What an amazing place! We loved it. We came here for a weekend brunch. The place itself is not very appealing inside. It would be one of the best places in Tampa if they would have a better interior. The place itself is pretty rundown and has some questionable design choices. Service was absolutely amazing, friendly and attentive. We started with bread and some nice tapas: patatas bravas, tomato crostini and a salad. Everything was amazing. And we finished with a paella. We absolutely loved it. All food was absolutely amazing. Don't pass this place up. We stumbled upon it when our original destination was crowded and too noisy for our tastes. So glad we found it! It is a very unassuming little spot but when you get inside, it is full of surprises. They have patio seating and you can tell it was a gas station in a former life but the inside has been transformed beautifully. We were seated in an intimate little room with tasteful decor and a very welcoming feel. The server was helpful and recommended some dishes. My husband had a steak which he said was the best! My husband and I came here last night for his birthday. The food was really really good. The seafood was fresh, the paella was authentic. The tapas were all soo good, with the bacon wrapped dates being our favorite. We came with a couple of friends and we got a bunch of stuff to share. It's our favorite way of doing dinner. Our waiter, Jason, had great recommendations. He was perfectly attentive. I could see him checking on us often but from afar so as not to interrupt our food. He came to see if there was anything we needed about 5 minutes after each course. The other staff were attentive too. Our water cups were never empty. We met the owner and heard a bit about his love for food and his restaurant and it was really great. The location is so unique and cute. There is a real pride from the owner and from the staff. I wanted zarzuela and a quick Google search took me to Vizcaya. It was completely different to the zarzuela I had in another state/city so l couldn't tell which is the more genuine as I've only had it twice. The blackberry margarita was not bad. The fish special was very, very good. The wine recommendation was also very, very good. The dining area is compact. The service was great, friendly and welcoming. I would definitely go back. We visited here last night for a birthday dinner. We have eaten at Vizcaya previously when it on on Dale Mabry, but this meal was lackluster compared to our expectations based on prior visits. We had the bacalao croquettas, tabla de quesos and the goat cheese salad. The goat cheese salad was good, but basic. Nothing to really write home about. The bacalao croquettas were OK. We each only ate 1 and shared the rest with the table. The cheese plate was the most disappointing. As a person who loves a good cheese plate....I had high expectations. The cheeses seemed like they came from.Costco...the almonds were not Marcona almonds..and the grapes were over-ripe. The quince paste was the best part. There were also no crackers or anything with the cheese...which was odd. Service was slow and disorganized. Many of the dishes at our table never came out and we had to ask for them (including our cheese). We probably won't visit again. It's a cute place, but the food did not meet my expectations for the price. read more

Small and quaint location. It is in an old corner gas station. Inside is comfy and cozy. Food was absolutely delicious. We ordered several appetizers for the entire table and made them our meal. Stuffed dates, empanadas, croquettas, shrimp, goat cheese salad and paella. We were stuffed and had to bring home the leftovers. For a table of 4 I was disappointed in my 3 guests as they tagged out a little early. Service was great. Oh, you have to order sangria as well. SERVICE: really great. Servers were always on top of things. I went in there looking kind of raggedy and was still treated great. They didn't treat me any different, so took care of them after the bill. FOOD: The stuffed dates wrapped in bacon were amazing! Was going to try something I was familiar with, but decide to try that and I'm glad I did. We had the oxtails and they were also delicious. The risotto was pretty good, not the best, but oxtails more. Than made up for it. Seafood paella was really good. They don't beat Columbia's, but it was still very tasty. The sea food was not over cooked and the texture was really nice. Sangria was very good. Not too sweet and not too dry and the used really fruit. Loved it. PRICE: Very reasonable. Bill was between $120-$130 for everything before tip. Downside: men's bathroom is on the outside of the building. So if it's raining or cold, might want to use ladies. This place is a hidden gem amongst a bunch of bars in the SoHo area just north of Hydel park. Our amazing server, Julie took great care of us and we decided to tackle the appetizer menu. We were seated promptly at a high top table for two inside the restaurant and truly enjoyed all of the cute decor. Great music and amazing food left us completely satisfied. This was my second time at Vizcaya SoHo and it will not be the last! My husband and I went for Valentine's Day and they did have a special menu, but all of our favorite things were still available. It is such a cute little mom and pop spot with service that makes you feel like you're family. The waitresses were attentive our entire meal, we never needed for anything. We started our meal off with 2 sangrias, they have red, white, and bubbly as options. We opted for the red and bubbly and both were very balanced, versus being on the sweeter side. For starters, they bring fresh bread with butter for the table and it is so good!!! Fluffy on the inside with crispy crust. I'm not sure if it is, but it tastes like they make it fresh! We also got the dates as a starter and they are perfect for anyone who likes a mix of sweet and salty. Because it was a little chilly outside, I also decided to try the SheCrab bisque. It was full of flavor and perfect for dipping the bread in! For entree, we split the seafood paella. It is a must try for seafood lovers and it is a really good portion!! I personally like it better than the seafood paella at Bulla. Finally, we ended our meal with the cheesecake. I got it the first time I came here and it's so good I had to get it again!!! The combination of fresh cream along with the fruit sauce makes it absolutely delicious. I want to try another dessert but I can't see myself coming back end not ordering that cheesecake! Admittedly, I completely underestimated Vizcaya...it's a restaurant in an old converted gas station in the heart of SOHO so how good can it??? Simply put, the food @ Vizcaya is delicious!!! It's absolutely the best Spanish tapas in Tampa Bay and it rivals well known Spanish restaurants in other parts of the US like Barcelona. I actually give the nod to Vizcaya because in many ways its more delicious and locally owned. We tried an array of dishes including one of the salad, gambas, paella, oxtail, etc. Literally, everything was absolutely fantastic. The paella is the best Tampa. They also have a great wine list. The service was great and the owner seems like a really nice guy. The interior was nicely designed and very comfortable. They could also accommodate larger parties despite how small the restaurant appears from the outside. I had a lot of assumptions that were completely off base and almost caused me to miss out on one of best Tampa's hidden gems. Definitely check it out asap!!! read more

OMG! We stopped at this restaurant for a late dinner and managed to get a table even though it was super crowded and had no reservations!!! The place lacks a bar area so you either wait at the door or in the parking lot. I was happily surprised to find Albarino, (my favorite white wine from Galicia). So far, the experience had been fantastic and we were looking forward to finally have a respectable Spanish, (from Spain) cuisine in Tampa! Among the appetizers, I saw what is called Pulpo a la Feria but here is called Pulpo a la Gallega, (from Galicia). Another favorite!!! So far so good!!! We ordered this dish and for main, Paella de Marisco. The chilled wine and the warm bread were doing their magic! We were so looking forward to our meal.. When our appetizer was placed on the table, our excitement dropped!!! A few pieces of octopus over thinly slices of potatoes, drowning in some kind of sauce? This dish is the simplest, most delectable way we enjoy octopus and what we had in front of us was not it! Extremely disappointed!! Due to the close proximity between tables, we could not help but see that the table next to us had ordered the same main dish we had ordered, Paella de Marisco. After seeing this dish delivered to their tables we cancelled our order and settled the bill. Maybe the dish tastes delicious but not what we saw said otherwise; it lacked presentation, size, it was like yellow rice topped off with a few pieces of seafood. Blech!!! read more

We had a nice meal at this former gas station on Howard. I've never been to the original Vizcaya because Carrollwood is just too far. So when they opened up Vizcaya Soho, I decided that it would make a perfect date night with my husband. We shared a pitcher of sangria. It was fruity but good, and I can report no hangover the next morning (which is certainly not what happens after having a La Teresita sangria). We started with the iberico plate and the cheese plate. Everything on them was excellent, especially the iberico de balota jamon. Then we each had a house salad (virtuous living but pretty soggy hearts of palms), followed by the jamon croquetas, gambas ajillo, the langostinos, and the pulpo. I liked the octopus the best of the dishes. Plenty of good quality paprika, and the potatoes soaked up the juices and spices and were as tasty as the fish. The croquetas were completely forgettable, but they were nicely fried. The shrimp dishes were both excellent, although the dipping sauce they sent out was unnecessary and also a bit too acidic. We left stuffed, too full to try the Basque cheesecake (although it looked awesome). Service was slowish, but the kitchen looked small to handle even this small restaurant. read more

Tried Vizcaya last night for the first time. Cute place right in the heart of SoHo, it's a little converted gas station. Our server Julie was a doll and she was very attentive. I was so excited try the stuffed dates, but was disappointed when I learned they weren't gluten free. Then I learned that a few other dishes with descriptions that would lead me to believe they were gluten free were not gluten free. It would be great if they updated their menu to indicate which items are gluten free as so many other places do. But Julie was kind and helpful in letting me know which dishes were ok for me to eat and even checked with the kitchen to make sure. But everything I had was delicious and so fresh. The sangria is amazing but holy moly it kicked our butts!!! read more

We had a great meal at this very unassuming restaurant. We shared several small, tapas style dishes, and one larger dish. We started off with the cod croquettes, the gildas (listed on their menu as 'matrimonio') and the escargot. The only tapa that fell short for me was the escargot, it was missing saltiness which I thought would come through with the ham and chorizo but ultimately didn't. We also shared the sweetbreads and oxtail. By far these were the two best dishes but I must say I was most impressed with the flavor and texture profile of the sweetbreads. The sweetbreads seemed to have been grilled first then sautéed with mushrooms and peppers. There was so much umami and the sweetbreads were cooked perfectly. The oxtail was also great, falling of the bone meat, and I couldn't stop eating the risotto. We tried the torrija (Spanish version of French toast) for dessert since we had it elsewhere and loved it, and I must say this was not like what I had before. The pieces of bread were not caramelized enough and they were drenched in the sweet cream that accompanied them. Their wine list is limited but they have a couple of known and some not so well known Spanish whites like Albariño and Txakoli. They charge $25 for corkage. Service is very attentive. Make sure to make a reservation if you want to sit inside since they have a limited number of tables, otherwise they have several tables outside. read more

INCREDIBLE SPANISH FOOD! Ate here in Sept and earlier this month (Nov 2024). This business NEEDS patronage! It was once located in Carrolwood, & unfortunately the owner does not advertise (or advertise enough). If you love DELICIOUS food prepared by a creative chef & served in a warm atmosphere (while attended to by a friendly server), YOU MUST EAT HERE. Whether you sit inside this cozy restaurant or outside in the shine or hanging lights (see pic), you can't go wrong. It's the PERFECT place to celebrate a birthday, anniversary, retirement, or first date! The food is some of the BEST that I have eaten in the Greater Tampa Bay area (& I am choosy about the establishments that get my hard-earned money). Everything we nine shared at this restaurant was BEYOND DELICIOUS. They offer the best PIAYA I've tasted outside of Spain (See pic.)! Entrees run around $37. Their many tapas are phenomenal; I highly recommend the stuffed dates & the fresh tomatoes atop crunchy toast. (See pics of both.) But it is highly doubtful you will go wrong w/ any choice; I have sampled eight or more. They run approx $15 & up. The soups and salads (approx $12 each) are PHENOMENAL. Enjoyable under the radar (for now) Spanish delight. Review is based on tapas only which we're all quite tasty and typical to most Spanish experiences here in the States. Dates are a must get. Lowkey place with great food & great service! Would recommend coming here to try the Spanish cuisine. We order a homemade red sangria which was phenomenal. The size of the sangria was more than enough for me but the flavor is impeccable -- it's sweet & refreshing. We also ordered a seafood paella to split among the two of us which packed a punch of flavor in each bite. The seafood was juicy and the paella rice was flavored to perfection. They have parking available and then also street parking, great customer service, outdoor seating available and fast service but I was disappointed with the paella and menu options. The portion size of the paella was so small and it just wasn't the vizcaya paella that I remember from years ago when they were in Carollwood. The flavor, veggies on it and texture - not the same. They should also include more vegetarian options on their menu. I didn't have much to choose from. read more
