DO NOT EVER UPGRADE YOUR SYSTEM WITH THIS COMPANY. We've had Vivint for 10yrs. The door and window sensors worked perfectly, the control panel never had an issue. My wife and I decided to upgrade to the door bell camera and surveillance cameras around the house. This upgrade would require the use of our WIFI, which is 5g, and an upgrade with the control panel. The issues started before the technician got out of the house. He said it was the WIFI. Well once that was corrected, we still couldn't use the cameras. Here is the crazy part, they are partially hard wired. Customer support; useless. They are no help. Good luck getting a technician to your house 3wks tops now that we can all blame COVID-19 on lousy service and customer support. Paid thousands of dollars for alarm system/monitoring system with most of the bells and whistles to include a hard drive for continuous loop monitoring. After the install was complete I was told that the hard drive was not in yet and that it would take a few weeks to get one, that was over three months ago as I have just called them only to find out now they're telling me it's going to be 16+ weeks more. So in other words, I now have a system at home that I can't control from my phone. The idea of having my voice/camera system and all the other gizmos attached to my house is to receive alerts from the alarm system. You would think that after you cancel your services what goes away is the home monitoring that can alert law enforcement... NOPE! I have no access trough my app now. Telling me he just needs to check my old system alarm because he is going to change out the old system for free ...telling me he's going to upgrade the sign outside ... being the idiot i am I let him in my house . He was obviously frustrated with my two dogs and kids, uncomfortably I watched his every move thinking " why did I just let a stranger into my house".I was in the middle of calling my husband and noticed he was on my couch with his head in his hands . Shoving my dogs away from him noticeably irritated.I just got a bad feeling . I walked to my door and asked him to leave nicely and he wouldn't! I was terrified I screamed at him to leave and it took four good get the fuck out of my houses for him to get out . He claimed" I just need an I Ibuprofen I just have a headache ". I'm holding the door open ,and one of my dogs get out so I follow him out to get my dog and He then begins telling me that being my home gave him a headache ,telling me I need a dog trainer ,a kid trainer, and skills on parenting !!he was in my house a total of 6 minutes maybe .. I would be aware of this and never open your door to anyone ! My kids are terrified my daughters both have been crying all night because they thought he was going to hurt us this is the man in the photo . Terrible customer service! I used their service for years, paying them thousands of dollars. I cancelled the monitoring but kept the panel up so that I could still set the alarm. Now my panel goes off several times a day with an alert that my smoke detector battery is low. It is not low, I've replaced the batteries several times. I've called the company twice and they have been no help. All they have to do is open my account back up, clear the codes and we would be good to go. But apparently that is too much trouble for them! Vivint Security are crooks. They send clean cut looking young men from Utah and Idaho to canvass transitional neighborhoods selling alarm systems. The entire process started with a lie. We were repeatedly told by Ian, our sales rep, that if we cancelled our triple play through Comcast, we would be able to get our internet and cable for less than we're paying now. It's a lie. The only way to not pay more (with both Vivint and Comcast) is to dramatically decrease internet speed and our channel offering. Of course, the salesman insisted I had to cancel with Comcast in writing, which would ensure that I wouldn't find out about the lie until after the three day cancellation period. The second lie was in checking my credit. I again repeatedly told Ian I understood that he would have to run a hard pull, which I understand drops off pretty quickly, but I also told him I didn't want a balance showing on my credit. He assured me multiple times that that would drop off after 30-60 days. It does not. Instead, it shows a five year debt (yes, their contract is five years - far exceeding most of their competitors). I told Vivint about the lies, and they agreed to let me cancel five days after signing up. They scheduled a time to have the equipment removed about three weeks later. I asked them to let me know if something earlier came up. Well, something earlier did come up, but instead of asking me, they cancelled the appointment I agreed to and instead scheduled the earlier time. Unfortunately, that time didn't work for me. They rescheduled an appointment for the original day, but for a worse time. Then, the rep was a no-show, after we waited at home, despite having other obligations. I spent two hours on the phone with Vivint trying to get someone out there, but to no avail. Not happy at all with this transaction with Viviant home security. First off for the system I purchased which consisted of a door bell camera, 3 outdoor cameras, key pad, Wi-Fi range extenders, smart lock, this was there take over package .. $4000.00. Way to expensive. The salesman was very misleading. When I asked if the system would run off my Wi-Fi he answered no later come to find out that it does run off my Wi-Fi and I had to up my broadband package so now I'm paying more for that. After I had left to work he return to my home to inform my wife that he was going to throw in a third camera to our package at no cost. When I got the bill The third camera 399 extra. I was also not inform of a missing piece of equipment that doesn't seem to be important to the system but I am being charged for it but I'm not utilizing it. that would be the smart drive for 349.99. Despite what the salesman says I understand you are financing all your equipment we are also financing the installation of the equipment which is 299. Not gonna lie I got hustled bad I will be paying off this equipment very quickly and going back to ADT. I definitely wish I would have read these reviews before purchase. Nothing but issues since installment. If the back camera doesn't work, the panel is disconnected. Reconnect panel, camera still doesn't work. They have you running back and forth check this check that for over an hour. Last time two hours because the doorbell rings outside not inside. Having people standing outside looking stupid and you sitting two feet from the darn door. And guess what still doesn't work after all the back and forth. Tired is underrated. Very bad experience with this company. When I had this system installed over two years ago I was told that the total price was $800. and therefore, I paid $600 down so, I would only have to pay for two more years so that I would own the system. I called the today to get status and I was told that I still owed $412.15 which is odd since I paid $600 already. They then transferred me to some one else who said actually, I had paid just over $200 but still owed another $200. This is NOT what I signed up for....... Make sure you see everything they are telling you when it comes to money.....they obviously did not explain all this initially (especially since I am now somehow paying $200 more then I was told). I installed a Vivent security system and it worked fine for a while. But as time goes by the sensors fail, the cameras go offline and the system becomes worthless. You can reboot it as many times as you like, but the same issues return. Customer service at that point doesn't want to know you. I received an email from them asking for the nature of my problem, I sent a detailed description and what did they do? Nothing! And I haven't heard from them since. I am going to rip it out and install ADT. Don't let their fancy sales team fool you, once installed they don't want to know you. read more

Should be zero stars. We bought into their system and were told that if we moved prior to the 2 years, we could cancel. Ha! The new owner of our home took over the account in August 2013. Vivint still withdrew from direct payment in Sept and Oct. I have spoken with numerous people there and have always been promised to be reimbursed for the 2 months within 10 days. 3 months later and I'm still waiting. If there were no stars it would be better. We evaluated Vivint for an alarm and I continued to ask to see a contract ahead of our installation appointment. The first contract we got had the wrong company name and logo on it (apparently before they did their name change) and different pricing than discussed. Tried to call the sales rep's phone number in his email signature which was a non-working phone number. The sales rep even said "I should have looked before I sent it to you". I then got the contract but it did not reflect the terms we'd discussed with the rep (1 month free, etc.) so I called Vivint on a Friday at noon but our rep was gone for the day and the installation was the next day. I told them to cancel the installation. One of their other sales reps called and while being very nice and telling be we'd have a contract ahead of the installation appointment - nothing arrived. When the installer arrived I told him to leave because his company couldn't provide a written contract for the job. The original sales rep called and said that the installer would have the contract, but again, we were not given time to review and digest what they wanted us to sign so quickly. AND THEY CHARGED US $99 for installation and we NEVER signed an agreement with them. We ended up opening a BBB case to have that refunded. All in all it was a horrible customer experience, they have no idea what they're doing and just want to close the deal. We ended up going with Frontpoint Security who had very friendly, informed sales people a shorter contract and more than a two day cancellation policy. Stay away from Vivint!!! read more

The system works, the video quality is good but this review is to give you a heads up of what can ALSO happen to you.. I have had the system installed at my place of business for less than a yr and unfortunately the doorbell was stolen by a homeless man. Vivint nor the Citizen One Loan will replace the device nor do any of them offer insurance or warranties against this. I have a police report and video proof of the incident but that of course means nothing to them. The whole system is roughly $2k to start (I have it under the citizen loan) and NOW I have to pay $300+ to get a new doorbell. If you get the system make sure you protect the doorbell from not being stolen!! read more

Held hostage by a contract I made the mistake of committing to. They configured my motion detector as a Smoke Detector which sent the fire department to our home 3 times when our pets set off the motion. Just found out that from day 1 our smoke detector was configured, you guessed it as a motion detector, so all along we thought we were safe at night if a fire broke out. It was like this for 10 years. Many issues with panel, new antennas, new cell device, they could not hear us over the speaker and each time said it was fixed. We live out of state and after HOURS of aguing on the phone with my husband, Vivint tried to get more money from an illegally imposed contract with a 92-year-old who needs care. Vivint asked for a letter from her doctor before they would cancel a contract she would never have agreed to have because she does not understand modern technology. Researched and shopped around before deciding on Vivint, now have buyers remorse. If all you care about is financing everything and don't really care about the value and customer service, then go for it. After my research I decided around $2000 was a fair price point for all of the equipment I would want to secure my home comparing Ring, Nest, ADT, SimplySafe, etc.. The salesman at Vivint was very slick and told me the Vivint value of the equipment in the package we put together was $1850. What he didn't mention is that the package starts at something like $1700 for the panel they install. So when I added another outdoor camera and an indoor camera ($399 and $199 respectively - I actually had to spend about 10 minutes just now tracking down that price and the only reason I could find it is through my Vivint customer login, good luck finding that price before you sign a 3 year contract... more prices for you: doorbell camera $249, door sensors $50, motion sensors $100, glass break sensor $100)... anyway I figured my total cost to be around $2300, not knowing about the base price of $1700. Failing to actually read the contract as I signed it on a tablet handed to me with a broken screen while the technician was waiting to install, I did not see the actual total was now over $4000. Again, my fault for not reading closely but fool me once... don't let them fool you. Finally seeing the bill for the first time a few days later, I decided to call customer service because surely there must have been some mistake. First I tried the salesman Sid who sold me the system in the first place and gave me his 'number' and told me to call or text with any questions. Nope, just a text response telling me to call the main 1-800 number. So fine, spent literally an entire afternoon getting passed around to various people who knew almost less about their equipment than I did, still could not get a simple answer like 'exactly how much does each component of my system cost so I can add that up and compare it to the total cost please'. This will probably get my review pulled simply for insensitivity but of the 8 people I talked to that day, only 3 of them would I judge to be proficient at speaking English. I really hope this is not the same employee pool who is going to contact me through my $1700 control box when I am bleeding out on the floor with an intruder in my house and the smoke detector going off. Not confidence inspiring. In any event, I am locked into a 3 year contract - because did I also mention that the contract cancellation window starts the day you talk to the salesman and in my case the window had closed by the time the technician actually got to my home. In closing I think the equipment is average to above average in quality, drastically overpriced, and I think their customer service and I can only assume the 'monitoring service' is farmed out to the gig economy like Uber Eats for home security monitoring. Their product is standard for the industry but the technicians I have dealt with since installation do not seem to have the technical proficiency to read a trouble report let alone diagnose a true problem. I have had an issue for over a month that would have been repaired if they would replace a component. I had vivint for about 10 years. I decided to give up my landline which was tied to my alarm. I called to see about a new keypad. I was told a new keypad that worked with wifi and cellular would cost me $400 and I would need to commit to 5 years of service. I would have thought they would take care of such a long time customer and just do the upgrade but no. They also kept me on the phone for 45 minutes trying to sell me deals that they had to go OK from the manager. which the manager did not OK. They were just keeping me on the phone trying to wear me down. I canceled my account, which I couldn't even do on line or on the phone with the rep. More wasted time. I have been happy with Vivint in the past, however they are now absolutely gouging their customers on equipment prices. Two systems installed two years apart and one equipment price was double the other (for a house half the size). The rude customer service rep is trying to tell me one system has more upgraded circuits or some nonsense...from my perspective they look and act the same exact way. I called vivint after being refered by a friend. I called serveral times because it seems as if each representive was giving me different pricing. I wanted be sure about what I was getting myself into. I scheduled the install, the installer name was Robin he was very professional and on time. He arrived at 8am after going over everything the pricing was off from what I was told. Robin call the office and got everything situated so we can move forward. The problem was he could not get his computer to reflex the pricing that was just told to us both. Robin called back all for a manger to tell us she could not honer the price that was just given to us both and her quote was the final one. Robin did his best to rectify the situation because we had both heard the pricing. In any case I ended up cancelling the install and will have to find another company. I am a business owner and was planing on referring all of my clients and family members to vivint but I will tell them not to bother. I felt bad Robin wasted 3 hours here all for nothing. read more

we called and canceled within our 3 day trial and at the end of the call they wanted us to complete a survey to see how they did we didn't want to do a survey so hung up. we used the app to contact them multiple times to get someone to pick up our equipment and they set a date and no showed. so we called back and they said we never completed the cancellation process. I asked for the phone records and they told myself 2 times they would send the call then my wife 1 time. after not receiving the phone call I called again and they told me they are refusing to release the phone call to me and the only way they will is if they get Subpoenaed. Absolutely awful. I have had THIRTEEN conversations with them after our equipment was incorrectly installed and we had a break in which was undetected. After three months, they took the equipment but continued to charge me despite the cancellation being "completed on their end," once that stopped, they didn't tell the bank that the loan was financed through... 6 months later and they still owe me hundreds of dollars. I just called called again, and they said these conversations are not noted on account. HOW?! System works good as far as getting emergency service response (when monitoring subscription is in place). However, if you use internal door locks or garage controller and have guest in your house with limited access - they can lock/unlock or open the garage just by walking to the alarm panel and clicking the button - not good. This is a major flaw on this system. For instance, my wife and I do Airbnb at the house. Thru the Vivint app we can create limited access guess/users to arm or disarm the system, it is easy to do even thru the app on our phones. However, when the panel is in disarm mode it shows the option to unlock internal door locks and to open the garage controller without any restrictions. So, if you use internal door locks and/or the garage controller to prevent unauthorized access to certain rooms within your house.... and believe that a limited guess with no access can not open those locks or garage door....think again!! They can open them by simply walking to the panel when is in disarm mode and "touch" the unlock button for the door lock or garage controller. This makes the system a waste of money, in my case. Now, i have to unpair door locks and garage opener from the Vivint panel (hint - waste of money) and link the door locks and garage opener to my Smart things controller were I can control 100% who can unlock a door lock, and who can have access to open my garage door. Never sign a contract with vivint! You aren't signing up for services, you're signing up to give them money for 60 months regardless of what happens from sign up to cancellation. If you can actually cancel at all. Read reviews of actual customers who have been scammed by this company. Imagine I knock on your door and offer to mow your grass for 60 months at $50 per month and you agree. 3 years into our agreement, you get transferred to an apartment in NYC. Then I come after you for $1,200 for what you would have paid me for the remaining 2 years. Sound fair? That's exactly what vivint does. They aren't a security system company, they are a contract collector. They don't care about security at all. All they want to do is lock as many people into long contracts as they can. PLEASE BE AWARE**** Vivint sales team will tell you that you will not have a service contact. We were informed once our equipment was paid off that we would be on a month to month payment and could cancel. Equipment is paid off and ready to cancel and we are now told we are stuck until 2024 unless we want to pay a huge service bill. Very disappointed in how little the company cares about how their sales representatives are giving their customers misleading and false information. Can I give a zero? Had the system 1 1/2 years. Problems started the first week. Thermostats have been replaced 4 times. Cameras have gone offline a couple of times, and having to get a tech out this week. Equipment is cheap and shoddy. Online/call-in support is 100% worthless -- people reading from screens. The home techs are actually pretty good. Oh -- one of the techs told me they not only recycle refurbished equipment (which they pass as new), they are told to use those first. We have the Vivint solar panels. Agree with the other commenters, good knowledgeable sales people convinced us to buy- but we couldn't have known how bad the customer service would be. We've had many issues through the years, and everytime the customer service has been terrible- impossible to get them on the phone, they don't tell you when they are coming to fix stuff and show up expecting you to drop everything (ummm- we work- we need to know when you're coming!!!). Latest issue is we need our solar panels removed & put back while we install a new roof. We were PROMISED in our sales pitch that this would be a very simple, easy process and we've been waiting 3 months to get it done. Roofers aren't going to wait for us while we wait on Vivint, so we may miss our opportunity altogether and it will be their fault. We have called, told we would get a call back in 3 days, nothing so we call back, round & round. FINALLY we got escalated, and got a "direct" number...which I've been sitting for 45minutes waiting to be picked up (call wait time said "under 1 minute") when I first called...45min later and I'm convinced they've sent me to a fake number. To all who may be considering Vivint - DON'T. Stay far FAR away from them. They will sweet talk you into a contract that cannot be broken without paying thousands upon thousands of dollars to them. In my case, I pay $79 a month for equipment and services which do not work and in order to leave Vivint, I have to pay $1300. I have told them on multiple occasions they can have their faulty equipment back and that I want nothing further to do with their company. As stated before, I have had nothing but problems with Vivint since the beginning. I've experienced problems with the panel connecting to the monitoring centers, inability to access cameras over the Vivint app, not being able to view my cameras (doorbell and inside) whether it be web or phone app, extreme lag of the cameras while trying to connect to them any other time, not being able to speak through my cameras to various people (delivery drivers, family, students selling things, etc) and not being able to view either camera on any web computer. I get the error: "Oops! We experienced an error connecting to your camera. (731: Socket reported a security error: Error #2048)". Vivint's excuse after troubleshooting the equipment: Trenn B (10/18/2018, 9:42:28 AM): We're looking into the issue. That's not a solution and the only thing I get from Vivint is that they'll have to send another technician out to my residence. Even though it's a problem with THEIR equipment, you have to pay a ridiculous service fee every time to get their equipment working. They've tried to make the excuse that it's my wi-fi and not having the correct bandwidth. I've contacted Grande who is my wi-fi provider and they have done tests showing that there is nothing wrong with my signal or bandwidth strength. Furthermore, I'm unsure as to what the error was, but they were unable to take my monthly payment out due to an error on my card. My bank had more than enough money and when they ran it after I contacted them (wasting my time), it went right through. I wasn't able to make the payment over the internet due to: "Validation Failed: Notice: Temporarily unable to process payments. Payment methods can still be updated. Invalid Request". I am at work 85% of the time that I had these issues so therefore had to take time off from work in order to allow Vivint access or spend time waiting for representatives either on chat or phone to troubleshoot the problem. So now, thanks to Vivint - I am now behind on my daily tasks. For those that say that I can do it when I get out of work, I do not have the time which I won't go into explaining on a public forum. I hope this shows people how deceptive and greedy Vivint really is. ADT and Ring provide services for half the cost (I've looked into it) without a contract. I am so incredibly dissatisfied with this system and their "customer service". I feel like I was bamboozled into this terrible system. We have 4 cameras and 2 of them are constantly having issues. Sometimes the alerts don't tell us when someone is on our property and most of the time, when I try to watch the cameras live, they freeze and are blurry. The customer service is a joke. Vivint is a rip off then they want you to troubleshoot everything and once you've waisted all your time, then they will send a technician. If you ask them to send one without jumping through their hoops, they make you pay $50.00. Then I made an appointment, they had a four hour window and the technician didn't bother showing up. It's the worst service I have ever had. I would cancel the 5 YEAR contract today if we still didn't have to pay like $5,000 more dollars for the equipment. This company doesn't even deserve a star. DO NOT TRUST this company! We have had this home security for over 5 years. One day a young kid showed up at our door, without notice to "update" our security system. FAILED to mention it would cost us money, FAILED to mentioned he was renewing our contract with the company. Since that day our "upgraded system" never worked again. we've spent hours doing their job trouble shooting their non working equipment. Not to mention the hours we've wasted with strangers in our house trying to fix the problems. The Techs don't seem to know what they are doing other then wasting the costumers time and money. We've tried to cancel them, they wanted to charge us over $2000 to break the contract yet they are the ones breaking the contract with their shity equipment. Our door bell had not worked for years, we can't even set our system in fear of it going off in the middle of the night cause of faulty sensors. Done waking up to a screaming alarm at 3am cause a sensor is bad, this happened MULTIPLE times!! Now I'm getting charged from my City cause apparently you have to have a permit for a security system in your own home, the company FAILED to inform us of this.
