificial, and it was barely warm. They had quite a few selections of pizza inside, but I doubt it would've made too much of a difference. They have a few tables and chairs to sit at inside, but not too much seating. Staying at the hotel right next to this place and in spite of the fact that there was no one there I thought I'd give it a try. New to the whole New York experience it delivered perhaps as expected. No one greeted me, and the two gentlemen behind the counter were speaking together in Spanish and ignored me. In a weird way this made me happy and I thought "welcome to New York!" Perhaps the experience might've felt even more authentic if they had yelled at me I ordered two slices back to back, one was a veggie and the other one meat. Perhaps my expectations were too high considering everything I had always heard about New York Pizza and I was really excited. In the end, the experience was just whelming... Came here at lunch time because of the reviews and left kind of shocked at how much people like it, particularly when people want to brag on New York Pizza. Since we were starving, And we were curious after the great reviews we wanted to try out a number of different slices. We got two upside down Grandma slices, a grandma pepperoni and a classic New York cheese slice. Of the three varieties, I guess the upside down grandma was the best, although I could find equal or better better pizza at 25 places in Rhode Island and pretty much any city or town here would have one. I'm not saying it's bad. I'm just saying it's super average. The upside down grandma was light and crispy which was good but didn't have much taste to it. The cheese slice had no flavors at all but the back crust was pretty good. The grandma pepperoni was spicier than it probably should have been. It tasted like there was red pepper flakes in the sauce, although there wasn't very much of that. As I said coming from Rhode Island, this is just okay. York are bragging on this place then. I'm not sure why New York has their reputation that it does. It's just kind of okay if you're hungry. There are literally five pizza places within 5 minutes of my house that I would go to before this one if it was in my neighborhood. Not bad, just mid-ish. read more

Got the spicy Sicilian slice and it had a beautiful crisp crust and soft doughy inside. The spice was great and not overwhelming, only complaint is that when they reheat the slice (it had been in the display counter) the cheese stays kind of lukewarm and stiff. The garlic knots were good just lacking a little on the butter and garlic flavor. It's a small inside and very busy, but I like it it's very classic NYC.
