Came here for brunch on a weekend. Overall good experience, cool ambiance, friendly servers, good menu. Main complaint was the slow service (the inside portion of the restaurant had a private event when we were there). We sat outside around the pool area, awesome vibe! Valet parking was complimentary which was also a huge plus. I got a breakfast burrito and latte. Portions were as expected / on the generous side. My partner got the eggs Benedict. Food was delicious!

The ambiance was nice. Old Hollywood vibes in a good way. The live music did not match with Valentine's Day though and the food was just so meh I was so disappointed. Especially going there for their Valentine's Day prix. They didn't have any recommended wine pairings which was strange for $100 a person. I wanted to like it so much. With complimentary valet I'm willing to try the brunch for the final time.

Great service and delicious food! Our server made wonderful recommendations on the entrees, the airline chicken was flavorful and tender. My house made pasta with added shrimp was pretty cheesey and paired well with the garlic flavor grilled shrimp. The restaurant has beautiful decor that reminds me of Palm Springs, would love to visit again for their brunch FREE valet Parking was super nice!

This place is so great! I stay at the Avalon often and I wake up looking forward to eating here. :) First the food, I've gotten several things on the breakfast/lunch/dinner menu and they're all amazing. My favorites are the kale salad with an added protein. The hamachi crudo is *delicious* I'll be enjoying that tonight. Their steak frites and chicken are my go-to entrees. For breakfast I love their smoothies and their avocado toast with perfectly cooked-to-order egg. On Wednesdays they host the dreamiest live music and half-off bottles of wine. This brings me to the ambiance. The property is so old school Hollywood/Los Angeles. The pool, the palms, string lights. There are photos online of when Marylin Monroe was staying here. It's just perfect for a great meal and live music. Lastly the service is incredible. Everyone is so super nice in their own unique way. It feels really genuine. Highly recommend this place!

A Wonderful Stay at The Avalon - Highly Recommend! I had the pleasure of staying at The Avalon this past week (August 26 - September 3rd) while visiting from Florida, and I truly couldn't have picked a better hotel--or a better location. Everything was within walking distance, which made exploring the area so easy and enjoyable. What really made my stay exceptional, though, was the staff. The restaurant team was an absolute delight every single day--kind, professional, and consistently offering outstanding service. And then there's Carlos at the front desk. Every great hotel has that one standout person, and Carlos is definitely that for The Avalon. From the moment we arrived, he was incredibly helpful, always greeting us with a warm smile and a genuine willingness to assist. His customer service is impeccable, and he's a true gem of the hotel. If you stay here, be sure to look for Carlos and let him know about this glowing review--he absolutely deserves it. Also, if you can, request Room 222--great location and very comfortable!

Lovely spot for Sunday brunch. We came here to celebrate my friend's graduation and we all enjoyed it. The place was not too busy on a Sunday morning but I still recommend making a reservation like we did, just in case. They have a relaxing outside dining area with the pool in the center. Our server was kind and explained the menu as we mentioned that it was our first time. I had an açaí bowl, which was very refreshing for a sunny morning, and a warm and delicious French toast.

I come back to the Avalon at least 45% because of this restaurant. Breakfast and lunch options are fantastic, including the salmon bagel board, the fresh and tasty yogurt bowl, and the shrimp tacos. I've loved everything I've tried. The /SERVICE/ though. It's so great. The team here is so welcoming and sweet. Jason especially is extremely attentive and sometimes I swear he can fully read minds (fresh cold brew before I even thought to ask for it!!!). There are other great things about the hotel, but this restaurant is a standout. I'll keep returning every time I'm in LA.

fish tacos; mediocre, not very good
    Daniel H.

Very kind, polite, genuine staff provided excellent service and made me feel very comfortable. But that's where good things end. I ordered fish tacos at the server's recommendation. Fish was dry and it just wasn't well balanced. Not bad but not good either, just something to fill the stomach with. I also ordered a piece of chocolate cake as dessert. It was very cold and very dry, definitely not fresh. Felt like a deli cake from the fridge, but just plated with extra berries. Overall, absolutely not worth the price.

Pull up. Valet your car. Swing through the hotel doors. Cut past the table tops. Out the door. Plant yourself at a table next to the pool. Throw on your shades and order a nice drink. You'll feel like Jerry McGuire taking a meeting to close a deal. Or maybe the lead singer of an 80s hair band discretely drinking off that all night coke-fueled hotel party from the night before. Yeah. That's the vibe.

On multiple occasions, Elton has given me poor service and a noticeable attitude. I chose to overlook it at first, but eventually I brought it to management's attention because the treatment was consistent and unacceptable. After that complaint, the situation escalated. When I returned, Elton refused to serve me altogether. He would not look at me, acknowledge me, or take my order. I was left sitting there while being completely ignored. It became so obvious that other guests sitting next to me noticed and were concerned enough to step in and ask him why I wasn't being helped and to tell him to serve me. That should never have to happen. I then asked for the manager I had previously spoken to, Leo, because I wanted to understand what was going on. I still have not received any clear explanation. What's most concerning is that this behavior feels intentional. No employee in hospitality gets to decide who they will or will not serve based on personal feelings. If a staff member's feelings are "hurt" after a complaint, that does not justify refusing service to a guest. That is not professionalism--that is the opposite of hospitality. It was honestly disturbing enough that the people next to me told me directly that it didn't feel right and that I shouldn't come back because it seemed like I wasn't wanted there. That is not okay, especially at an establishment of this caliber. I am actively trying to get in touch with someone at the hotel who can properly address this situation, because this needs to be taken seriously. No guest should ever feel ignored, singled out, or unwelcome in this way.

I emailed the bar to make a reservation since the online system was down, and they emailed back immediately to confirm -- and even said they would surprise my mom with an extra birthday cake! Now all I had to do was wait 3 weeks until her visit so the experience could finally happen. The day arrived and I got my mom to Maybourne Bar with her none the wiser. From the moment we stepped through the door, the experience was a 1 million out of 10. Every course is unbelievable. This is a caviar tasting in the best way -- all nine courses are topped with generous helpings of delicious N25 caviar. You get sweet, salty, savory, comfort food, upscale dining, everything comes together in the absolute best way. I especially loved the deconstructed deviled egg and the lobster roll, and the ice cream was some of the best I've ever had. The chips and dip came with the cutest miniature potato chips (although I'll admit I could have used a few more), and the caviar salmon burger was super flavorful. And, true to their word, they surprised my mom with a birthday cake -- and then surprised us both with complimentary lychee cocktails! The service was impeccable as well. Each person on the waitstaff was kind, helpful, and accommodating. We loved how descriptive they were of each dish. It was also really nice of them to decide to give us an extra 2-top so we would have room for all of the courses. This is not only an incredible tasting menu, but made even more incredible by the price. 10 courses and a glass of champagne are $85. I was honestly shocked at how much we received for under $100. I cannot recommend this experience highly enough. This is a true gem in Beverly Hills. I'm already planning my next visit!

What was frustrating is that he never mentioned happy hour had ended while we were waiting for him to come back. We were then charged $10 for the original drink we never received, and the replacement drink was charged at full price because happy hour had expired. That didn't feel fair since the delay was entirely on the server's end. To make matters worse, a 20% service charge was already added to the bill, yet the service was some of the worst we've experienced. Between the long wait, poor communication, and incorrect charges, the experience didn't match the reputation or prices of this restaurant. I wouldn't recommend it based on the service alone. I really gotta respect their dedication to red meat and the holy art of cooking a damn good steak. This place is essentially what I'm looking for in a restaurant. Basically hits on all cylinders and checks off all the critical boxes. I don't want to sound all dramatic and such, but I'm dying to go back and try all the other items I didn't have, as well as check out the bar experience. I spoke to some locals outside before they opened, and they weren't just lovely -- they also painted a pretty picture of what the overall vibe is here. It's clear a lot of people in the Beverly Hills and Hollywood Hills area love coming here very frequently. Our server, who I assumed is named Nolan because that's what's shown on the receipt, was very accommodating, kind, and easy to talk to. I think he did a fantastic job dealing with my difficult, picky gf. Haha. I can't say anything was less than stellar. The croquettes in that celery purée stuff were phenomenal. Garlic bread was seasoned and baked to perfection. The bone broth sipper was nourishing af. French fries were perhaps the best I've had in years. Broccolini was fresh, high quality, and complimented the steak very well. I'm bummed we only got to try just the ribeye when it came to the cuts, but my gf did not want to order anything under medium or medium rare that night, so that was a bummer. It's her loss! The panna cotta was the creamiest sweet treat in all of LaLa Land. This is a great place, and it's a top-tier steakhouse. SoCal sometimes lacks places of this caliber that NY, Chicago, and SF / Napa have, but this place is a very close contender to some of the top cream-of-the-crop, steak-centered restaurants in the country. Upon arrival, we were greeted warmly and seated promptly. Unfortunately, our initial table was extremely close to a very loud neighboring party, making conversation difficult. To the restaurant's credit, the staff accommodated our request to move, and the new table significantly improved the experience. The food was excellent. We ordered the Dinner for Two, and every component was well executed and enjoyable. The quality of the beef was evident, and it was clear why MATŪ has built such a strong reputation. The cocktails were also well made. Where the experience began to unravel was the service. Wine service took roughly 20 minutes, dessert was noticeably delayed, and our server seemed to disappear for extended periods throughout the evening. The most frustrating part came at the end of the meal when it took more than 25 minutes to receive the check. When it finally arrived, it was delivered by a manager in a manner that felt dismissive rather than hospitable. To make matters worse, an automatic gratuity had already been added to the bill. While I understand the practice in some situations, it felt particularly disappointing given the level of service we received throughout the evening. MATŪ serves outstanding food, and that is what earns this review more than a few stars. However, hospitality is about more than what comes out of the kitchen. For a restaurant operating at this price point, the service should match the quality of the food. Unfortunately, on this visit, it did not. I left impressed by the meal but disappointed by the overall dining experience, and I'm not sure I would return.

The decor is top-notch, with a vibe that feels like a PCH getaway, minus the ocean. The staff was professional, friendly, and attentive across the board. Our server had that polished resort-service energy while still being cool and personable. I started with the Two Way Margarita -- or something like that; after the second one, the name got a little blurry. I was a little bummed they had run out of sushi rolls, but they made up for it with the tuna crispy rice and tuna tartare, which were both excellent. Funny enough, both still had sushi elements, so I'm not sure how that worked, but I'm not complaining. For entrees, we ordered the branzino and shrimp curry. The food was very good -- maybe not the best I've ever had -- but the ambience and service elevated the whole night. What might've been an 8.5/10 meal became a true 10/10 experience. I'd definitely recommend Gemma for a date night, anniversary, or anyone looking for a beautiful rooftop dining experience in Beverly Hills.
