I call it UN-Happy Hour I did not eat lunch or dinner here but based in the menu and prices for happy hour here, I don't expect to be back I had the Bahn Mi sandwich that was decent but this was 10 or 12 dollars and at a happy hour it should have been 5 or 6 dollars The deviled eggs were beautiful but were awful tasting. (My favorite in the city are at South Beverly Grill). Met some friends here for dinner. Very nice restaurant inside the Avalon hotel. We were seated right by the pool which was super nice but a little scary - I am a bit clumsy so I would totally fall in the pool. I asked the waiter if anyone's ever fallen and surprisingly no one has. This place is fairly new so we shall see... Anyways, I was the first one so I was waiting a bit for my friends. The staff is super nice and the ambiance is really nice. Since I knew both friends would be late, I ordered a glass of Sauvignon Blanc and the marinated olives and spiced nuts, which was pretty tasty. When my friends got there, we decided to share the 1/2 Roasted Chicken with dumplings, the Ricotta Ravioli, two salads - the rainbow beat salad and the asian pear and chicory salad and of course a side of fries. The fries and salads came out first and all was delicious. So were our main courses - the chicken was very juicy and tender. Overall a top notch place. A little pricey for my taste but definitely enjoyed every aspect of the meal. read more

Viviane has quickly become one of our go-to places for brunch and lunch. They do serve dinner, though their dinner menu is slightly limited at the moment due to COVID-19. Every time I visit this restaurant, I have trouble processing how fresh everything is. Every single item is made from scratch, including their insane chocolate chip cookies! Best of all, no matter what you order, you will not leave feeling ill. And on top of everything, service is great! I even hate to admit that I have visited multiple days in a row before. What really sets this restaurant apart is its pride in quality. For example, they will not serve certain items if they cannot get fresh ingredients. They get all their fruit delivered each day, for example, so fruit plates often vary by the day. Viviane is further elevated by its environment. Located in the heart of Avalon Beverly Hills, Viviane is adjacent to the pool, where you can swim if you dine in the restaurant. You can also reserve a cabana or sit in one (if there is not one already reserved/occupied). All in all, for a fun, quick, delicious, and healthy bite, look no further! read more

Pros: - free valet! - super easy to get a table and the restaurant was close to empty (I think it's more popular during dinner) - very friendly and quick service - nice outdoor setting by the pool - kid-friendly (they had a coloring kit for my toddler) - the biscuits were good! Cons: - the food was good but my salmon tartine didn't wow me. I think the dinner menu might be better. This is a review for Dine LA! Overall: Viviane is serving delicious food, but I wish there was a tad more creativity. Most of the dishes were straightforward and fairly classic. The service is good as expected, and the restaurant is wonderful. It's a must go to for dinner dates. Food: 4 Warm New Potato Salad included roasted young onions, horseradish, and steelhead trout caviar. They did a surprisingly great take on a classic dish that was delicious. It had all the flavors of a roasted potato salad. The potatoes were tender but not mushy, and the caviar added the right touch of saltiness. Foie gras mousse was sprinkled with peppercorns and included a citrus preserve and brioche toast. Together, all the elements went well together. By itself, the preserve was tart and bitter with a hint of sweetness. With the foie gras and peppercorns, it was the perfect bite. Filet Mignon Carpaccio included celery root, pickled mustard seed, and pan fried croutons. This was also a wonderful dish. The flavors were well balanced and the croutons added the right amount of crunch. Poached Arctic Char included a variety of brassicas. It was a simple dish, but it was good. There was a vegetable puree similar to mashed potatoes (maybe it was potatoes...my memory isn't too good), and a tomato-lobster jus. The sauce was delicious with the fish, which was well cooked. Crispy Duck Leg Confit included turnips and a jus. This was a very classic French dish. The duck was crispy and juicy, and the jus was delicious. It's a good dish for any duck lover. Dark Chocolate Pave was topped with milk chocolate mousse and included a confiture of kumquats, citrus preserve, and blood orange sauce. This was good, even if it wasn't too surprising. The chocolate mousse was a tad too sweet, but the bitterness and tartness of the citruses balanced it out a little. Meyer Lemon Tart included a huckleberry compote. I'm not a fan of lemon tarts, but I thought this was delicious. It wasn't overpoweringly tart, but the lemon flavors were still present. The huckleberry compote went well with it. Service: 4 The service was ok. Our waitress was patient in explaining how their Dine LA menu worked, but it was sometimes hard to get her attention for things like the bill. The food came out at a decent pace, but I wish that the dishes came out one by one, since they are meant to be shared anyways. Ambiance: 5 I love this restaurant. It's modern but classy, and it seems like a great place for a date. The restaurant is mostly glass with a view of the pool at the center of the hotel. Around the pool, there are little cabanas where you can sit and order food. We opted for inside seats because it was a tad too cold for me to be outside. read more

Viviane had a really nice vibe on a weeknight and was a nice place to catch up with friends! They have heat lamps for the outdoor patio and free valet parking. The wine selection is pretty well curated and they offer a nice variety of cocktails if that's more your speed. The desserts are also really decadent and worth trying. We had a pleasant server and would recommend Viviane if you're looking for a nice bar with good food and drinks. read more

I had the ragout of winter squash, which was delicious. The chili vinegar sauce added a nice kick to the grits, and I recommend that you mix it into the grits thoroughly so that you don't end up with just only a couple of bites with that spicy kick like I did. Service here was attentive, though it would have been nice for our server to check in to see if we were doing fine or if we were ready for the next course rather than to wait for us to try and flag her down. Came here for brunch on a Saturday. Lovely outdoor mid-century modern setting by the pool but horribly slow service and food that was disappointingly only ok, especially considering the price. My in-laws both wanted the crispy fried pork belly and eggs, and though it was probably 11 o'clock by the time we placed our order, we were told that the pork belly wouldn't be ready for a long time (brunch service started at 10) and they should order something else. My husband ordered a ginger lime soda and they took so long bringing it that he asked to swap out his order for a coffee. Maybe 15-30 minutes later the waitress came by with the soda and said it had already been made, so they nicely comped it for us. It was very tasty, by the way. It just seemed like communication between the front of the house and the back left something to be desired. I had the king crab and asparagus poached farm eggs on grilled brioche. It was good but hardly worth raving about, and the portion of king crab didn't seem to warrant the $28 price tag. Child had the lemon ricotta pancakes (with strawberries instead of the champagne macerated berries). They were ok but again nothing to write home about - definitely pale in comparison to some of the other restaurants that serve some form of ricotta pancakes, such as BLD or Bottega Louie. read more

Such a pretty spot for brunch! We came here on a Sunday morning and surprisingly there were not that many people. The pool area is so nice and very good for photos. The presentation is nice. We got the pancakes w fresh berries and the Eggs Benedict. The pancakes were soggy and overly syrupy. The Eggs Benedict were much better and I enjoyed the dish minus the poached eggs were slightly overcooked but nothing unforgivable. The hollandaise sauce was very nice and light- not overpowering. My friends and I had a lovely poolside dinner yesterday (Friday) at Viviane in the Avalon Hotel. Our waiter was so friendly and helpful, and every other staff member, kind and attentive. We dined on shared appetizers of avocado tangine, roasted mushrooms, brussel sprouts, and sweet potato fries. It was all very fresh and delicious. Great for lunch meetings, post-work evening drinks/snacks, or for a pool lounge if you're unemployed on a nice sunny LA day (from what I witnessed today -- yes, maybe a little jealous). I came here for a lunch work meeting. I had a reservation, but still got seated immediately upon walking in. If it's nice out, I'd highly recommend sitting outside. And if you want a more private vibe, definitely call ahead (day before or a couple days before is all you need) and ask for an outside cabana. I'm docking one star here because it took probably 15 minutes for a server to come by and get our orders. Granted, it was very busy during prime lunch hour and the pool area was full of kids running around so I understand, but still took a little longer than I'd expect even under those circumstances. I ordered the salmon fish tacos. They were so tasty and PERFECT for a hot day. Very refreshing. I love a fish taco, so I appreciated the little crunch the fish had and the shredded cabbage and salsa also tasted very fresh. We were able to pay the check very quickly, which made up for the time we waited for our orders to be taken. Will definitely be back and will definitely get the fish tacos again! read more

Some thoughts for this spot. Given that you're in Los Angeles, you're going to get asked a lot for gluten free options. TIP: You have a great grain bowl on the breakfast menu but for some strange reason you've added farro, a non gluten free grain, to quinoa and rice, two gluten free grains. If its a three grain effect you're looking for - you could simply add millet or amaranth. Then all your grains would be gluten free. OR you could just have quinoa and rice mix (like Cafe Gratitude) - both of these being gluten free. Having your three grains mixed together - premixed that is - - with no option to leave out the one that gluten intolerant diners cannot eat - means that this dish isn't even an option for your gluten free diners. Shame. TIP: buy some loaves of gluten free sliced bread from Rising Hearts bakery in Culver City, who supply all of Mendocino Farms for their sandwiches. Freeze them. When anyone asks for gluten free toast - voila ! You'll have it for them. #easy With some very simple extra thoughtfulness, the menu here could be a lot more friendly to a lot more diners. read more

My friend and I came here for DineLA event and also celebrating my early birthday. We came earlier so the whole place was all to ourselves. Few hotel guests were sunbathing and few were in the pool. It was a very nice and quiet spot for a Sunday afternoon/evening. DineLA menu: First Course I had the Jumbo Lump Crab & Uni (I asked them to removed Uni for me and just get me crab), and my friend had Sweet Corn Fritters. Jumbo Lump Crab was very refreshing. lemon and cold crab spaghetti was a very good match. Sweet Corn Fritters was almost like a dessert. Second Course Me: Pan Seared Branzino Filet: crispy skin and the vegetable carpaccio was tasty to go with the fish. Friend: Wild Mushroom & Summer Vegetable Risotto: risotto was well cooked, not too hard and not soggy. Consistency was also pretty good, I didn't feel it had too much cheese to overwhelm other favor. Dessert Me: Chocolate Mousse: rich chocolate to satisfy my chocolate love, and I really like the crumble on top (almost like cereal bowl but with chocolate mousse. Yum!) Friend: Eton Mess: really good for summer, looks beautiful and taste light and refreshing. The staff was super nice, friendly. And they have complimentary valet parking at the hotel. After having a less than stellar experience during last season's dineLA at Viviane, we decided to give it a second chance. We weren't pleased with the service last time at Viviane. The kitchen was extremely backed up, so we had spent over 3 hours at the restaurant for supper. This time though, management was wise enough to reduce the dineLA menu from 4 to 3 courses, and it seemed like subtracting one appetizer for each person made the kitchen happier. Just like our last visit, the appetizers we ordered were unique and clean tasting. The duck proscuitto platter was my favorite. Each element in that "summer-themed" plate had a different taste and texture, from the dry-cured duck served with arugula, to the porky rillette that pairs with country bread, to the peach served two ways, one as a grainy mustard and one in thinly sliced form, to the fresh beets and grapes, to the refreshing cucumbers glazed with a tart dressing. The other appetizer, an albacore tartare with giadiniera, was a little messy in my opinion. The giadiniera or small picked vegetables are meant to add a unique flavor profile to the albacore, but I thought that it was overused and that made the dish too bright. Moving onto the main courses, we ordered the mafalde with star anise braised quail sugo and the California white bass. Unlike the appetizers, the execution of these main dishes were somewhat ordinary, nothing too edgy, standard hotel restaurant fare. The taste of the grilled white bass was unremarkable, it was a meaty and mild fish, with texture of chicken. The mafalde dish did remind me of a Thai stir fry, I suppose it was a modern version of something like the pad see ew, with premium handmade wide noodles, substituting chicken with quail, although both probably taste very similar when drowned in the garlic and basil-infused broth. This concept is somewhat alike the Taiwanese Sunday gravy pasta at Status Kuo in Mar Vista, by elevating the quality of ingredients in Asian comfort dishes. Honestly, I thought that Viviane's mafalde was just alright, after having one of the best at Ask For Luigi in Vancouver a few days before. The mafalde there was curly and cooked al dente, and here the texture just wasn't that bouncy. For desserts, we had originally ordered the Japanese Cotton Cheesecake and a Chocolate Mousse, but we were served Black Sesame Panna Cotta and Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream Sandwiches instead. They turned out to be exceptionally tasty, but I wish the server would have warned us that the original desserts on the dineLA menu were not available. I would have switched out the ice cream sandwich for a banana cream pie. Between the two desserts, I thought that the Panna Cotta was by far the more interesting one. It was very well executed, neither too creamy nor watery, had some gelatin structure, and lingering black sesame paste flavor. The taste combination of black sesame, floral vanilla, nut, and fruits clashed very well. It was fairly obvious that this season's menu is Euro-Asian themed. The clean French bistro cooking with Asian flair is no doubt unique and after having two remarkable experiences with Chef Hung's dishes, I'd like to visit again when the menu refreshes next season. read more

I was invited in for the opening weekend and was so impressed. Kelly Wrestler designed the space which has a California cool vibe. We were a group of 4 and thus tried a good portion of the menu. Salads were really bright and refreshing. We shared the beet and apple salad with dill and pumpernickel crisps, and the persimmon and corn salad with a honey-thyme vinaigrette with sunflower seeds. Both were fabulous and seasonal! My favorite section of the menu was the Bigger Bites section: Loved the kabocha squash with brown and wild rice, tofu and miso. A fabulous vegetarian dish that was bursting with flavors of fall. It's hard to go wrong with ricotta ravioli, especially when it is topped with chanterelle mushrooms and brown butter. Homemade linguine was my favorite dish of the night with a chardonnay sauce, clams and breadcrumbs. We also tried a few dishes from the large plates. Shellfish boudin blanc was so unique with perfectly cooked lobster and gulf shrimp. Mary's chicken was perfectly roasted and served with flavorful dumplings and veggies. I adored the confit let en croute that came with the seared duck breast but thought the skin on the breast could have been crispier. The creamed spinach was lovely - not too rich but still satisfying. The goat cheese cake was our favorite dessert and had a really interesting savory, sweet combination. Service was so on point. Cal-American in concept with cuisine from Michael Hung, Viviane occupies the space adjacent the Lobby at the iconic boutique space and stretching onto a patio where celebrities including a famous Foo Fighter are prone to be seen lounging the service is professional with a side of aloofness, the sort of place where empty glasses may go unnoticed...unless refills can increase the tab. Having admittedly reached out to M. Bombet prior to making reservations, the dinner-only dessert menu coveted in addition to the brunch bill of fare, it was in two-rounds consisting of eight plates that the afternoon unfolded, a carved out enclave overlooking the hourglass-shaped pool our home for the duration with chairs and temperatures that made any-pace-but-fast perfect with lingering not only appropriate, but pleasant enough that it would have been a nice place to take a nap. Beginning savory before veering sweet, the biscuits nothing worth writing home about beneath "California Chili" that confusingly refers only to dried flakes in the cheese fondue, Ricotta Ravioli were equally decent though a touch overpriced considering the thickness of the packets and four-piece portion while the aromatic ragout atop creamy grits was the clear winner amongst vegetarian plates. Thrilled by the fried chicken, a bath in buttermilk and spices giving the flesh plenty of nuance beneath an adherent golden shell that crackled and shattered to the tooth, it was onward to dessert that the meal soon progressed and although the teensy Lemon Tart was not particularly noteworthy both the Almond Butter Cake and Sticky Toffee Pudding were beautiful riffs on tradition, the former eating almost like warm pudding while a "Slab" of Brioche was indeed enormous, so much so that custard barely managed to penetrate thus leaving it to eat more like chocolate honey toast. read more

I came here twice for dineLA, once for dinner and once for brunch. Not everyone in our party had to order off the dineLA menu, but we were warned that adding regular menu items could result in some timing issues which other people have commented on. We didn't experience any. For dinner, I started with the MANHATTAN FLIGHT, a great way to sample their three manhattans. The dineLA dinner menu included a choice of two appetizers, a main and a dessert. I agree that the appetizers and desserts were the best parts. The FILET MIGNON CARPACCIO and the FOIE GRAS MOUSSE were both fantastic. My entree, the CRISPY DUCK LEG CONFIT, was pretty good. Dessert was so beautifully plated. I tried both the DARK CHOCOLATE PAVÉ and MEYER LEMON TART. Dinner was definitely pricey, but we enjoyed sitting at a cabaña poolside. I returned with a couple of other friends for brunch. The dineLA menu allowed for a choice of any two items from a list of various egg dishes, grains and salads. I decided on the CRISPY FRIED PORK BELLY AND EGGS and the RAINBOW BEETS AND APPLE SALAD. Another awesome meal! Viviane is located inside the Avalon, but as nice a place as Viviane is, they almost overcharged me by quite a lot for dinner. When I checked my credit card statement, my charge of approximately $100 was instead $500+! It was definitely much more than an inflated tip. The good news is that I contacted the restaurant and after speaking with the general manager and providing him with a copy of my receipt and credit card statement, he quickly apologized and refunded me the difference. I'm glad it wasn't a hassle and I'm thankful I make it a habit to reconcile my statements...something all of you should be doing! read more

V for good vittles? Viviane spreads out like Kudzo grass from the entry way inside and outside around the pool of the restyled Avalon Hotel.The look is the Jetsons do South Beach. It was orignally billed as contemporary French (now just European, whatever that is) although the Chef is Vietnamese who trained in some of the hottest hot spots on both coasts. (Late of Faith and Flower, DTLA). Okay, the French owned and operated Vietnam from 1793 to Dien Bien Phu when they passed the colonial privilege to us. However, as the French would say, pas aint Francais. It's essentially whatever Chef Michael Hung thinks will fly. It isn't so much French as much as it is, well, Hung. The menu is limited, therefore you must chose wisely as Yoda dictates because not everything soars here except the tab. I lost faith and was de-flowered. The wine list has some interesting options, but be advised you will have to buff up your D and B profile and many choices require a second mortgage or a missed payment on the Bentley. The Staff: Delightful and attentive. Why not? There was hardly anyone in the place, but no matter, Rachel truly shined. She knew the menu cold and hot. She was charming and worked as hard as Ben's Nanny to please. The Vibe: Who goes there? Anyone who couldn't badge their way into Republique. The Bar Program: The standards. The Margarita was a trainee's first night in a place without a sticky floor. A good Marg should unleash your inner Lupe Velez and make you wanna dance on the table with castanets until there is peace in the World. Alas, this was barely a Marginal-ita. The Pineapple Punch had some. It was the ethanol high note. I know, as only one made me slightly high. Hamilton Guyana Rum, Aromatique Bitters, a sleepy Pineapple spear, and Orgeat. It was decent, no question. I washed that down with a glass of Pinot Noir from Santa Barbara County, Tatomer 2014 at a whopping $20 per pour. I slurped some of the Riesling, Eidener Treppchan Kabinett 2012 which had the lowest level of sweetness, kinda like my first college perma-squeeze. Just a faint trace of sugar on the tongue. Ain't no bread service here. Damn, I needed a warm fresh baguette so it was Mixed Olives and Spiced Nuts instead. Hmmm...direct from Kirkland. The Food: The Little Gem Salad (whole heads instead of deconstructed), Hard Cooked Egg, Crispy Salumi, with Smoked Bacon Vinaigrette. It read great but is was like going to see Cats, you end up humming the sets and can only remember one song "Memory"...Crispy Salumi. The Spring Pea Salad, Young Lettuces, Preserved Lemon Ricotta, Crispy Brioche was a better deal, especially if you like peas. One of life's little underrated pleasures is having a nice pea, for sure. The Porcini Ravioli, Delta Asparagus (slivers), and Perigord Truffle Butter (I don't think the pig let go of that one.) The butter winked at the truffle once and that was it. The bonus were the mini fried croutons. (Shoulda had a bucket of those instead of the Planter's Spiced Nuts.) This dish was small, but was actually very tasty. So much for sharing. Touch my four ravioli and and I will bounce a Spiced Nut off your melon. The Dorade Royale was baked in Salt and Herbs, with Creamed Leeks and Grain Mustard. I found the fish moist and quiet lovely in that delicate way good fish can be, if just a hair salty. (Which is better than finding a salty hair). The leeks were goopy chewy adult scallions. How bout some Haricots Verts with Gremolata for color, taste, and texture? Just sayin', Brother Michael. Dessert: Blueberry and Thyme Napolean, Thyme Mousse, Blueberry Compote, Puff Pastry. This took too much thyme....just eat the blueberries. Cognac Flambe Alaska, Griottine (macerated in eau de vie or kirsch) Cherry Ice Cream, Lime Shortbread (requiring a pocket sized chain saw to cut through) and Blackberries. OMG, I'm in L-O-V-E with Viviane! I was lucky enough to have dinner in one of the cabanas outside by the pool & i loved the ambiance. The weather was perfect, the atmosphere was chill & the music was great. Our table ordered a wide variety of dishes & everything was delicious! But if i have to pick my favorite dishes I would say start with the Fois gras, tuna tartare & little gem salad, move on to the Rib eye steak, mashed potatoes & creamed spinach and then end with the poached pear almond frangipane. Restaurant is located on the first floor of Avalon Hotel in Beverly Hills. Came here for a birthday brunch and were able to reserve a table under the cabana near the pool. The decor is cute and modern and all the food is plated beautifully. A great place for photo ops and celebrations. All the food was delicious and brunch prices range from $15 to $20 a plate. The most memorable dish was the massive french toast - which was a few inches high and topped with fruit and chocolate sauce. Unforunately, we had brought a cake to share for the birthday girl and was turned off by the $9 cate cutting fee per person. We decided to take the cake home and enjoy it there. Had a dinner here during DineLA...Just some tips to share: - This is a very casual restaurant. Dress comfortably, because you might spend more than 3 hours here. We sat outdoors where the temperature oscillates between being too hot and too cold. I didn't feel very comfortable in my fitted dress. - The restaurant does feel bad to make you wait for such a long time. Their kitchen was backed up. They gave us an alcohol soaked Crepe Flambe as compensation for the long wait for food. It had way too much liquor and tasted awful to me. - Don't expect anything special or a candle on the dessert you order if it's your birthday dinner. - I enjoyed the filet mignon carpaccio and the duck leg confit, but wasn't a fan of the service or the dinning experience. read more

How does this have all these stars, went on Valentine's Day, they had a special menu, the food was bad except dessert, the service terrible, inexperienced waiter and super slow, got there at 7:30 pm and left at 10pm, but not by choice, we had planned to be there for only half an hour. And valet parking sucked too!!! You get out of your car at the front of the hotel but there is no signage that you pick it up behind so we stood there for 15 minutes in the cold waiting for a valet who never came. They also add a service charge, and wellness charge to your bill. They added items to our bill but thank God we caught it so be sure to check or simply don't go here. Sat down at Viviane for breakfast when I was staying at the Avalon hotel. Was definitely the only one down there at 7am, so it was very quiet and peaceful. The decor is in line with the rest of the hotel, has a really fun, graphic vibe that matches the pool deck. I ordered a smoothie and the Lemon ricotta pancakes which could have been a 5 on their own, but the berry topping was way intense that I pushed them to the side and ate around it. The pancakes usually come with granola as well which I'm sure would add something, but I'm allergic so I can't comment on that! I'm sure if I tried a couple other menu items my rating could go up, just wasn't my best ordering morning. read more

Dinela lunch. The food was very good, especially the salad, I really liked the salad. There were a numbet of different lettuces, including a little frisee, and watermelon and black radishes, mandolined paper thin. The dressing was creamy and tangy. A really nice salad and generous portion. The chicken dish, cut and formed into a rectangular log, and sliced. I think it was all white meat, and it was moist, with a nice sauce. It was a very refined, graceful dish. The trout was nicely cooked, but needed some salt. I just personally, generally, get so bored with French food, no matter how many times I've tried to like it. I don't dislike it, and no offense to French food lovers. The service was good. read more

Stopped in for Saturday brunch at Viviane poolside, and it was fantastic! I'm such a huge fan of the mid-century modern vibe. More importantly, the food tasted amazing. I had the poached eggs with warm quinoa salad, while my husband had the crispy pork belly with eggs. My dish was flavorful and full of different textures - really yummy. It also felt pretty light and healthy. The crispy pork belly with eggs was just out of this world - everything worked so well together, the charred tomato salsa, the fried tortilla that served as a crispy base, the runny eggs, the creamy sauce - not a drop of which we wasted. To top it all off, we had some chocolate cake with salted caramel and some sort of hazelnut mousse, and it was heavenly! I'm not even a chocolate fan and I loved this dessert. My only complaint was that I wanted more. Portion sizes aren't tiny, but I would have appreciated a little more sustenance. Perhaps that's the strategy though - keeps you coming back! read more

One of my girlfriends and I went to Viviane initially for the Dine LA menu, but decided that all the super appetizing dishes were off the menu. Feeling spontaneous, we opted out.. We're so glad that we did. What we drank: The Manhattan Flight (3 samples of different whiskeys/bourbons). For $15, this was quite a deal and quite a large amount of EtOH (nerd alert)! What we ate: Foie Gras mousse - DELISH!! More brioche please! Salmon Tartare - One of my weaknesses that reminded me of Bouchon! Ricotta Ravioli - DA BOMB.COM! Melt in your mouth goodness that cannot be missed Handmade Linguini - Holy Moly this was good! Ribeye Steak - Can't go wrong with rib-eye Sweet Potato Toffee Pudding - Least favorite dessert, but I guess its because I'm a purist when it comes to toffee pudding. The sweet potato made it seem more pumpkin.. it was just okay Overall, considering some harsh reviews, we had a fantastic time. I've been here three times, and I think it's a hidden gem in Beverly Hills. For a date night, it couldn't be cuter or feel more secluded in the middle of the city. Drinks, food and service are all wonderful and memorable. I recently hosted a corporate event here, and the event planning staff (Kristin, Danielle and Patrick) were responsive, creative and ultimately attentive in putting on a successful cocktail mixer for a very demanding crowd. Someone always made sure that glasses were full, the food came out in very well-timed waves, and the stationary charcuterie platter really exceeded expectations. Came here for Restaurant Week. Really like the place. Mid century modern, like you are in Palm Springs. You can eat by the pool or inside. Hard to decide. The foie gras mousse was excellent as was the citrus preserves that came with it. The brioche that came with it was small for the amount of the mousse and was too flakey. I would have selected a different type of bread. The warm new potato salad was very good too. Came with caviar. Only objection is that there was too much oil in the dish. It seemed to overwhelm the other flavors and everything was oily. The arctic char with lobster emulsion was a disappointment. It came with vegetables which were very good but both the sauce with the vegetable and the lobster emulsion with the fish actually took away from the dish. They really didn't work in combination for me. It was a nice size piece of fish. The chocolate desert was very good. Go for it! read more

This review is only for Happy Hour from 3pm to 6pm. Established in 2015, Viviane is located inside the Avalon Hotel. A very chilled, intimate and relaxing place to hang out and catch up with friends over good food and drinks. Also, great for date night too! Each table is adorn with a small candlelight and succulent plant. You can eat either inside the restaurant or even by poolside. During the day, they serve breakfast, brunch and lunch. Parking: Complimentary valet. No ticket validation needed if dining at Viviane. Just tip your driver as they bring up your car. Fast and friendly valets. Met up with Yelper Isobel L., for Happy Hour before heading off to the Samuel Goldwyn Theater later on that night for the Hidden Figures / Modern Figures Event. We had an hour to kill before then, and here's what we got: Roasted Sweet Potato $6 - made of garlic lime yogurt with curried cashews and cilantro. Overall, this was the best dish of the night! The sweet potatoes were so smooth and creamy, well puréed. Mixed with the garlic lime yogurt, it made for a delicious and well-balanced, blend of sweet and tangy flavors. Garnished with cilantro for presentation, and mixed in with curried cashews for a tasty crunch, yum! Tuscan Tomato Soup & Grilled Cheese $10 - sadly, I was disappointed. Honestly, it should have been $5. When the dish was brought out, only half of the grilled cheese came with it. Where's the other half?! Split between the two of us, about three bites in, and you're done. I somewhat liked the grilled cheese - it was crispy and golden, made with crème fraiche, chive and caramelized onions - it was a fancy and grownup "grilled cheese" version. The tomato soup was decent too, but needed to be heartier. It was a bit runny. I would not get it again, unless the other half of the sandwich comes with it. Mezze $12 - served with prosciutto di san daniele, crudités (carrots, cucumbers and radishes), hummus and flatbread. Everything was delicious except for the prosciutto. It didn't looked fresh, and the flavor was bland. However, the rest of the plate was yummy! The crudités (carrots, cucumbers and radishes) were fresh, healthy and crunchy. The flatbread was fluffy and crispy. Topped with the hummus, made for a wonderful spread. Though, if they omitted the horseradish mixed inside the hummus, it would've tasted a lot better. It threw me off in the beginning, but with each bite, my taste buds adjusted to it. Lastly, we got the Grilled Octopus $16 from the dinner menu because Happy Hour ended at 6pm. The grilled octopus was squishy, thank goodness not rubbery. It wasn't grilled all the way, and so it didn't have that tasty, crunch effect I was hoping for. (My favorite grilled octopuses are from Bestia and Factory Kitchen). Served on a bed of spiced lentils and chickpeas, while topped with chorizo, roasted red peppers, and crème fraiche, it was a pretty decent appetizer. The flavors were good, but a bit too spicy for me though. Ended taking some cough syrup later that night because it irritated my throat. I would not get this again. Drinks: Flat water served at our table, and never emptied. It was always refilled by our two female servers. I ended up getting a Shirley Temple ($5) (Made of Sprite and cherry grenadine syrup) - only because I have an upcoming blood test on Saturday at my doctor's office - trying to be good, lol! The Shirley Temple was light and refreshing. Had it not been for my upcoming blood test, I would have gotten a Peach Collins ($8). I was also bummed that their Green Goodness Smoothie ($9) (Made of granny smith apples, celery, spinach and cucumbers) was only served during breakfast time. I was hoping to get that drink for some extra internal cleansing, lol! As for Isobel, she got the Gin Gimlet ($9) and Daiquiri ($8). They both looked tasty. From what Isobel had mentioned, the drinks were poured in small glasses, and alcohol wasn't too strong, and so her two drink minimum, she drank for both of us, hehe! Service: I was immediately greeted upon entrance, and was thanked again for coming as we left. Friendly and helpful waitresses and busboy. They answered any food and drink questions that we had, while making sure our dirty dishes were cleared away, and of course, always refilling our water and drinks (if we wanted anymore). Food and drinks also came out quickly too. No pretentious and snooty staffers here, yay! Overall, Happy Hour at Viviane was pretty good (I was, especially, pleased with service and ambience). I'll definitely be coming back here again at some point to try out their breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner. I'm excited for January 2018 DineLA menu (hoping they'll be participating), and hoping that that'll round Viviane up some more stars, yay! read more
