VM Drainage does quality work and takes their warranty seriously. VM Drainage helped control the water flow from an adjacent hill which worked wonderfully in 2018, the wettest year on record in NOVA. They installed two French drains and put underground pipes in from my downspouts. The results speak for themselves- no flooded basement or mushy yard! About 6 months after the install, one of the gutter / downspout underground pipes started clogging and I asked VM Drainage to come out and troubleshoot. Turns out there was an issue with the pipe and they fixed the problem without charge. They left the worksite clean and the communication with the foreman, Jose, went well. Our home is a 60-year-old ranch that had been developing water infiltration issues in the basement over the past couple years. The water issues included: damp basement walls; efflorescence residue on basement walls; occasional water seepage along the basement wall/floor interface; foundation drain water backup during heavy rains; minor basement wall cracks, and soil subsidence in areas around the house perimeter.  We decided to identify a contractor that could best address these issues before they became problems.  Knowing that the project would be quite extensive we contacted a number of water proofing contractors to access the existing conditions, make recommendations, and provide proposals.  All of the contractors contacted agreed that preventative measures needed to be taken but provided different approaches in their proposals on how to remedy the water infiltration issue and at varying costs. After careful review of all of the estimates we found that VM Drainage & Erosion Solutions' proposal, completed by Mr. Jose Montalvo was the best at addressing and fixing the underlying problem at the source on the outside of the house, the most cost effective, and provided the most value added.  Jose's proposal was well written and by far the most detailed and comprehensive when compared to all of the other submissions. Broken down into stand-alone work elements with associated costs, Jose's proposal was also broad in scope covering the electrical and HVAC sub-tasks associated with the project as well as landscaping and hardscaping options not covered or addressed in other proposals. VM Drainage & Erosion Solutions started the project on schedule with site prep, equipment and materials staging.  The construction crew would arrive on time, conduct themselves in a professional manner, were well organized, and respectful of the neighborhood.  The site (yard) was kept clean, well-organized, and materials, refuse, and equipment would be delivered/removed in a timely fashion.  Daily crew size would vary depending on the task at hand.  Large crews during major site work to minimize unavoidable disruptions during large excavation work and smaller crews during finish work. Excellent balance of crew size and requisite site work. It was obvious that this team, under Jose's leadership has worked together many years based on the well-choreographed and seamless manner with which they worked. I was impressed at how focused the team was on delivering a quality product. In addition to ensuring that all construction activities were conducted in accordance with standard industry practice, minor details would receive as much attention as the major construction activities. The entire team obviously takes pride in their craft and are focused on providing superior quality service. It should be noted that during the excavation of the perimeter of the house breeches in the existing water proofing were clearly visible when the exterior walls were exposed and the foundation drain was found to be 100 percent blocked.  These conditions were entirely consistent with Jose's assessment made during his initial survey and a testament to his knowledge and understanding of foundation and water management issues. Having experience in overseeing and managing numerous construction projects and working with large and small construction contractors throughout the course of my career I have found VM Drainage & Erosion Solutions to be a truly exceptional contractor. Being a family-owned business, I found them to be extremely responsive and agile while also having the wherewithal and capacity to bring the requisite resources to manage and execute a large project.  I cannot express how pleased we are with the quality and breadth of their work and plan on using their services to install a new concrete/flagstone driveway.  It was truly a delight to have had the opportunity to work with Jose and his team and look forward to working with him again this spring. read more

I love this company! I got their free estimate offer. They came on time, and conducted a drainage and landscape evaluation in my property. VM drainage re-graded our yard and put in a stone and gravel path. The yard used to flood with normal rain. Now, it doesn't even flood with light rain. The grass seed they put in seems to be taking very well. The work they do is quality. If you use them, though, I would focus strongly on communication about the materials used. The flagstones they put in were not as wide as promised in the contract, but they were high quality and well installed. (Embedded in the dirt below the stones in the walk). I would have knocked off a star for the discrepancy in the width of the stones, but they were reasonable and discounted the work because of the smaller width of the stones. read more

I had a massive retaining wall(85ft long X 4ft high stone wall) that failed during a rainstorm in August. I had a little trouble getting a response because VM Drainage was very busy at the time, but eventually, they came and surveyed my property. They came up with a great solution to remove the fallen wall and put in a better one with effective drainage for my property. The wall they put in is made of 6" X 6"s with deadman posts every 10ft, a 6" drain pipe, 2 french drains, lots of gravel, and separate drain lines for my gutter downspouts. It is an excellent design and solution. They also raised ground levels around my house by adding soil where erosion had occurred. And they planted grass in all the areas that needed patching because of erosion and the wall coming down. The quality of their work is outstanding in everything they do. read more

I hired VM Drainage & Erosion Solution to take care of my water problem in my basement. I had water coming in during heavy rainfalls. VM Drainage brought a large number of workers for the 2 days it took to do the job. The contract was for 3 days, so I was happy to have it done in 2. The workers dug down 5 feet to the bottom of the basement wall and did the proper application of materials to seal the basement. They put the dirt back in place, and added back the stones which they had set aside when starting the job. The work is warranted for 10 years. In addition, they took out a jacuzzi tub and took it to the dump and put cement in that area to match up with the rest of my patio. They cleaned up after the project. Completely unprofessional. Had an appointment scheduled for a bid earlier this week that had been on the books for weeks. There was apparently some "mix-up" with the time so I had to reschedule. They then rebooked us for tonight at 5 p.m. I rearranged my schedule to make sure I could accommodate this second appointment and they never showed. Only upon my calling to notify them did they become aware that their contractor missed the appointment. Natalie, the manager, provided excuse after excuse. Absolutely no concern for her clients and really did not seem to be bothered by the fact that they inconvenienced us twice. Apparently business is good enough to blow off potential clients--good luck with that in the future... I'll be sure to let others know about this extremely unprofessional and discourteous conduct. read more

We hired VM Drainage to solve a couple of problems related to water redirection from the roof. A small retaining wall was needed on one side of the house with build up of dirt and decoration with river rock. Also, we redirected downspouts through pipes VM buried underground for several feet. VM did this work with a crew of 5 in short order and even replanted grass seed. Nothing left for us to do except water the new grass. Everyone was great, some even carried bags of mulch to help with a flower bed that got disturbed. Not a single plant was lost. It's only been a bit over a month since the work was performed, but so far we've had no issues. Jose and crew were on time and they exceeded our expectations regarding how quickly they could perform the work we needed done. We had cracks in our foundation on one side of the house that they dug fully out, including digging out a window well, water proofed/fixed cracks, put everything back, and regraded the yard on both sides of our homes that have window wells.
