I *really* needed a haircut after this quarantine business and I'm so glad my friend suggested VN salon! I didn't realize this place was right next to Pho Saigon, which means I've been neglecting a great hair salon spot for years. Right now they only take appointments so make sure to call ahead. I was very lucky and got a same day appointment. There were only two customers at a time while I was there and everyone wore masks the whole time so I didn't feel like I was about to catch covid. I didn't catch the name of the lady who cut my hair, but she was very nice and cut my hair exactly how I wanted it. I asked for a simple cut, just a few inches of dead ends off and layering because I've been living with a bird's nest. I loved the layers, they looked very clean. My hair stylist also really took her time despite how simple of a cut it was, and then blew dry and straightened my hair. All of this came out to only $28!! What are these crazy prices? Decided I wanted a cut and last minute decided to go with VN due to the great reviews. Called and was able to get an appointment within 1 hour with tweety. When I walked in definitely noted quite a few Vietnamese clientele, so wondered if they would be as experienced with thin and fine blonde hair like mine. I can say, VN did not disappoint. Not only did tweety understand what cut style would be best to prevent my hair from looking thin and flat, but she gave me some great tips for volumizing and hair growth as well. To top it off, it was only $30 for wash, cut and style! I will definitely be coming back for future hair cuts. So in light of my usual stylist moving out to Katy, I was looking for a budget friendly way to maintain my cut a little closer to home. Enter VN Salon, and Kim! I scheduled an appointment expecting just to have a little trim done, but I left with a gorgeous new cut. All sanitary precautions were being followed to the T, I felt completely comfortable during my visit. After a terrible haircut from Sports Clips on West Holcombe, I was desperately in need of a new place to get a hair cut. My girlfriend went here and had Karina cut her hair and she suggested I go pay her a visit. I'm glad I did because I had the best haircut I've had since going off to college (almost 10 years). She's very fast and listens to what you want. The conversation is nice too. The pricing is phenomenal and I could get two hair cuts a month for the same price I got one mediocre haircut from other places. The salon is clean and the wait is never long. I typically avoid getting haircuts. I would much rather do it myself. Hair salons overcharge and sometimes end up not giving you what you wanted. This time I chose to not cut my hair on my own and looked for a couple of places on yelp. I called a place and the call didn't even go through. I called VN Beauty Salon and they answered. I had two questions for them. What could I expect for a layered hair cut for long hair and did they accept credit cards. I was given an estimate and the answer was yes to CC. I appreciated the transparency in the phone call and knew what to expect price-wise. One of my biggest pet peeves is expecting to pay a certain amount for a hair service then being disappointed by the awful outcome and having to pay the price. In my case, VN Beauty Salon was just what I was looking. They charged me an amount I knew was adequate AND my experience with the salon was phenomenal. Best Hair Cut at the Best Price! I went here on a whim based on the yelp reviews and not wanting to spend $100 for a simple haircut. Kahn did an amazing job! She cut off at least 7-8 inches and she added some really pretty layers as well. My hair looks amazing and I got so many compliments at work the next day! This place is my new go-to for haircuts. I have really long hair and most salons will charge you an extra fee for hair past the shoulders, even if it's just a basic cut. Not here. Not only are they very affordable ($35 for a women's cut) but walk ins are welcome making it easy to stop by whenever is convenient for you. Sure, the salon isn't the fanciest but the services are just as good, if not better, than what you would find at a fancy salon. Parking - sometimes the lot out front can get full but there is street parking close by making it not a problem. Location - added perk of having Les Givrals and Pho Saigon right next door for an after haircut snack. Overall, I highly recommend and will definitely return for my next haircut. read more

Since moving to Houston, I've been looking for an affordable haircut for asian males. I've been going to Bich Nga, but due to Covid-19, Bich Nga was closed for an extended period (since reopened) and I was due for a haircut after 3 months. I gave VN a try as they were close by and I have to say, VN seems better of the 2. Prices are about the same, Bich Nga was $12 with wash, while VN is $15 and doesn't include wash (as far as I know?). What I appreciate about VN compared to Bich Nga is the ladies at Bich Nga always seem distracted (either answering phone calls or on their cell phones a lot) while cutting hair. Also, after your haircut, you can go next door to Siu Lap City or Les Grivals across the street for banh mi! read more

They are operating well when it comes to COVID - wearing masks, hand sanitizer available, appointment only. However, the haircut wasn't great. I typically don't care because my hair is easy, but all I asked for was long layers and angled in the front. The way she did layers didn't seem like the same method I've ever had my hair layered with before... and it felt like there was a lot of chopping. I didn't really notice until I got home but the layers are SO choppy, and I think it is only terribly choppy on one side?? Like a whole distinct shorter layer on my one side, not blended into the rest.. I'm trying to grow my hair back out so I'm not willing to go somewhere else to get it fixed and lose more length right now, leaving me rocking that angsty teen choppy emo look (on HALF my head!) for the next few months I guess. I take a lot of good care of my hair so it's pretty healthy, and it was stressful to have it blow dried and straightened (while still not totally dry! I don't why this salon has so many positive reviews. Sure Kim is a sweet lady. But she is only a mediocre at cutting hair. I showed her a picture of what I wanted my cut to be. She told me it wasn't possible. Maybe it wasn't possible for her within her skillset. It's been a week since I cut my hair. Still waiting for the ugly to grow out. Still no such luck. It is still WAY too short. I look like a boy. Since a mask is required, I was not able to see the full ugliness while I was at the shop. The price was supposed to be between $12-15, but in the END, she said she had to double her charge to $30 because my hair was think. WTH! Third time getting my haircut here and each time it's been a great cut and I kept returning because it was affordable. Deducted 1 star because I'm disappointed that pricing has gone up each time. I expected some increase during Covid but this third time was a big jump. Last year during Covid it was around 30-35. This time the base price was 50 for all the same things and same cut I've had done in the past. Not sure on the breakdown or where the increase came from but unfortunately I don't find that price affordable for a simple woman's haircut. read more

I came to Yelp to check out reviews and this place had the very best reviews, not to mention appeared MUCH cheaper than most places. I made an appointment over the phone on a Thursday for a Saturday 10am with Kim. She was a little late to open up the salon but it was because the Rodeo is in town and it was only 10-15 minutes so I didn't have any problem with it. I got a shampoo, cut, and blow dry all for $27, and she did AMAZING. I had 7+ inches cut off and she was very meticulous in making sure everything was even, which is huge for me. BONUS: it took less than 45 minutes for the entire appointment, and she didn't skimp out on anything. Prices are actually very reasonable and competitive. I don't know where the 'Ultra High-End' comes from. It should be '$$' max instead. Hair & Beauty services are very competitive in any big city. VN Beauty Salon is a small business and run by local folks making decent livings. Sometimes, balancing between conflicting schedules of customers and providing quality services causes perception of poor services does not mean that they are actually bad. I've always call ahead and never been made to wait longer than 10 mins. Walk-Ins can have unexpected waits esp during the weekends but I've seen people not having to wait more than the duration of a hair cut. This place is a gem, I've seen it transform from the previous owner environment to one that is clean, modern and pleasant environment. Most of the staff are the from the previous name of "Cam Phi", they still work here and continue to provide excellent services that is highly valuable and competitively priced. I highly recommend them because I would bring my family here to have their hair, nails or faces done. Give them a shot and chances are you'd be convinced that they have professional skills and excellent services that rival any expensive salon out there. read more
