On a trip back from Pittsburgh, we decided to take a detour for lunch. After parking, we passed Viola and stopped back in after eating. Very glad we did. I absolutely love Jasmine flavored teas and frequently purchase teas from Teavana as well as another location in D.C. I was very pleasantly surprised at the extensive selection and friendly atmosphere at Viola. Ended up buying a Jasmine tea blend, and was even more suprised at the reasonable price that included a tin for the tea. For the amount of tea that I received, I expected to pay twice as much without the tin. So great place to go and will be even better when can order online!! read more

Cute little shop. They always have teas out and pleasant staff. I always get exotic fruits green tea and usually I'll try some other white or green tea. They do sell tea by the cup so you can try before you buy or take a tea to go. They have a selection of cups, saucers, tea strainers, to go cups, and honey. I absolutely love this tea store. They have a wonderful variety and always make me feel welcome. I tell people about this tea store ALL the time. When we have people visit I take them downtown and we always make this one of our stops. I have introduced many co-workers to this store as well. I just cannot get enough. Believe me I have many tins of tea and always find a new one when going in for refills. One of my decisions everyday is what type of tea day is it for me today. Today as a type this it is a beautiful morning, sun is out birds singing, nice little breeze, I think it a Tea on the beach day. This is probably one of my favorite places in Frederick. The toasted almond tea is the best, very fragrant and a fantastic nutty flavor. There are so many cute tea accessories available--anything you can imagine being useful for tea brewing! I love this shop. I am drinking the Orchid Berry Green Sencha right now and it is wonderful. I just popped in to see what they had, not expecting to buy anything, but this was the sample tea brewed that day and I fell in love with it. I have only really ever gone to Teavana for any of my tea needs but this place really blows them out of the water. They allow you to personally explore each of their teas and thanks to their ingenious method of magnetic tins stuck to the walls, it is simple and fun to pick the best tea for you. Their sales staff is both knowledgeable and helpful without being pushy at all. Not only do they provide quality tea and an open atmosphere but their stock of tea-related goods, rock sugar, honey, and equipment is remarkable. I saw stuff there that I have never seen in any store that sells tea. There is a 2 oz minimum for all teas and the prices vary but each tea comes with it's own tin and is definitely worth the money. I would recommend visiting Voila to anyone looking for tea, information, or just for a fun adventure. They will surely receive my business next time. read more

I have shopped around and the prices at Voila are good...I've even checked prices on line and found that, across the board, Voila's prices for teas and the related products they carry are comparable to those elsewhere and the dollar off you get when you bring your tin back for a refill is an added bonus. Helpful service & olfactory overload. Lots of great tea trinkets to oooh and ahhh at along with a tea tasting table. What's great is that not only do you get to see the tea, they encourage you to open up the sampler containers to sniff and inspect the ingredients. I found this to be the highlight of Voila. I am so happy to have Voila in downtown Frederick instead of another Teavana. The service here is always wonderful and extremely helpful. If you have never had loose leaf tea before or you are overwhelmed by all of the varieties, they will help you to find something you will love! Also, don't forget to try the iced and hot tea samples at the front of the store or to take a whiff of some of the tea varieties on the magnet board. You can purchase looseleaf tea to make at home (they sell teapots, tea bags, and infusers) or you can purchase a cup of hot or iced tea to go. I would love to see this place expand to a larger location downtown (maybe add some comfy couches where you can sip your tea!), but I fear that may make the prices even higher. If you are tea lover or want to try something new, I definitely recommend stopping at Voila and taking a whiff and a taste of their many delicious teas. read more

Excellent, creative use of space. Huge selection of teas, with the option to create personalized blends. Fair prices, especially given the location. The ability to get a cup of tea you wish to taste without being stuck with a tin that you may not like and will only end up going stale (a tea travesty). The young woman who assisted us, Megan, was knowledgeable and helpful without being pushy or hovering. I got a cup of hot tea, Warm Apple Pie with a caramel sugar rock, to go, as well as a 2oz tin of Chai Pu, along with a to go cup of Marrakesh mint tea for my person....all for about $11. I am a HUGE tea lover, which is why I love Voila for all their tea selections and wonderful samples, but whats made me not recommend this store is the staff, unfortunately. There is a red-headed staff member who so rudely RAN up to me- bumped into my friend in the process just to tell me to put my phone away. I was trying to share a picture of the samples I wanted to buy but after hearing how condescending she spoke to me I was sure I wasn't going to be purchasing anything. The way things are run here just seem so disorganized and there is horrible communication between the staff. During my visit this same staff member seemed totally unable to handle the traffic and demands of customers. I even overheard other customers complaining about how chaotic the environment seemed. I think this business could be much better with a more humble and down to earth staff that respects the customer. Also, perhaps a bigger sign that says "no pictures allowed" would be better instead of trying to act like a smartass to customers. read more

I came into the shop and was looking to find a tea that was similar to a tea that I purchased at a different shop and is now discontinued. I just about ripped my husband's arm off tonight on our way back from dinner in downtown Frederick tonight. Voila is fascinating. I stepped inside and was immediately in awe. The owner said that they always have 4 different teas brewed for customers to try out. I tried a black tea and a green tea and wound up buying them both. I wish there were a way to give this shop zero stars! At first I would have given this store 5 stars but the appeal was worn off. The staff (which seems to not be enough) and the owner are not only rude... like you are bothering them.... but very unorganized and get mad at you when you come back 4 and 5 times to buy their merchandise. This shop is a great find! The variety of teas is quite impressive for such a small little storefront and I have never been disappointed in the quality. So far, I've purchased 8 different blends and they have all been fantastic! They also sell locally made candied pecans and honeys and they are very reasonably priced and absolutely delicious! The staff members have always been friendly, welcoming, and helpful. Most of teas are a pretty fair price, but some of the teas can be a bit pricey; however, you do brew a lot of cups from the amount of tea packed in the tins and Voila is a small local business. I would definitely recommend this shop to anyone who loves tea, wants to try something different, or anyone looking for a nice gift. read more

This place is great! My wife and I discovered it when they first opened and have been going back frequently! The owner ventured out of corporate to live her dream and has put every attention to detail into this business. In my conversations with her, I learned the teas are sourced from all over the world. While other reviewers say they offer flavored teas mostly, they must have completely missed the other side of the shop. They have an amazing selection of traditional tea varieties. I guess they don't sample them much because the common person may prefer the flavored varieties. I've read some of the negative reviews here and I'd say do yourself a favor and disregard them. 1) It's a small business that has grown rapidly. I noticed some new employees recently (which tells me they are growing and successful). I've found them all to be very helpful and working on their knowledge. One person mentions their earl grey and bashes presumably a brand new employee (wonder if they were ever new to a job) - anyway, their earl grey is fantastic! I refill my container monthly! 2) It's a small business. Their tea is always fresh because they don't have a lot of storage for excess quantities (it's not sitting on the shelf long). One reviewer seemed to have an issue with a Lapsang Souchong. My wife drinks it and refills it often. She's never had an issue with it. I wonder why that person didn't give them an opportunity to fix it for her rather than choose to bash them? 3) Like any business, if it's crowded, it's got to be good! Why would someone complain about that? Just pick a different time to go if you're afraid of crowds. I've been there where their are 6 deep in line! Like Chaps in Baltimore, it's amazing, so why wouldn't you wait or come back when less crowded and more convenient? 4) Prices are reasonable. Most teas are $5 to $10 for two ounces. Basic math says 18 to 30 cents a cup! If you bring their tin in for the same flavor refill you save $1 - even cheaper! If you love tea, this is the only worthy tea shop in Frederick! I am far greater than a tea snob. I've had tea everywhere. Teavana, Capital Tea, Teaism, Dave's tea. I've had tea on the east coast and on the west coast. I've made friends with people who have tea plantations and tasted theirs, and I've grown my own tea. This was BY FAR my favorite tea tea shop. The service is friendly and impeccable. And the variety FAR surpasses ANYTHING anywhere else. Other tea shop sell nothing but what I call the "tooty fruity" flavors. Voila has earthy teas, grassy teas, musty teas, smoked teas, milky oolongs. She has everything. And the quality is impeccable. I've bought milk oolong at a tea shop on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills that tasted like crap in comparison to Voila's. And it was 3 times the price. The owner knows her tea, and her quality. I moved to california and am not in frederick anymore. I miss my favorite tea shop in the world! And my friends there. Open a shop in Cali! :) --Gavin read more
